Target offering $5 gift card with Wii U pre-orders

target-pre-order-cards

If you’re into pre-ordering games, Target has an offer available for select Wii U games. If you want to pre-order Super Smash Bros. or Mario Kart 8, you can do so for a $1 at Target and receive a $5 gift card for pre-ordering. It’s not much, but it’s a good way to get a reservation for the game in early while also saving some cash.

This deal likely applies to pre-orders for other consoles as well, so if there’s a game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One that you want to pre-order, head to your local Target to see if they offer a pre-order card with a similar discount available.

I did this for Lego City Undercover and it’s sort of deceiving. You’re really only getting a $4 gift card because the $1 you use to reserve DOES NOT go toward the final purchase price.

True, they’ve done this with other games in the past. Notably Pokemon X/Y. However, in that offering the card also came with a collectible pin with the reservation card.

An ok deal. Any discount is better than none. However, the 20% off bestbuy cards is still the best. I know some people do not like digital copies, but I’ll be buying MK8 and SSB4 via digital download. If it were not for a SCRATCHED DISC…I’d be play MK Wii right now. So, you get your physical copy for $56 + tax + gas to drive to the store…and I’ll download my $48 copy.

I already have gotten my Smash Bros 4 and Mario Kart 8 cards!

humph… Anything to help the damned thing sell.

Don’t buy games from Target! I had an awful experience when I tried to buy the Pikachu 3DS at launch. I went when the store open, but they wouldn’t give it to me because they weren’t selling them until Tuesday (2 days later than Nintendo’s official release date)

I tried looking elsewhere but by then it was too late because they were sold out everywhere :( I also found out they sold them later that day to other people. I will never forgive Target for this.

This is a good deal if you buy the rest of it on your target red card which gives you an additional 5% off.

I will definitely purchase Mario Kart 8! Its control mechanics remind me of Mario Kart: Double Dash, as well as it’s mind twisting environments. That’s why I’m purchasing it. Heck, this could be better than Mario Kart Wii.
    Top Mario Kart Games:
    1.Mario Kart: Double Dash!
    2.Mario Kart 8
    3.Mario Kart 64
    4.Mario Kart 7
    5.Mario Kart Arcade GP
    6.Mario Kart: Super Circuit
    7.Super Mario Kart
    8.Mario Kart Wii

      no ds?

HAve you played this? I would also say Double Dash and 64 are the best ones so if 8 is like those maybe I”m in (I thought it looked more like Wii HD so I wasn’t excited for it at all.)

Like Evan said, slightly deceiving. The $1 only guarantees you a copy. With the $5 gift card you do still come out $4 ahead, and with the Red Card, ,you’ll save another $3. To my knowledge this is the best preorder deal to be had.

My Target didnt even hold the game I “pre-ordered” at the counter like the card says they will. They just grabbed one off the shelf, luckily they had some I guess. Not sure I trust them to pre-order again.

  • Russel Bowersox

That is pretty tempting, but no way in hell am I reserving smash or kart at a place that I can’t buy it at mid-night.

  • Ryan F

If you haven’t pre-ordered Smash Bros and Mario Kart, what’s wrong with you? (Being poor is the only acceptable excuse)

Target has been one of the stronger Wii U supporters. Since the systems launch I have taken advantage of three buy 2 get 1 free Wii U game deals.

5 dollars wouldn’t even be enough to cover the sales tax on a 59.99 title. Best to order online via Amazon or something… free shipping, no tax… but a nice effort, Target.
