Mockup shows how DS games on Wii U GamePad might look

Nintendo recently announced that DS games were coming to the Wii U eShop. Which left many wondering: how are DS games gonna play on the Wii U and GamePad controller? A new video shows a mockup of just how that might look and work. And we have to say, it’s pretty darn good.

The GamePad is split into two screens, with the lower one functioning as the touchscreen. The video showcases several games, including Zelda; Cooking Mama, and more. The whole setup looks so good, we hope Nintendo uses it for the official DS games on Wii U. So far we’ve seen the two DS screens side by side in Nintendo’s own designs, but this looks a lot more intuitive.

Will you get any DS games on your Wii U? Let us know in the comments section!

UPDATE: As a few of our readers have already pointed out, this position of the GamePad is obviously better suited for games that rely heavily on the stylus instead of the D-pad and buttons.

  • Sdudyoy

I doubt it will be on the side like that, how would you control?

    • darkcreap

My thoughts exactly. in the DS you need to us the dpad and face buttons. I guess two configurations are possible:

      1) Both screens on the touchscreen.
      2) Top screen on the TV, bottoms screen on the gamepad.

I doubt about the second possibility, since there is a small problem: resolution. I don’t think DS games might look too well in a huge TV.

      • Arthur Jarret

That didn’t keep them from making a gameboy player on snes and gamecube, or from announcing GBA on Wii U. Not looking well is obviously no reason to keep them from it.

        • darkcreap

Yes, I had that device that played Gameboy games on the SNES, but the frame was small in comparison with the size of the TV. TVs are bigger nowadays and I guess resolution could be a problem. I see it to fit perfectly on the gamepad, since it is a way smaller screen.

          • Arthur Jarret

It would be nice if there were display option to go full screen or bordered… but they don’t offer it for NES games either and those have bad resolution as well.

There are even indies that use low res on purpose (the lone survivor, hotline miami, retro city rampage and thomas was alone spring to mind) – I don’t mind playing them on my screen though.

i don’t think size would matter that much anyway… I used to sit at 30cm distance off my old TV – and keep 3M from my normal 42″ one – 8M from my beamer screen. For most – the sitting distance increases with the screen size.

  • darkcreap

Obviously, they didn’t think about a small detail… how the hell are you gonna use the d-pad, face buttons and L+R buttons in that way? If DS games come to WiiU, they will be in a horizontal layout.

  • Marcel Kleine

Impossible, there’s no way you could use the buttons

    • Levi Johansen

I’m sure they’ll make it optional what way to play.
Maybe we can also choose to use the TV as the top screen.

I think this is a bad focus by Nintendo though, giving us N64 and GameCube games would be much better.

I’m gonna play DS games on my 3DS and so will most others.

  • The Clockwork Being

Looks good to be honest. Bit the biggest problem here is button placement! This only makes me think that Dual Screen is the way most of Nintendo handhelds after the 3DS are going to be or else we might lose a huge amount of the awesome library that was the DS

Unrelated to this news thought. Are we going to ignore the fact that since NOVEMBER RETRO STUDIOS HAS BEEN WORKING ON A NEW PROJECT!!!!!!

Obviously this arousing speculations of course and the most obvious guess is Metroid but I would love it to be Star Fox.

    • Fred

GameStop ran an article yesterday. Sounds to me like Retro all but confirmed the game they’re working on isn’t Metroid or dkc

      • darkcreap

I think they didn’t give any clue wether it was metroid or not.

        • Fred

Here’s the quote from the article:

“We love working with Donkey Kong. It’s a great character. It’s a lot of fun. We love working with Metroid Prime, with Mario Kart; those are fun, fun games to work on. So, you know, you can’t lose,” he said. “Every one of those IPs have been a lot of fun to play with and work on and [we'd] love to come back to them sometime.”

To me he says, “we’d love to come back to them sometime” or we’re not working on them now, but we love the idea of doing it again in the future

          • darkcreap

Umm, that might be reading too much into one quoute, but it makes sense.

          • Fred

You’re right, it might be, but it’s the only evidence I have and it I had to guess I’d say I think I’m probably right, but no I won’t guarantee it.

      • http://gentlerobot.com/ Gentle Robot

Thank god. Metroid Prime is not that good

      • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

Yeah, I didn’t think they would make another Donkey Kong game.

        • Fred

I actually wondered if they would. I mean they made 3 metroids I just assumed 3 DK would be next, but sounds like they’re off to something different. Star Fox? I can hope right?

          • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

No like they just came out with one.

      • lonewolf

It’s a original is made and developed by themselves.

    • Magnus Eriksson

Probably a Cranky Kong game. Year of Cranky Kong revealed.

      • SP-937-215

Naw man. Too predictable. It’s gotta be “Tingle Touched! U”

        • Daniel Gonzalez

          I can imagine it.

          • SP-937-215

No.You forget, the Wii U is capable of HD realism now.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

If only Nintendo games showed that. I don’t know who that is, but their creepy meter is over 9000. :P

          • Sdudyoy

Why would anyone go in public dressed like that creep? Tingle is one of the creepiest video game characters in my opinion.

          • SP-937-215

To sell his maps to children. Why else?

          • Rinslowe

            There is wrong…..
            And then there is that.

          • jjbredesen

100% off topic, but i am proud to announce that i have completly destroyed Nintenscience as a group. they are no longer able to troll, and thescienceethusiast1130 has been banned from Disqus, as he was the one who created all the problems. They will no longer create any problems for anyone ever again, and the upvote/downvote bot should be gone now to.

          • Rinslowe

            Nicely done! Phenomenal news!
Science had a limited shelf life from the outset. He just didn’t know it…
When you create so many enemies and try to subvert technologies in order to perpetuate anti like he did, I’m actually surprised he lasted so long…

            Congrats!

          • jjbredesen

Thanks :D I have made the other members understand what problems science created for them, so they “turned” on him, banning him from his own group, and rebranding themself as something else.

          • Nope.avi

It looks like a woman in that costume…

          • darkcreap

            Oh god…

          • Grayson Tech

Nope, remember Tingle is a pervert….

And he’s totally not obsessed with Link

          • Tornmage

AND I MOLEST OH NOT AGAIN

          • Tornmage

            lawl

        • The Clockwork Being

          Tingle touched ME O_O

          • ETeach

            Right in your heart ;)

            …and other places.

          • Diaz

Tingle Touch U. You don’t touch tingle, tingle touches you

          • The Clockwork Being

            *shivers*

        • 和夫

          Tingle Touched you? O.O

      • The Clockwork Being

I can already imagine it now. Cranky Kong Country: Wintery Burn

        • Gameonfool

          That will the DLC

        • Squid

Now cranky kong will go on a adventure to be Cranky King.

      • Grayson Tech

        Well

    • jjbredesen

Well, i donno how many times i have said this, but it is Metroid!!!

They where looking for a UI engineer back in December, to make a HUD etc. Now a lot of you said, all games have HUD’s and that is true, but in DK:TF it was a very basic one, the game with the most advance HUD that Nintendo makes is Metroid, it is way more advance than a banana and life counter.

They also wanted a AI guy, and that means that the enemies will be more advance and one of the games with the smarter enemies is Metroid, and then you have the fact that they talk about Wii U being a powerhouse and Metroid is the perfect game to show that, it is suposed to be realistic.

And then if i am not wrong VGX was in December, and under it Reggie had a Metroid pin on his shirt, meaning that Metroid could have been in development for a month.

We will see Metroid U in perhaps 2015/2016 no question about it.

      • Yousif Alromaithi

Sames Legit what you are saying I belive they are working on Action game could be Star Fox, F-Zero, or Metriod. E3 we will find I came my finger crossed if it is F-Zero.

        • jjbredesen

Yeah, its one of the more “mature” Nintendo games, no dought about it, not sure if Retro would be the ones to work on F-zero, but it is possible.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Doing Metriod is good for them because that is what they are famous for. It is their first games and setting them apart as the top dog in the video games industry. But F-Zero is where something they could do and probably bring it back working with Miyamotto is good for them because they had help from him on the first part. Miymatto is the only guy I can trust with Metriod Prime what he did for retro was good a feat not even Naughty Dog could accomplish. Aside from that I hope it is something Action Generic instead of platforming I mean they could do that. Bring Miymatto as a producer then the game would be awesome.

          • jjbredesen

Yeah, i am sure whatever they do it will be awesome, hoping for F-Zero to come back, after playing a lot of F-Zero GX for Gamecube, i think it is one of the best racing games i have ever played, the skill required to play the game is crazy, make one wrong turn and you done.

If you have ever beaten it, then you are a true master gamer. I think it is harder than Zelda II, it took me ages to complete it.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

I swear to god when I bought F-Zero GX I thought I was good and I would finish the game instantly it took me a week to win a first race, a bit over an year to finish the game. Nintendo really make hard games. F-Zero on Wii U will keep me busy for years it is more like Wipeout for Sony but a bit harder.

          • William Martinez

GX is a good game but the music is boring compared to f-zero x

          • jjbredesen

Yeah, after doing the samurai goroh mission a couple billion times, it the music gets really innoying :P

          • William Martinez

i never get tired of F-zero X metal music masterpiece but GX is techno and it doesn’t match with F-zero soul :P

          • jjbredesen

            Yeah, and its so repetetive!

But of all games, Zelda has the best music no contest. (In my opinion,)

          • MetroidZero

Did you get the AX cup with all the AX characters? That was the hardest thing I ever did in gaming. Period.

          • jjbredesen

No, i just no, i gave up on that a long time ago, perhaps il try again one day, but not now, just the thought of it makes me wanna cry :3

          • MetroidZero

Aw. Chapter 7, the Grand Prix race took me like 85 tries on Very Hard.

          • jjbredesen

O_O oh the memories, can still remember the first time i tried to bet Gouru on easy, took me atleast 20 tries lol.

          • MetroidZero

            Yes, I remember that! lol

          • jjbredesen

Dam the rocks!! Even when i was way infront of him he would just boost past me, me my gc is lucky it survived XD

        • Fred

We won’t find out this year.

        • Dallas Gooch

I think they said in an interview that it wasn’t gonna be Star Fox or F-Zero…though that would be amazing…

      • ICHI

I think it could be a first person star fox as much as it could be metroid? but maybe, just maybe someone has been working on retro’s rpg ip Raven Blade; which was canned after metroid prime got the green light? It looked like it had some good ideas, but was a little generic looking at the time, though very early in development when it was shown. It would be nice to see them go back to it and that could have a complex hud and AI to

        • jjbredesen

Thats true, i forgot about that, i am not sure, but perhaps it could be Miyamoto’s new IP???

      • Grayson Tech

        Metroid….Metroid….oh my god.

        • jjbredesen

If you can give me a good reason why Nintendo should not make a Metroid game now, then please do because i can’t think of a single one. I have never been so sure.

          • Grayson Tech

            I >3 Metroid
I never said I didn’t want it at all.

          • jjbredesen

I know lol, i meant that i am 100% sure that we will get Metroid :P

          • Grayson Tech

            If we do…

          • 和夫

You greater than 3 metroid? ;)

          • Grayson Tech

            Excatly.

          • Dallas Gooch

Any Nintendo ip other than Mario, DK, and Zelda would be a good idea. I love those three but right now i’m so sick of seeing them…maybe not Zelda cuz those are spread out a bit more but Mario and DK i’m really getting tired of. Metroid, F-zero, Star Fox, another Fire Emblem game but for Wii U, even some of the more obscure Nintendo classics would be awesome. Nintendo doesn’t need to be freaking Mario all the time…I mean how many Mario games are there on the Wii U already? I get it’s the flagship character but they’re going to wear out the appeal.

          • jjbredesen

Yeah, thats true Mario is sort of getting old, hoping that Miyamoto’s new IP will bring something fresh to the table.

          • Dallas Gooch

Anything that’s different is gonna be a breath of fresh air. I trust Miyamoto with the new ip.

          • Shigeru Miyamoto

            Well….

            Logic

    • abe

Seeing as we only get one mario kart game an gen and 8 is coming early, i reckon one of their projects down the line will be diddy kong racing 2

They helped out on Mario Kart 7 and obviously know their monkey men.

    • Yousif Alromaithi

I believe they working on an action game just wonder what it is on E3 we will hear more. As Reggie said no drought this year for Nintendo.

    • Matthew garcia

Looks very uncomfortable to play ds games that way. Also DK can be done on last gen consoles its just a sidescroller like rayman. Not like its huge 3d environments

    • Grayson Tech

      Ok

  • Re-Master

    So… They port a Dual-Screen game to a Dual-Screen console and use ONE screen…..

  • companyoflosers

we have to push buttons on the top? plus the trigger placement. idk if this were made a thing, i think they would have to release some bulky accessory to make it really work.

  • Steve

This should work for games that mostly utilize the touch screen. However, for games like Super Mario 64 DS, I’d rather what they do is use the television as the main screen (top screen) and the gamepad as the touch screen.

  • Joey

Nice but I prefer playing it on my 3DS XL anyways…

  • Fred

Isn’t it embarrassing for Nintendo they “are confident they have solved the technical problem” while some random guy has it up and working like a champ?

    • Wren Justin Umlauf

This isn’t a real video. Its a mock up to how it might work. If you look closely the hand gestures do not match up perfectly with the game.

      • Fred

Oh I didn’t notice. Thanks for the heads up

  • Johny

A for awesome EFFORD ! :D very nicely done video. hehe
well sure. thats cool for touch games, as they were showcased here.. but even with zelda… clicking that L/R button is kind of a pain i would assume. and what about games like Brain academy or Ninja gaiden dragon sword where you hold DS sideways to play? I was thinking that Nintendo could do a special customisable Virtual console menu for DS games. As the ds uses 2 screens in VARIOUS ways, one layout is obviously not good. They’ll probably do something like, so you can choose the layout of screens.. they can be both on the gamepad(while in natural position) but one on the left, and the other on the right side for most games.(we’re talking playing ONLY with gamepad of course). And then you could arrange and turn them any way possible..(for example like it was shown in this video).

Either way.. i CAN’T WAIT for the DS virtual console :D im sure nintendo will figure something out. In the worst case, the “special” games just won’t be available. Like Guitar Hero lol… stuff like that just isn’t possible obviously

  • Yen

All the games shown are games that focused on the touch screen controls and rarely used buttons. For these games I think the setup works better than having the touch screen in your hand and having to look up at the TV. I want to believe they thought this through and give a better setup for games that uses button input.

    • Magnus Eriksson

True, also it proves that Nintendo didnt have any plan when they made the Wii U pad. Its awkward look is actually a consequence of randomness. They just took an old mobile screen from early 2000, threw some buttons on it randomly and stamped it with Nintendo. Obviously they thought that we consumers was stupid to buy it – well, sadly I was. I tried to sell my Wii U from day one but no one wants to buy it.

      • Yen

No it proves that you didn’t have any plans when you bought a Wii U. I bought it because I see great things that can be done on the gamepad. It’s a shame that most third party developers don’t, but it doesn’t take a genius to make good use of the gamepad for a game. If you actually know anything about Nintendo, you’d know that the gamepad took months and years of planning, testing, and redesigns before it became how it is. They made probably dozens of prototypes for it. It is no more random than PS4 literally just slapping the best parts they can find together or XBox One slapping a blu-ray player, a Cable Box, and an upgraded 360 together. The buttons are setup similarly to the DS and 3DS, there’s nothing random about it. All you’re proving is that you are a consumer that was stupid enough to buy something without thinking it through first.

        • Capt. Smoker

The gamepad is a lazy innovation, it’s simply a tablet… and in comparison to most tablets, not a very good one, tablets were something that was done years a go, and the controls aren’t innovative at all, it’s really no different than making a handheld and giving it a bigger screen or giving a tablet the same layout, something Chinese companies JXD and Yinlips did years a go, even Archos got in on the action, unless a game similar to Rollercoaster Tycoon is released on the system, the gamepad isn’t useful at all outside of offtv play, and yes the ps4 and xb1 only got hardware upgrades but at least to the point were it’s futureproof and will see plenty of 3rd party action, I’d take that over a crappy tablet controller any day

          • Yen

Just because other companies have done it doesn’t mean it can’t be done with innovation. Also, the three examples you listed are not the same as the gamepad. The ones you listed are tablets built to play games. Some of which Android based. The gamepad is a controller for a dedicated gaming console. You are the uneducated one that can’t see the difference. You obviously don’t like the gamepad, so why spend all this effort with it? Why not go get one of those tablets you mentioned and play games on those if the gamepad sucks so much?

          • Capt. Smoker

I’m fully aware of the differences, anybody who ever tried to take it to the bathroom realized that as soon as it went off, for browsing it’s good but a simple bluetooth keyboard with mousepad could have done the same job, even Nintendo refer to the gamepad as a tablet controller, just because it’s tied to the Wii U’s os, doesn’t mean it isn’t one, I never once stated I liked tablets, or that I play shitty mobile games, my point is, the gamepad wasn’t good enough of an innovation by Nintendo’s usual high standards, and whichever way you want to go about it, people will always refer to it a tablet controller because that’s what it looks like, and I’m sure most people, if given a say would have taken superior hardware and a pro controller over it, or the same hardware and a lower pricetag.

          • Yen

Um, okay you’re clearly offended, but let me be clear. The Wii U gamepad IS a tablet controller. The difference I was talking about was that those tablets you mentioned are more handheld consoles instead of just the controller. For example, I wouldn’t call the Vita a tablet controller. I never said it wasn’t a tablet controller.

          • Capt. Smoker

Sound argument, I agree, my main problem was it can only stretch so far before the signal cuts out completely, that’s what makes it crappy, I felt that was were they messed it up completely, it’s only innovative to my life if I can play Dr Luigi on the toilet and in bed lol

          • Yen

            Haha all I can say is, mine does reach from my toilet. Even my bed in my room. Even though that’s probably everyone’s thought when Nintendo announced the gamepad, I doubt it was their goal to let everyone play their games while taking a poop. ^^;

          • Capt. Smoker

I was gutted, I found the BEST anime streaming site, almost flawless on the Wii U and sometimes it’ll be ideal just to take the gamepad up there and poop whilst watching One Piece, be nice to go to bed with it too, would appreciate improved range from Nintendo in an update, then… I might fully appreciate it :) that and maybe gamepad play for Wii mode, can’t see myself balancing the gamepad and the remote and nunchuck at the same time lol

      • nexxus6

Come on Magnus, we discussed this a couple weeks ago. If you are so eager to get rid of your WiiU, donate it to a children’s hospital or senior center. You are a resourceful person, so you should have no problems parting ways with your WiiU. If the WiiU is such an eye sore in your residence, there is always a trash receptacle willing to accept it.

  • Daniel Gonzalez

    Looks even better on android.

    • Yen

      Go play flappy bird then.

      • Magnus Eriksson

From that comment I can read Flappy was too difficult for you :)

        • Yen

          Then you clearly can’t read.

          • Capt. Smoker

Clearly your uneducated, do sone research then make an argument

          • Yen

All I said was “Go play flappy bird then.”, what kind of argument can that possible have?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Clearly someone is upset.

          • Yen

Yea kinda, I was called uneducated by someone that spell “you’re” as “your” consistently. But jokes aside, apparently my flappy bird comment was upsetting enough to have multiple people defend you. So I’m sorry, don’t play flappy bird.

          • Capt. Smoker

You must have got your ass beat in highschool if you really feel the need to correct people’s spelling, that’s truly a sad sight.

          • Yen

What’s sad is people that judge other people’s social worth based on if they got their ass beat in highschool or not. I admit it was a low blow, but you did it twice while calling me uneducated when you know nothing of my education level. So I’d say that makes us even.

          • Capt. Smoker

You know what, your right, and I feel I’ve misjudged you, I apologize

          • Yen

I appreciate you being mature about this. I think I’ve misjudged you as well and also owe you an apology.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Now that’s the spirit. Glad we don’t have to settle our differences in a good ol’ fashion brawl fest.

            http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ls43o7ujCb1r1mzdxo1_500.gif

          • Yen

To be fair, that works pretty well between college roommates.

          • Magnus Eriksson

I was defending Flappy, not Daniel. He is a big guy and knows how to defend himself :D

          • Yen

I sure don’t doubt that. I apologize for insulting Flappy. I also tried it and got 5 points. Can’t say I want to play too much more of it.

      • Capt. Smoker

The DrasticDS emulator has nothing to do with android games, it just runs on the android platform flawlessly, if your so clueless don’t comment, obviously your blindly defending the Wii U, not the Drastic devs fault they got it on android before Nintendo did on the Wii U, Nintendo shouldn’t be so slow about everything.

        • Yen

Wow how the hell did you get all that from “Go play flappy bird then.”? First of all, I don’t know much about the DrasticDS emulator because I don’t need one, I have a DS, and a 3DS XL. Why would I waste my time with an emulator when I have the actual consoles? Sorry for being uninformed about a “product” that I don’t need. That comment didn’t even defend the Wii U in anyway. The emulator itself isn’t even flawless. As far as I’ve heard there are occasional bugs when the games don’t work and such. If you’re going to call it flawless I’d expect that it works with all DS games with nearly no game breaking bugs. You’re right it’s not the Drastic dev’s fault they got it on Android before Nintendo did, did I ever say it was? You also need to realize that an Android device and Wii U are two different things and we don’t know how much resources was put into each.

          • Capt. Smoker

You replied to Daniel’s picture didn’t you?, his picture was of the drastic emulator, yet it came across that you thought it was a shitty mobile game similar to Flappy, if you can even call that tripe a game lol, and in my experience at least, I’ve never had a problem with any game, not one single flaw, could be different for those emulating on different weaker hardware though, and a lot of people would like it on their android device, It’s nice to have an all in 1 classic emulation device.

          • Yen

Uh the game is clearly Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver. Trust me I wouldn’t get that confused with a crappy mobile game. By definition Flappy Bird is a game, but I agree it probably shouldn’t be consider one. So fine, the emulator works fine. I’d still prefer to play the DS games on my DS/3DS. I don’t even completely agree with a DS emulator on the Wii U the way they’re doing it. If at all, I think a DS player, like the Gameboy Player would work better. But that’s a different argument. My comment was meant more as, it’s on an android device, what else is on an android device? Flappy Bird, enjoy games like Flappy Bird on your Android devices then. I like Android devices, but I think Nintendo games should stay on Nintendo systems as long as Nintendo is making them. I meant it more to be anti emulator than anything else.

          • Capt. Smoker

I agree Nintendo should stay Nintendo, I see no harm in emulating old games if it’s possible, and I agree about the DS player, I’d also love to see a 3DS adapter for the Wii U, that would help the system out considering the 3DS library of games and prove the gamepads worth.

    • Magnus Eriksson

      It actually does.

    • Capt. Smoker

I love the DrasticDS emulator, I overclocked my Xperia play so ds, psp etc all work wonders on it, must be embarrassing for Nintendo that Ouya got some ds big screen action before Wii U did….. goes to show how slow paced they’ve been with everything, then… consider Dolphin on the pc, emulates Wii games and renders them in HD, Wii U only upscales Wii games, it’s embarrassing that their engineers are upstaged so easily.

    • Josie the Sketcher

Looks awesome but only thing is that I don’t like using touch screen buttons. They do not respond that well, especially with rpg games.

  • Sydney Ultrasyd

You can’t use the buttons like that … :/

  • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

hmm DS games on my WiiU, Nintendo tell me one thing: Why would I buy DS games to play on my WiiU while all DS games I want, I have allready and I’ll play those on my Zelda golden 3DS, so why would I buy them again to play on my WiiU…?

    • Magnus Eriksson

Agree, that decision is kind of confusing. Also DS had quite an installbase, so I guess many more than you feel the same. They should have made GCN games compatible instead. That would have made sense, and is what everyone wants. I never ever heard anyone asking for DS.

      • Yousif Alromaithi

I did, many wanted a DS games on Wii U. I heard many people on Wii U daily said that. http://www.change.org/petitions/nintendo-of-america-we-want-the-wii-u-to-be-able-to-play-nintendo-ds-3ds-games

        • Daniel Gonzalez

          That petition shows very few.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

At Least it was someone. https://www.change.org/petitions/nintendo-co-ltd-create-a-peripheral-that-plays-nintendo-ds-and-3ds-games-on-the-wii-u#share Another petition. It means Nintendo is listening to fans don’t they.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

If they listened to fans, we’d have Gamecube games on eShop instead of DS.That’s also a small amount of people as well. So far, you’ve only showed a tiny fraction of the Nintendo fanbase. Wii U Daily is part of that too. If you wanted them, that’s cool, but I rarely ever hear anyone wanting them, considering most already have a DS and games. They make more sense on the 3DS than Wii U as the that’s the screen resolution they were meant for.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

The Gamecube games will come and so is the 64 .It took Sony time to bring PS2 games on PS3.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

We’ve been hearing that for over a year. Lol. Yet, DS games are coming instead. I’ll see it when I believe it at this point. They should have come instead of DS.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Man I am sorry you are waiting you can’t have what you want.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I’m not waiting at all. I have no real intention of buying any games from the eShop unless they’re new. Though, for those Nintendo fans who do, I feel bad they have to wait this long. Gamecube games on Wii U makes more sense vs DS games. Nintendo is a bit backwards on that one. They should have made a 3DS/DS player for the Wii U. If you remember the Gameboy player for Gamecube, you’ll know what I mean.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Gameboy play for GameCube yeah I remember that but the new Gameboy at that time was Gameboy Advance. Doing 3DS will let them lose business on 3DS it is like saying Sony Make PS Vita Games on PS4 because PSP looks more sense. I have not attention to wait for gamecube because I have no desire to play old games except new. Donkey Kong is keeping me busy.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

In my opinion, it makes more sense to keep portable games on portable systems. Console on console. PSP and Vita in this case are a different story since those games require using a Vita or PSP to play them. So I see no problem with that.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

It is similar bro don’t be blind. One thing Nintendo need now is the unification for the account then we settled.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

That doesn’t make me blind bro. Lol. That makes our opinions different. PSP and Vita games aren’t played on the TV screen so they aren’t similar at all. We aren’t going to agree on this, it’s simple as that.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Look you many not see that it is the seem but I tried talking some sense to you. Ever heard of agree to disagree because you and me are one of those people.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Lol. How are you trying to talk sense into a person if it’s just your opinion? Opinions aren’t about facts, they’re about belief. Not sure what school you went to bro. Indeed, we do agree to disagree, but you make no sense by claiming to talk sense into something that is only your belief. ;P

          • Yousif Alromaithi

I am sorry if you are upset bro but some things have been said whether you like it or not I said it.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Not upset at all. Pointing out the error in your argument. If you think opinions and facts are one in the same, then you may wanna learn the differences. Whether you said it or not, makes no difference. :P

          • Yousif Alromaithi

People argue when different opinion occurs like at the USA politics for example. You have put a good question mark last week.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Arguments occur everywhere no matter what country. So don’t know what your point was there.

          • Capt. Smoker

I argued today with a guy in subway, he said he didn’t spit in my sandwich, I was sure he did, since he’s dating my ex lol arguments… happens everyday for someone out there lol

          • Capt. Smoker

Fact is, Wii U has failed thus far, Nintendo continue to fail it by their half assery, Stating Wii U has failed up till now is fact, Nintendo half assing is opinion, people can’t see the difference lol

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Okay it failed back to dinner.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Yep, it’s certainly looking that way right now.

          • Capt. Smoker

I know you’ll blindly defend Nintendo to the death, but Daniel only expects better support in the VC department and faster pacing, it’s hardly a criticism, more like willing them to perform at greater heights :)

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Exactly. No company gets better without some form of criticism. It’s funny to see how blind people are to the definition of opinions and facts.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Do you see me dying bro no I am not.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

What does death have to do with having a discussion? ;P

          • Yousif Alromaithi

He told me I am defending it to the death by the way I am eating with my girl friend so he is not the one will kill me at night but she is lol.

          • Capt. Smoker

Seems your set against everybodys opinions other than your own, no point trying to have a discussion with you.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Get that feeling too. Though I at least try to give people a chance, but I don’t think he’ll get it.

          • Capt. Smoker

Same here, I’m at least willing to hear peoples opinions out as well as agree with people more times than most, but going against the facts, can’t agree with that when the facts are staring you point blank in the face lol

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Agreed. That and trying to force your opinion on another and trying to pass it off as fact, is nonsensical at best. Don’t know where he learned that from.

          • Capt. Smoker

It’s like they’ve never heard of Google lol

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Indeed. Google is everyone’s friend. It’s a great tool for learning.

          • Capt. Smoker

Let us not forget the Vita tv :) playing Ys oath in Felghana on the big screen has transitioned really well to the big screen, somehow, I have no faith in Nintendo following Sony’s methods for successfully doing so, expect DS games to look terrible.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Same. Especially if they keep the games at their original state, I expect screen tearing.

          • Magnus Eriksson

I hope you are right, but I feel you are wrong…

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Same. If there were going to be Gamecube games as Nintendo mentioned over a year ago, then we would have them by now instead of DS games. Very few asked for them.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Man I love you magnus because you remind of a brother dear to me but man you need to cool down a bit bro.

          • Dáibhí wotshissurname

Was what he said particularly angry?

          • Magnus Eriksson

I dont think he meant now but in general. :)

          • Yousif Alromaithi

I don’t care if he is angry just let him have fun.

    • Dáibhí wotshissurname

Because they might be cheap to get on WiiU, maybe at £4.49? I also think that lots of DS games could benefit from Miiverse.

  • YayGs

A lot of people are pointing out the button placement and obviously Nintendo is aware you’d have to be very narrow minded not to think of that. But keep in mind that you are looking at an unfinished product. In the video they probably decided to show games that focus on touch screen controls because this layout works for those games and they are still juggling around different ideas for other games.

What’s important to take away from this is that it works and it seems to work very well. Remember, Nintendo said the operating systems for future consoles will no longer be entirely different, this makes me think that backwards compatibility with software will be very strong, so for each Virtual Console they bring in for Wii U, they shouldn’t have to build it from the ground up when they release a new console.

    • Magnus Eriksson

      Its a mock up

  • Saikyo

I always just imagined top screen->TV / bottom screen -> game pad.

  • Arthur Jarret

I got about 180 DS games – why wait for years and spend way too much to get the same library on a system not suited for it?

  • WiiUPS4

That would not work for me…Id rather play on the tv

  • Fred

Why are they not just doing Gamepad-touchscreen TV top screen?

  • Carlos Webster

Wow, I couldn’t have come up with this prediction in a million years!

  • Potemkin

    F*ck no!!!!

  • Ferd726

So how I going to play if I cannot use any botton in case I need to use the d pad also it is posible play games in the screen of my tv using the gamepad as remote that could awesome hope the ds game are minimu cheap if not I want price drop of any classic nes and snes if they want to put any ds games like $7.99

  • Sonic 2099 The Hedgehog

Nope this isn’t the way they making it

  • Shota

nintendo make more than that. make animation app for wii u or games that uses the gamepad fully. we need to show what second screen can bring us. we need more games that uses the gamepad

    • Capt. Smoker

Geez don’t say that lol it’s annoying as hell when they integrate those gimmicks into games.

      • Shota

hhmmm okay, but i want a animation app lol

  • starwars360

MARIO KART 8 JUST COMING REAL SOONER AND IT IS JUST LITTLE BIT OVER 2 MONTHS TO GO!!! YAY!!!!

Mario Kart 8 is my main game of 2014. Thank you for read.

Plus this DS games on GamePad look alright and at least we getting DS games on Wii U. I am sure you can play DS games on TV too. It is just article explain and show how GamePad work for DS games. :)

    • Shota

mario kart 8…. i’m gonna buy it in the morning and play it till midnight. btw what is your nintendo network id so we can play it together online. my nnid is: shonenjump

      • Capt. Smoker

Love your id name, :p sounds oddly familiar

        • Shota

          lol yes fullmetal87 XD

          • Capt. Smoker

I really wish I’d left out the 87 :p people ask me if I’m an android because of it and not the awesome anime :(

          • Shota

when i think about fullmetal. then fullmetal alchemist and panic comes in my mind XD

      • starwars360

Hehehe yes ok. :):) Mario Kart 8 is going epic. :)

    • Fred

Not me, if 8 is like Wii and 7 then I’ll keep on playing Sonic Racing. If 8 is more like Double Dash and 64 then I’ll jump on.
My game of 2014 will be X!!!
I love Xenoblade and X looks amazing!

  • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

    Screen images simulated.

  • Cahone2

why the hell would anyone play them on a gamepad??!?!?!?!?!?!!??!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Moreck

This looks cool, but what about an option to display the DS’ top screen on the TV & the bottom screen on the GamePad? (Landscape orientation.) Granted, this would only work with certain games, but it would be great for ones that use the touch screen exclusively for maps/ inventory/ etc.

  • Skelterz
  • Screamin Mime

    YES!

  • Assassinated23

It would only work like this with games that use stylus control exclusively. This would not work with any game that required d-pad control or button usage.
Why would they not just use the gamepad as bottom screen and TV as the top screen? That clearly makes the most sense.

    • figs28

Off-TV gaming, that’s all Nintendo would want to push with this. But there will probably an option for TV when you don’t want to play off-TV. If not, well, another failure.

  • SP-937-215

    Oh hell no

  • Nicolas Eddowes

I rather use both TV and gamepad to use the main screen on TV, and touch screen on the gamepad. I think it’s the best solution for buttons use.

  • John

I would have thought as the DS has 2 screens, then surely DS games on WiiU would make use of both the TV and Gamepad, thus retaining the 2 screen experience?

  • RyuNoHadouken

well, obviously, they would be in landscape and not portrait mode….smh

  • Extra Vinegary

This is cool for off-screen mode, but I would also want my TV to act as the top screen and the gamepad to act as the lower touch screen of the DS.

  • Virus6

A lot of DS games use both screens and the face buttons. Rotating the gamepad sideways in order to see both screens would eliminate the usage of nearly every one of the games that use the buttons.

  • Kaleb

    No news in two days?

  • Grayson Tech

    This game pls….

  • I am Error.

This would make a lot more sense on the 3DS… though if Nintendo wants to jump on N64 and Gamecube titles INSTEAD, that’d be cool.

  • FIreproof_actual

Yes…that wouldn’t be awkward to hold or play at all….

  • great deku tree

to be honest I’d rather have gamecube or N64 games anyday. it looks too awkward playing ds games like this (why don’t they simply have the gamepad as bottom screen and tv as top screen?).

  • AkaLink77

    Sorry Nintendo…
    No online; no buy.
(Because im pretty sure DS games will come to WiiU AFTER the WIFI SHUTDOWN for Wii/DS.)

  • Jonathan Dogey

I thought the ds bottom screen would be the game pad and the tv would be the top screen
