Watch Dogs coming May 27th for other consoles, Wii U still delayed

A new leaked trailer has revealed that Watch Dogs will be released on May 27th for Xbox 360, Xbox one, PS3, PS4, and PC. It was announced earlier this year that the Wii U version of the game has been delayed and as such, there’s no release date for Wii U set. Still, we know that the game will be coming some time after May 27th.

Geoffroy Sardin, the senior vice president of sales and marketing made the following statement”

“We are pleased to be able to reveal to gamers all over the world the new release date for Watch Dogs. We are extremely confident that the additional time we afforded the dev team to refine and polish the game will be more than worth the wait.”

Despite the early release of this trailer, Ubisoft said it has something to reveal at 12pm EST, so perhaps we’ll see something relating to a new Assassin’s Creed game as well.

Kinda odd and worrying that there’s no Wii U release date at all.. Makes it seem like an afterthought… Sucks, because I’m really looking forward to this game on the Wii U

    • e_rocket

me to… hope they announce the Wii U release soon!!!!!

    • gtosheex

kinda makes me think they should have just released the wii U version earlier – more people might buy it and it could give people something to play leading up to Mario Kart – i know it’s not very realistic but would have been neat

    • abe

I think that recent trademark issue came from them canceling the Wii U version but heard fans pleases after the rumours got around and brought it back hense the delay.

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

        hrm… source?

  • Elias Ruelas

I’m okay with that. I’m going to be playing a lot of MK8. So I rather not have to ignore this game entirely because of my time with MK8. =)

    • Michael DeVore

Hopefully that’s their logic behind the delay.

      • Elias Ruelas

Whatever the reason, I know I will be more invested in MK8. As long as Watch Dogs comes, I don’t care if its a few weeks or months.

  • gtosheex

Guess it’s a good thing Wii U is delayed since I’d only play it for 3 days until Mario Kart comes out…

    • matthew garcia

To me mario kart is fun but can’t keep my interest to long. Racing and shooting shells gets old after a while. Now X is what I want. Watchdogs I will get on ps4

      • gtosheex

it doesnt get old when you have friends! (not saying you dont =P)

        • matthew garcia

It is more of a friends game but I work full time and only have friends at my house once or twice a week. The little time I do play I rather play good single player games like possibly X and watchdogs

          • gtosheex

i hear ya – X is going to be amazing

          • matthew garcia

            Fa sho

      • James Lockwood

Mario Kart running 22 years strong. Shooting shells and racing is what happiness comes from

        • matthew garcia

Lol that game does make me happy cuz I play it with my little sister but I’m more of a gran turismo forza kinda guy. Still want that X though lol

  • Wooopigsooie

Ha! Ubisoft is afraid of releasing the Wii U version the same time at Mario Kart! Chickens…

    • matthew garcia

Doesn’t make sense there still releasing on other consoles which is the real competition. Games like watchdogs don’t have much of a place on wii u fanbase. Watchdogs will sell much better on other consoles

      • JB

Which is why it wouldn’t make sense to release it on Wii U around Mario Kart time, as it would cannibalize Watch Dogs sales… As for me, I definately world have gotten both.

        • matthew garcia

It only Cannibalizes is it on wii u. Still gonna sell well on other consoles. I’m sure that’s all ubisoft cares about. Ubisoft games in general have not sold well on wii u. Ps3 ray man passed wii u sales. Mario kart has nothing to do with it.

          • jrob23

Rayman on PS3 barely passed Wii U and when you factor in install base it’s not even close. Nice try

          • matthew garcia

Well considering it was meant to be wii u exclusive at first I would imagine ubisoft saw poor wii u sales and made the smart business decision and made it available for ps3. Good move for ubisoft

          • jrob23

stupid move. Could have come out when Wii U owners were starving for games last Spring..or when GTA5 comes out and it gets lost in the shuffle. Smart move would have been to come out on other systems delayed. But they only pay lip service to Nintendo so no loss. If not for pissing Wii U owners off they’d probably have more sales than PS3

          • matthew garcia

Dude its just games lol no need to get pissed. Sounds like business to me and nintendo is just not good at it. Ubisoft is not pissing u off its nintendo business practices failing to give wii u the install base it deserves

          • jrob23

I know, Nintendo is so bad at business it dominates the handheld for forever, and ‘won’ the last gen. They have billions in the bank. Meanwhile, Sony is closing stores, selling off divisions, and the Xbox came in last last gen and is last this gen.

          • matthew garcia

Why are u still pissed man. 3ds is another ball game and will always do good cuz of little kids and pokemon. Sony and Microsoft are kings of bad business but strictly on the console division alone ps4 is selling like hot cakes right now. Obviously Sony did a whole lot better job at hyping there console then nintendo. People still think that wii u game pad is just a add on to the original wii. W naming it wii u was a bad idea also. They should have named it super nintendo 2 lol. Would have sold a lot more. Nintendo fault

          • jrob23

not pissed, just wondering how anyone can say that Nintendo is bad at business when their handhelds dominate and the Wii won last gen console war. That’s all. PS4 is most likely going to dominate. But it too will struggle if they aren’t able to provide more than a minor graphical difference over the PS3. Still waiting to buy one when I feel there is a good amount of games for it. I will NOT get an Xbone until a massive price decrease and compelling bundle. There just is next to zero reason to make the jump right now and sales are proving it.

          • matthew garcia

I understand your thought. I got a ps4 already but there isn’t to much to play but with the great sales I know there will be games but I never said nintendo was bad at business as a whole cuz they have done some genius stuff throughout there history. Just with wii u I feel the u could have done certain things differently. Iwata is a good man for taking the pay cut he gave himself for his failures. Not to many people like that.

          • Stephen Macneil

You’re right, this game is doomed to sell poorly on Wii U now. Most gamers have a Wii U alongside older consoles like ps3/360 or just got a ps4/Xbox one. Anyone interested in this game is probably not willing to wait now. I’ll probably get it for ps4. I think Mario Kart isn’t really the reason at all. Either way it’s a bad decision and Ubisoft might see low sales as an indication that the Wii U isn’t worth developing for, even though they’re setting it up for failure. Bummer…

          • matthew garcia

Yeah sadly that’s the business side of it.

          • abe

I’ll be waiting for the U version despite having a shiny box as well. I beg multi console Wii u owners yo wait for it. Even if its gimped in some way. This is the last of the announced ubisoft games one of the last third parties Nintendo has. We have to show them there IS an audience on Wii U. This ignoring ports that aren’t as good is actually killing us. As publishers think there is no audience. If its gimped buy it for less by all means but Devs and Pubs need to hear us

          • Stephen Macneil

Right, but the publishers are asking us to pay the same amount of money for a worse experience. I bought Origins on Wii U because I wanted to support Wii U, and I liked off tv play and using the gamepad as a map. What did I get in return? Low frame rates and I miss out on the dlc. Developers are not giving us our money’s worth yet blaming low sales for not supporting Wii U.

I’ll make this deal with you. I’ll at least wait until the Wii U version is out before I choose what console to get it on. I’m hoping Ubisoft is taking the time to understand and get the most out of the Wii U hardware. If the PS4 version is 60fps at 1080p, and the Wii u runs under 30 at 720p it’s going to an easy decision to the ps4. If it runs relatively close to ps4, and better than the ps3/360 versions I’ll get it on Wii U. I’m definitely not going to shell out $60 for a crappy versions just to help convince third parties to make games on the Wii U. It’s their job to convince me to buy it. The only real thing that will convince third parties to make games on the Wii U is console sales.

          • abe

I agree and I waited to pick up sniper elite, black ops, splinter cell so I could buy them new at a price I thought was right for what they cut out

          • Ace J

i got a ps4 but i’m most definitely getting this game on the wii u.

          • bizzy gie

I recommend you get this game on PS4. You’ll get better graphics, better sound, exclusive hour of content, and a richer online all for the same $60.

          • Ace J

OR (and this is just a thought) or i can just get the wii u version to support 3rd party development on the wii u. which it desperately needs.

          • bizzy gie

True. I was just offering what’d be best to you as a consumer.

But the reason you gave was enough not that you need one at all.

          • JB

That’s exactly what I’m saying. Mario Kart would cannibalize Watch Dogs sales on the U. I’m not refuting the fact that it would sell better on the other platforms.

          • matthew garcia

Like I said watchdogs will sell poorly on wii u mario kart or not. I’m also sure this mario kart won’t sell as good as the last

    • Magnus Eriksson

      Thats not the reason

  • FIreproof_actual

    Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • verymetal

This game has more hype surrounding it than anything I can remember. I am really interested in reading some reviews for it before I purchase it anyways. Also, I think Nintendo is more to blame than anything else when it comes to 3rd parties abandoning the Wii U.

    • blindtiger

nintendo does carry some blame but most third parties barely even tried

    • http://gentlerobot.com/ Gentle Robot

I’m sure the reviews will support the hype whether the game’s good or not. The blogs still want Ubisoft’s money.

  • Nintenjoe82

I understood the latest delay to the Wii U version as it being on indefinite hold but seeing as it is being released 3 days before Mario Kart, maybe they are just going to wait til Mario Kart ‘saves’ Wii U and the MK hype dies down.

I will definitely get the Wii U version if it has a map on the touchscreen. (and the game doesn’t suck)

  • Con

Why is everyone assuming that watch dogs is getting delayed because of mario kart?? They never even confirmed that. Jeez doesn’t anyone stay optimistic. We pretty much need to be for the wii u sake.

    • Lil J Moore

Well they first delayed it because of GTAV. Optimistic has nothing to do with this

      • Con

Now that I believe to be true. And I can see why they did that.

    • DC777

Well there has been some type of major release at the same time as other big nintendo titles. Who’s trolling who?

      • matthew garcia

Wii u embarrassed itself with bad business decisions. Good thing is that it has some good games coming out that I want. Nintendo did bury themselves this console generation . I believe nintendo next console will turn things around though. Don’t believe they will screw up twice in a row

    • Nintenjoe82

I was pretty sure that they cancelled it on Wii U. There was very little in their statements that suggested they were going to go back to the Wii U version even if they did say it was still coming. They couldn’t have predicted MK’s release date when they ‘delayed’ the Wii U version anyway!

      • Stephen Macneil

Hey still list Wii U in the trailer. Now would be their time to
Confirm it’s cancelled for the system, which they didn’t. It’s coming, but it’s going to hurt the game’s sales on the Wii, mario kart or not. Anyone wanting this game badly are just going to grab it for their other console.

        • Nintenjoe82

I will get it for Wii U if it’s a decent port. Just having a map will be nice.

  • BIG Franky

i’ll bet the new Ubi announcement is related to The Division….

  • Rygar

Well this makes much more sense now. If they release this game on the Wii U on May 27, who the hell will buy it when MK8 is coming out around the same time?

Third party can’t compete with Nintendo’s first party titles. Just that simple.

  • blindtiger

dont care that its delayed but still would like a wii u release date. hopefully a month earlier than expected for other consoles translates to a month early for us. watch dogs is my top third party game in 2014!

  • RyuNoHadouken

    PC master race, FTW!!!!

  • JB

Well if Watch Dogs sells poorly on the Wii U, because everyone got it in other platforms, then Ubisoft had no one to blame but themselves. I may still get it on the Wii U if it’s not too far off. Hopefully with the extra delay the U version is getting, they develop a few extra definitive version-esque features…

    • matthew garcia

I really don’t think ubisoft cares how it sales on wii u at all. They know there profits will come from other consoles. There probably putting it on nintendo cuz of there decent relationship with them.

      • Con

That’s one way to look at it

      • JB

I’m pretty sure they care. They wouldn’t be very good business people if they didn’t. Is the game a priority in lieu of the other platforms? Absolutely not. They’ll have to take the poor sales of the U version as a loss, but to say they don’t care would be an understatement.

        • matthew garcia

OK well excuse my slight exaggeration but they care about wii u sales less then the other consoles. U can’t really think there expecting a lot from the wii u fans on a game like watchdogs. Those types of games just don’t sell well on wii u cuz it’s considered the kiddie machine which I don’t agree with. Ubisoft knows this

    • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

They have no one to blame but themselves, but you can be damn sure they’ll play “Pin the Blame on Nintendo”. All the cool kids are doing it.

  • Zombie_Andrew

We can only blame ourselves for a delayed version, I can’t blame third parties for their disinterest in the Wii U when most Nintendo fans show a disinterest in their games. Especially when their content sold better on consoles that at the time had less sales than the Wii U. The audience simply isn’t there, despite my frustrations that I’d like some third party multiplat love this year, it seems most Nintendo fans are only interested in what Nintendo has to offer and nothing else. Thank science I have a competent gaming PC

    • Zombie_Andrew

PS: To show this I WILL be WAITING for the Wii U version of Watch_Dogs

    • DC777

Then they should very released it EARLIEST on Wii U. I’ve bought plenty of 3rd party titles so I’m certainly not taking blame here.

      • Zombie_Andrew

I’m not saying either of us are to blame, but the recent of evidence doesn’t lie, the two of us with a minority of others are surrounded by fanboys that are destroying the chances Nintendo has at gaining third party multiplat support. Most of my Wii U games are third party multiplats, only three are Nintendo first party.

In all honesty Ubisoft made a dick move by delaying it, but I can’t blame them either

        • NyallJodhan

Thing is, they delayed Rayman for the other consoles, and it sold better on the Wii U. I think we all know how they story would have gone if they had released it on the Wii U early.
Now they release it on all the other consoles before the Wii U (hopefully they do still release it because the Wii U is the only console I have) I hope Wii U owners wait out and not buy it for other consoles so that it gets at least a decent showing.

          • Zombie_Andrew

I’m hoping Wii U owners wait it out too, and I hope Wii U owners start buying third party games rather than the 500, 000 of us currently trying our best to support the Wii U’s third party. Because the third party support isn’t that bad. There’s plenty of games for the Wii U for people to play, yet barely anyone buys them. It just baffles my mind. I know a lot of first party titles are amazing and are of higher quality but so are a lot of multiplats. All I have is a PS3, Wii U and gaming PC, and I’d really like to have some “next gen” multiplats on the Wii U, currently I have to get Thief 4, Arkham Knight and a few others I want on PC, and I’d much prefer a Wii U version, despite my PC being more capable than a PS4

          • matthew garcia

Ps3 version has the best sells at this point

        • Stephen Macneil

Who wants to buy third party on the Wii U when they’re shoddy versions? I’ve supported third party on Wii U with games like Arkham City, Arkham Origins, AC3, Darksiders 2, Deus Ex and Rayman Legends. The last game I played, Arkham Origins was buggy as heck with terrible frame rate issues that didn’t exist on the 360 or PS3. From now on getting the best version of a particular game, whether it’s on 360 or PS4. I don’t
mind sometimes taking a hit to graphics to use the gamepad features, but the game should run at least as good as last gen.

      • Con

        Smartest shit i’ve heard

    • J_Joestar

then there are situations like Rayman Legends where it was delayed for multiplat yet still did better on the U anyways.

  • gerb1977

how well this does on Wii U will be directly tied to how long they wait before they announce it’s release date for Wii U. If it is reviewed as a game worth owning but they give no indication of when it will come to Wii U then anyone who has the option will buy it for another platform. Hopefully the delay is short….I am interested in picking this up

  • Maxid765
  • Mario

JUST RELEASE THE GAMES AT THE SAME TIME!!

  • Guest

There may not be a lot of games that have utilized the gamepad the way it was made to be, but the few I have played that have (like Lego City Undercover) did it extremely well. Also, you can call me shallow or easy, but imho, if off-screen tv play was all it offered, I’d still be happy. Love doing the tedious things, like gathering in Monster Hunter (or just grinding monsters for that matter) 0ff-screen, while having a movie play on the main screen.

  • steveb944

I already preordered this for the bonus. Can’t wait for eventual release

  • GregoryTheRainMaker

Knowing the Wii U doesn’t get a lot…it’s good to know this is still coming.

  • Daniel Gonzalez

I get the feeling this will continue to be delayed until Ubisoft finally announces its cancellation.

    • Ghost8484

Do u want Nintendo to succeed or fail? Just curious.

    • oontz

It’s very possible that if the other versions tank and sell poorly that ubi could just cancel the wiiu version all together.

  • The Clockwork Being

”We have our studio in Bucharest working on it, and we wanted that team to have the time to explore the GamePad and be able to have fun with it and see how far they could push it. It’s also an interesting platform, because it has its own strength, which we want to take advantage of, and we didn’t want to delay all the other platforms for that one. So we’re going to take the time we need to make sure the game is good (technically) when we ship it and that it also, game design-wise, makes good use of the specifics of the Wii U.” -Ubisoft

    Rayman right?

    • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

What happened to the team that already worked on the gamepad with rayman? Out sick?

  • Ghost8484

I have a question. If xbone ps4 and wii u only played games only with out any media(Blu ray music etc) which gaming system will be more successful and why?

    • oontz

The ps4, followed by the wiiu and xb1 in dead last.

  • oontz

As I said in the previous article I was actually going to wait to see which version was best between wiiu and ps4. I am interested to see the use of the gamepad as something more than just maps and items. However I will now pick it up for the ps4 simply because I don’t want to wait to play the game. If they all released together there would have been more incentive to choose the wiiu version. I personally think the wiiu delay will hurt the sales a lot. Many wiiu owners own more than one console.

  • ETeach

I’m trying so hard to stay excited for this game… but it’s hard to be excited with news like this.

  • Dylan Clark

get over it, its cancelled im buying the xb1 version

    • http://its-yuma-tsukumo.tumblr.com/ Yuma Tsukumo

Nothing to brag about, on both fronts.

  • Who?

Oh suuuure, delay the game now then bitch later when it doesn’t sell. Smooth move

  • Suraj Alexander

Off topic but important. The upcoming game by ubisoft ,watchdogs, is probably the last chance we will have with ubisoft. They will decide wether to put more games on the wii u after these sales. Considering the lack of sales for other ubifot titles with sales coming upto 5% from the wii u we really need more peope to buy it. I am sitting here with the dedsec edition preorder so have done the max i can. plz buy the game guys

  • LukeMM95

I’m more saddened by the apparent graphics downgrade. Now usually I don’t really care how advanced a game looks but, compare the new trailer to the previous e3 demos and you’ll see the problem. Honestly if this is the best the PS4 and Xbone can do, then I really am glad I chose a Wii U.

  • Tom Greene

I hate Ubisoft EA and Microsoft!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.shopmost.co.uk Nick

Many websites have it listed for a release date of may 27th, but the Wii U has nothing listed or information. I even read somewhere that the game was going to be canceled. I hope this is not true.

The game looks so awesome I just hope it is released soon on the Nintendo Wii U. I feel that Nintendo owners always seem to get left out of the good games. I believe it will come out but i do not have a clue when. Keep eyes open here for updates. http://www.shopmost.co.uk
