Monster Hunter Frontier GG Wii U box art for Japan

monster_hunter_frontier_gg_boxart-656x920

Capcom eternally teases the West when it comes to Monster Hunter releases, but perhaps this is something we’ll see in the future, as Capcom’s boss has mentioned wanting to explore options for an online Monster Hunter outside of Japan. Currently, Monster Hunter Frontier G is an online experience that has been released on several different platforms including PC and Xbox 360. A new, updated version of the game called Monster Hunter Frontier GG will appear on PS3, Wii U, and PS Vita some time this year.

You can see the box art for the Wii U version above, which doesn’t have a solid release date yet. Currently, the only information we have about Monster Hunter is that Monster Hunter 4 will be heading to the West sometime in 2015, but that’s for Nintendo 3DS only for now. It’s likely that depending on sales of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, we could see a second installment released on the Wii U in the West.

I say Monster Hunter comes to the Wii U in North America in 2016

    • Donaald

      If we’re lucky

      • Ducked

the west is up all night to get lucky…

    • Elem187

      I say 2015

  • jjbredesen

These guys know how to make box art, love it. Hoping for a release soon, Wii U needs games and fast!

    • CEObrainz

Although I’d prefer Ultimate 4 to come out sooner instead of frontier for the Wii U, I do agree that the Wii U needs a bigger library of good games.

      • jjbredesen

Yup, not played the series, but it is huge in Japan, and its going to be huge in the west, a lot of peope i know are starting to play it, but we need like 1 game evey month, and as far as i am concerned we don’t have anything untill may… Thats a 3month gap!

        • Ducked

Why are you hoping for a release date if you still haven’t played Ultimate 3 or any of the other Monster Hunter games?

          • jjbredesen

Not for me, but for the fanst of the series, it would help fill the gap, i still have to play 1,2 and 3, but for those that have they should give them a release date.

      • Elem187

MH4 is only on 3DS. I do not see Capcom porting MH4 to Wii U just to release it in North America and Europe…. They will localize titles for us but I don’t see them going through the process of both porting and localizing a game just for our consumption.

Monster Hunter Frontier is Capcom’s Wii U MH franchise and the 3DS is the target for standard MH releases in Japan. I don’t see them changing that just for us.

        • CEObrainz

They did that with MH3U, producing the game both for the Wii U and 3DS, granted they were HD ports of Tri for the Wii. However it’s not completely unlikely to see another release on the Wii U if both the user base increases and the Nintendo-Capcom relationship is still good by 2015+.

  • Frankie

The Wii U needs games, but not another Monster Hunter game. It needs different games, not the same ones.

    • Gameonfool

Still wouldn’t hurt though would it

      • Frankie

Probably would considering there is a Monster Hunter game on the Wii U from last year. So it would just make a game on the system worth less because there is a new one.

        • Gameonfool

It would only make it less if people brought the new one and if they did then its good business for wii u and every good game has a chance of selling some systems

          • Frankie

The Wii U needs games, not the same games already on it.

          • Justin Gray

Right. Because one MH game is plenty but 30 Final Fantasy games is epic. How many FF games this year and last year? Well, when one is a MMO and the other is not, you can’t say it’s just the same game can you?

          • Frankie

Good point. You brought up something not mentioned to justify yourself. I said the Wii U needs games that are not already on the system. Releasing a new Monster Hunter is not going to suddenly get people to buy the Wii U. Releasing a different type of game will. If people want Monster Hunter they will buy it, releasing a new one is not going to change that. I did not say anything about Final Fantasy, but good job making an irrelevant point. FFXV is not even coming to the Wii U, so your argument fails. If you are referring to the E-Shop that is something completely different and not a driving factor behind console sales. I will admit you are right about the number of Final Fantasy games, there is too many and that is an issue Square Enix needs to address.

          • Gameonfool

All your points are irrelevant just like you. It would not hurt to release this, of course the wii u needs more new games too no one is disputing that fool.

          • Frankie

lol I guess I am irrelevant. Once again you are just strawmanning. I never said it would hurt to releasing it, I never said it would. I just said it needs new games and you got defensive.

          • Elem187

Your point is even dumber…. So because it’s not a system seller it shouldn’t exist, it shouldn’t even be released? That’s straight up asinine.

Monster Hunter games are a lot of fun and can eat up hundreds of hours of play time. For a system with very sparse releases, it could use as many hundred+ hour games as it can possibly get.

          • Frankie

My point is that releasing a new version of a game already on the system is not going to suddenly make it sell systems. The Wii U needs games, but not games already available on it, simple as that.

          • Justin Gray

It is the difference between an online multiplayer game and an MMO that I was trying to point out. It IS a different kind of game in that sense. A different game in the same way Realm Reborn and FF15 will be appealing to different audiences. I know people who play FF but not an MMO FF and then I know people who strickly play MMO’s and may be enticed by a console MMO like Realm Reborm or Frontier GG.

    • Elem187

The Wii U needs every game it can get…. I’m not understanding this idea that the Wii U should reject ALL games that aren’t system sellers? It’s the stupidest thing I ever heard. It’s right up there with idiots who keep spreading false rumors that if your Nintendo system breaks you lose all of your purchased downloads

      • Gameonfool

Amen brother, I’ve been trying to tell him

      • Frankie

You are not understanding what I am saying. I will break it down very simple for you. The Wii U needs new games. That means a different title then already available. The Wii U could have 20 Monster Hunter games, but it is not going to make the system sell anymore then having one. The Wii U does not need every game it can get. There are plenty of terrible games that are better off not coming to the Wii U. The Wii U has a good selection of games, and just needs some third party support. Throwing games onto the Wii U is a bad idea. Nintendo likes to have good games on their systems and that is why they were so selective about who could make games with them before.

        • J_Joestar

on that same train of thought though,
if MHFGG came out on every other system except the Wii U then you would have people crying about lack of 3rd Party support.
sure they don’t need every game, but a multi-platform release of a popular (in Japan) franchise definitely helps it more than it hurts. Although a MH4G HD would probably help a lot more.

          • Frankie

Exactly. Every game helps, but there are ones that can help more.

  • andrewjcole

I’m guessing the case is black? If this game comes to the west, it would be nice if they could keep that box art.

    • SantiN90

All “Mature” Wii U games in Japan come in a black case (and a black gradient on the blue Wii U ribbon as well)

      • http://www.facebook.com/ericazure Azure

l really wish they would have done this for the US, I love the way they look.

  • Zanzama

Epic box art even though that armor makes the hunter kinda look like a postman

    • nin-10-doughfan

      ya right!

    • Kaihaku

Delivering the post can be epic.

    • DragonSilths

I think he looks more like the toy soldier who bangs the drum in the nut cracker…

    • Logan Waltz

On the fire breathing, ass kicking unicorn express.

    • Justin Gray

      MH going postal?

    • teknik1200

Amazing how even that is epic and makes me want dat armor set!

    • teknik1200

      I’m thinking nutcracker actually?

  • Matt Cameron

I love the darker blue on the top with the Wii U branding!

    • Dark-Link73

      Totally agree! It looks awesome!

  • Sdudyoy

If only we could have similar box art in the US.

  • hikkerd

    gg capcom… gg

    • Justin Gray

      LOL, hilarious!

  • nonscpo

Lol next up G G G for ps4 and xbox one.

    • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

lol… no, just no. Monster Hunter hasn’t done to well on PS, Japan is also anti-Xbox. Probably Monster Hunter Frontier GG will release on PS4 though, but a GGG version, not gonna happen.

      • J_Joestar

yeah, the 360 had the exclusive console version of MHFG for a while and it didn’t really do much to push it.

    • Elem187

It will bomb on PS4 and xBone because that demographic cares about graphics over gameplay. The biggest running fued of the last generation between PS3 and 360 owners was always, always about which port look marginally better than the other one. Those gamers are obsessed over graphics, no way they want a game like Monster Hunter.

    • J_Joestar

      GGG?

      Three-G?
I would only use hammers and yell out HIKARI NI NAREEEEE!!!!! with every Super Pound.

  • steveb944

Is that a freaking lazer or gun? My god I can’t wait for this to release EVENTUALLY on Wii U for the west.

  • Donaald

Why can’t we have covers like that? Better yet, why don’t they give you a poster of the cover when you purchase the game?

  • Karim Metwaly

I like the smoked out “black” case color

  • Dark-Link73

I really, really, REALLY, hope MH4 makes it to the Wii U with local multi with the 3DS. My kids and I are having sooo much fun playing MH3U at home.

    • Elem187

They won’t port MH4 to the Wii U just for North America and Europe…. In Japan MH4 is only for 3DS. Monster Hunter Frontier GG is the Wii U MH in Japan.

If we get a Wii U Monster Hunter it will be Frontier GG….. I’m totally fine with that. My biggest complaint about MH3U was the whole lobby system of connecting to a room. It broke immersion too many times. That system would be fine on a handheld, but on a console the immersion needs to remain static.

      • Dark-Link73

You never know, CAPCOM might actually do it later on. However, if they don’t, it’ll be a shame. Even though I have both MH titles for Wii and for U, I never really cared for the games for me alone. My kids love them and I enjoy playing the game with them. So most likely I will get MH4 for the 3DS, but it’ll be a bargain bin purchase for me.

        • J_Joestar

The main reason that they made MH3U for the Wii U was because Capcom didn’t think the game would do well without online.
MH4/U will have Online Multi-player built-in to it so there really isn’t much reason for them to need a Wii U version, it is possible but unlikely.

          • Dark-Link73

            Bummer :-(

  • Carl Fin

Awesome work on the box art. Did you see the Wii U almost caught the xbone on sales last week? Here’s some nice ideas for the Wii U or simply U as I like to call it.
