Please note that the above image is fake. But should it have to be? Today we’ll be talking about the Kingdom Hearts series history with Nintendo, and whether or not I think it will come to Wii U! Big thanks to our user “Ducked” for this topic suggestion!
A brief history lesson
For those of you who don’t know, Kingdom Hearts is Square Enix and Disney’s critically acclaimed attempt to combine the worlds of Final Fantasy and Disney characters. Originally debuting on the Playstation 2 in 2002, players followed “Sora”, a young keyblade master on a journey to find his friends. Along the way, he ends up meeting Goofy and Donald, who are looking for Sora as directed by King Mickey. Alright, that’s pretty much all I know for certain. What happens next gets pretty complicated, and I don’t even fully understand it all. Let’s just skip ahead to the console history.
Alright, so it started out on PS2, and then made its way to the Game Boy Advance. Then it went back to the PS2 for Kingdom Hearts 2, and then we got one for the DS, then one for the PSP, then one more for the 3DS. Surprisingly, None of these games have been crowned the official “Kingdom Hearts III“. They’ve all been prequels and prequels to prequels and so on. It gets confusing quickly.
Finally, at last year’s E3, the long awaited Kingdom Hearts III was announced. Not for Wii U though, for the PS4. “Alright.” I said to myself. “That’s fair, Kingdom Hearts has always been on Playstation when it comes to home consoles.” I figured it wouldn’t go multiplatform, and that would be that. Boy was I wrong.
HERE COMES MICROSOFT WAVING ITS BIG GREASY C-
*technical difficulties, please stand by*
Ahem! Anyways, the next day, you’ll never guess what Microsoft announced was coming to the Xbox One. Yup. Good Ol’ Call of Doggy: Modern Woof Fare. Nah, I’m kidding. It was flippin’ Kingdom Hearts III. (I mean, come on. They had already milked the heck out of CoD at this point.) But seriously, think about this for a minute. Kingdom Hearts, a franchise with absolutely no history on the Xbox family of consoles just decides to up and run to the green giant.
I bet no money was involved in that decision.
And that leaves us where we are today. Happy that the game is coming, and a bit confused that there is no Wii U version yet announced.
What does it mean?
Well, it could mean a lot of things. Apparently, some people think that because the Wii U can’t use DirectX 11. This is kinda true, kinda not. As explained here, neither the Wii U or the PS4 support DirectX 11 itself, as Microsoft owns that technology. However, they both have their own solutions that let them use features very similar to those offered by DirectX 11. Now if just Microsoft and Sony owned the rights to this technology, I’d say “Oh sure, it’s not coming to the Wii U because of DirectX 11. That’s understandable”. But that’s not the case.
There’s something the Square Enix developers aren’t telling us. My guess is that they don’t want to call out Nintendo’s sales publicly, as this would ruin their otherwise good relationship. I mean, even if they don’t want to develop KH3 for the Wii U, who’s to say they’re not looking at the 3DS for the next Kingdom Hearts prequel to the sequel of the prequel?
In my honest opinion, I still think the game could show up on Wii U. I get the feeling there’s a lot of talking going on between these two companies, and some deals are getting made. I could be entirely wrong, but I’m allowed to dream, no? Dream about Square dropping the dough to go the distance with Nintendo? Alliteration and puns! I’m on fire!

Game: Super Mario 3D World
Whenever I type the title of that game, I always want to type “New” in front of it. I guess we’re finally done with the “New Super Mario Bros.” series? I honestly thought it was a bit overused when they made the Wii game… Anyhow! This is me. In a normal tanooki suit. Not cheating to get through a level. That’s not me at all… Ever… OKAY MAN IT WAS HARD! THERE WERE PLATFORMS AND GIANT SKATES AND… and… Okay I cheated.

Game: Skylanders: SWAP Force (Again)
Apparently a lot of the abilities in this game are named after clever references. I like that! But yeah, I just got this guy recently, and even though he has a jack-o-lantern head in real life, he appears normal in game. Oh well! He was cheaper than the regular one anyhow, so I figured I’d just take the plunge. I’m glad I did, he’s awesome, and I always like having more giants.

Game: Scribblenauts Unlimited
Just got Scribblenauts for me and the girlfriend to play, as we noticed it was only 20 dollars on the eshop. At 60 dollars, this game seemed like it wouldn’t be worth it. For 20, it seemed like a fun little game. I’ve played Scribblenauts before, and this one is a very good improvement over the original. I couldn’t see myself paying 60 dollars for it, but 20 seems like a fair price. I say go and get it if you’re looking for something to pass time.
Good news everyone! You don’t have to read my words anymore! It’s time to type your own!
