Wii U Daily Android App launches on Google Play Store

If you’ve got an Android device, following the gaming world’s latest and greatest just got a whole lot easier with the launch of our Wii U Daily Android App. Not only will you have full access to Wii U Daily’s entire library of articles, but it’s packed with other features, like full commenting support and notification of new articles. If you’re a lover of all consoles, you’ll want to check out the new PS4 Daily Android App and Xbox One Daily Android App as well.

One of my favorite features of Wii U Daily for Android is that you can choose between a light theme and dark theme and it comes with a tablet optimized layout. My personal favorite is the dark theme:

Wii U Android App

So slick…

Some quick tips for using the app:

  • You can change how often you receive new article notifications in the settings
  • The default design is a “card” layout that uses modern Android design standards. If you want something more compact, simply go into the app’s display settings and uncheck the Card option.
  • Similarly, you can choose font size, navigation type, and light vs dark themes to customize your experience.
  • When you’re reading articles, you can swipe left and right to jump directly to the next/previous article.
  • Use the left pane navigation to filter articles by category, see featured articles, or view articles you’ve saved by “starring” them (which get saved in the starred section)

The full list of features and suggestions can be found on the Google Play Store download page.

We think you’re going to LOVE the app and if you do, your ratings and reviews are greatly appreciated. But we want to EARN your 5-star review, so please contact support if you’ve got specific problems or requests or leave comments below. We’ll read every one that comes in and do our best to make the app one that you love!

    Hi Rob.

    • robjackson81

      Hi :)

      • steveb944

Whoa Rob didn’t expect to see you outside Phandroid and on here. Glad to see you’re working with both teams so I’m sure it’ll be a great app. As always thanks for that dark theme as it’s much appreciated.

      • jjbredesen

Great app, runs great the rss feed works great and all the other stuff works great to, runs pretty stable, and does not consume to much resources, and it has great themes etc. And of course disqus works great to,

I can also tell it was made with Appbuilder :P

        • robjackson81

Actually it was NOT made with appbuilder. It has a lot more features than appbuilder. We built this ourselves from scratch as part of a larger project.

          • jjbredesen

Oh ok, nice sorry about that, just reminded me of an app that was made with it, but if it was build from scratch it’s really impressive :)

  • disqus_QNIAqtNpHo

yes! finally! i use my tablet a lot and i used to have to search wii u daily on google chrome

    • http://ejercitogeek.net/ Mercurio2054

i use my wii u a lot… @robjackson81:disqus can we have some day the web statistics from devices that visit wiiudaily?

i think at least 50 wii u a week have to visit you guys.

  • BIG Franky

LOL…..it just seems appropriate that a site based around Wii U chooses to release on Android before iTunes, LOL! that is just priceless…..

    • BIG Franky

cue the “Android is better than iPhone” nonsense excuse in 3…2…1…. LOL!

      • Assassinated23

        Your count is off.

      • robjackson81

What’s the point in picking an iPhone vs Android fight here? It has pretty much nothing to do with this announcement. The verdict on iPhone vs Android has already been determined: some prefer iPhone, some prefer Android, both are great so use the one you prefer and get on with your life!

        • BIG Franky

haha… of course… point is, why not introduce this app on iTunes?

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

The development process is very different, and android’s is much more approachable (not to mention cheaper). That could be one reason. (I didn’t have any hand in developing the app, so that’s just a guess)

          • jjbredesen

As a noob Android dev, i can confirm that what you say is right, Android apps, are simple to make with programs such as oracle and some basic java skills, you simply install your APK and publish it, it costs nothing, but if you want it on Google Play you must pay a 1 time fee of 25USD, and you can then publish as many apps as you want, but with IOS you must pay 99USD a year…., of course if you jailbrake your iphone you can just install the IPA file, but that requieres that the user has jailbroken there phone.

I find Android to be way better than IOS, when it comes to just about anything, because you can change anything you want, everything from the launcher and lock screen to the kernel.

People jailbrake there IOS device to be able to do what android already can do, but il not start a Android vs IOS debate they never end well.. :P

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

yeah, let’s not start it and just agree on our similar opinions :P

          • jjbredesen

            Agreed ;)

        • Dominicruz

the diferences is that on android everybody can publish their apps free but with itunes they have to approve and requires many things and you have to pay to itunes publish a app

    • Nate

Why would they release it on iTunes first? This seems like a pretty international Web site and Android has around an 81% share of the market worldwide as compared to Apple’s 12% (when talking about smartphones).

      • FlashFan207

Don’t really want to pick a fight here, but those numbers are not accurate. The numbers you provided are based on how many units Android manufacturers shipped to retailers, while the iPhone numbers are based off of actual sales to end users as reported by Apple. Google does not provide that information, and their numbers include the phones that are still sitting unsold on retailer shelves, which explains the seemingly slanted percentages. Apple soundly beat Android manufacturers with end of year profit, so suffice to say both platforms are performing very well. I’m just sayin’ because I thought it deserved mentioning. Whatever facts that have been provided on this message board already regarding which OS is easier to develop for, Google Play vs iTunes, generally speaking iTunes is generally more profitable for developers. That said, a WiiUdaily app would be free and advertising notwithstanding, would not benefit from app purchases, so I can see why the iOS app would be put on the backburner. Still holding out hope for one, though. That would be cool…

  • Dominicruz

now they going to make money on the app too :( I need to build and app too!

  • wiiucompl

    Good news. THX

  • darkcreap

Surprisingly, we still don’t have the Miiverse app from Nintendo. Nintendo, what is happening to you?

    • Tim van Broekhoven

Browser version looks like an app though

    • YayGs

Didn’t think they were actually planning on making an app, just accessible on mobile devices.

  • Petri

Might just keep pulse, since I can follow other sites as well.

  • figs28

This is exactly why I despise apps. Just another layout for the website. Using a browser is way more comfortable (current mobile browsers optimize websites all by themselves) to me and I can use whatever RSS reader I like incl. notifications, custom layout, etc. Why is the world full of apps that just display what’s on the web anyways? If it was a Wii U game database at least or something similar, I’d see this as useful. Oh well, at least developers get easy money these days so I won’t have to be a waiter anytime soon.

    • http://ejercitogeek.net/ Mercurio2054

the app can be more resource saver than the webrowser, it’s, cand add notification, and other option that you can’t have with just using a browser.

  • Tim van Broekhoven

    Hi from my phone ;)

    • Tim van Broekhoven

Btw this app looks, feels and works amazing :D Great job guys.

  • Meeii

What’s the point really? It’s still feels like people create apps because others do it and it’s “cool now”. It’s just a different layout of the homepage.

We can finally know who wrote the articles beforehand!

    • JB

      This comment made me smile.

  • andrewjcole

    Dark version? (Pumps fist)

  • C.S. Bailey

    Getting this right now!!!

  • JB

Great app so far. Runs very smooth and fast. I have ran into couple minor issues though:

*When I go into an article and I comment on someone first before I make my own, the comment bar disappears. The only way to bring it back is to back out all the way to the main page and select the article again. Also selecting anything less than the large font, the comment bar doesn’t show up at all.

*If I’m on Chrome and I’m on a site that also uses Disqus, the app crashes when I check on a new comment via Android Intents.

Outside of those minor niggles, commenting is a more pleasant experience in the app than it is via my mobile browser…

  • Moreck

Wow, an app that actually came out for Android before iOS #unicorn

  • Steve Rees

Downloaded! I’ve been waiting for this moment for ages!

  • Andrew Clear

So, how do I get this on my Kindle?

  • WiiUisgaming

Bring the app to Windows Phone and I Store please.

  • Tim van Broekhoven

Great app, but since I downloaded it yesterday I’ve already had 3 crashes… Oh and is there a way to see the answers to your comments?

  • Gino
