Sonic is coming to the Wii U… and other platforms in 2015

254687-SonicLostWorld

Last year during a Nintendo Direct, Satoru Iwata announced three exclusive Sonic titles to come to the Wii U. We’ve seen two of those, in the form of Sonic Lost World and Mario & Sonic at Sochi 2014. Now it looks like that third title may be expanding onto other platforms. A rumor last year said we’d see both titles release on the Wii U within 2013, but we know that didn’t happen.

Perhaps Sega is getting cold feet about yet another Wii U exclusive and decided to include other platforms as well? What do you think?

The world? The world LOVES me kid!

      • Donaald

No disrespect, Sonic, I still think you’re cool, but most of the people that “love” you are like this:

        http://www.sonic-online.com/sonicpassion/

        • LJay

Holy mother of satan-what is wrong with people these days!!???how did you find that??

Check the link if you want to get freaked right out….

  • Shota

could also be sega all star racing

    • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

Maybe. But i don’t think everyone is waiting for a third all star racing, Even Sega!

      • Shota

        true

        • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

          Yep

  • Mr Ninty

PEOPLE. this sonic game is based on the upcoming tv-show, and there for it will be on the x1 and ps4. the wiiu exclusive is still in the works.

    • Shota

how do you know that? its tba. otherwise wouldn’t it say game from the upcoming tv series.

      • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

well it can be. look to SA,SA2 and Sonic X. get it!!!

        • Shota

sonic x was closely involved with sonic team. the new series made by americans would make it different

  • gtosheex

not related to article: but who else thinks the superbowl would have been the PERFECT opportunity for nintendo to advertise wii u?

    • rp17

Ikr, that’s what i was thinking.

ps look at their newest commercial

      • Shota

        seen it hours agp

        • rp17

Ok… i just thought WiiUDaily could talk about one of the best commercials Nintendo has made for a while. I mean it is better than those little kids with a whiteboard, right?

          • LightupmyLife

That was horrible advertising and acting even.

          • fireheartis1

Oh come on the little boy who says “hot buttered popcorn that’s a deal” was really funny. You have to admit that one man.

          • Shota

that’s true. but the acting was horrible.

          • kevinxDxD

Could you guy’s post the link of the commercial you are talking about? I don’t think I ever saw that one.

          • Guest

            ??

          • rp17

Here’s the commerical we were talking about

          • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

What Kind of Game is That!??!

      • Ducked

Cranky Kong’s unqiue gameplay *cough* Scrooge McDuck of DuckTales *cough*

        • LightupmyLife

All this time I thought I was the only one who noticed that. Nintendo was very original with that one.

    • AkaLink77

It costs 4 million dollars to advertise during the super bowl!…Not saying Nin cant afford it but it would be a waste cuz there arent many games to advertise on the side of WiiU…
      at least not yet…

      • AkaLink77

…and about the new sonic game… they better include chao’s and online chao’s, other wise ill just ignore this game.
A cool thing would be if they combine Sonic adventure 1 and 2 and rename it
        Sonic: Journey
        but i doubt they’ll ever do that. ;,,,{

        • Sonic the Hedgehog

Who knows? They could bring out my 3rd Adventure game.
After all, my Unleashed game was supposed to be SA3!

          • AkaLink77

Really? Unleashed was supposed to be SA3? Then I guess there is some hope. :)

          • Simon Stevens

I hope not, those Knuckles crystals stages were annoying as hell >.>

          • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

Maybe. The name was very close to SA3. Sonic World Adventure isn’t it.

      • gtosheex

yeah i agree there aren’t any “games” to advertise, but i feel it was a perfect time to just advertise the “Wii U” itself. I mean ESPECIALLY during a boring superbowl, people start to watch for the commercials. That’s all people were talking about today – the funniest/most memorable commercials. Nintendo had a chance to make a HILARIOUS commercial for a more mature audience and maybe that would have been the one everyone talks about the next day and remembers!

      • ConCity Soldier

They could have advertised the upcoming games. X, Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2, and Mario Kart 8. They could have shown short gameplay videos of what they have finished on those games so far. A commercial like that at the right time (Super Bowl) could have been epic.

    • LightupmyLife

The Super Bowl was a blowout. So not advertising on a boring event to me was smart. I didn’t even make it through half time.

    • Donaald

Nintendo is catering to a more family friendly audience, while “the big game” caters to a more “mature” audience.

    • Wren Justin Umlauf

It would have been a great opportunity to show off Nintendo TVii and the Super Bowl integration they had with the Jersey sweepstakes thing, as well as how other sports work with TVii. Just don’t know if it would have been worth the price. I didn’t see any video game commercials at all

    • Yousif Alromaithi

Super Bowl was really bad last night because the broncos lost. Poor Peyton Manning. The team really played bad and I was shocked. The Seattle pulled the biggest upset in the history of Super Bowl. They were fast and playing defense thats why the lost. The problem that the Broncos was playing by themselves not as a team.

    • ConCity Soldier

I said the same thing last night.

  • Deadpool U

I don’t think the game is real but if it is it’s gonna be in 2015 and wouldn’t be the exclusive since Sega does have a contract so they really can’t back out.

    • Sonic the Hedgehog

Well, I hope it’s none of that “Static the Hedgehog” crap.

      • Deadpool U

I wouldn’t be I mean a game centered around clones is ridiculous but if it was about Eggman cloning an evil Sonic that’d be a different story that would be a way to add Scrouge to the game universe.

        • Shota

ken pontac should fuck the hell up. can’t write a decent sonic story and gets money

      • Shota

i haven’t seen you in a while pal. welcome back

        • Sonic the Hedgehog

Thanks! Feels good to be back!
Eggman was up to no good again…

          • Shota

XD glad you defeated Mc nose hair

          • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

Eggman doing this again, again, again and again. He NEVER Give up! even he show he doing something Nice only you don’t believe him. How to you know Eggman is hiding something if he will doing something nice? even Tails didn’t know when he will do this.

      • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

If it was Real, they didn’t give us that details already. but this game don’t have any details.

    • Ducked

I’m wondering what happened to that new Crash Bandicoot game…

      • LightupmyLife

It crashed. Recovery time is unknown.

        • Ducked

Maybe Naughty Dog will buy the franchise back

          • LightupmyLife

That would be nice. I always saw it as a Sony franchise.

          • Ducked

Same here, once Naughty Dog left it, it went downhill The first three Crash games were always the best.

          • LightupmyLife

Indeed. Sony should bring it back home where it belongs. With Naughty Dog.

          • http://its-yuma-tsukumo.tumblr.com/ Yuma Tsukumo

Back in the 90s i always thought of Crash being the mascot of Sony, Playing the game on other consoles seems a little strange to me.

          • LightupmyLife

            Agreed.

          • Ducked

Yeah, the only good games that were multiplatform was the Wrath of Cortex. The only game that kept the original roots. Jak & Daxter were great games, but nothing like Crash Bandicoot.

  • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

Hmm? Another Sonic game in 2015, then that means the last “exclusive” should launch somewhere this year on WiiU I assume? We’ll see. So going off topic yet still on topic Sonic related, I plan on buying Sonic Lost World for my newly aquired WiiU soon, is Sonic Lost world any good? It looks so much fun to me but I haven’t been able to try it yet, been busy setting up and updating WiiU the past few days so didn’t had much quality WiiU time yet. Is it worth it?

    • Deadpool U

Its worth it alright great game and I personally wouldn’t listen to a lot of critics since some are biased.

      • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

Exactly, critics are way to biased, I’ve seen it to often as of late especially the last year regarding WiiU, so I never listen to critics, unless I have tried and I have to agree with them, but often I disagree with critics, so I thought the best way to ask was here on WiiU daily, many day one adopters here, and I think they have the fairest comments on things like this, because they played it. I’ll probably pick it up somewhere later this week after work.

        • Deadpool U

Yeah and let me show you one of the most biased reviews to exist.

          • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

lol now that really is a biased review indeed, so i’m convinced I should buy it. I’ll add the game to my collection this week, if it’s in stock at my local store.

          • rp17

To be fair, (I haven’t tried the game so I can’t really judge) it does look like the controls could’ve been polished a little more. Then again old classics (specifically NES) had clunky controls and that’s what made them so hard and fun. But most of that review was just him saying this game is too hard for me, so it sucks. lol

          • Kaleb

In all honesty I do agree with the 2d vs the 3d in this video

    • Sonic the Hedgehog

I can tell you, it’s good!

      • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

…Hmm promoting your own game Sonic? I like your style haha

    • Mario

It’s more of a love or hate thing. You either love this game or you hate it. It depends on who plays the game.

      • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

I used to hate Sonic, but after I played it for the first time (mega drive) I actually misjudged Sonic… It was lot’s of fun (2D classics atleast).

        • Sonic the Hedgehog

Glad my games changed your mind! Have you tried Generations?

          • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

No, I haven’t, your last game I played was Sonic Adventure recently on a dreamcast. My local games store has an awesome Retro corner set up, Sonic was in the Dreamcast, and had to play :)

          • Sonic the Hedgehog

Try it! Your opinion might change too!

    • SuperSonicBrawler

Speaking as someone who owns the game himself, I gotta say, as far as Sonic games go, I really didn’t like Lost World. The controls are unlike any other Sonic game before, and I don’t mean that in a good way. If you’re looking for a fairly unbiased review, I recommend checking this guy out. He pretty much sums up how I feel about the game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSPQz-YAuoo

  • Squid

It depends, IS this the exclusive?

  • LightupmyLife

Not really huge news considering Sega and Nintendo are like study buddies. Nice news to know. I do like some Sonic games.

  • BIG Franky

I’m guessing that the last exclusive Sonic Wii U game will be a Mario & Sonic at the Summer Olympics game….. seems to make the most sense… those titles always seem to sell pretty good.

I don’t remember any announcements that specifically said that the 3 Sonic titles for Wii U were the next projects SEGA was working on in order…. I’m guessing the next Summer Olympics title will come out in 2015 and that this next multi-platform title will be a different game altogether….. unrelated to the three-game exclusivity deal.

    • Deadpool U

They already made one of those and I don’t think they’d release two Olympic games near the same year.

      • BIG Franky

they’ve released multiple iterations in the past, at always the same interval….. the Winter Olympics game released the Fall before the Winter Olympics (2013), with the Summer Olympics game being released the Fall before the Summer Olympics (2015)…. it would match the schedule they have always stuck with in past Mario & Sonic releases… the games sell enough to warrant their release… I doubt a Summer game will be skipped.

        • BIG Franky

or for all we know, the Sonic & Mario Summer Games title will be released in early 2016… my point is, SEGA can still honor its obligation of delivering 3 Wii U exclusive titles even while releasing a multi-plat title next year…..

    • Mario

But it can’t be. There’s no way that a Mario and Sonic crossover could appear on consoles that aren’t from NIntendo.

      • BIG Franky

dude… of course not!! read my comment… i’m saying that my guess is the Sonic & Mario crossover is the third Wii U exclusive and any other multi-play games would be a totally different title. my point is, SEGA can still honor its commitment to Nintendo while still releasing other multi-platform titles…

        • Mario

          What kind of crossover?

          • BIG Franky

omigosh… I feel like i’m on candid camera reading these comments, LOL…. MARIO & SONIC AT THE SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

please…. PLEASE… for the sake of all that is good and holy…. re-read my comments!

          • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

REALLY Can you Read Mario Oh My Gosh!!!

          • Mario

Isn’t it a little too early for that?

  • Donaald

I haven’t cared about a Sonic Game since 1999. Downvoters, come at me!

    • Ducked

Sonic Adventure 2 was the last good Sonic game…

      • Donaald

        Agree

      • Sonic the Hedgehog

Actually, Many people say Generations is.

        • Ducked

Generations switched around to much in 2D/3D

          • Sonic the Hedgehog

And my second adventure game had more treasure hunting than actual speed platforming.
Besides, 2D is how I grew up. Gotta stick to my roots.

          • Ducked

Just make sure Sega doesn’t give you another Sonic Riders, Unleashed, Secret Rings, or Black Knight lol.

  • Jack5221

Before everyone hates on Sega, take this with a grain of salt… This is NOT the 3rd Sonic game. It can’t be, 3 are supposed to be Wii U exclusive. Also, the poster from that Numreberg Toy fair only says New title TBA – To be announced. Not released. Again take all this info with a grain of salt.

  • Simon Stevens

They should just buy SEGA then nobody would get Sonic other than us.

    • Shota

owning atlus too in the process. i like that :)

      • The Clockwork Being

That would just be owning Sega. Sega doesn’t own Atlus, Sammy does. Sammy owns both Sega and Atlus.

        • Shota

oh yeah sega sammy. buy everything nintendo

          • LightupmyLife

By Nintendo buying everything up, that’s no different than those who claim that Sony and Microsoft buy exclusives. I don’t think buying everything is the way to go. I can agree with that they should look to buy companies that are willing to work with them in the long term. Perhaps someone like Platinum Games.

          • Shota

            platinum sega

          • LightupmyLife

I can see Platinum, but I don’t see Sammy selling Sega to Nintendo.

      • Simon Stevens

Why Nintendo didn’t buy Atlus is forever beyond me, would have been a real nice department to have considering they make great jrpg games.

        • Josiah Parsons

Sorry to be a killjoy, but in today’s video game climate, an FPS expert dev might be a better buy. I like jrpgs as much as the next guy, but I don’t think they would sell.

          • Simon Stevens

It’s not about selling, it’s about building an attractive library, if they were to buy a fps dev, something that may suit them very much would be the developers of bioshock or borderlands, I know there fps games but the art style, the storylines, the gameplay, it’s all so captivating, that would be my wish if they were to do that.

          • Josiah Parsons

Totally. An innovative FPS dev who would make original, creative (cough cough Activision cough cough), T-rated FPSes for Nintendo consoles might be just what Nintendo needs.

          • Simon Stevens

I would love Activision to be an exclusive partner, not so much for call of duty but everything else seems top dog, Nintendo just need to get real right now and fast, I’m not a hater, I love my wii u, but I can’t say it’s good value for money, put it against the ps4, in America it’s 100 dollars cheaper, which to me, still isn’t very good value in the long run considering the hardware specifications, the 3rd party support, the blu ray player, the media playback, pretty much everything is superior on ps4, Nintendo have great games but at that price point, it’s not going to save them, I hope Iwata stops being an idiot and makes some quick moves, he seems to be snapping up exclusive developers, just…… not very good ones

  • Ducked

Sonic Lost World sucked, Sega just can’t make good 3D Sonic games. They haven’t made one in years. Just make a 2 player 2D Sonic Game with a “good” co-op in it.

    • LightupmyLife

      That would be great.

    • http://its-yuma-tsukumo.tumblr.com/ Yuma Tsukumo

I quiet liked Sonic heroes for the game mechanics and Metal Sonic!! Though i do think the camera angles sucked a little, you see that quiet often in 3D sonic games.

      • Ducked

It was a good game, but I hated the camera angles as well. It didn’t make since why they didn’t put co-op in it since you have three characters at a time. The last boss was amazing, and I’d like to see a sequel.

  • GregoryTheRainMaker

It’s a multiplatform game, but in this case it’s very important that Nintendo has an anticipated game coming to the Wii U in 2015 as Iwata and Nintendo are limping along with the Wii U on third party support. The game will do well IF there aren’t big games that gamers are looking forward to more on all the consoles, because if there is a bigger game that people want to play… Sega will continue to get bad sales even with Sonic on the shelves. In the end…it’s true the ratings and reviews of the game will effect Sonic more…like in the case of Sonic: Lost World it wasn’t rated or reviewed favorable for gamers to care about it…everyone has to take that into account.

  • Mario

I doubt that this is the 3rd exclusive Sonic game that will appear on the WiiU.

    • Sonic the Hedgehog

Why not? My games might not appeal to the reviewers, but you know my games are more popular on your platforms!

      • Mario

        True.

        • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

What if Nintendo & Sega Make’s a Mario & Sonic Crossover Adventure Game huh?

          • Mario

That would be a dream come true.

          • Sonic the Hedgehog

Well, the developers planned that already, but they just can’t seem to connect our different worlds, you know?

          • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

maybe it can Sonic The Hedgehog

  • Logan Wayman

In the words of Jim Gaffigan to the guy who brought up this rumor: “That’s a bunch of bologna! You’re full of bologna!” SEGA said themselves that their Sonic games are meant for Nintendo audiences.

  • Rinslowe

A lot of people have been harping on about Nintendo going third party, licensing out their IP’s etc…
Well apart from that being a really bad idea for their most cherished brands, why don’t they try and acquire – SEGA – ATLUS – already? Then that would be a really good idea. They could own entire franchises that would be prime for multiplatform release, generating obviously “multiple” revenue streams. Without hurting their core business. In fact it would “multiply it” lol.
    You know games like SONIC….

    • LightupmyLife

I don’t think Sammy would sell Sega or Atlus. Lol. Especially since they just purchased their parent company. I believe they have other plans. I can see why people want this to happen because Sonic games sell better on Nintendo platforms, but nothing of the sort will happen anytime soon. In fairness, I prefer Sega to stay third party. Some games from Sega I would rather buy on other platforms. One main problem with the whole thing is, Wii U is still struggling to keep sales consistent. I think they should resolve that before even thinking about making purchases. Lol.

      • Rinslowe

Not to be argumentative, truly. I just think unless you know what those plans are specifically then anything can happen… Hell, anything can happen even when you think you know precisely the plan, lol. Companies acquire companies/ parent companies/ subsidiaries all the time for the purpose of making a profit in selling them on….
A company like Nintendo if they were serious about purchasing any other entity regardless of Wii U’s situation would be planning that in advance independent of any circumstances as you put it. But OK. Fair comment. At the end of the day neither of us could know for sure. It’s an idea. I put it out there. Simple enough. Although I also think it’s an unlikely event. It would be a good eventuality.

        • LightupmyLife

No arguments here, just discussions. I’d rather them stay third party. I think what would be nice is if they sold the Sonic IP to Nintendo. I can see that being the most realistic approach to all this. What you did say is possible of course. Not denying that, but I think Nintendo purchasing the Sonic franchise would be a nice prize. Imagine a Mario/Sonic crossover platform. I can see that happening.

    • http://its-yuma-tsukumo.tumblr.com/ Yuma Tsukumo

Third party, bad idea. If they were to work on a Fire Emblem game with Atlus, That would be very interesting, The closest we have to something like that is Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei which seems like an amazing idea.

      • Rinslowe

True. They could though, pick and choose which titles/ franchises to play the field with…

        • http://its-yuma-tsukumo.tumblr.com/ Yuma Tsukumo

Agreed. Seeing StarFox on Wii U would be very nice, Maybe Retro studio’s would be suited to developing that. StarFox x Metroid may sound strange but it makes a lot of sense since they’re based in space.

    • http://its-yuma-tsukumo.tumblr.com/ Yuma Tsukumo

On a slightly different topic.. If Capcom go bust, Nintendo should totally buy the Monster Hunter IP. I mean, look how well MH4 did in Japan. Now imagine what would happen if they released MH4 on the WII U.. I’m sure the sales would spike. To go a step further, they could also release a MH4 Wii U bundle.

  • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

I thought Nintendo had exclusive rights to Sonic?

    • Shota

well 3 part exlusive. sonic lost world, mario & sonic 2014 and a another one wich will come this year probably

      • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

Oh. That would be good for them to do that though.

  • LevenThumps

If SEGA is trying to get out of their contract with Nintendo, they may be trying to make the next Mario and Sonic at the Olympics their third exclusive game and porting this 2015 game to all systems. At least Sega isn’t abandoning the WiiU, but adding other consoles.

  • http://its-yuma-tsukumo.tumblr.com/ Yuma Tsukumo

My guess is that it’ll be like ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ that released back in 2006. An adventure game that introduces a new character.

  • Jonathan George Anaya

    Here’s my take Ashley :
Sega will release their last WiiU exclusive Sonic game in Holiday 2014. This mysterious game will be revealed at E3. Fans will cheer and be happy.

then at next years E3, Sega will announce the multiplatform Sonic Transformation 2! There has been a 2 yr break and it will be ready for a sequel at that time. Plus, Sega won’t have to worry about competing with Mario Kart in 2015.

  • RyuNoHadouken

    fail sauce

  • ETeach

Works for me. I have no problem with other people getting games, as long as we can get them too.

  • abe

It seems sonic games are made at the wrong time. People deemed the adventure series a betrayal but by the time it arrive on GameCube it was started to be referred to be good and now its legendary. Perhaps lost world and others will be be “great” by standards set by sonic in 2017

  • Karim Metwaly

I honestly think the 3rd exclusive sonic is in smash bros. Its not easy to bring him back and I guess Nintendo counts that as something?

  • Wiiluigi

I thought the 3rd title was lost world for 3DS? Even though it is the same title it’s not the same game as the wii u lost world. Is this not correct?

  • Arthur Jarret
