Wii Fit U gets massive price cut at Walmart and Amazon

Wii Fit U
If you’d like to get fit for the Summer by using your Wii U, you can now get Nintendo’s Wii Fit U game, with the Wii U Balance Board and and Fit meter for $55 at Amazon and Walmart.

Regular price for the whole package is $90, but Walmart started offering it at a steep discount this weekend, and not to be outdone, Amazon lowered its price as well. Now both retailers carry the $55 price tag. You can find the Wii Fit U package at Walmart and Amazon.

Wii Fit U was released as a digital download to those who had the original Wii Fit board, and as a retail package for the Wii U this January. It includes activities that were featured in previous Wii Fit releases, and new activities specifically designed for the Wii U GamePad.

The package also includes the Fit Meter, an activity meter accessory that retails for $20 separately. The Fit Meter tracks a person’s daily activity and then syncs the data with Wii Fit U for an analysis of how many calories were burned etc.

The original Wii Fit was a huge success for Nintendo and the original Wii, selling an impressive 23 million copies, making it the third best selling console game in history. Its successor, Wii Fit Plus, sold over 20 million copies as well, making them some of the best selling games in Nintendo’s history.

While Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus together sold over 43 million units, Wii Fit U for the Wii U hasn’t been selling nearly as well. In fact, sales has been so muted that Nintendo has yet to release any sales data for Wii Fit U. Hopefully the new deals from Amazon and Walmart will get the ball rolling.

Have you tried Wii Fit U on your Wii U? Is it a game you’d consider buying? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section!

inb4, Marcuss starts dishing shit at nintendo

    • Donaald

      Who the hell is Marcuss?

      • Commander Raichu

        i think he means magnus

    • Magnus Eriksson

Nah no need to. It goes by itself. Just look at the news. When were the last time there was talk of a new game? I think it was around E3 2013 or something like that. Wii U is already dead, and there is nothing to do about it. My guess is that Nintendo wont even mention it this E3. Its too much of an embaressment.

      • Shane Michaels

It’s true, Nintendo isn’t even going to have a presentation at E3. Iwata, Reggie, and Miyamoto are just going to stand outside and offer car washes. It’ll make more money than the Wii U.

        • Commander Raichu

          nintendo can win with
mother 4: have sqaure do this since they do amazing things with kingdom hearts or better yet have the old producers do it
zelda u: now ik this will be awesome
new f zero make it sort of like gta since it could be like that
new starfox in terms of revolutionary online multiplayer
metroid prime 4: retro could make metroid prime a new face in multiplayer competition with tons of different beams, different missiles, different color suits that are customizable and add a little attribute to something
pokemon wii u: make pokemon z and hd wii u game fans will but wii u just for that like the 3ds
animal crossing wii u: add more villagers per town(make it 30 per town) add many different things like you choice of being mayor and can run for elections through how you treat the villagers(also can have up to 7 others into your world online
mario strikers u: make it competition towards that years fifa and make it more fun and more hillarious will great physics and character custimization

make a nintendo rpg with all its ips using the nfc feature

now the 3ds can also have its own confrence(they did that before)
          metroid fusion 2(why not)
          ruby sapphire remake
          majoras mask remake
star fox 64 2 or something like that
          bomberman 3d
          ill think of more later
if you read this to the end then you should know that this is overkill for a e3 so im expecting at least a few of these
like of couse zelda u,possibly paper mario and animal crossing u, i also think metroid prime 4 will be revealed as concept art from retro

          • Commander Raichu

            now microsoft can win with
            halo 5 gameplay
            new gears
            halo 2 annivarsary
            new forza
            bunch of new ips
            maybe a cool exclusive shooter
            some cool jrpgs
oh yeah also for the casuals do some kinect games
now im not really familiar with microsft exclusive ips(since they dont have a lot) but they can win with this

          • Commander Raichu

Now sony can win with just showing all there awesome games
for vita a LOT more games coming to US because Japan cant carry it forever

          • Shane Michaels

All of those are good ideas, and good idea. They probably wont happen, but good idea.

    Wii fit is shit simple.

    • matthew garcia

This just shows how much of a slump wii u is in compared to the original wii. Nobody wants this shit no more. It was a fad that nintendo thought they could have success on twice in a row. Wii u is struggling

      • Skelterz

        wii u is fitting.

      • ICHI

The thing that gets me miffed is that before WiiU released Ninty said they were going for the hardcore Nintendo crowd again. They do the right thing with the eshop and make it available to indies which is awesome, but obviously they did this a bit late as games are only just about to turn up. They go on about the new VC and then release next to f-all on it until 1 year and 6 months in, they talk about 3rd party support then dont even advertise the machine so they dont sell any and 3rd parties disappear into the ether! Ninty I love you, you need help, if you need anyone to talk to just call, the first step is admitting you have a problem.

        • matthew garcia

I think they rushed the wii out to early. I know nintendo wanted to beat Sony and Microsoft out the gate but by doing so they left there developers in tight spot. Games were not ready yet and now wii u has these 3 month game droughts. If nintendo would have waited and had mario 3dworld as a launch game it would of had more success

          • ICHI

I’m sure you’re right. I’m certain too that little things like making a decent advert and sorting the UI in the main menu could help.

          • matthew garcia

Yeah man its hard to say what would work now for nintendo. I would hate to say for them to give up on wii u and start over cuz of my investment in a wii u but I don’t see nintendo trying to hard at this moment to turn things around. I think that’s what frustrates me the most

          • ICHI

They seem to expect people will just plump up the cash because they are making games for the system and seriously so far everything they have made is great! But people need more reasons and need to know about those reasons too. I dont pretend to know how they should run their business but you’re right that it’s frustrating watching them make mistakes, or ignore a great little box.

          • matthew garcia

Your right man. Nintendo has so much money I don’t understand why nintendo isn’t advertising the shit out of wii u. They should have cool tv commercials that make u want a wii u. I could understand them not advertising during sporting events cuz wii u doesn’t have sports like basketball or football. All that money they should develop there own sport games to compete with madden and NBA 2k. I know alot of people aren’t in to sports but iam and would love a football game on wii u cuz u could use the controller to select plays without the other person cheating and looking at your selected play lol

          • ICHI

Yeah i was wondering about that too recently, though its not great for some as they dont like the mario name being overused, their Mario golf and tennis games have always been exceptional! And they usually provide serious challenge or crazy multi-player fun. If they increased the potential of their mario strikers games to be similar in the soccer arena as it is with golf etc, so have full games, leagues, options for power-ups or not and the ability to name your own team, make mii’s and design emblems then it could still have the teams people support as well as OTT gameplay when people want it. There is no reason why this thinking couldnt be applied to the NFL too.

          • http://gentlerobot.com/ Gentle Robot

Yeah, it’s really obvious it was rushed, too. As much as I liked it, those first six months involved tons of bugs and loading time.

          • jrob23

Actually, i’d argue that they came out with the Wii U too late. I think if they had released in 2010 they would have been in better shape. Mobile gaming wasn’t huge then so there was less competition. Wii owners were starving for change and HD. They could have released Skyward Sword, The Last Story, NSMBU, and on time ports of all those 3rd party ‘launch’ titles they got in 2012. They would only be competing with PS360 and by now would be well on their way to coming out with a new console that would be as or more powerful than the PS4.
They fucked up big time. They got complacent. It’s too late. All they can do is appease the current owners and hope to get sales up to 20 million by 2016 by releasing great games.
Which begs the question. Would they be wasting time and energy making a Zelda or Metroid game for the Wii U since it probably won’t make a dent? Or should they be developing those for the next console to launch in 2016 and come out firing with everything they got?

  • Link Slayer

Nintendo figured the Wii U would sell like the Wii to the same market. They should have known just a few years after the Wii came out that market went to Smartphones and android devies. And I know a lot of people who went to XBox Kinect for there fitness games. I really feel bad for Nintendo and as a huge Nintendo fan Ive really been let down.

    • matthew garcia

Well said. Like any other company it’s about money. Nintendo thought the same formula would make them billions. Back to the drawing board

    • C4

I still don’t think all 100 millions of Wii owners vanished. Marketing and perception is still a huge problem. Also Wii sold because it was new. Wii Fit U is the same sh** as Wii Fit so naturally it doesn’t draw that many people. Nothing at all in this game looks “new” to me on first sight.

Why not make a proper fitness / sports game?

      • http://gentlerobot.com/ Gentle Robot

Yeah, it is more or less an HD upgrade. The biggest benefit to me is being able to play it without the disc.

    • BrandonIsAGod

The Wii might have sold 100M+ units, but by the end of the Wii’s lifespan, how many of those 100M consoles were played on a daily/weekly/monthly basis, I’d like to say nowhere close to as many of those who were playing on their 360s and PS3s, heck, I played my N64 more than I had played on my Wii… Amount of sales means nothing when for the most part, the majority of those consoles aren’t even being used.
Same with the Wii U, it might have sold over 6M units worldwide, but how many of those 6M consoles are being used? I’d like to say not many.. Then you compare to those who are still playing on their 360s or PS3s or even XBONES or PS4s, and I’d like to claim that those consoles are being used more than the Wii U. Probably wrong of me to compare the last gen userbase to the current gen, but yeah. xD

      • jrob23

but how many Xbox 360 died from RROD and how many PS3 were used primarily for blu ray? Granted, I think the wii suffered from more neglect, but the point is you can only go by total sales. Nintendo made money on those sales regardless if the wii was played only a couple of times at parties or during the holidays when family visited.

  • Skelterz

Completely off subject but i got dark souls the other week for like £4.50 why the fuck would i want wii fit,

I missed the original and couldn’t pass up this deal. Looking forward to joining the GameCritics.com gym. Maybe Wii U Daily should start one too.

  • Ajackson

Can’t they see? NO-ONE WHO PURCHASED A Wii U CARES ABOUT Wii FIT.

    • Commander Raichu

everyone knew this game wasnt gonna sell
(only game that sold was wii party u(it sold like hot cakes in japan)

    • http://gentlerobot.com/ Gentle Robot

I was looking forward to this game almost the entire time I had a Wii U. It was supposed to launch in January 2013, then June 2013 then sort of came out November and I was pissed at every delay. At least the upgrade only cost $20.

  • Rinslowe

This could be a good deal… If they were ever going to release a Wii Fit – Karma Sutra edition local multiplayer DLC…

  • Adam Porter

http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interviews/#/3ds/how-nintendo-3ds-made/0/1 i think this article from iwata asks explains alot of the problems surrounding nintendo right now, it seems they really are a bunch of delusional idiots. deeming it ok to fail aslong as you didn’t consider the product to be a serious product to be successful in the first place. it doesn’t matter how many ways you look at it nintendo, a fail is a fail.

    • hhfhfhf

who says it s a fail lol you ? lol Its sales are up and the wii u is doing fine but we all know the xbone one is a complete fail and Microsoft might be scrapping it soon….

  • cool1706

I won’t buy it right away, im gonna wait and see if Nintendo makes a Wii fit u plus.

    • blasterman

Highly unlikely, see my other post for link – Wii Fit U flopped hard. Sold under 20k units launch month (the month that usually accounts for half of sales). They won’t be making another. The main demographic for this product is gone and will never return (non-traditional gamers). I’d advise you buy this because once it’s gone I doubt they’ll be making more.

    • JuleyJules

If anything they might put out DLC rather than a brand new version of the game as they did on Wii.

      • cool1706

I think that could happen. Nintendo is really taking advantage of the eshop because you can download real games and DLC, not just Wii ware like on the Wii.

  • blasterman

This is because Wii Fit U is a massive flop. It sold less than 20,000 units the month it launched.
    http://nintendoeverything.com/january-2014-npd-wii-fit-u-sells-under-20000-units/

A word of warning, anyone that’s using the free version – the save data from the demo that becomes free with a registered Fit Meter doesn’t carry over to the regular game so you’ll have to start over. I tried everything. It goes to show that Nintendo didn’t plan that demo turned free game at the start or they would have accounted for this.

    • http://gentlerobot.com/ Gentle Robot

It’s not a demo, it’s the full game. Why would you stop using the free version?

      • blasterman

Because the Wii U only has 32 GB of space, part of which is used by the OS. If much rather save 3.5 GB when they’re practically giving it away.

        • JuleyJules

You don’t need to buy a new version as you can just get an external hard drive and move save data to it from the Wii U drive. They wouldn’t allow you to carry save data between two full versions of the game.

          • blasterman

I’m not putting an external hard drive in my living room. I have the full version already so the suggestion is pointless.

          • JuleyJules

You are too confusing. You’re telling people the save data from the ‘free demo’ doesn’t carry over but that is wrong. It is not a demo and the save data stays as they would already have the full version. No need for anyone who got the version as a download with a fit meter to buy the game again to have a hard copy.

          • Chad Bernier

You are weird dude. Why would you not put an external hard drive in your living room? You don’t even have to see it. You can get a 3.5″ size one, doesn’t even need a plug, put it behind the Wii U. The suggestion is not pointless. Over the next 5 years, you may want some more digital copies of games. Eventually, you will run out of space. I keep buying digital copies of games, because I don’t like having to switch discs, because we get a 10% discount on them, and because I can have them at midnight on launch night, not have to wait another day. Right now I have an external for the vWii. Someday I will need to get another external for the Wii U. So my Wii U will have two externals. No big deal.

          • http://gentlerobot.com/ Gentle Robot

Yeah I bought a 750GB hard drive and I worry no more.

  • Tecpedz94

Amazon is selling it for 80$ ???

  • anthony optimo

The walking meter is the only appealing item in that package.

  • janco tianno

It’s funny…. people here are trying to complicate with amazing histories… reading things like “All the money they’ve made with 3DS was lost with Wii U” or “Wii U is the most huge flop ever in the history” among other theories.

About Wii: Ok, sold 100 million, it was the “McDonalds” of video games, and received a thousand of crap ports from PS3 and Xbox 360 which were terrible, but were selling a lot. Wii Fit was a success. Wii Fit U is just a different software. The Balance Board is the same manufactured many years ago.

    But let’s talk about numbers.
Feel free to look at VGChartz.

Wii U. 5.9M (More than 1 year and 3 months on sale)
    PS4 6.6M (More than 3 months)
    XOne 4.0M

Even considering PS4 will be the King of this generation, It won’t be easy to reach 50M units.
Xbox One may sell more than Wii U in the end of the year. Maybe next year, but it’s not something so incredible. Sales will decrease over the year.

3DS has sold more than 43M consoles.
    PS4 + Xbox One + PSVita + Wii U < 3DS

The Wii was a huge success because it was not only for kids, but also for casual gamers, and it sold so much that it had a lot of games ported (bad ports, but they were there) and that made it interesting even for some hardcore gamers.

Nintendo is being agressive in the market now, first because they can, they have cash for that, second because they want to attract those casual gamers that still don't understand what is Wii U.
They are giving a nice discount for Wii Fit U, on eShop Ubisoft games had a week with some discounts too, and soon, they will Release Mario Kart 8, that probably will sell around 2M copies (less than New S.M.B U and Nintendo Land, but the same as Super Mario 3D World), and will be able to release good surprises until the end of the year (with X, Zelda, Super Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2).

Oh, by the way… DK Tropical Freeze, which was considered a huge flop, at the moment sold more than 400.000 copies…so…let's say that things are not good, but if we don't consider the passion involved, they are not so bad.

Oh, and by the way again, I think that soon people will realize that a new era began, where consoles will not sell so much anymore. Thanks to our powerful PC. And Mobile Devices, of course.

    • Shootdatrupee!…

Actually… PS4 is now outselling the 3DS. The chart below shows sales so far in 2014. 3DS was outselling the PS4 last year in the months leading up to Christmas, but that’s no longer the case…

      • janco tianno

I’m not saying the 3DS will keep selling more than PS4 this year (and even XBox One). Actually, it is still impressive that after all this time 3DS is selling that much. Just saying it is a long way, a very long way to reach 43M consoles… You know…. Wii sold more than 100 million… no one was saying “Microsoft has to give up and forget the games”, “Sony is completely doomed, they have to make games for Nintendo now”. Let’s say that if Wii U was in the same position of Xbox One today, people would say exactly tha same thing.

  • helpo

    http://www.change.org/petitions/nintendo-adding-online-multiplayer-and-voice-chat-to-virtual-console-games

Have you ever imagined playing an old classic that you loved and wanted it to be online to show off your skills or even play with friends and family that live to far away to play the game with them. Imagine Super Mario World with online and voice chat, Mario kart with online and voice chat or even super smash bros! from N64 with online multiplayer and voice chat the list can go on and on this can be something that I know will be a hit! We together can make this happen if we show nintendo that we really want this! This would be amazing!

    • Shootdatrupee!…

I don’t want to be pessimistic, but the chances of success…is…well…not…you know what I mean. I see only 25 signatures. Considering that Nintendo has ignored the petition to keep Wii and DS services online, as well as one for a Majora’s mask remake(both petitions had thousands of signatures), I don’t that petition there is going to have any luck…

      • helpo

I know that my chances are low (31 sigs by the way) But i will keep on trying nintendo needs to open their eyes and be more open minded. I would of love a majora’s mask remake on the wiiu I would play it every day, And I know if this happened it would be something that would raise buys in virtual console, give replay value, and make a whole new experiance that would be amazing. I will continue to keep on trying to fight for what I want even if Nintendo said no to my face I won’t give up.

  • Someone Cool

They didnt improve the board at all, very dissapointed… again. Nintendo is such a … cheap-focused company these days. I havnt bought “real” wiiu game since 3D World.

  • palomino blue

I bought the meter during the trial. I never play the fit games but I do still use the meter to track my workouts and sync it to my Wii U every couple of days. It was worth the 20 bucks but I dunno about 50+.

  • Razo_E

Funny thing is it’s a great multiplayer game. Everyone at my house tried to beat everyone’s records on the luge game. Also the trampoline game is fun (I kick ass on that one). My wife loves the dancing modes, though.

  • Ryan F

Interesting that they’ve now cut the price. It had been tracking between 60 – 75 in Global software sales, but last week tracked lower. I think this price cut will send it higher.

  • I am Error.

This is an incredible deal for those wanting one, but a drop this early usually means it’s not the hot seller Nintendo had hoped for. They clearly keep placing the emphasis on the wrong things, and by wrong I mean what the majority of their fans didn’t ask for or want.

    • Ryan F

This is pretty much a repeat of the digital promotion they had earlier. Own/buy a fit meter & balance board and get the game free — they’re just positioning it differently.

  • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

Wow. That’s a great deal. I played Wii Fit Plus at my friend’s house and it was pretty fun. I would like to get this, but I’m already in great shape. I lift weights for football. :)

  • Shagrath1983

Tried the rowing game and my fat ass was sweating after the final stretch

  • Blue Hernandez

Has anyone actually gotten in shape using the Wii Fit? (Serious question)

  • Vriska Serket

Oh you know in like a year the game alone will cost like 5-10 8ucks and the 8alance 8oard already goes for 15. Don’t 8other.

  • Mario

What? Nothing new? I thought they would write an article about Luigi’s final smash, the Poltegust 5000.

    • great deku tree

well technically it might not be his new final smash. he may have had it already equipped when he hit the smash ball just like you can do with Mario and his FLUDD. either way I’m happy although I’d prefer if it was a new move and not a final smash

      • Mario

I guess we’ll know once the game is released.

        • MetroidZero

It’s his final smash. In the Pic of the Day, Luigi has that “yellow” glow around him and that happens when you acquired the smash ball.

          • Michael Ocampo

You can use your regular attacks except for regular B when you have the smash ball so it could just be the timing of the photo

      • http://YouTube.com/ApacheFrei Kevin Frei

It’s definitely his final smash. The reason for his other “negative zone” final smash was because Luigi was always sad because he never got enough attention. That’s why 2013 was the Year of Luigi! He got his attention, and now that it is officially over, he no longer is “negative”, so to speak. :)

It’s worth like 10 bucks, just being a piece of plastic.

  • Spaniard0069

For what its worth, my wife and kids enjoy Wii Fit U. Not my cup of tea. I get paid to stay in shape for living.
