Mario Kart 8 rises to the top on Amazon Japan

Mario Kart 8 Wii U amazonTo say that Wii U owners are looking forward to Mario kart 8 would be an understatement. Mario kart 8 is likely the first big Wii U game of 2014, and gamers are slowly getting their wallets ready. Since the last Nintendo Direct, Mario Kart 8 has risen to the top spot of all games on the Japanese Amazon.

Hopefully Mario Kart 8 will have the same effect on Wii U system sales as Zelda Wind Waker HD and Super Mario 3D World had — Mario Kart 8 launches in May, and the Wii U could probably use a sales boost during the Summer. As we found out yesterday, Bayonetta 2 will launch in the Summer in Japan, and later in 2014 in the rest of the world. Super Smash Bros U, another highly anticipated Wii U game, is rumored to be ready for this Fall.

According to recent rumors, Nintendo might release Mario Kart 8 in a red box, giving it some exclusivity and style. Be sure to also check out the official Mario Kart Wii U box art.

Will you be getting Mario Kart 8? Do you think the game will attract new Wii U owners? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section!

Once the Wii U gets rolling in Japan, the rest of the word will catch on. This game needs to do well. Needs to what MK7 and 3D Land were for the 3DS to put the console on the map.

    • Magnus Eriksson

      A dead fish doesnt roll.

      • NintendManiac

        Fish don’t roll at all.

      • Lil J Moore

You’ll be amazed at what you’ll see in the ocean these days

        • Magnus Eriksson

Nintendos blue ocean? Yeah, old outdated fitness equipments and some plastic junk floating around, among lots of dead fish.

          • Skelterz

Among other plastic floating in a pond of algi and other dead fish.

          • Ben Ifits

well at least their fish have moved out of the way since super mario world 64.

      • iamserious

Have you never heard of sushi? Lol

    • val berger

not really sure how often you guys keep saying the same stuff over and over again. The mobile handheld gaming market is a completely different one and the WiiU just won’t ‘catch on’ just like that. You can stay in your dream world, I will try to stay realistic and make the best of it. And actually that’s not that hard anymore as there is quite some good software available for the system. Still, always pretending Nintendo would do it right….like…from NOW on… just shows that someone hasn’t really experienced the past 15 yrs of Nintendo or console history.

      • Magnus Eriksson

        Amen to that

      • Nintenjoe82

I just assume when people say ‘MK8 will save the Wii U’ they mean MK8 will bring the Wii U to GameCube lifetime sales or better. I think the game will push a lot of systems but the summer and lack of future games will stop another 3DS style turnaround. Even if they come up with another genius casual hit, they’ll save it for next gen because the Wii U makes it a harder sell.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

They might as well save their big hits for the next console. Non-Nintendo fans aren’t impressed with it and Nintendo fans only make up maybe maybe 20% of the gamers out there.

          • Magnus Eriksson

75% of Nintendo fans are unhappy with it too

          • nexxus6

Do you have stats to back that up?

          • Magnus Eriksson

Sure: 5M bought the console in 16 months. Nintendo fans are probably around 20M or more (thats roughly estimated, and precisley 75%). They didnt buy it for different reasons. Also there is no reason to believe that most of the Wii U owners are satisfied with it. Most probably most of them are not. It would be stupid not to be.

          • sd

I Agree. I am a huge Nintendo fan and look at my annoyance. I couldn’t be more annoyed if they took a dump on my face.

(probably a touch of an exaggeration there, but you get the point)

          • Arthur Jarret

Except for the two week ban (that ends today!!!) – I am one of the 25%. Your statistic below fail to count the amount of Nintendo fans that bought the console and are not happy with it, though. So the percentage of unhappy fans are much higher than you make it seem.

I don’t play much games nowadays – since I found the site couchtuner.eu to stream tv-series using my Wii U (in HD, too – which is a must on my screen) – but until I found that one a few months ago Monster hunter 3 Ultimate kept me very busy – while Pikmin and Nintendoland are the go-to games whenever my sister visited (we haven’t been able to meet since Mario 3D world came out, hence it’s absence in that list).

It has caused me to ignore my Playstation 3 for a while now – which I almost only use for my dudebro’ pewpew-game loving friends (who usually bring their own CoD for some co-op zombies or infected) or 3D blu-rays – despite owning some 300-ish games for it.

I think that’s just me – though. I enjoy the Wii U exclusives a lot more than Sony’s exclusives and tend to replay them (even though I love sony’s exclusives too – and I still want to replay the entirety of Uncharted 3 with the 3D mode ON this time.)

          • Link of all time

i just checked your site out, you have to make an account. i assume it’s some sort of scam then. it would be nice to find a site i can watch tv shows on my wii u.

          • Arthur Jarret

You don’t have to make any accounts… just don’t use any of the huge DOWNLOAD NOW links, because those are adverts (mostly run by scammers).

Just go to the site, click on the ‘TV show list’ tab on top, select the serie you want to watch, then click the episode you want to watch – in 50% of the cases, you need to click
“Watch it here : (episode name)”

Then you’re taken to a page with a video and several tabs.
Selecting ‘VK’ in the tab and, after it has loaded, tapping the play button always works on Wii U – most often in HD.

If VK isn’t there or doesn’t work, click ishared, tap ‘close ad and play’, close the extra tab it opens and then click the play button.

If for some reason you still need to register, don’t – reply to me here and I’ll see if I can make a step-by-step instruction for you with screenshots to help you out.

          • thedeciderU

uncharted 3 was a lot of fun

          • Arthur Jarret

It still is :P – really, anyone who limits themselves to one system because of any other reason than a financial one is foolish, in my opinion. I really like my wii U – and the wii, but I’m glad I pick up playstation and pc titles as well!

          • thedeciderU

definitely. i’m fortunate enough to have made a little extra dough this year and now own many games and consoles. there are really so many great experiences available from every company (console). i like all of them, and hope no one goes under. plus it forces them to be competitive and continue making great quality content for us consumers.

          • thedeciderU

i don’t pc game, but am thinking about getting a ps4 pretty soon.

          • Arthur Jarret

Me too, metal gear – kingdom hearts – infamous 3 and the promise of a new uncharted give me enough reasons to pick one up. Waiting to find one in stores. I used to only play point ‘n click adventure games on PC (like broken sword, monkey island, full throttle etc.) – but lately, I’ve gone back to PC gaming for all multiplayer games.

Games are cheaper, better looking and with free online. I’ll get a PS4 for the huge pile of console exclusives – but refuse to pay PS plus for online out of principle. Sure, the free unknow-term rentals you get are great… but I’m the kind of guy who sometimes waits 10 years before finishing a game and it’s not really clear if PS plus titles will still be activated then. (So I’d rather buy, instead)

          • thedeciderU

awesome. yeah, i can’t wait for uncharted. infamous i just borrowed on ps3, so i’ll see how i like that one. i’m anticipating the plethora of what could be quality survival horror games coming this year, and the ps4 seems to be getting all of them. i’m hoping these are true survival experiences as is being promised, where you literally have to run for our life since you’re more or less an everyman. so tense, so fun, so good. so rewarding when you complete a section. evolve looks like it could be cool, but i haven’t really watched any footage, just seen screen shots and saw it was by makers of left 4 dead.

          • Arthur Jarret

Evolve seems very interesting – definitely a PC pick-up, as the online community is sure to be bigger on that platform.

That the modding community is going to go crazy with the game and add new soldier types and monsters to the game – reverse the gameplay and make a 4 monsters vs. 1 soldier survival mode and make new maps is almost a given seeing the current response to the game from the community.

Regarding survival horror: I believe indie games like Slender, Amnesia etc. are right up your alley – I don’t think you’ll need a heavy PC for those indie titles.
Slender is even free: http://slendergame.com/ (if you want to pick up PC gaming at one point)

Unfortunately, not many of those survival horror indies are ever released on console (only the AAA action horror games… although ‘The evil within’ looks very good)

          • Nintenjoe82

80% of statistics on the internet are lies told by Satoru Iwata and Reggie.

I’m happy with the console, happy with the first party games but unhappy with the Virtual Console and unhappy with Nintendo saying they want to save the Wii U when they mean they want the 3DS to save Nintendo while the Wii U slowly fades. 3rd party support was fine while it lasted buy we wont see anything decent for a while now.

I feel like they tricked early adopters with large collections of Wii VC games in to thinking they could play them on a handheld controller. I still am gonna give them the benefit of the doubt til Mario Kart and if they don’t advertise MK8, I will know where they stand on Wii U recovery.

          • thedeciderU

yeah, if they don’t advertise the hell out of mk8, and there is nothing significant announced for fall release 2014, then i’ll continue to use youtube and netflix. slow clap for nintendo…uggghhhhh

          • Link of all time

100% of wii u owners that i know love it. my boy and i, and thats all that matters. i did talk two friends into getting one. one loves it, havent got feed back from the other yet, i’ll let you know lol.

          • C4

They can’t always drop support for a console after a mere 3 or 4 years. That’s part of what brought them in the current situation in the first place.

          • sd

Game cube had 5 years of support and the wii had 7 years. The Wii U is likely to under perform both of these consoles so it would be unlikely that it would be supported anywhere past 5 years. I am thinking Nov 2016/March 2017 for a new console if things continue this way.

          • Magnus Eriksson

            2015

          • sd

If they offer Wii U owners (especially day 1 adopters) some sort of incentive then thats fine. If they released a new console in 2015 without an incentive then I would just stick with sony and MS.

I also hope the go back to their roots with the next console and release a high powered device. I remember the snes with the 3dfx chip. Nintendo were all about pushing the boundaries with graphics and capabilities.

Maybe this is their grand plan, go straight for power. Imagine if they release a new console without any sort of extras just a console and standard controller. They could price it in line with X-1 and PS4 and because it would release a few years later it should be able to be far more powerful.

          • C4

I already own more Wii U games then Wii games.

Around 2005 GC support got noticably lower and that’s around 3 1/3 – 4 years after its launch. Of course it was also a bit front heavy with new 3D Mario and Zelda within its first year – I think in another situation (not launched after what felt like 3 years after the PS2) it would have sold much better for sure, there were almost no droughts for at least those 3 years.

Wii games were released at strategically the right time, Galaxy (2007), Galaxy 2 (2010), Zelda SS (2011) (and MP3 between the Galaxies IIRC) – everytime it looked like a drought there were 1 – 2 big 1st party titles to look forward to. That’s at least what they need after Smash, Bayo and X releases otherwise they are just repeating their own mistakes.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Of course not always. But its very likely that they do it when it becomes a shame like Wii U have become.

          • C4

So you can imagine they are able to launch a portable and a stationary console in 2016? They already have / had problems supporting their current consoles with software – or even VC. They _need_ to ride this through, work on their Quality of Life (lol) platform and then come up with a plan at the right time. Until then dropping support is the worst thing they can do.

Of course I’m not saying that’s what they don’t or will do. Probably it’s the best to not expect anything but I guess I don’t have to tell you that :)

          • nexxus6

WiiU will be here for the typical 5-7 year timeframe.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

It being here in 5-7 years is uncertain. Know one knows the future my friend. To me, I don’t see it lasting that long if this is how their current situation will be in the long term. To each their own.

          • Arthur Jarret

According to my crystal balls, it will last another 4 years and three months. I might be wrong, though… after a fight my last girlfriend chipped my chrystal balls – which explains my current smurf-like voice.

          • sd

I hope I am wrong and the console lasts that amount of time and that games suddenly start being released on a monthly basis. But I just don’t see it anymore.

If poor sales continue Nintendo should release a new console in 2016. They should also run an ambassador program for all of us who have supported the Wii U for so long and offer us a great incentive (game bundle) to buy the next console.

          • val berger

this ti8meframe isn’t typical at all. it has become a common timeframe since the previous gen, but has been shorter before.

          • Martijn Plasmans

I think Nintendo will come with a new console 2 years from now.

        • sd

I dont see the Wii U emulating the success of the gamecube any more. I see the last batch of games being released in 2015 and then Nintendo moving all the other games in development over to their new console for a Christmas 2016 release.

          • DragonSilths

You are an idiot. Wii U will last till 2018. It takes 5-7 years to make a new console, especially seeing as their next Handheld and Home console will launch around the same time since they both will have similar architecture. That would hurt the 3DS to release the next handheld and cut off the 3DS. Nintendo will stick with their console for 6-7 years even if the Nintendo employees were the only ones who bought the system.

          • Magnus Eriksson

lol, not a chance :D 2015 Its dead and buried

          • nexxus6

I hope you are being sarcastic, otherwise you need to not eat the mushrooms in your backyard.

          • Magnus Eriksson

If they continue like they do now, then mark my words.

            2012 launched (3.2M)
2013 failed to get momentum (tot. 3.65M incl launch sales)
2014 Nothing but two games for the first 6 months (2.8M)
2015 New financial report (1.5M) in the last year. Because of extreme drought of games through 2014 and hard competition. Discontinuation.

Sold less than 8M over four financial year. Thats considered a flop, and the boarder forces discontinuation.
            ——-

This is a very likely scenario. They wont continue to support something like that.

            —–

I guess your logic is something like this

            2012 launched (3.2M)
2013 everyone hated on Nintendo and was evil (tot. 3.65M incl launch sales)
2014 (2.8 M from last year into this financial report) Nintendo releases DKCF. Everyone LOVES it. It becomes a systemseller and generates 10M sold consoles by itself. MM8 is released and generate another 10M sold
Smash Bros generates another 10M sold
2015 Nintendo’s three titles fron 2014 generated 30M sold consoles.
2016 Nintendo release Metroid, Star Fox, Zelda, Mother U, Miyamotos new IP, and sells another 50M
2017 Nintendo reveales plans of a new console thats awesome. Everyone will buy it, its state of the art next gen, powerful, cool and everything. Wii U is still support. Gets all great franchises from butthurt third parties who regret being assholes and hating on Nintendo. Wii U sells another 20M

Wii U is discontinuated with a total of 100M sold…

Sorry man, but its never going to happen. It wont sell a tenth of that.

          • sd

12-18 million lifetime sales is a realistic total with the current release schedule of games.

          • Magnus Eriksson

If its not discontinued before that is. My guess is that Nintendo will if it sells that bad. Especially now when 3DS sales are going drastically down.

          • thedeciderU

yes, if iwata goes. i can’t wait for mario kart 8, but i can’t see it being the sole savior for the wiiu. same with smash. nintendo have fucked up too much since launch. i hope i’m wrong, but it doesn’t seem like much is being done to get the wiiu where it should have been a year ago. the early launch really screwed them. they could have trickled out a great game every month if they’d waited…

          • Nintenjoe82

You can’t combine launch periods, fiscal years and random dates together like that. The Wii U situation:
            Wii U’s first 12 months 3.65 M
            Wii U’s next 6 months (est.) 2.8M

That isn’t that bad, for them to get to 30M lifetime isn’t impossible from here. If Smash launches within 6 months of Mario Kart they will have momentum to try to keep hold of. I know they won’t but it’s not impossible. The Wii U won’t be able to do a PS3 and start a comeback 3-4 years down the line but that doesn’t mean they can’t maintain slightly more consistent sales with the world’s most popular racing game and fighting game series.

            Here’s my hopes:
-DKC:TF flops hard, Retro told never to make another platformer again. Iwata promises to stop making cynical cash grabs at idiotic Nintendo fans and goes back to being a game producer.
            – New CEO Reggie puts entire VC collection on Wii U and sales increase by 1,000,000% and don’t drop back down. Sales of NES games still poor so one-per-week policy is dropped and all 3rd party SNES games start appearing.
-MK8 sells a million extra systems in 6 months before xmas
-Bayonetta 2 sells well enough for them to release the original at retail enhanced for Wii U
-X becomes the final fantasy 7 of this gen and convinces millions of people to buy a game they never complete.
-Zelda U is best game of all time,
-Miyamoto’s new IP released, it’s so good that it makes up for the first two year of no support for the gamepad.

          • Magnus Eriksson

And I didnt combine them either. I was specific that it was about financial year.

          • Nintenjoe82

The key point is that Nintendo won’t admit they pulled the plug even when the Wii U is not available at any retailer.

Iwata and co. will be teasing Miyamoto IP, Zelda U and still revealing Smash characters right up to 2018 when they launch a new console that comes bundled with a camera peripheral that nobody likes…..

My biggest fear left is that the special killer app use for the gamepad they came up with was blowing on the microphone. I bet most of Zelda U and possibly Metroid U will be examining dusty objects on the gamepad and blowing the dust away to reveal……. a piece of heart!!

          • nexxus6

Where did I say anything about the WiiU selling 100M? Jump to conclusions much?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I’m quite sure they’re nutritious and edible. Mario said so.

          • DragonSilths

Nope. That’s Xbox One, Ouya, and Steambox.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Ouya is actually much better than Wii U in many ways. First of all you can emulate all NES, SNES and N64 games for free instead of being ripped off on Virtual Console. That way you dont have to fear that Nintendo keeps on milking the dead cow. They can trickle how much they want, but someone already made a much more potent Virtual Console for the Ouya :)

          • DragonSilths

I cant even take you serious.

          • nexxus6

Agreed. People on this board think that developing and producing a new console happens over night.

          • sd

No I expect it would take 12 months for a new console to find its feet, but the Wii U has fallen over. All the games are delayed. I was certain the Wii U would succeed last year. Then Nintendo once again delayed all of the games that they announced for the first half of this year. Its already gasping for breath, if the games had been released in the first half of this year it would have succeeded. But unfortunately I am now certain that will not happen. My prediction is about 15-18 million lifetime sales for the Wii U and the new console to be released in November 2016.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Course you can. You just need one of these.

          • Magnus Eriksson

HAHAHAHAHA! LOLLOLLOL! ROFLMAO… over night. HAHAHA!!! You are a very funny guy… over night :D :D :D

            16 months

          • sd

Nice with the name calling. i am just looking at the facts currently available. Sales have once again flopped and Nintendo have once again delayed all of their games. Only 4 of their main games are being released by Fall. Do you honestly expect sales to lift from this.

Another piece of information just for clarity is that its main 3rd party supporter, Ubisoft, was talking about pulling its third pary support if sales do not lift. Guess what sales have flopped again and Nintendo are not doing anything different.

Just to highlight another fact. The Gamecube was released in 2001, the Wii was released five years later and support for the gamecube pretty much ceased. That was 5 years. At this point the Wii U will be lucky to match the low sales of the gamecube, yet you expect it to be supported for 2 years longer than the gamecube, and you call me an idiot. Even the Wii was only supported for 7 years and that sold 100 million consoles.

I have had a Wii U since day 1 and I am still waiting for the games and features that were supposed to be released in the first 6 months. Sure I will probably keep my console, because the few games that are released are great. But i have other consoles to play when gaming gets slow.

          • DragonSilths

I have said it before, and I will say it again. NO I DONT EXPECT ANY SALES TO EXPLODE NO MATTER WHAT NINTENDO DOES. Nintendo could have a system with 1,000 year futuristic alien technology it doesn’t matter. A NEW SYSTEM WONT DO SHIT. Nintendo will do what they need to and that is just accept the Wii U’s situation and cruise through it not expecting a repeat of the Wii.

          • sd

To be honest if they do that and keep the games coming then it would actually be okay. The games they do make are great, its just unfortunate they are so sparse.

          • Jon

The Xbox to Xbox 360 says hello, that was a 4 year gap.

          • DragonSilths

That was Microsoft’s entrance into the gaming industry. They were still finding themselves. The original Xbox was Microsoft’s 3rd choice to enter the industry with anyway.

        • val berger

exactly. Thanks to Smash Bros it’s not like Nintendo hasn’t any system seller on their roadmap, but considering where they are now, they just need far, I mean far more than that. yes, even more than Smash Bros. Gamecube had a launch lineup like luigi game, wave race, rogue leader, Extreme G 3, Super Monkey Ball, Tony Hawks 3 and so many more and although there were quite some good games coming out during that first year, it seemed like nothing back in the days. I remember how people started to get frustrated when there weren’t any games coming during the first half of the year. And at that point, the system already did far better than the WiiU.
Like last year, it all depends on what we are going to see at this year’s E3. I wouldn’t expect a black or white, but some strange grey, like most of the time. The last really good Nintendo Keynote lies a few years back, on the other hand, it’s not like they never show anything. In case of last years Nintendo Direct, it just wasn’t overwhelming and even games like Super Mario 3D World, which has become one of my favourite games of all time by now, wasn’t really well presented and really disappointing. Nintendo once really was able to present a game like that in such a magical way, that just made you want that game here and now. Super Mario 64 times might be over, still that doesn’t mean you can’t create a bit more empathy when unveiling something new.

      • Skelterz

Trust me when i trust you, Im being cryptic i agree YEZ SIT} JSJ

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Yep….people here are living a good fantasy. With how hardware sales have been, I don’t see Mario Kart 8 pulling a Mario Kart Wii. People are just setting themselves up for disappointment.

        • nexxus6

You are living a fantasy if you believe Nintendo will be launching a new system by 2016.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Who said I was talking about 2016? Don’t assume. Lol. It is quite possible that the Wii U could get discontinued. It would give Nintendo time to plan out a new console for the 9th generation. There is no fantasy here. It’s merely pointing out possible scenerios that are plausible. It’s not the first time if they discontinue. I’m sure most remember the Virtualboy. Calm down bro. Should ask people to explain rather than jump on their backs.

          • nexxus6

I was not the first to accuse people of “living a good fantasy”. Just using your words in an opposite viewpoint. Like you said, no one knows the future. Maybe Mario Kart 8 gives the WiiU a huge boost, who knows. You can’t say anyone who is trying to stay positive of “living a fantasy”, but those who are writing the console off as being on the right side of the fence.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

When people are going on about Mario Kart 8 pushing out hardware the same as Mario Kart did for the Wii? Yeah, I certainly call that a fantasy. I found it justified. Me saying that the Wii U being possibly discontinued, is certainly not a fantasy. You’d be right if I actually wanted that to happen. I can’t speak for those who do want them to throw away the Wii U. Though, it may not be a bad idea considering they gave up on the Virtualboy long ago. In either case, call it what you will. I stand by what I said.

          • gtosheex

To me i would think if they discontinue the Wii U prematurely of the average console lifespan, that would piss A LOT of Nintendo fans off that did buy the system an/or invest money in it already (me included). I just don’t see it happening. I’d rather wait than reset back to a new console.

        • val berger

Hm, I actually do think that MK8 is gonna be one of the best selling WiiU games and a real system seller. People here just doesn’t understand that one or two games a year like that just aren’t enough to mobilise the mainstream masses. Not with a system that has had such a bad start and such a bad first year. Smash Bros Meelee, Mario Kart Double Dash, Wind Waker Pikmin 1 & 2 and Super Mario Sunshine didn’t turn the gamecubeinto a moneyprinter. These games held it back from failing and apart from financial success created some awesome experiences back in that time. So it’s not like the gameslibrary of WiiU is gonna be a complete failure, actually for me it’s already very cool. It’s just the way Nintendo can’t manage to create hype and empathy about their products.

      • LopsidedPasta

I’ve been saying this for months. Awesomeness.

      • http://people.ign.com/fliadaloisio fliadaloisio

Where the hell do you read in the comment were you reply the phrase “The mobile handheld gaming market” !? O.o WTF?

        • val berger

and what did you smoke, hombre? I’m sure you did read the post I was replying, speaking of 3DS once again? of course you did. well, that’s a mobile handheld console. welcome to the world of tomorrow.

          • http://people.ign.com/fliadaloisio fliadaloisio

3DS IS A HANDHELD CONSOLE when you are refering to “mobile” you assume is the same market as smartphones or anything similar, which in that case you are completely mistaken. Entendio lo que dije, hombre? ;)

          • val berger

Ok sorry if you mistook it, for what I can say, there are 37 amigos who didn’t. BUT OK! I understand it could lead to misunderstandings, so let it be written here for now and ever: handheld console market.

      • jjbredesen

Since everyone are making predictions for how Wii U will do here is mine:

2014: Q1 is not that great and Wii U will struggle DK:TF will help a bit, but i don’t think Wii U will sell well perhaps not more than 500 000 untill we get MK8 –> Q2 MK8 will not save Wii U or make it explode in sales, but it will rase the standard of sales each week, to possibly sell about 1, 5M for the summer, lets also not forget that E3 will show some new games, that will get people to buy the system. We will get to see Zelda U at E3, and i think that will get the Zelda fanbase over on the system. And since they also have Hyrule Warriors launching they will most likley jump omboard.Therefor i think by the end of summer Wii U will have sold 7,8M And Nintendo will have turned a profit. Then Smash Bros that h as a much larger fanbase than most of us think and combined with Bayonetta it should sell a couple of systems not to much, but by the end of the year Wii U should have sold close to 9M, but that is still far from good enough… Then they will start 2015 with Zelda U in feb, Star Fox or something else for April, then Metroid for late summer? and the rest of the year i have no clue. But Miyamoto’s new IP should release around then?

I think it will continue on to 2016-2017 and then they will show a new console at E3 2018. Donno how well it will do, but i think it will have sold close to 30-40M once it is discontinued,

Nintendo will not just dumb Wii U, because that is not how they work, you can’t use the “it makes sense” arguement on Nintendo, they will do what they want. and even if the console did not sell, they would not discontiue it, there to proud etc….

They have made a lot of mistakes with Wii U, but it will end up like a Gamecube, and that is fine for me, the games are still great so who cares? I think we should just enjoy games, instead of argueing about numbers!!

      • Mario

        Understandable

    • matthew garcia

      Gonna take more then that.

    • sd

The problem is every time the Wii U starts to roll Nintendo put the brakes on by not releasing any games for another 3-4 months. If they did successive releases it would take off. But seriously if the only major games being released by fall are DKTF (Feb), Mario Kart (May), Bayonetta (summer) then SSB (Fall) how do you think it will keep selling.

      • iamserious

I don’t understand. How many good/great games does Nintendo have to release to be considered “taking off”? Nintendo is releasing at least 10-15 games this year (from Nintendo not third party). That is plenty.

        • Magnus Eriksson

2 until june. What are the other 8-13 games?

          • sd

You got down voted for the factual question. LMAO.

          • iamserious

DKTF, Bayo 2, Smash, Kart, X, Yarn Yoshi, Sonic Boom, Hyrule Warriors, these are published by Nintendo except Sonic but Sega and Nintendo are almost partnerish. I’m sure there are other games but can’t quite bring them to mind atm. Also I said 10-15 games not necessarily good/great games (that was only applicable to my first question). Nintendo will also be releasing games on the VC that adds even more games.

          • Magnus Eriksson

lol, but Hyrule Warriors is far from being released. It doesnt got a name even. Also Yarn Yoshi is pretty speculative.

So its basically MK8, DKCF and Smash. Thats aweful. Also we should be honest here. DKCF was pushed back from 2013. Smash is outsourced. Its basically Mario Kart… Someone is clearly not doing their job here.

          • iamserious

Well I honestly feel that Nintendo does not need to push tons of games out to help me feel like my purchase was worthwhile. Quality over quantity has always been my gaming outlook. Nintendo IS doing a lot more now IMO. They have been publishing and making a lot more games than Sony or Microsoft I think. They have been making some second party partners too. Also, I had no idea Smash was being outsourced? By who?

        • sd

No they are not, if they were it would be great. Did you miss the delays. Only Mario Kart and Donkey by the end of May. Then Bayonetta 2 in summer and Smash Bros in Fall.(thats 4 games in the first 9-10 months. Maybe a few more Nov/Dec. If they released 10 great games or 1 a month I would say sales would lift and it would succeed. But its not happening unfortunately.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

That’s the problem. They have little third party support. Their games alone, won’t make it another Wii. If Nintendo is content on the Wii U being another Gamecube, then so be it.

      • thedeciderU

i didn’t even realize those games were coming out. what have they done to create hype? i kid, i kid :)

    • DragonSilths

Wii U wont take off to the moon like the 3DS did. It WILL be a Gamecube situation again. Course I hope I’m wrong, but every time a game comes out, MK8, Smash Bros, Zelda HD, all will all only slightly boost console sales. Every game will just slightly raise sales.

      • Magnus Eriksson

Nothing is even remotely close to become a GCN. It will sell half of what GCN did. Sales ate not picking up from here, its way too late in the cycle. MK8 wont generate that many buyers that you think. 1M maybe. Smash is even lower. My guess is that Nintendo will sell something like 2.5M consoles the next financial year.

        • thedeciderU

it could pull a ps3, but i don’t think on the massive scale that sony ended up with. sales will be slow and hopefully steady. i think mk8 and smash will sell more than 2.5M systems, but not sure how much more…and if nintendo keep staying so secretive with upcoming games, they will continue to have shit wiiu sales. i can only afford a wiiu about every three months and am running out of storage space in my apartment…

        • DragonSilths

Your not even fucking listening to me. I said MK8 wont make the Wii U explode in sales, every game will slightly boost console sales. Quit picking few words out of my posts and ignoring the rest. And your wrong about the Wii U selling less then the Gamecube.

      • val berger

This is right. If a product fails to create momentum in first place, it can’t gain that afterwards. Many people refer to the 3DS to be the ULTIMATE SUCCESS, but in the end, it’s just not a flop. The 3DS had a bad start and is now doing well, but it’s only really successful compared to the WiiU, still it could do better.

        • RennanNT

The ULTIMATE SUCCESS were PS2 and DS, and hardly anyone will touch them this gen, but “just not a flop”? You have a pretty huge standard…

With 3 years and 2 months, the DS had sold 64m. With 2 years and 10 months (and for starting at february, it got 1 less end of year sales btw), the 3DS made 42m.

Supposing it keep this proportion, 3DS will get about 90~110m in the end, which would put it together with the Wii’s success (the 3rd most sold gaming system to date)..

        • DragonSilths

Well the 3DS is successful across everything…sells more then PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Vita, so forth lol.

          • val berger

Since the N64, people wanted Nintendo to share the same success they always had on the handheld console market with their home consoles. So it’s nice what they achieved on that sector with the 3DS, doesn’t mean anything at all for home consoles. I really wish it would, but it just doesn’t.

  • Mr Ninty

heey looks like everybody can predict the future

  • Thomas Fitzgibbon

This must be a first for the Wii U, beating all other console games to the very top. It can only get better if Nintendo remain consistent with AAA releases, especially when Smash Bros and Zelda U are unleashed on the market.

    • Simon Stevens

Not to mention the big M

      • val berger

        Big M is already out.

        • Simon Stevens

          Metroid to be specific lol

          • Magnus Eriksson

Do you think there will be a Metroid now? Im very unsure. Maybe to 3DS but unlikely to Wii U…

          • Simon Stevens

I would hope and pray for it, Wii U is obviously were I want it, I’d take it on the 3DS though…. man, that’s pathetic, us Wii U owners are practically tramps begging the rich for copper coins, yet, we are ignored and stepped on

          • Magnus Eriksson

Yup, thats very true. Wii U is basically on the level of a smart phone, most games are too.

          • matthew garcia

Smart phones are not that far away technically from wii u. 3 more years and smart phones will be right with it graphically

          • Magnus Eriksson

I think it already is better. I can do cooler stuff with my phone than with my Wii U.

          • matthew garcia

I know my phone already has more then 32gigs lol. Cant believe wii u went with 32g

          • Daniel Gonzalez

That won’t suffice with how big games are today. You need at least 1tb these days. At the very least, they should have provided 500gb for starters.

          • matthew garcia

            True that

          • Simon Stevens

Magnus please, my Galaxy S4 might hear, it doesn’t deserve to be insulted, it unlike my many Wii U’s has provided great service, especially boobs on the go and music while I shit, shave and shower, Wii U can’t even strech out of the front room without becoming a brick, poor S4, shhhhhhh only dreams now <3

          • val berger

Not sure who, but some Nintendoguy mentioned that there’s gonna be a Metroid game. I just wouldn’t expect this to happen right now. Zelda should be unveiled at E3 quite sure (if not, it would be one of those Nintendo presentations, we already got used to by now, only delivering stuff already shown)
But yeah, I manage to somehow stay kinda confident that they won’t mess it up this time.

          • Simon Stevens

I would hope so, no use punishing the fans for there incredibly lazy and ridiculous mistakes.

          • iamserious

What if at E3 Metroid AND Zelda were announced!?! I would probly shat myself! Lol

          • Simon Stevens
          • iamserious

There WILL be a Metroid for Wii U after they see the success from these next big 4 releases from Nintendo.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Sorry bro, but I dont think Nintendo are willing to invest in the Wii U anymore.

          • val berger

            ah ok, that M ;D

          • Simon Stevens

Not that other M, or that other other M, or even last years M, the Big M, not the small or medium m, the M MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

          • val berger

didn’t get into other am, so better not ANOTHER M. More the one and only M. Wouldn’t even mind if its the Prime M we are talking about. Or some new M. But M, it should be. OK now I need some M&Ms.

    • Shota

that list is updated hourly. so you’re comment doesn’t make sense

    • sd

If only they could remain consistent with the releases. Only 4 major games are likely to be released by fall. That’s not great and has me very bitter. After all the promises last year its disappointing.

  • Gabe Hoffman

Have you seen the comment section on Cinema Blend? Butthurt everywhere!

  • Magnus Eriksson

I will wait and buy it used/second hand. I dont want Nintendo to get money from me.

    • Morphballs

      relax

      • Magnus Eriksson

I am relaxed. I just dont find it defendable from a moral perspective to buy things that gives them money anymore. The less we invest in Nintendo the better it is. They dont deserve to survive through this generation, and the fault is their only.

        • Nathan C.

Nintendo will survive thanks to the 3DS alone.

I know how you fell though. Ninty’s marketing is hard to watch. Though I doubt failure or success will change the way they do things (take our last Nintendo Direct, for instance).

          • Magnus Eriksson

I think they should focus on the 3DS, much better

        • SamusPrime

Here is an idea, just sell it, and move on with your life.

          • Simon Stevens

Great, tell everybody that who has concern with the way Nintendo are operating on the Wii U side of things, watch them fall under.

          • SamusPrime

Anything that brings this much consternation to someone, should probably let it go. He’ll probably be much happier if he did. And don’t generalize my statement into everybody who has concerns should sell it. Not everything is black and white.

          • Simon Stevens

I think he’s more against Nintendo and the way they are operating and of course, the system it self, rather than the first party game library everybody loves, I apologize for putting words in your mouth, just sticking my neck out for a guy I regularly associate with on here, he’s not a bad dude, he just feels passionately about were Nintendo are headec right now, and let’s be honest, nowhere fast.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Good idea. Although NO ONE WANTS TO BUY A WII U!!! Do you live under a rock or something?

          • SamusPrime

Then take a hammer to it, submerge it in water, burn it, I don’t care. Maybe you could act like an adult instead of throwing insults at me.

          • Magnus Eriksson

I dont insult you. But you shouldnt be on the internet if you cant take disagreements. Then you should go back to the rock.

          • SamusPrime

Nice, is that another “non-insult”. For the record, we aren’t having a disagreement, I’m trying to help you out. You have a product that you don’t like, I’m helping you with ways of ridding yourself from said product. Think of all the time you will save from being on the internet, if you had one less thing to talk about.

          • Magnus Eriksson

The thing is more complicated than that. But sorry, didnt mean to be an asshole to you. Its just the way I am.

          • nexxus6

Magnus won’t sell his WiiU, because he chooses not to. All the grandstanding and ranting that he does is all talk. If he disliked the system as much as he claims, he would find a way to part ways with it.

          • Simon Stevens

why would they?, it’s a rip off

          • nexxus6

Then give it away. I am sure you could donate it to a children’s hospital, senior center, etc. You seem like a resourceful individual, figure out a way to get rid of it.

        • NintendManiac

I see the butthurt from the direct still goes on.

          • Magnus Eriksson

But you are happy for the Direct? You found it good? That makes you an jater.

        • Fierce-Deity Link

ehh… i hope this ur so called “trolling”.. yes nintendo made mistakes, but they are also trying.. yes some promises were made and they took long to deliver but they did it… nintendo was obviously unprepared, but they arent trying to screw over the fanbase.. look at 3d world.. so much content tht could have been dlc… they dont “deserve” to survive? says u lol.. geezus u sound like a little brat whining about his parents and how evil they are… again, i wish there were more games, but nintendo was unprepared… they dont need to extremely fail to learn their lesson.. this is why iwata said changes need to happen

          • Simon Stevens

Should a company with billions upon billions operate like this though?, hardly seems reasonable to take all our cash for ransom and shor change us like this, Iwata = greedy little plump apple

          • NintendManiac

If Iwata’s so greedy then why does he not fire his employees to save money and take pay cuts?

          • Simon Stevens

Why would he?, they have billions in the bank lol

          • C4

He don’t want to give investors ideas about firing someone :P

          • Fierce-Deity Link

word?? damn.. iwata be so greedy he is taking a pay cut so ppl dont get fired… such a greedy bastard.. they got cocky and made mistakes… i get it.. still doesnt mean we should wish them failure

          • NintendManiac

I wouldn’t try reasoning with these people they’re not very smart.

          • Simon Stevens

Hm, you play games, I fix the consoles and tvs you play them on for a living, yeah, we’re not very smart

          • Magnus Eriksson

Ive got two masters degree. One in history and one in philosophy. I know five languages, where two of them are dead. What do you do.

          • Simon Stevens

I wish Nintendo no failure, but if they don’t do better they will fail

          • Magnus Eriksson

That has nothing to do with greed or not greed. This is Japan, and their rules. You see it is expected that Iawata do this because he have dishonored Nintendo. Also he have lowered the salary of his employees by 30%, and thats not good. They are punished because he are dishonoring Wii U. Are you not ashamed of your self when defending such crooks???

          • Fierce-Deity Link

have you ever heard of sony doing something like that? if so, link me something that says another japanese company has done something similar to this.. didn’t sony have to sell some building to repay debt or something? don’t quote me on this.. in any case, since when was it the norm for business men to take pay cuts for their company? lol..

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Heard about that. Though, is there any real proof that Iwata took a paycut? Or shall we just believe the news we are fed? Lol. Something to think about.

          • Fierce-Deity Link

i think if he was lying we would know cause there would be people being unemployed lol.. just me though.. i doubt he’d say something so bold and lie about that..i mean, wouldn’t we have heard people complain if this wasn’t happening? i like to stay a little more positive in certain things.. im not too positive about nintendo having consistent releases, but i do believe the man takes a pay cut for not making the right decisions.. just me though xD

          • Daniel Gonzalez

They have 15 billion to go around. I think they can afford to keep employees. Lol. Which means Iwata most likely didn’t take a paycut. It just sounds good for a story. As said, unless there’s proof that he did, I wouldn’t buy into it. I sure don’t.

          • Fierce-Deity Link

im a skeptic by nature.. hell, when they said osama was killed and all that i didn’t believe it lol… it’s just for some reason i believe iwata did or would do this.. but in any case, we shall have to agree to disagree :p

          • nexxus6

Wow! The evil lies of Nintendo strike again.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Glad to see you agree. You have been cleansed of corruption.

        • William Cole

There is some rationale in his answer. I love Nintendo so much but they try so hard to not be relevant. The handhelds are great, love ‘em I have a 3DS with a ton of games but they need to be able to satisfy needs other than their own and if they want to satisfy the needs of others and themselves they need to adapt to the times. We wouldn’t want to see a NES in 2004 would we?

There is so much technology that they are missing out on. The Wii was a wild card, nobody saw it coming not even from a mile away.

But that is over, we don’t care about motion control any more; it ruined my MARIO PARTY 8! I love Nintendo but they continue to announce ideas and implement ideas that would have flourished 8 years ago.

Wii want Wii to be over, wii need a new Nintendo line that can satisfy everyone. This is partly Nintendo’s fault because they don’t want to listen. Sony’s PS4 has almost passed it up because one thing sony does is LISTEN. And they’re easily hacked… heh heh.

          • Simon Stevens

My Wii was hacked, ot was, still is, always will be amazing, my favourite system :) still, they need to be the supreme force next gen, make cutting edge above everybody else graphical technology and have all the multiplats, should have been this gen, next gen, hopefully a smart young stud muffin will be in charge

          • William Cole

I agree, we need a new president of Nintendo. Iwata has done his damage, got Nintendo so rich they don’t know what to do with it all. But there comes a time when new is old and the old needs to be replaced with more new. In other words, sayonara Iwata.

          • Simon Stevens

            I salute you sir! :)

          • Magnus Eriksson

            You think excatly like me.

        • Morphballs

I do agree that Nintendo has made a lot of mistakes with the Wii U things that frustrate me too but to go as far as wanting them to go out of business thats too much :)

          • Magnus Eriksson

Nah, not out of business. But they have nothing to do in the console biz. They should focus on handhelds, going in with full power there instead. They have more balls in the air then than they are able to handle.

    • Simon Stevens

Don’t blame you, if I had the choice I would too, because they’ve rustled my bollocks to no end with that god awful direct

    • Virus6

I feel sorry for you. You clearly have nothing better to do with your life than lurk here and talk down to people who like something that you clearly don’t.

      • Simon Stevens

So because his opinion differs from yours, that makes him a creeper?, some people want and expect better from Nintendo, upon looking at MS and Sony and the games they will get, why wouldn’t most people want better?, leave him be.

      • Magnus Eriksson

I feel sorry for you for defending someone who fucks you in the ass and takes your hard earned money for it. Im on your side, but you are appearantly too stupid too see it.

        • Simon Stevens

We fight, we unite, we strive for Nintendo to do better, I got cha ;)

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Apparently that’s a sin around here. ;)

      • 504HotBoy

He be making me laugh. Cause he be saying some funny stuff. Don’t take it to serious.

You apparently aren’t smart enough to think of a better response instead copy and pasting.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Nah, thats not why. I just have limited time to use on stupid people.

          • Rinslowe

“I just have limited time to use on stupid people.”
            :)

    • NintendManiac

I don’t think Nintendo wants money from a douche who talks like he could run Nintendo better when he really can’t.

      • val berger

you among most responses here are just another fan who can’t live with criticism.although that’s exactly what nintendo needs these days. they have become too proud to really see what went wrong. they should just listen to the masses even if it hurts. nobody cares what loyalists think because they ain’t have a clear eye anyway.

      • Simon Stevens

The only way Nintendo will ever change anything is if there shit don’t fly anymore, I understand his viewpoint, and though I will still buy there games on day one, I can certainly respect it.

        • NintendManiac

Well your opinion will mean shit to me when you create a better company.

          • val berger

you are very simple minded and completely unable to really write one neutral sentence. this makes it completely uninteresting to have any further conversation with you. Maybe you haven’t noticed yet, but we don’t hate Nintendo just because we don’t agree with everything they do. People liek you are obviously the real haters, because you try to shut every critique up. No critique equals no chance to improve. And Nintendo needs to improve. maybe not for you lucky kiddo, but for their own sake.

          • Simon Stevens

            :O challenge accepted!

          • val berger

don’t be so hard on him. I guess he’s just too young to have seen the things we saw. We went through the Gamecube era and we are still standing :)

          • Simon Stevens

man…. what an era, so many good games on gamecube, nothing on the massive jrpg library over at ps2 though, now that was how you operate a successful system

          • val berger

it’s kinda strange that especially the Wii era didn’tr really stick in my mind as being outstanding although it’s been one hell of a a success. Maybe the WiiU has still a chance of being a great system because of its lack of success :)

          • Simon Stevens

Yeah…. I get that, some games were good but never really stuck in my mind too well, I think graphics mattered and the Wii didn’t really have them, unlike te gamecube for it’s time, you never really felt left behind, Iwata was lucky that system didn’t backfire in a HD generation, now his luck is out because he’s behind again

          • val berger

hm, I really liked skyward sword and metroid prime 3 and some other games. but all of em where sequels of stuff that has been available before and it didn’t really sum up to be a unique library of games. On the WiiU, their failing efforts to get third parties on board at least made games like W101 possible which may have been a huge fail in terms of sails, but one of those games that will stand out for a while. And that’s something the Gamecube also achieved although it wasn’t a huge success. but with some third party games like Viewtiful Joe or Timesplitters 2, it was quite a system you wouldn’t just buy to play Super Mario on.

          • Simon Stevens

The Wi U has had some special ones, both from 3rd party (ninja gaiden, w101) and first party (pikmin, 3d world), it’s nice to see a Nintendo console get back to the good old gamecube days, through I doubt it’ll be as successful gamewise, games like eternal darkness, viewtiful joe, sonic adventure 2, skies of arcadia, baten kaitos, fire emblem etc really made the gamecube such a golden library, can’t say I had all that many games on that system that I didn’t enjoy, if the Wii U can’t be successful, I at least hope it’ll die the way the gamecube did with some real quality left behind

          • val berger

true that, one other struggle for the WiiU might be that expectations today are quite different than back in the days. On the SNES releasing one AAA Nintendo franchise title once a year surely was enough, today if you look at the PS3, if there ain’t a AAA release once or twice a month, people become impatient. As Nintendo doesn’t really have too many third parties and is relying on their 1st parties, one huge hit every few months just can’t work out.
And that’s the problem I got with Bayonetta. For the typical so known ‘hardcore gamer’ coming from PS360, a release like Bayonetta 2 is nice, but nothing as special as Nintendo blows it up top be. On those systems, blockbuster actiontitles are getting released quite often so pushing this title for two years as if it would be the reincarnation of Zelda just shows how little people should expect from the WiiU in terms of games like this. Especially considering that Bayonetta wasn’t even really successful and they wouldn’t really have made a sequel if it wasn’t for Nintendo’s sake. Don’t get me wrong, Bayonetta looks quite nice, but it draws a picture of the WiiU library, the system just isn’t able to live up to. The one thing, Nintendo really did right with the Wii is making clear what this system is supposed to be: targeting the casual gamer and still not completely ignoring the core gamer. With the WiiU, they tried to invert that logic but failed delivering the standard of core contents, set by their competition. And that’s the true problem. Sony and Microsoft really got specialised in delivering a very monotone, but very solid library of action-adventures, shooters, racinggames and onlinegames for players between 20yrs and 35yrs. At the WiiU launch, Nintendo was acting like they could really have anything for this targetgroup and then released New Super Luigi after 6 months of nothing?
I somehow admire those Nintendofanboys who can just ignore stuff like that. Still, as I often mentioned lately, real fans should be more into pushing Nintendo back on their rails instead of ignoring their aimless stumbling through swamps of shit.

          • Simon Stevens

couldn’t agree with you more on this, bayo 2 would be a nice title on any console but not a ground breaking in the top 10 of the year kind of game, X I think is probably justified to get some hype, given the sheer size of the game and the well known developers at hand, but this isn’t something they’ll do every single year I imagine so momentum won’t exactly be a key factor here, unlike say, ps4 and xb1 who will have consistent releases throughout the year, the Wii U isn’t gonna get these games, if by some magic lamp they do, it’s likely going to be gimped with the excuse of hardware limitations being flung about, the motion control made sense so it’s plausible that it sold, Wii U however, I feel once they realized they had nothing, they should have focused on innovating the graphical prowess to a whole other level above and beyond what Sony and MS could offer, or at least offered something above and beyond what tablets could offer with the gamepad because other than inventory and offtv play (which isn’t really a deal breaker), I would think most people would shrug there shoulders and say “why would we want this?”, fanboys really are something else, I love Nintendo games, but that doesn’t mean I love the hardware or some of the decisions they make as a company or even the people that run the company, people, some anyway, lack that sense of mind to separate that, I love subway too, eat there religiously but if they give me a crappy sandwich with man chowder on it, you better believe I’m complaining about it, The Wii U really isn’t that different, it’s good in some respect but Iwata’s man chowder is certainly present and ruins it.

          • val berger

for me personally the WiiU is or would be quite a perfect system. It truly felt kinda fresh to play Mass Effect 3 in the bath tub. On the TV long dialogues are getting exhausting more easily than on the Gamepad, where you can read through every Memo and dialogue befor going to sleep in your bed. So I personally totally like this whole Off-TV idea, but like most of the console, it’s just quite bad executed and even worse sold. why no 720p? why didn’t they include the additional battery in first place? sure, to save money, but now they are losing far more money because the product just isn’t appealing. Now you have scaled down resolution on the gamepad which just isn’t state of the art in a time, where everyone is used to have +300dpi on their mobile phone. If Nintendo wants to compete with such technology, they should have thought of some details in first place instead of sloooooowlyyyyyy adapting afterwards.
They got so many nice ideas and it really isn’t like they wouldn’t have any clue where to go with the console. Miiverse is quite a nice and well working concept, maybe not perfect, but it is really used by the community, same with eShop, after coming from the PS3, it was finally fun to buy stuff on an console eShop, so if they want, they really are still able to deliver. but whoever draw their roadmap should get fired right away. Why isn’t there any game really using that gamepad after nearly 1,5yrs? Pikmin 3 for instance has been ported from the Wii, so they couldn’t realy change the game to make use of the pad, but how comes this is the only strategy game? It’s like you would only be able to buy traditional console gaming-ports on the Apple Appstore instead of those angry-birds-style game that at least are perfectly designed to make use of their devices advantages. How comes Nintendo doesn’t seem to really have any idea how to use their own invention? I really aren’t one of the users complaining about the gamepad itself, but about how Nintendo can’t manage to show us real use for it. Then again, they actually did. In Nintendoland, they successfully throw some tech demos together that where quite fun, especiually those assymetric MP-concepts. But that’s long history, how comes they aren’t able to translate these concepts into real games, apart from WiiPartyU bullshit? And I’m talking befor the console gets 3yrs old. Why isn’t theer a 5th player in SM 3D World able to play apart from the others? or some special Mode offering something like this? anything, making fun use of that technology, if Nintendo ignores it, they shouldn’t complain when their 3rd parties do. Although they aren’t; Ubisoft really gave that system a try with ZombiU and Blacklist, both offering decent gamepad support. But however, they are gone now.

          • Simon Stevens

I enjoyed playing some third party games too, though the gamepad wouldn’t stretch to my bathroom without cutting off, try as I might lol just didn’t happen, I’m with you on the gamepad screen being shoddy too, it is shoddy, 480p… it looks terrible, somewhat accept maybe, sure, but to my eyes, pretty terrible over all in comparison to most of my devices around the house, I think what bothered me the most though was having essentially a tablet that just didn’t really do anything outside of games, it’s a nice option sure, but when the system is built around it (no work around), it becomes very frustrating, there’s not many apps but I appreciated the ease of us and the integrated miiverse into the Wii street U app, but outside of something like that, there’s not much going for it, no mobile games, no Facebook integration which would have been nice for mobile games, just…. nothing.

Another thing that bothered me was a few little niggles here and there, one of the main ones was that my external hard drive is essentially useless with it, when plugged in, the Wii U powers up and powers back down, doesn’t want to operate with it I’m afraid, meaning, I’d have to go out and buy a desktop hard drive with a plug hanging out, which to my eyes, is pretty disgusting to look at in comparison to a 2.5 hard drive, I really wish they’d have thought the system through rather than put there customers through hell over easy things that they could have done to avoid these issues, yet people are kind enough to ignore them like it’s okay that the system isn’t going to get 3rd party, it’s okay to be given flash memory, it’s okay for the gamepad to be useless, it’s okay to wait for months on end for a new game or a new feature or even just a fix to be released, when looking over the pond at other consoles, they have all that plus more, and for not much extra in terms of long term value for money.

The more I talk about it, the more I really want Iwata to be fired, before he has a chance of half assing a next generation machine, I’ll always maintain that he was lucky with the Wii because really, it could have gone either way, success due to the gimmick or flat out struggling all generation because it didn’t catch on, he can say “we are for casual gamers” all he wants but nobody casual would have heard about it lol just like nobody heard him this time around, if it wasn’t for liking all the Nintendo games and my son loving them and not wanting to play anything else, I probably would consider launching my Wii U’s off a bridge through all the crap I’ve endured from Nintendo this last year or so, the idea they would let things get this bad with no real plan b to save it, just baffles me beyond all believe, it’s like they want us to believe there idiots.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Most people here I believe are kids and teens, so there’s not a lot you can do. When they wisen up, they’ll see things more clearly. Most anyway.

          • NintendManiac

Please I’m glad to give Nintendo my hard earned money for the great games they give me.

          • Simon Stevens

great games sure, that poor business sense though…..

          • Simon Stevens

Started out on ebay, made 99p on a screen protector, didn’t operate on 200+ million losses, challenge accomplished

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            I detect anger.

      • Magnus Eriksson

You are right. They are first of all trying to trick the money from stupid people defending them for taking their money – like you.

        • NintendManiac

          We’re not talking about EA.

  • Simon Stevens

Brace yourselves, the wallet is opening, my child is spoilt, I set a bad precedent, being a failure as a father by setting the trend of buying him every 3DS game that warmed his little heart, now, DK, MK and SSB are all on the cards, then there’s Bayo and X for myself, I need *gulp* overtime

    • sd

Dude if you work overtime then you have no time to play any games.

      • Simon Stevens

I know, it’s already torture enough when I get into a game or anime knowing I have to wake up for work the next day, all day wondering “what happens next 0.0″, it was especially murder when I got real into future diary, so many plot twists and I had to turn Xenoblade off to go to work when possibly the biggest plot twist of the game came about, if you know what part I refer to, you know just how much I was crying at work, my girl at the time didn’t understand why I couldn’t make our after work coffee, fuck dat sh1t, ain’t my girl no more :D http://kawaii-mobile.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Mirai-Nikki.Yuno-Gasai.320×480-8-200×300.jpg

        • sd

I know what you mean. Different console but I started a new job the week the xbox one was released. You wait for a new console, then bam new job and stupid amount of work to do both at work and at home.

          • Simon Stevens

I have a feeling I’m gonna be much the same when I finally get my next ps or xb, I remember when I first bought the 360, I was a tad late to the party but had eternal sonata, blue dragon, lost oddyssey, tales of vesperia, fable 2, the last remnant and infinite undiscovery to get through, I had baggy blue ball eyes for months, so worth it :D

    • Link of all time

yeah, this dad thinks there is enough games to buy for wii u ths year. the only drought i see is the money drought.

      • Simon Stevens

So far, the little one has made a list, Sonic Boom, DK, SSB, MK and yarn yoshi, like last year didn’t bend me over enough with all the retail + digital downloads…. he’s only 5, I dread him being 10

        • Link of all time

my boy is the same age. i introduce him to nintendo last year. before the wii u my last console was the gamecube and that was in my closet for 10 years. he doesnt have a list yet, i just buy the games i want and tell his mom that they are for him lol.

          • Simon Stevens

I always play the games he asks for first lol his first console was the Wii, he tried the ps3 but didn’t like it, so…. wii u is our console, for better or worse, he loves the gamecube too :) he especially loves mario part y on it, can’t say i blame him, far better on gamecube than the Wii ones

          • Link of all time

i play his games first too lol. i got him a 3ds for christmas because i wanted to play a link between worlds. having a boy is great.

          • Simon Stevens

I remember when I got him his XL, I stole it for days to play fire emblem :,)

          • Link of all time

i should have got him the xl, my hand goes numb after 30 minutes.

          • Simon Stevens

lol i hve a 2ds now and it’s pretty comfortable :) but the xl…. MASSIVE difference

          • Magnus Eriksson

loooool. I do the same thing for my kids. Got a three year old girl here screaming for Metroid all day long :D

Just joking, but yeah. I use the same trick. Mine are 9 and 13

          • Link of all time

my other comment might have been harsh. I just ploped $60 on DK: TF. it will be my first DK game since the original arcade game. my boy didn’t ask for it, i think we will have fun playing together though.

      • thedeciderU

haha good point. i’m not a father, but my nes collection (when it was in its lifecycle) consisted of not more than 10 games (i had it for about 3-4 before we got a genesis model 2 with sonic 2 pack-in). they were almost all xmas gifts from parents and from an uncle, except tmnt II: the arcade game. my brother and i bought that together with saved allowance money. probably a year’s worth. damn, kids are spoiled these days haha

        • thedeciderU

and i was a fortunate kid. many i knew had less (less everything).

  • Shota

but its hourly preorders. but nonetheless good news

  • steveb944

Bring us to the top MK8! I can’t wait for it!

  • jjbredesen

Even after the horrible Direct of yesterday, and yes i still feel rather buthurt, this is what will make my Wii U purhashe worthy, this and Smash Bros and Zelda U are the reasons i still buy Nintendo consoles, and MK 8 will turn stuff around, but after 2015 what do we have?? Nintendo needs more games!!!

    • Magnus Eriksson

Lol, I bet you wont think this two months after you got the game.

      • Rick van der Linde

Lol, I still play Mario Kart Wii.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, haha! Thats actually true here too. Well, I traded it in, but regretted it ever since. Plays alot MK64 though.

      • jjbredesen

Nah, MK8 will not save Wii U, rather get sales up, not saying it will EXPLODE and sell like 1m a week, but that it will get them to sell atleast more than it is now, it will simply rise the avrage, and then when other games comes out the standart will get a bit higher etc. Nintendo have failed with Wii U, it has fantastic games, but the hardware is shit, and there are almost no games worth buying.

Just saying that there big 1st party games, are the only reason they are still alive. There next console better be good, i want Nintendo to do well, but its impossible for Wii U to do well unless they can release 2 fantastic games every month with just as much 3rd party support etc, there is no hope, i hope i am wrong, but i am not XD, 3DS on the other hand is fantastic, always great games to play.

Nintendo will have another generation, but it better be great, it makes me sad to see that a once fantastic company is now going the way the are going…

  • Magnus Eriksson

I think it might attract a few sadly. I feel sorry for them already :(

    • Donaald

I didn’t know fags could feel.

      • Magnus Eriksson

Why are you being homophobic? Are you some kind of nazi or redneck hillbilly KKK? Or just uneducated?

        • Lil J Moore
          • Guest

            MJ!!!

        • Daniel Gonzalez

I’d say lacks a sense of humor.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Nah, I think its some sort of self projection. Its pure psychology. People who tend to use words as gay, faggot etc as some sort of insult is very likely ashamed and insecure because they have homosexual fantasies (often combined with strong religious fanaticism and poor education). He is ashamed of it, angry at himself and wants to protect the truth of himself by turning it into what he thinks is an insult that he directs towards others. My guess is that this guy will come out of the closet as a gay himself in 10-15 years. Its quite symptomatic. Its only those people who live that kind of double life that thinks of that as some sort of insult. The rest of us just doesnt care.

      • Simon Stevens

        scummy little prick

        • Donaald

Awwww here to damage control in behalf of your boyfriend?

          • Magnus Eriksson

Did you know that homophobic men are those who get most aroused looking at gay porn? You think of homosexuality as a sin, that makes you feel ashamed and insecure. Thats why you use it in degrating way. Its actually very likely that you got homosexual tendences, and thats why you use it this way as a defense mechanism. I think you should talk to someone? Maybe your mom if shes a good listener, your teacher or your boss at your job. They will probably understand, and help you to gain confidence again. Good luck my friend :)

This is not me who says this. Its Sigmund Freud the world famous psychoanalytician. And there have been done alot of studies on this field. So according to science you are most likely someone who is getting sexual aroused thinking of men having sexual intercourse and giving each others fellatio. You probably think alot about this too. But you shouldnt be ashamed. Its ok to be gay :)

          • Donaald

Funny, you’re the one who brings topics such as arousal and suddenly I’m the insecure LMAO. I can’t care less about sins and shit I don’t even believe in.

          • Magnus Eriksson

You do not believe in God? So then your insecurities doesnt stem from the fear of hell because of your sinful thoughts? Im very sceptical. You have a very black or white mindset, also tend towards the racist way of thinking. Your dad was probably very authoritarian. You was alot afraid as a kid I think. That actually fits very well into the pattern. I feel sorry for you my friend :(

          • Donaald

LOL is that cheap psychology I’m reading?

          • Simon Stevens

He has big big penis, you have vewy tiny penis so you compensate by calling people fags, please undastand

          • Donaald

LMAO so you saw his penis lol you falied so miserably, screenshoted!

          • Simon Stevens

Sarcasm, but even if it was the truth, I would wear it on my arm with pride like a real man, only a worthless sack of shit would be against people for there sexuality, I guess your just a fossil in today’s society

          • Donaald

What the fuck does anyone’s sexuality have to do in this, dumbfuck?

      • Guest

        U(LOL) SHOULD KNOW.

        • Donaald

Yeah, I should know it every time you bury your head in the sand when I show you this video, faggot:

          • Magnus Eriksson

Another homophobic try to make an insult based on your inner life of sexual fantasies I see. The usage of words as fag or faggot are classical examples of homophobia, where you use alot of self projections in your insults. You probably think alot of homosexual behaviour, suddenly get a thought about kissing another man, touching him and perform different acts with him. That makes you ashamed and angry at yourself, because you dont want to be gay out of insecurity. This transforms the concept of gayness into something negative, or even hateful (its a classical example of self hate). Thats why you start to use it as insults. Its not your fault, but with time you could gain a more confidece and being more secure on your self. Maybe you find that its not that bad and that you even get the courage to live out this types of fantasies. Good luck my friend. This is the first step of the new you – the real and confident you.

          • Donaald

lol The typical answer you would expect from anybody from those shitty countries in europe. No, I can’t care less if you suck cocks or what your fantasies are. No, this is the kind of fucktard you are: https://encyclopediadramatica.es/Faggot

          • Magnus Eriksson

No, this is not a typical answer from a european. Its a typical answer from anyone who have studied just a little bit of psychology. And you cannot turn away from it, because its a fact. And there have been done alot of studies on this, also in US.

But I see theres another feature in you that actually confirms this. You also tendence towards the racist way of thinking, when saying “typical european”. That actually binds you much closer to conforming the hypothesis here. My guess is that you also get some sort of arousal from your replies. Its quite common in cases like you. Angry, insecure, from a religious home, thought much about men in sexual settings, a lot of shame, afraid of hell etc. Probably never finished school either :)

          • Donaald

LMAO at the attempt to insult me based of assumptions, hitting rock bottom aren’t we?

          • Rinslowe

I read an article on the Verge recently about internet trolls like Donald, quite right you are too…
Guy’s like these actually enjoy people getting worked up. Dunno about you, but I just think he’s an idiot. Being straight up about it. No sugar coating or politically correct blsht. Just a plain and simple – simpleton.

          • Rinslowe

            “those shitty countries in europe”
            – My my, you really are on a roll today, aren’t you “Donald”?

At this point you will earn yourself “truthteller” status. But arguably and I would be in favour of this approximation… “Arguably” – truthteller “was” a cut above your meager intellectual offerings, truth be told.

          • Donaald

Thank you for your irrelevant opinion.

          • Rinslowe

Oh no, thank you Donald for your valued reply to an apparently “irrelevant opinion” LOL
            :)

          • Donaald

            You’re welcome :)

          • Rinslowe

Technically “faggot” is just a bunch of twigs. The heterosexual world has moved on caveman. It’s just simply “Gay” and “Lesbian” now…
You obviously keep a very simple and secluded social circle. Well, each to their own.

          • Donaald

This is and will always be my definition of a fag:

            https://encyclopediadramatica.es/Faggot

          • Rinslowe

Well you originally wrote the word “faggot”…. And the term fag is equally outdated, just like your “link”. There’s very little in terms of intelligence to your definition. Keep it.

          • Donaald

Yeah, because there’s so much intelligence in damage control.

          • Guest

Yeah right. I don’t cry over pieces of plastic like you and other fanboys do LOL.

          • Donaald

But you do, in fact the other day you were advertising the ps4 here like a typical fanboy, flip-flopper.

          • Guest

But I’m just kidding around while you’re being all tough and serious. LMAO You’re so butthurt over pieces of plastic!

          • Donaald

I ain’t mad bro, see the fact that you need to explain yourself to me proves that you’re one butthurt here.

          • Donaald

I love how this video gets damage controlled with down votes lol like it does something.

      • greengecko007

How do comments like this not get deleted? I flagged this hours ago and it isn’t even hidden.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Lol, let it be. I would never think of it as an insult. Hate like this makes more shame out of himself than anyone else. There are reasons that he is this way, and thats called self projections. One day he will be more secure of himself, and then he will regret his behaviour towards others. Mark my words.

        • Donaald

          Why, Wii U mad?

          • Magnus Eriksson

No one is mad. We want to help you. We are your friends Donaald. You shouldnt be afraid of showing who you are. We like you for the good guy you are, and no one cares if you are gay. You dont need to be insecure and afraid here.

          • Donaald

I ain’t. But you seem to be.

      AHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

    *MK8 releases May 30th*
    Must…not…play…Must…study…for…finals…

  • Brandon

Well this will be a system seller, but not as much to surpass the ps4 in sales. Plus this just went on sale, but looking at it now its on the number two spot.

  • GABRIEL GARCIA

Mk8 is not the first good game of the year stupid!! The first one is DKTF !!!

    • LevenThumps

They didn’t say first good game, they said first BIG game, and I agree with them on this point. DKTF looks very good, but I think Mario Kart 8 is a bigger game, more known game, that more people get hyped up for than Donkey Kong.

      • ben

It is very good… I’m in Japan DKTF is amazing! Concider DKCR as just a practice for them making a Donkey Kong game..

        • Magnus Eriksson

Hi mr. Iwata. You have sunk deep now, coming here pretending to be someone else. We wont buy your games anyway.

  • William Cole

Dang, it beat Dragon Quest… that’s saying a lot! I can’t wait for this game. If this can’t save the Wii U… NOTHING CAN.

  • NintendManiac

You’re all so pathetic even on IGN people aren’t butthurt like you bitches.

    • Simon Stevens

lol off to go IGN with you then, we peasants love to bicker, sorry we can’t be so above everybody else your high and mightyness

  • Frankie

It is good to finally have a release date for this game, but the drought between February to May is bad for the Wii U. Then it goes to summer and then fall. Nintendo needed to have Smash and Mario Kart in the spring. It will be another rough start to the year for Nintendo.

  • Daniel Gonzalez

I love how the news mostly pertains to Japan and not North America and Europe. Lol. That doesn’t sound too promising.

    • Shota

and people doesn’t understand it’s updated hourly. people also can cancel preorders

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Indeed. That and while this game is expected to be a huge seller come May, software sales don’t guarantee hardware sales. Maybe it will push hardware out the door, but with the way Wii U games have sold so far, the odds are against it.

        • ben

Actually, it has been the number one game for 4 days in a row.. that is a lot of games.

It is outselling the PS4. They rank hardware and software together.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

How is a game that hasn’t even released yet outselling the PS4? Lol.

          • ben

The ps4 hasnt been released yet either….

          • ben

The PS4 is really hyped but it has a very small game library. I wonder if sales will continue to grow in the second half of the year. The XBOX sales are already falling.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Hyped or not, it’s outselling Xbox One and Wii U. That’s what matters at this point. People buy it cause they can expect quality games this year and the next. Wii U has an uncertain future right now, so few people are willing to risk buying one.

          • ben

Yeah, I can think of one game on the PS4 that is getting attention. Other than that it is a desert of nothingness. I don`t think the Wii U will suddenly start outselling the PS4 but it is not beyond imagining that next Christmas the Wii u will sell more than the ps4.

The hype will have died. The Wii U will have 5 huge games that are family friendly. The PS4 will be still expensive and will no longer be new.

I am only talking about the next Christmas season. Not the overall sales/

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Imagination is in the eye of the beholder, so it depends on who you’re talking to. Far as I can see, the Wii U had a good holiday in 2013, but it dipped back down after, which just tells me it’s not going to pick up like the Wii before it. Wii U will probably have a spike in sales when Mario Kart 8 hits stores on May 30th, but I don’t see it pushing enough hardware out the door. Judging by sales for their 1st parties thus far, they dip too quickly. Good example being SM3DW. You don’t see it in the top 10 any longer.

          • ben

I doubt any console will sell like the wii. It was a phenomenon that was detrimental to most Nintendo fans. I mean it was great financially for the company and there were some good games but that console lived too long.

Apart from that I agree with you. I hope sales improve for the sake of future game development. I want to see a wonderful 102 and I want to see a more developed pikmin game.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Both Playstation and PS2 sold more than Wii.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Well said.

          • ben

Yeah but the PS2 was good and the PS1 was awesome… the wii was… a piece of crap. Hence it was a phenomenon that so many people bought it.. Hey the PS4 is a piece of crap and people are buying that too… goes to show people are stupid.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Wii was fun in the beginning. But yeah, I agree that it never stood up to its expectations. They never managed to make the Motion control work perfect. Skyward Sword never got it more than 90-95%. Thats not good enough for a game that leans on the fighting that much. And that was one of their last games.

          • ben

I did not play Skyward sword because of the motion controls. I like motion controls in simple games and I like the drumming motion in DK. However, when forced to play a big game with nothing but motion controls the choice becomes questionable. Sword play was a great idea but sword play without resistance from the opponent will never work. Shadow boxing in Wii punch out was much more acceptable.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

PS2 sold 157 million units in it’s lifetime. It is indeed still possible. Wii was an interesting phenomenon, but it isn’t the only one that has done it in history.

          • ben

Yeah. I mean the wii was actually not a great console. I owned one and it really was a piece of crap, compared to the wii u. The sad thing is the Wii u is infinitely better. The ps2 was not perfect but it was a decent console and the ps1 was awesome, so the ps2 was always going to sell well.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

That still doesn’t make sense. Lol. Again, how is it outselling it if neither are in the market in that region? PS4 will be out in Japan in six days. Mario Kart 8 won’t be around for another few months. Your point doesn’t hold up well.

          • Shota

we will see if helps the wii u sales ( which mk games always do)
but ps4 also has games coming out with no drought. Heck ps4 sold more in it’s first month even though there were not enough games.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

It’s still selling fine now despite the lack of games. Yet, Wii U has more out there after over a year and can’t even maintain good hardware sales. Basically means that PS4 is more sought after right now. MK8 will help the Wii U I’m sure, but speaking in terms of hardware, the odds aren’t in its favor. SM3DW couldn’t even help in that area. We’ll see, though.

          • Shota

totally agree with you. people need to stop defending nintendo all the time. they need to be realistic.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Nintendo can’t go around depending on one game or two to get them out of a bad situation. While Sony and Microsoft 1st parties don’t sell as high as Nintendo 1st party, they are at least smart enough not to depend on a few games. They go out there and form relationships and allow those developers to be part of their console development process. Nintendo shuts third parties out completely and treats them as second best. It’s why most of them aren’t interested nor like really working with them.

Even way back then, Nintendo had strict policies if you go back far enough in history to find it. They limited third parties to to what they could release on the NES. So to be fair, not much as changed from Nintendo. People are indeed correct, their ideals are outdated and need to look at the bigger picture. Their way of business just limits their capabilities. I would be happy to see Iwata go and bring in someone who is more competent to what needs to be done.

          • 504HotBoy

In honest reality even if Nintendo did have the 3rd Party support and specs on same level with Sony & Microsoft. It still wouldn’t help them sale. Sure the Wii sold, but people who don’t even play games bought a Wii. The hype behind the motion controls help to attract casual gamers. But N64 was more powerful than PS and PS outsold it. Gamecube was more powerful than PS2 and PS2 outsold it.This coming from one of the biggest Nintendo (also Sega) fans. Nintendo is no longer the household name they were during the 80s/90s. What I mean by that is, it’s an all new generation of gamers. Most kids (speaking US only) mostly talk about Playstation & Xbox. Part of this has to do with Nintendo losing the market from Sony cause they stuck with cartridges and didn’t go CD-rom. Causing 3rd Party developers to jump ship. Because of the low storage of cartridges. Many of the franchises went, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Castlevania, Megaman, etc. My nephew for example he never got to experience Nintendo platforms. The first system he played was PS, followed by Dreamcast, PS2, 360 & PS3. He a Microsoft fan and now wants a Xbox One. Don’t get me wrong you still have a lot of die-hard Nintendo fans out there, but majority of these new generation gamers are mainly Sony & Microsoft fans(keep in mind im only talking about US). So Sony & Microsoft already have an advantage in the US over Nintendo, because they’re now more of a household name with these new generation of gamers. It also has to do with how in the past generation it has become more western influenced and a lot of western gamers are into FPS, Sports, and attracted to graphically intense games. Western games have been generating the most sales in the 7th generation. Strange coincidence that most western developers don’t want to deal with Nintendo.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

It’s more due to their policies over the years that alienated them. Even today, Nintendo doesn’t allow third parties in on the development process of their consoles. So that’s really a big factor. I’m not saying that if they changed that third parties will come back overnight, but it’d at least be a start in the right direction. Trust takes time to build.

          • Magnus Eriksson

You have many good points here, and you are right about the nineties. However, that was the nineties and I grew up then. It was never the hardware of N64 that alienated people, it was that it didnt feel modern. It was a powerful console, but it was based around the same tech as consoles had ever been. PS on the other hand used CD technology. CD was the cool thing back then. Before CD became popular everyone bought cassette tapes with music, or at rare occations LP’s. The thing is that when CD came the cassette was dead, no one wanted them anymore. The cartridge felt a little bit the same. It felt like technology from the old years. And it kind of was too. The CD could show short animations or vide clips bringing a feel of “almost like a movie”, or this is the future to it. Nintendo didnt do the same. Yes Mario 64 looked cool, and was fun too. But back then people didnt realize what revolution it was. Us kids thought Doom and Duke Nukem could pull off much of the same, but was cooler games. Lara Croft on PS didnt stand back either. Crash Bandicoot SEEMED to look better than Marios big and rough polygons and smeared graphics. Of course we dont see at it the same way today, but back then everyone did. And in a way Nintendo lived in the past with their cartridges instead of CD’s, and continued this with the Gamecube with mini-DVDs unable to play DVD’s in the middle of the DVD era. It never felt like “the new shit”. Then Nintendo did something totally unexpected with the Wii, and hit the right thing at a time when everyone sang on Sing Star, danced on Dance video games on PS2, played guitar hero and Eye Toy. They released the Wii Mote, and everyone wanted that. Today people doesnt give a shit about karaeoke, guitar hero, dance mats, and crap like that – that was the 2000’s and we are in mid 2010’s. Yeah, fitness and health are things today, and so is pad technology. So Nintendo thought right this time, but did it all wrong. XBox did something much more clever with their Smartglass thing, and Nintendo SHOULD have done something of the same (that could include their 3DS aswell. At least if they tried to reach out for the casuals. I think this is what they think to do in the future, but it should have been done early 2010’s and not later. Instead we ended up with something that could have felt cool in 2008-10. But feels very outdated in 2014. And thats a big problem with tech like this. It feels outdated very quickly. Thats why the Smartglass is better, because its potentially always the state of the art. That together with the fact that Nintendo is quite crappy compared to PS4 and XBOne makes it almost impossible for Nintendo to regain anything now. Not even their best titles will change that this product feels low-tech and old tech. They had their chance, but dropped the ball too many times to make this an interesting experience. Even a lowered price wont change this now. They should have made Wii U MUCH more powerful, and dont look back to the nineties with the illusion that power wasnt enough then. Back then their problem was the same as they do today – lean on old and outdated stuff and denying the rationale of modernizing.

          • Simon Stevens

dayum…. you just made me think of this stalker I had who made me mix tapes, the 90s rocked. I can still see myself listening to the alkaline trio song this could be love whilst running for my life :)

I want to post about Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. I am in Japan. Wow this game is amazing. First this game has a speed runner system online with video, world ranking, they needed this in PIkmin 3 missions, I’m so happy they put this in DK! To fully complete the game you need to be able to speed run levels. This is possible because it is running at 60fps.

THe graphics look better than anything I have seen on any system. I mean it is really beautiful.
I haven’t seen anything like the detail in any other game. I have all the wii u games. SM3DW is beautiful but nothing compared to the worlds in DKTF. (I would say it looks better than anything I have seen on any console so far.)

I read about load speeds being long. That seems like nonsense to me. The game takes a while to boot, but then levels seem to load faster than DKCR. I just finished DKCR again and I really can’t tell any difference in loading times. The levels are huge in DKTF. THey are also better balanced. There are less frustrating levels. The wave level in DKCR was a pain in the ass. Those sort of levels seem to have disappeared, probably because they can’t be speed run..

Anyway, This game is worth getting .

    • Magnus Eriksson

      I pass

      • ben

I think you`d pass anything on Nintendo so that is not an issue.

        • Mithiragi

You know he’s jk most of the time, right? Relax. Every little thing is gonna be alright.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

          Chillax.

          • ben

I wasnt taking him seriously at all.

      • Link of all time

no one really cares about what you’d pass on.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Apparently you do since you cared to comment about it.

that dish wasn’t for you, i didn’t even feed you Danny.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

It’s a comment section. So I’m free to respond to anyone here. So again, you care if you respond to any comment. Just pointing out errors in your words, which I have no problem doing with comments like yours. Thanks for the appetizer.

          • Link of all time

i don’t have time to play today, Danny. feel free not to respond, because here is the short form of what you would say. “blah, blah, blah, i have free speech, blah, blah, blah, it’s my right to be a troll, blah, blah, blah nintendo doom”

who am i kidding, of course your going to respond. well i’ll read it tonight when i get home.

        I passed…a kidney stone.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

I passed this huge thing, and glad I did.

          • Mithiragi

Yo get that away from my eyes! It reminds me of the time I passed that kidney stone! It looked exactly like the Xbox One. Size, shape, and everything. I’m gonna throw up! Aww…Oh…BlaARaraGGghhgh!!!

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Awwwh….come on. I mean it’s still useful for uhm….well you know…ehhhh…I got nothing bro.

          • Mithiragi

Good for watching porn on cable with a monthly subscription to playboy tv. What good is that though when you can watch porn on the gamepad for free?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Should’ve just called it PornBox.

          • Mithiragi

I guess so. Have you heard of some PornBoxes leaking white liquid? Now it all makes perfect sense.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Thats what I call a serious kidney stone :D

          • Mithiragi
          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Hahaha. Too true.

    • matthew garcia

Ha u must be on crack if u think donkey kong has the best graphics of all consoles. Last of us looks way better and thats last gen on ps3

      • Simon Stevens

good game, but the graphics weren’t all that, best graphics i’ve ever seen were on motorstorm pacific rift on ps3, fuck me….. it blew me away

        • matthew garcia

Racing games always look good cuz everything is moving fast. Last of us definitely more textures

          • Rinslowe

So long as frame rates are equally fast…

          • Simon Stevens

No that wasn’t it because even before the race started, it looked breath taking, on my tv anyway, the last of us did have good graphics, but the best?, I dunno, certainly top 5, I guess it depends on how you define graphical prowess, Wind Waker HD on Wii U was very simplistic yet absolutely outstanding, same for 3D World, Eternal Sonata had breath taking visuals too on ps3, that game was an art form, but for most detailed surroundings I’d probably have to agree with you on the last of us, though there were parts on uncharted 3 that simply goggled the brain :)

  • Green

Well Nintendo mentioned that once the momentum comes back they wouldn’t let it drop after MK8, but unfortunately thats not true, its going to have huge momentum, but then fall back to its 30k-40k units a week. = They’re only releasing games every 2.5 months so its only natural the consoles not selling.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Their 1st party alone isn’t gonna cut it this gen. They can’t even get that regulating right now. Mario Kart 8 will sell, but I it’s not gonna sell 5 to 10 million in hardware units as some people think it will. I suppose they can live the dream, but I prefer to be a realist at this point.

  • gamesplayswill

I struggle on how many people assume Nintendo will EVER `catch on`with sales at least. I mean, they only aim at the family, not the actual gamer.
I love Nintendo and their games… but c’mon, they’re known as a “Kids company” now. The sales will never pick up until NINTENDO THEMSELVES actually make a hardcore series. Or, at least a different 1st party FPS/TPS game with a quirky tone. (the similar direction the Half Life series went with.)
Let’s look at it this way: Who’d buy a game by Nintendo… that’d be violent? Loads of people! They’d be curious. Huehue.

I personally would love to see a grim violent action game by them. If you think about it… it sounds like a beast idea.

    For example:

*Beautiful art design. ( unlike what the CoD series is shitting out nowadays. Ahem )

*Fantasy-esque weapon choices. Bare in mind, Nintendo are masterful with fantasy.

*An ORIGINAL engine. Unlike the reused stuff that was made a decade back.

*Annnd a compelling story with character development (ish)

With them ideas in mind, i sound like a fanboy. BUT, still… think about ittttt…!

    • Simon Stevens

If Nintendo did an elder scrolls……… my goodness gracious me, my life would be complete

      • Daniel Gonzalez

They should take the Legend of Zelda franchise into a big open world like Skyrim. I would actually be interested in that. Plus those who enjoy Skyrim, might take notice too.

        • Simon Stevens

only if I can choose to be Zelda and give her a skimpy outfit, my skyrim character had a wicked ass

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Somehow I can see a lot of gamers attempting that. Lol.

      • gamesplayswill

If they replied to Titanfall…. I wouldn’t leave my house for decades.

    • asdfg

You’ll probably get a lot of hate but I agree with you. A more mature game with the *Nintendo Magic* would be insane.

      • gamesplayswill

I am surprised I didn’t get spammed with hate yet. Haha.
People seem to forget that Miyamoto said himself he’d “Love to make an FPS” So… it can happen. Unlikely though, sadly.

    • sd

Firstly if you see my comments you will know I am very annoyed with Nintendo and I think the Wii U is doomed with only 4 major releases by fall.

Having said that I disagree about games not being aimed at the gamer. I actually think games like Mario Kart, SSB, Mario, Donkey Kong etc are all all aimed at the core gamer for each of the game genres. The quality and appeal of the games is not issue. The issue is simple that Nintendo are out of touch, every 3 months they announce a further three month delay to their games. If all of the games slated for release were released by June the Wii U would take off. But its unlikely that all of these games will even be released in the next 12 months.

Its pretty simple, to succeed they need to pump out at least 1 high quality game a month. At the moment they are releasing 1 high quality game every 3 months. Its not enough to sustain sales.

    • C4

“Or, at least a different 1st party FPS/TPS game with a quirky tone. (the similar direction the Half Life series went with.)”

A Destiny or Titanfall FPS would work for sure, maybe not the typical military stuff, but who wants that anyway. TPS even more, like Uncharted with more exploration, the audience is on Wii U for sure. The boring military warfare setting won’t sell, but then again, games who tried to copy CoD didn’t sell that well either.

If they want “non-mature” visuals Borderlands or TimeSplitters did this really good. Halo itself looks kinda a bit cartoon-ish / stylized…

It would instantly add more diversity to their library. I’m sure a game like that or what you did describe _plus_ games like MK8 would make Wii U worth buying for more people. But they leave MK8 almost alone to release in may… it’s not a good message for people who like those games, but don’t see it a worthwhile purchase with typical Nintendo-character IPs make up more then 50% of the library.

    • Zuxs13

you just described most Nintendo games. Beautiful art design, look at any Zelda game or Mario galaxy or Xenoblades etc. Fantasy esgue weapon choices, whats more fantasy than the Master sword? An original engine, Nintendo uses their own engines and develops them for each new generation. Compelling story, well this is completley subjective, Skyward sword had a great story line, as did the Metroid Prime series, but if you want a story line like Last of Us, well there are many who find it over done and derivative.

Yes something in a darker more Mature setting would be cool to see them do, but the reality is, you don’t go to Disney World to watch Porn Stars or Horror scenes, you go because its a happy place for fun and a different kind of adventure. Same thing goes for Nintendo.

What they need to do is keep bringing in games like Bayonetta 2, Resident Evil but keep them exclusive (or at least timed).

    • Caleb Dudley

Well, it doesn’t HAVE to be a “mature” title. What’s really missing is a uniqueness in each genre. DK and Mario are all amazingly well made games, but they all cover the same genre of the platformer. Are they made well? Of course. Am I interested? Not so much, just because I don’t play platformers much. Nintendo just needs new and creative titles in each slot. As of now, they have no fps. Metroid is more of a puzzle/platformer with fps elements, so it doesn’t count.

Also, it’s a misconception that to have a good game in those more violent genres like fps, rpg, and action games, that they have to be rated M and filled with all that entails. I disagree. Goldeneye 007 was a great shooter rated T. Xenoblade was gobbled up. They weren’t rated M. SO, it is possible to make good games that fill slots that are sorely needed WITHOUT alienating audiences.

Nintendo can easily make something with the shininess of say, Titanfall, still have an original concept and good gameplay, and land under the M bar.

Really all the Wii U needs is some shiny. Like chrome shiny. Just enough to draw in new customers.

  • Googs

I’ve pre-ordered my copy the day after the Nintendo direct myself :P

  • Yousif Alromaithi

I just pre ordered the game. I will love it once it comes out but damn I want to hear more about X and Bayonetta 2 but still I can wait a few months. Good thing we have GBA Virtual Console but where is N64 and GameCube.

  • Re4wii2008

Doesn’t Surpise me! This game looks Insane!

  • sd

Sales will lift with donkey kong being released. The problem is by the end of March they will fall back to 30,000 a week. Sure they will then leap ahead at the end of May with Mario Kart. But again by July they will collapse. It is so annoying.

Personally with the difficulties they are having they should have just developed another batch of HD remakes (F Zero, star fox etc) and released these in between their big hitters. This might have worked and would have been quick to do. So many simple ways for them to increase sales. All they need are games and advertising. Its pretty simple really.

Oh and dont respond with ltd resources, they have Billions in instantly available cash, they could spend money to make money.

    • Guest

WII U WILL NEVER GAIN TRACTION. AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHRRRIBBAA!!!!

  • Rinslowe

MK8 is looking mighty impressive. Can’t wait. Would have been good to see more games confirmed from now till then though. Not sure if DKC TF is going to be enough to hold decent sales until end of May. Actually that’s kinda unlikely. Stranger things have happened I guess.
Still, I’m certain that MK8 is going to sell very, very well…
Confirmed release dates for Bayo 2, X, Smash and Fast Racing Neo please Ninty, would be good.

    • WellWisher

Agree 100%. I can’t wait for Mario Kart but I’m not going to bother with Tropical Freeze. It’s hard being a Wii U owner unless you’re interested in every single release for it.

      • ben

Tropical Freeze is awesome. Love this game. I`m 30 percent through and it is my favorite platform game I have played on the Wii U.

  • Joey

your such an idiot and a troll…3 times

    • Guest

*You’re such *an idiot and a troll.

Lol YOU’RE calling someone else an idiot, when you can’t even type grammatically correctly.

      • Kevin James McAllister

        “Grammatically correctly” is incorrect grammar.

        • Guest

Actually if you take out the word ‘grammatically’ it becomes: ‘When you can’t even type correct.’ That is wrong. To use ‘grammatically correct’ in a sentence, you say: ‘He/She is grammatically correct.’

          • Kevin James McAllister

But you didn’t type “grammatically correct”. You typed “grammatically correctly”. If you take out the word “grammatically”, then your sentence says, “…when you can’t even type correctly”.

  • Mithiragi

Wii U is better for porn than that POS Xbox69.

    • Mithiragi

Nintendo, you know a great way to market the Wii U? Put banners on Brazzers or Pornhub. 69 million sales confirmed.

      • asdfg

I don’t know if this has to do with anything but one day I saw the Hylian crest at the bottom of a porn banner

        ???

        • Mithiragi

That’s some good sneaky advertising right there.

  • HydePark1980

I’ve been reading quite a few of these comments and I gotta say that there’s a lot of hate and animosity towards Nintendo. That being said unless you have an inside man who has a seat on the board that’s been telling you that “the Wii U is going to hell in a hand-basket” it’s a safe bet you probably don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about.

This road that gamers are on is getting old and tired and i’m calling bullshit here and now. Gamers today are singing their praises as they bare witness to Nintendo’s epic struggle, after all what gamer today is going to respect a company that continues to maintain high level of standards that made them what they are today. God forbid they actually succeed, for gamers the only thing worse than Nintendo not being like every other publisher is Nintendo actually succeeding

After all according to the logic of some gamers here Nintendo should just thrown it in and follow the western philosophy of bigger, badder and louder. Gamers today may not believe Nintendo will survive, but if we think for one second Sony and MS are gonna break the glass ceiling and take gaming to the next we’re all in for a rude awakening………no risk no reward.

    • Marcus Larsson

Hey we all want Nintendo to succeed, but it is on their table to fix games for us.
They have 19 billion that they dont touch and they can buy third party support if they have to, and they should

      • HydePark1980

People who want something to succeed will support it not tear it down at any convenient opportunity. As for buying third party support, why should they? Maybe publishers aren’t as good or creative as they think they are if they can’t even come up with a game that would sell just as well as a 1st party game on the Wii U.

If you want a game to sell well on Wii U then make a game that would sell well on the Wii U, stop blaming Nintendo because you can’t pull up your big boy pants and get the job done.

        • Marcus Larsson

The problem is that third party havent sold as well on a Nintendo as any other console since snes.

Thats why they are running from Nintendo, Nintendo-titles and party-games overshadows their titles.

But with the redemption and success of wii people were hoping for a HD Nintendo-console with both Mario and gta.
But no it was too late.
This is were Nintendo should throw money at third party big titles.

What do you think Sony and Microsoft does?
And Nintendo has 19 BILLION DOLLARS just sitting for show.
They could win the whole monopoly if they just gambled

          • HydePark1980

Let’s be real here, third parties are staying away from Nintendo because they don’t share the same vision when it comes to the future of gaming. Nintendo runs it company and produces games at a specific standard that a lot of other publishers have either never had or totally forgotten.

Nintendo shouldn’t have to throw money at third parties to get games, if i was a publisher the first system I would consider making a game for would be the Wii U and you bet your ass it would sell millions. Why? because Nintendo seeks to evolve gaming, MS and Sony only seek to upgrade it.

Nintendo has cash to burn simply because they don’t burn it, when it comes to the financial stability of the company they can only look to themselves. Companies like Sony and MS have mommy and daddy to bail them out when their gaming divisions are losing millions, so yeah it’s real real easy for them to go out and throw money at third parties. So the question you got to ask yourself is……..is this new generation of gamers who are mostly only interested in shooters worth the gamble? Not when they change their opinions as often as they change their underwear.

          • nexxus6

Well said…everything you posted above hits the mark.

          • Marcus Larsson

If u look at sales figures for third party-games from n64 and forward they didnt sell half as well as a nintendo-title, no matter what genre. Shooter or platform.

Im sorry to say but you are not the one bringing in cash, the whole business is relied on what people buy.
No matter what genre or value.
            Simple facts.

I see what you are trying to say but nintendo needs both worlds to exist and by throwing some of their money they can get there and even win every gamer over.

          • HydePark1980

Third parties are the ones who put themselves in this position in the first place. Third parties are the ones that decided to walk away from Nintendo and with that Nintendo had to pick up the slack in developing quality games that could keep up with third parties. So now for the exception of a few I’m suppose to feel bad because their titles don’t sell as well as Nintendo’s……….sorry but I don’t.

The sad irony is that most of these developers that left Nintendo were at the peak of greatness and now have become former shadows of themselves and forced to westernize themselves to stay relevant.

The old saying goes “you gotta spend money to make money” and while the easy solution would be for Nintendo to foot the bill for these publishers, it’s not really the best plan. For instance there’s no guarantee that other publishers will just suddenly start developing for them of their own free will. Furthermore when you start throwing money at developers where does it end?

          • Marcus Larsson

You dont have to feel bad about anything but what the future beholds no one knows.
But right now things look bad and more and more people see that the third party games is released for anything but the wii u.

When the throw money at developers it leads to some exclusivity and something certain, like a release.
But anyhow i think its too late for that, they should have paid for an gta v-release which wouldve made many people buy it at that time.

          • HydePark1980

There’s no guarantee that paying for GTA V would have spike sales tremendously. Nintendo just needs to stick with what they do best, creating memorable gameplay experiences. Leave throwing money at third parties to Sony and MS, that’s what they’re good (although their finance advisers may have something to say about that) sells tons of systems and still staying in the red really isn’t doing your company an favors. You may be winning points with your fans but you’re certainly not winning any points with you’re stock holders.

  • classicgamer20

    Cough xbox1 cough

  • Josie the Sketcher

I’m so hyped up for this game. It looks really fun and wacky.

  • Michał Pasternak

No, it won’t have the same effect. Wii U compared to Wii, Xbox 360 or PS3 has no games. For me it is similar to PS Vita. That’s from Wii U owner.

  • Josie the Sketcher

Derp! I am a PS4 fanboy and the console is so powerful. *Plays Infamous: Second Son* WOW!! Look at those graphics, it’s so realistic. Derp! Derp! Derp!

  • Josie the Sketcher

Sony themselves are awesome, but their community are fast becoming such snobs – even worse than Microsoft fans. So now you see what console wars do to peoples brains?

    War. War never changes!

  • buz

For the Next Nintendo Console they need a Zelda title and Wii sports 2 as launch titles, it worked for the Wii.
I waited 8 months to get a Wii U simply because there were no games that caught my attention( there were great games but none that really mattered to me). if Nintendo were to Launch a Zelda game BaM! you’ll have all the Nintendo Fans and another Wii sports BaM! they’ll have all the casual’s (I also loved Wii sports).
I have got every single Nintendo Console at launch except for the Wii U it’s been fantastic now but wasn’t worth my time when it launched.

I just don’t understand why Nintendo won’t give us what we want.
They have the world greatest Franchises: Metroid, Star Fox, F-zero, Zelda, Mario, Pikmin, and TONS More!

If Nintendo Want their fans on board straight away launch a Zelda Title,
Year 1: Zelda + Mario Kart + Pikmin + Mario Bros
Year 2: Metroid + Donkey Kong + Pokemon Online +Smash Bros
    Year 3: F-Zero + Mario 3D + New Franchise + Star Fox

After they can just release sequels for all I care, but there is just no way Gamer or casual could resist that set up.

    • Mithiragi

A sequel to Kid Icarus Uprising for Wii U would sound good too. Or what about rebooting the Ice Climbers franchise like Nintendo did with Kid Icarus Uprising? There are so many side scrollers nowadays. It would be great to see a vertical scroller for once, updated with hd graphics.

Here is what I would like to see:
As Popo and Nana head up the mountains, the difficulty increases, there would be cabins that could act as rest spots and they could talk to NPCs, multiple caves and paths up each mountain, beautiful background scenery viewing the distant aurorae and glistening snow, side quests like fishing or tobogganing, power ups and unlockables, and being able to unlock Mt. Everest as a bonus stage.

      • classicgamer20

So it would be kinda like a mix between a vertical platformer and an rpg. I would totally buy that that.

        • Mithiragi

Yeah it’s kinda like that. I just think that the Ice Climbers should get some recognition. I miss em’ lol

  • Zanzama

They merely need to advertise the shit out of it for the west

  • PaulRuddsHair

I just wanted to chime in and say that my family and I also thoroughly enjoy the Wii U. I know Nintendo isn’t handling things perfectly, but we have plenty of games to play and really have fun doing it. We play everything from CoD to Mario 3D to Wii Party U. So, I guess, count us among the loyal Nintendo fans who love the system.

  • ZeldaFanzzzz

    Oh time to preorder mines!!!

  • InterTreble

Don’t tell the last word about Wii U before the time… It’s an error certain people has already done with Wii and 3DS. And we know very well how it ended up…

  • RichM

I’m looking forward to this game.

  • McBlink

It’s amazing the amount of negativity that is being posted by a positive article.

  • starwars360

See? Same way as Wii had did. Mario Kart Wii rises fucked up to air and into space to bought load of sold and bucks for Nintendo so this will same happens. Lol

    • Fred

Not me, I loved 64 and Double Dash, but I hated Wii and 7. I already have and LOVE Sonic Transformed on my Wii U so I’m good.

      • Mario

Well, at least you like that game, which I heard was pretty good.

        • Fred

Yes it is REALLY good. I honestly don’t understand why it didn’t sell much better as it is really good and it was/is cheaper. (it was never a $60 or even $50 game)
What made you decide to not get it even though you heard it was good?
