Wii U launch sales were stronger than PS4 sales in Japan

It’s been three weeks since the PlayStation 4 launched in Japan and since then, we’ve seen a rapid decline of the amount of consoles sold in the region. The first week was strong at 309k, but subsequent weeks have tapered off to just 65k and now 35k this week. It seems as though Japanese gamers aren’t as thrilled with the PlayStation 4 as the rest of the world, where it leads as the number one selling console of this generation.

So how are the launch week sales of the PlayStation 4 to those of the Wii U? Well, according to IGN, the Wii U is thoroughly trouncing the PS4 in terms of launch weeks in Japan. The Wii U had a strong launch everywhere, but subsequent sales have tapered off to the point that the Wii U sells around 8k a week in Japan when there are no new releases on the console that week. For the first week of sales, the Wii U sold 308k. That’s 1k less than the PS4, but week 2 and week 3 are where the Wii U makes up for sales.

wii-u-sales

As you can see in the picture above, during Week 2 and Week 3, the Wii U did not see the massive drop that the PlayStation 4 did in sales. As Colin Moriarty suggests in the original article at IGN, there’s no solid reason as to why we’re seeing a massive drop between the two consoles, but rather a combination of things. The Japanese gaming market is moving away from home consoles and even traditional handhelds and is focusing on the smartphone market. While the Nintendo 3DS is performing well in the country, it is not meeting the same numbers as the Nintendo DS, which saw huge success before the rise of the smartphone.

Supply issues could also be a problem for Sony, as even the Western markets are experiencing problems keeping the PlayStation 4 in stock. It’s currently out of stock on Amazon with intermittent periods of availability. In contrast, the Wii U experienced no such shortage when it was released back in 2012, despite many analysts predicting one.

This isn’t really good news for Nintendo, it’s just bad news for Sony.

    • David Trail

Isn’t suprising really Sony has sacrifised their home land in order to get a foot hold in Europe and America. The PS4 games just don’t appeal to Japanese people.

    • matthew garcia

This isn’t really bad news for Sony at all. They no where the money is at and it’s no longer in japan. Ps4 is selling faster right now then any other home console in history

      • Floyd

Um…no, it isn’t. Is it the best selling current gen machine? Obviously, but I think the title of ‘Fastest selling console in history’ goes to the Wii.

        • matthew garcia

Nope look it up ps4. And Ps2 has the highest sales of all time

        • matthew garcia

Also wii did not sell 1 million Consoles on launch day like ps4 not even close

      • greengecko007

When I google search “fastest selling console in history” I get many results for “PS4 fastest selling console in UK history”. I couldn’t find anything about it being the fastest selling console in general.

        • matthew garcia

Well I know the wii didn’t sell a million Consoles on launch like ps4. I’m sure Sony hit 6 million faster then wii also

      • Thomas Fitzgibbon

But don’t forget that Sony is losing much more money than Nintendo and Microsoft combined and the PS4 isn’t sold at a profit as Sony have relied on PS Plus to gain the profit margin, but bizarrely only half of the PS4 owners have taken advantage of that, so at the moment in Japan, this really isn’t good news for Sony at all.

        • C4

Not that bizarre, what’s there to play online except shooters currently? Unlike MSs solution you don’t need Plus for anything besides online gaming itself and even then F2P games for example don’t need Plus.

          • DC777

Well Nintendo online is free. Of course we don’t have games that use it but…

        • matthew garcia

Actually Sony is making a 18 dollar profit on every console sold. But yes Sony as a whole company is doing very badly. Whatever happens to Sony there gaming division will definitely live on. Play station is going nowhere just like nintendo is going nowhere

          • jjbredesen

That is sort of true, but i don’t think Sony will last for more than another 6 years so the playstation brand will get sold to another company.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Anything is possible, but I doubt it will happen.

          • jjbredesen

If you look at how much they have in the bank in 2012 they had 0.9 trillion, but have been losing over 0.1 trillion every year, and the loss is increasing, so they will run out of money before 2018. I don’t want it to happen, but we have got to be realistic, being a fanboy and defending there situation is kind of stupid, they are far worse of than Nintendo, so they will have to sell the playstation brand before going bankrupt, the situation can’t be turned around, unless they work really hard. Shame they are a great company.

          • Magnus Eriksson

            Not likely

          • jjbredesen

Your always try to be realistic so just look at how little they have left in the bank, they have money but when they loose over 0.1 trillion a year it will run out before 2018, they are in a way worse situation than Nintendo, and its a lot harder to turn it around.

I think Sony is a great company, but they will not survive, its more likely that they go bankrupt than Nintendo going 3rd party thats for sure, if Nintendo situation was as bad as Sony’s there would be 100x as many doom articles, because then they would be doomed.

          • Daniel Gonzalez
          • jjbredesen

Oh, well i guess they where able to turn it around, thats great!

Also shoult note that they sold there entire PC division laying of 5000 employees witch is the entire of Nintendo! And that got them an extra 250 million, so to keep the profit they need to earn an exstra 250M this year to, and i think they could, the problem for Sony now is software sales, but i guess they could get things back on track :D After loosing 90% of what they had in the early 2000s i hope they can earn it back.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

They’re not out of hot water yet, but they’re doing things right with the PS4 so far. Hopefully, it can continue. They do have over 100 games in development at the moment, so the future looks bright for them. Now, if only they can get those TVs of theirs to sell, then they’d be doing much better. I think selling their PC division was for the best and a good move. It never really took off and they were struggling there.

          • DC777

No sleep button on my Bravia remote so doom is imminent.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

More than half, actually. You may wanna brush up on the news.

      • David Trail

For how long. That is the question. lOADS OF DISAPOOINTED PS4 FANS FED UP WITH THE CASUAL AND DUDE BRO TITLES AND LAME EXCLUSIVES SUCH AS KNACK

        • matthew garcia

Ha lol that’s why there still flying off the shelves. People even know what cool games to expect in 2015 they know it will have a good future. Nintendo hardly shows anything for 2015 leaving people wondering if they should even buy it

          • David Trail

What good games are in 2014? Infamous that is it and it isn’t that good. The only really good game is Uncharted and that isn’t out till 2015 XMAS at the latest.

          • greengecko007

So that means you aren’t interested in Destiny, Batman Arkham Knight, The Witcher 3, Dragon Age 3, The Order 1886, Drive Club, or Wolfenstein: New Order?

I can understand perfectly fine if none of these interest you, but they are still releasing on the PS4, while none of them are coming to the Wii U.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Davey boy pretty much doesn’t like Sony in a nutshell. Apparently they’re too “dude bro or casual” for him. Whatever he considers dude bro or casual anyways. I think he’s just upset that most of these games you mentioned won’t touch the Wii U, or at all. I bet if they were on the Wii U, these games will no longer be dude bro or casual. ;P

          • oontz

“Davey boy pretty much doesn’t like Sony in a nutshell.”

Yet he claims to enjoy his PS3 and he loves his PSVITA… so explain that logic. Ha ha.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Either he’s that illogical in this claims, or is just trying to fit in with the demographic of the site. I’ll go with both.

          • Jaymes Deen

“Demographic of the site”, you mean a site dedicated to WiiU gaming, where WiiU gamers like to get together to discuss the games/systems that they love. That unfortunately sometimes gets hijacked by people who have no interest in the unit and try to start up crap.

          • Jaymes Deen

I have a PS3 and I have enjoyed it for its games, but despite having the cash and ability to purchase the PS4 this very instant (amazon), I don’t really see a reason to own one at this moment (played a bunch of games on it, in my friends house). Doesn’t really seem to have anything worth playing to me, and I’m sill having fun with my PS3.

          • oontz

“Doesn’t really seem to have anything worth playing to me”

Which is great, because it’s your opionion. People find value in different things. So far millions of people have found value in owning a PS4.

          • Jaymes Deen

Do you know if he owns a PC or X1 cause if he does he can still play them on those, in case he doesn’t want a PS4.

          • John Andalora

and inFamous: Second Son. Let’s not forget that.

          • greengecko007

He had already said he didn’t care about inFamous. It’s a shame, because if it’s half as good as the originals, it will be amazing.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Davey boy depends on Metacritic scores to determine what is a good or bad game. ;P

          • Jaymes Deen

If a games get a bad Meta score doesn’t it usually fair badly in terms of sales.

          • John Andalora

Sorry, didn’t see that one. Hopefully should be a great game! It comes out the day before I go home for Spring Break!

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Witcher 3 is delayed until 2015 and Drive Club is too. Actually the delay on Drive Club is unknown at this point as it was said to be going back to the drawing board.

There are no confirmed release dates on Dragon Age 3 or The Order 1886 yet so the only ones in your list that have had a release date set in 2014 is Batman and Destiny.

          • greengecko007

Aw, that stinks. I guess I didn’t see that The Witcher got delayed, as that’s apparently recent news, and I don’t really care about Drive Club. Not having set release dates isn’t a big issue, and is only becoming more and more common in the industry. Although I’d obviously want it sooner rather than later in 2015.

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I only mentioned it as it seems that delays are becoming a common issue this generation. Either way some may see that Nintendo not getting those games you mention as being bad but I say if you want to play those games then get the platform they are coming on. You can’t limit yourself to one gaming platform these days if you like video games of all varieties.

          • greengecko007

They are absolutely becoming in issue. I’d like to think that some of this has to do with learning how to use new hardware, but if the PS4 and Xbox One have similar architecture to PCs, I don’t see what the big problem is. Anyways, I’m patient enough, so I’m fine with waiting for a good game.

“You can’t limit yourself to one gaming platform these days if you like video games of all varieties.”

Very true. My only current gen console at the moment is a Wii U though, but I plan on getting a PS4 eventually. As a college student though I have to budget myself, so that won’t be until next year probably.

          • jrob23

see..that’s where you trolls are failing. We may in fact be interested in playing those games. And guess what…we’ll buy a PS4 if we do. Problem solved. But we won’t go on PS4 daily forum and talk shit to PS4 owners. I mean, how fucking sad is that?

          • oontz

“But we won’t go on PS4 daily forum and talk shit to PS4 owners. I mean, how fucking sad is that?”

But Nintendo fanboys DO exactly that. Ha ha. Double standards all up in here today.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Yep. I go to PS4Daily on occasion and see Nintendo fanboys there too. Double standards indeed. It’s really hilarious.

          • oontz

            it is hilarious.

          • jrob23

if they do it’s sad. I don’t even know if a PS4 daily exists but if anyone not owning a PS4 or who wants to someday own one has nothing better to do than go on that site trolling then their life must be pretty sad

          • oontz

            I agree.

          • Daniel Gonzalez
          • John Andalora

            Of course you won’t.
People will just stay on WiiUDaily and make fun of the PS4.
That way they get more likes.

          • jrob23

well, I don’t get why people feel the need to do that either. Maybe they feel the need to defend the Wii U and in so doing they respond to trolls. PS4 is sick. There are a couple of things I don’t like (that annoying blue light you can’t turn off and lack of games) but to me, it’s a must own system. They fixed my biggest gripe (the controller) and they have the biggest variety of games with the best graphics. When it hits with the games…watch out

          • greengecko007

Yeah, because you Nintentrolls know that nobody would care over there. You talk crap about anything non-Nintendo here so you can get upvotes from other fanboys. If you honestly think that I’m trolling, you’ll be in for a big surprise whenever so see an actual troll.

          • jrob23

you’re retarded. Celebrating a game, a studio, a system, or comparing thoughts and opinions about the Wii U on a Wii U website is what we do. The only time I hear any negative talk is when idiot trolls like you bring up other systems or talk smack about Nintendo.

          • greengecko007

“The only time I hear any negative talk is when idiot trolls like you bring up other systems or talk smack about Nintendo.”

The criticism Nintendo has been getting lately has been perfectly justified. If you think that everything Nintendo does is great and perfect, then by all means, you are entitled to think so and share that opinion. However, I’m also going to share my opinion, and that includes what I like, and dislike, about what they are doing. If reading my opinions is enough to make you uncomfortable, then sorry. I guess you don’t belong on the internet.

          • Jaymes Deen

But you dont just need a PS4 in order to play them, you can get an X1 instead.

          • greengecko007

That’s true, but the games are still coming to the PS4. David Trail is trying to make it seem like PS4 owners will being starving through a game drought, when that’s simply not the case. The only game droughts will be on the Wii U.

          • matthew garcia

I know kingdom hearts and final fantasy 15 ,metal gear solid and red dead redemption 2 will be out 2015

          • Daniel Gonzalez

None will be on the Wii U either.

          • matthew garcia

            No sir they wont

          • 00EpicGamer00

Did you just say “Red Dead Redemption 2!?” Is this actually confirmed or just a rumor? Also, if it’s real, is it exclusive to PS4 or can you get it on PS3?

          • Mario

Actually, I think Infamous is a pretty cool game.

          • David Trail

Sony haven’t showed anything for 2015 and they don’t have much for 2014 either.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            That’s why the E3 exists.

          • John Andalora

Have a hell of a lot more for 2014 than Wii U.

          • David Trail

            Not really

          • John Andalora

            Wanna check?
Here’s a list of games that one console gets in 2014 that the other console doesn’t.

            Wii U:
            Mario Kart 8
            Smash Bros
            X
            Bayonetta 2

            PS4:
            Wolfenstein
            Witcher 3
            inFamous
            Evil Within
            Drive Club
            Final Fantasy XIV
            Murdered: Soul Suspect
            Elder Scrolls Online
            Destiny
            The Crew
            Alien: Isolation

            How’s that?

          • SmashFinale

Might want to remove DriveClub… they delayed it into TBA…
And Witcher 3 is delayed into 2015.

          • John Andalora

Ah. Thanks in advance! I’ll edit them out now.
Found some others that are cool too!

          • HydePark1980

How many of those games will appear on PS3 and Xbox360 though?

          • matthew garcia

Well I’m Sure If Wii Was Not So Far Behind In The Times And Was Hd Along With Ps3 And 360 Nintendo Would Have Multiplats also. U have to remember wii u is nintendo first hd console ever. Very late to the party

          • John Andalora

Point wasn’t coming out on PS3 or Xbox 360. Point is it’s one console gets em, the other doesn’t.

However, I think it’s about 5 (including one I missed: Batman Arkham Knight) for current gen instead of last gen.

          • matthew garcia

When does mirrors edge 2 come out

          • CharlesAnderson

For what it’s worth, I would buy – and recommend others buy -three of the four games on the Wii U list. I’d buy Mario Kart 8 and SSB Wii U on launch day without reading or watching any reviews. Of the PS4 games on your list, I can see maybe one or two games I’d try, and most definitely not buy any of them without playing them first.

          • matthew garcia

Well that’s the risk of buying new games with actual new characters and story line. I mean we all know what to expect from mario and other nintendo exclusives there is no risk. I believe that is where nintendo went wrong. They need new exclusives with new characters. I mean u can’t count bayonetta 2 cuz it’s originally ps3 and 360

          • John Andalora

            Then don’t get a PS4.
The difference though is that there’s a lot of games for a lot of potential audiences.
I can’t say I’m gonna get every game on that list for PS4, but I like the more open potential for more games.

          • CharlesAnderson

The difference between the lists you posted is potentially nothing more than quality versus quantity. If you value quantity and third party games, and want to roll the dice on quality, don’t get a Wii U. But there are plenty of fantastic games on Wii U eShop as well as retail. The argument that there aren’t any games is ludicrous. The indies will be coming on strong soon as well. Shovel Knight is but one title. As a completionist, I have more games than I can possibly play and complete on Wii U for the time being.

          • John Andalora

Quite possible. However, I’m willing to take that gamble, because more often than not I find something I like that other people didn’t.
For example, I liked Thief. I thought it was fun. I felt like I got my $60 worth. However, so many people felt it mediocre since it fell below their expectations of “better than Dishonored” and gave it grades as such, scaring so many out of buying the game.
I’d rather make a gamble on $60 than keep buying Mario Kart and New Super Mario Bros. simply because it comes from a reputable company.

I count AAA budget games on this list not because they aren’t games, but because those are exactly what the consoles want to focus on. The indies have always been and will be filler between the AAA on consoles, no matter how good they may be. Heck, even the Nintendo Daily’s barely give it more than 5 minutes of screen time because that’s not what the main focus of the console is, and that’s definitely not why people buy consoles.

And finally, while there are some games of note on the Wii U, so many of those came trickling down after 16 months and one more is coming out in 2 months. And so many of those games are so similar to the ones played before that I don’t have a desire to play them. Things like NSMBU, MK8, DKCR, Pikmin, and SSBU have all been done so many times before. It’s like COD or Madden (even if one comes out years later than another vs. 1 year at a time). I can have fun with one of them, but I’m not interested in buying so similar of a game year after year without more substantial changes.

          • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Check your dates.. Many have not had confirmed release dates and a few have been delayed to 2015 or indefinitely like the Witcher 3 and Drive Club.

          • John Andalora

Most on PS4 don’t have release dates, but neither do the Wii U games. Only MK8 has an actual release date.

I went on the idea that they say it’s coming out in a certain quarter, and I took out Witcher and DriveClub.

          • David Trail

            Multiplat, where are the exclusives?

You missed a lot of Wii U games dude lol!

          • John Andalora

I hope you aren’t a shining example of all other Nintendo fans.
As you’ll recall, I said “the games of 2014 that one console get that another does not.”

            That means no overlaps.

          • David Trail

You forget Sonic Boom, Hyrule Warriors, Shovel Knight, Shin Mogami V Fire Emblem, Yoshi’s Yarn, 90′s Arcade Racer, Tengami…

98% of those games are multiplats that look better on PC and they are on Xbox One as well.

          • John Andalora

I didn’t mention indies like Shovel Knight, and all those others aren’t even close to getting a release date.

          • Capt. Smoker

I really hope we see Shin megami tensei x Fire emblem this year, Zellgius (black knight) in high school, can you imagine :O

          • BIG Franky

            it aint happenin….

          • Capt. Smoker

The game this year? or no black knight in high school with hot chicks? :(

          • John Andalora

Sonic Boom, Hyrule Warriors, Shin X Fire Emblem, Yoshi’s Yarn and Tengami don’t even have a quarter date, and considering most of them haven’t been talked about by Nintendo recently, I highly doubt them coming out in 2014.

As for Shovel Knight, I didn’t talk about indies intentionally. They only go so far.

As for what I mentioned before (which you still failed to read twice now), this list was for games that one console is getting that another isn’t. That means I listed off games coming to the Wii U that aren’t coming to the PS4 in 2014, and PS4 games that aren’t coming to the Wii U in 2014. I bought a PS4 specifically because I wanted a portable console with easy access that was cheaper than a computer and focused on the gaming that ACTUALLY HAD GAMES!
I also don’t care for PC as much, considering how many times ports don’t work (like GTAV).

          • jrob23

lol. Yep. And also how the majority of games coming out on PS4 and Xbone are multiplats. Why would you count those? ha ha . Failed trolling at it’s finest

          • John Andalora

I’d count those because believe it or not, people actually like to have games to play on their consoles, and having a wider selection with a wider range of titles gives them the ability to choose games right for them rather than having to buy the one or two games that come down the chute to feel that they justified their purchase!
Also remember that the list was of games that were going to one console but not another. The point wasn’t exclusivity, the point was more games are coming to PS4 than Wii U without overlap.

          • oontz

“98% of those games are multiplats that look better on PC and they are on Xbox One as well.”

BUT THEY ARE NOT ON WIIU

          • Jaymes Deen

Your right they are not on the WiiU; perhaps he was making a point that you don’t need a PS4 to play those games as you can play them on the X1 and PC, hence there is no reason to make a PS4 a “must have” when you have other options where as the ones listed for WiiU can only be played on that system?

          • oontz

Which is why a PS4/Wiiu combo is the best way to go. Just like last generations PS3/Wii combo.

          • David Trail

            Don’t need PS4

          • oontz

But you DO NEED some platform OTHER THAN the wiiu.

          • Lens Durandisse

            WIIU :

            Mario kart 8
            Super smash bros U
            Donkey kong tropical freeze
            X
            Bayonetta 2
            Sonic Boom
            Iwata Project
            Miyamoto project

            Maybe :
            Zelda U
            Mario galaxy 3

            and more

            For ps4, there’s a lot game just in 2015

          • John Andalora

DKCR already was released. That’s why I didn’t count it.

Also, if they’re called “Iwata Project” and “Miyamoto project, do you HONESTLY think that they’ll be coming out in 2014? Cause that was the point of what I posted. That they were coming out in 2014. So the same thing with Zelda U and “Mario Galaxy 3″ (which I highly doubt has actually been confirmed.)
            Why don’t people read?

          • BIG Franky

            wait, what?

            “Iwata Project
            Miyamoto project
            Maybe :
            Zelda U
            Mario galaxy 3″

stop. just stop…. you are embarrassing yourself. none of this is 2014. you look like a fool with this nonsense.

          • Lens Durandisse

            Lol

I don’t care about insults, you are fool and you act like a child

          • Lens Durandisse
          • John Andalora

            A) Lego Hobbit and Watch Dogs are also coming to PS4. I didn’t include those for overlap concerns.
Also, I’m willing to admit I’m wrong on Sonic, Project Cars and Hyrule Warriors. Fine. But you’re fun little picture forgets that Sonic Lost World was critically disliked. Keep that in mind.

            B) Oh yeah. and that has NOTHING TO DO with the fact that you’re comparing a 16 month console with one that’s 4 months old.
Love how hypocritical Nintendo Fanboys are. By this point in the Wii U cycle, all there were was NintendoLand, Lego and NSMBU.

          • BIG Franky

agree that it is hard to find something more mind-numbingly frustrating as a Nintendo Fanboy…. but make no mistake, Sony Fanboys are just as bad… same with XB Fanboys… people that are so blinded, biased, and closed-minded are difficult to deal with in all parts of life… not just in the electronics industry.
why don’t both of you nitwits stop the silly pissing match that is making u both look like idiots and do what I did and buy both a PS4 and a Wii U….they are both certainly worth owning!
the last few years I just could never relate to these people that insisted only owning one console… why limit yourself?

          • John Andalora

Because I’m sick and tired of people justifying articles like this! I’m tired of people comparing a 16 month consoles game line-up to a 4 month consoles. I’m tired of people comparing a November launch close to Christmas to a February launch and expecting similar results. And I’m sick of people hating on 3rd party simply cause you could get it on another console because 3rd party ain’t coming to Wii U.
Funny enough, I had a Wii U for the first year, and got so tired of waiting for games I sold it just before getting a PS4. And it wasn’t like I bought a game and hated it. I bought ZombiU, NSMBU, NintendoLand, MH3U, Wonderful 101, Rayman Legends, Game & Wario, and VC games. But I got bored cause I beat them too quickly and couldn’t get people for multiplayer.
            So I sold it.
PS4′s a better fit for me.
I feel I gave Wii U a chance, and it failed to meet expectations.

          • https://soundcloud.com/rauschenmaschine Kristian Kouvo

Hasty one. You’ll buy it back some day. :)

          • John Andalora

            Maybe.
But if it keeps on the way it’s going, probably not.

          • 504HotBoy

I feel the same way. I to own both a Wii U & PS4. Both wonderful consoles. I also feel when people complain and talk down on a console they don’t own, I can’t take them serious. Especially if their praising one console (the console they own or plan to buy) and dissing the other console (They don’t own or don’t plan to buy). They come of bias as hell and its’ hard to take anything the say serious at all.

          • Orange Lada

Wii U is worth it, but PS4 I haven’t made up my mind about.

I want the PS4 to have games out first, and it might make more sense at that time to get a Steambox. Have to see.

          • https://soundcloud.com/rauschenmaschine Kristian Kouvo

I got both. Just bring it on!

          • cthreep

“By this point in the Wii U cycle”…don’t forget about Zombi U, which was only disliked by those who were expecting a zombie COD spin-off shooter or complained that it was too difficult.

          • John Andalora

            Oh, true.
But, as I recall, people didn’t hate it cause it wasn’t like COD. They hated it cause of poor graphics and sound, lack of scary material after the first couple of chapters, and repetitive gameplay with the cricket bat.
            I remember liking it.

          • cthreep

I think the gameplay was SOOO unique with the gamepad that the minor bugs and not-so-perfect graphics didn’t bother me one bit. And lack of scary material? I was peeing my pants until the very end.

          • John Andalora

I suppose to explain it better, after you met all the different kinds of zombies in all the chapters, there wasn’t any other variety between them, and then the game thought it would be a good idea to just add more rather than giving you new zombies to try and face in different ways. Not saying it wasn’t scary, just that after a while the same zombies were just the same zombies.

Here’s an example of an internet critic who thought like that.

          • 504HotBoy

Zombi U had more positive reviews than negative. Got a 77 on metacritic.

          • John Andalora

But even the positive reviews have complaints about the game.

          • 504HotBoy

That’s with most games. Even the highest rated games have flaws. No game is perfect. Zombi U is far from perfect. But it’s still a good game. Got more positive reviews from critics. One of the best survival horror games I played in a while. As it returns back to the roots of survival horror and not being mostly or all action.

          • https://soundcloud.com/rauschenmaschine Kristian Kouvo

Yeah, because Zombi U needs braaiinnzzz to play it. ;)

          • Allan Denis Morelli Ribeiro

man the main question here is how many titles i want, from wiiu i want all listed while for ps4 i care about only two of then, and they will probably come to PC too. so why spend money on it???

          • John Andalora

Well, if you have a PC and are happy with it, by all means don’t bother getting a PS4.
But my Mac doesn’t play a lot of games and I don’t like the PC setup. I prefer taking my console over to a friends house, getting free games with PS plus, the connection with the Vita, the mass potential for games and the exclusives I can’t get on TV, the controller, and the simple ability to use it with my G155 Vanguard and take both single player and multi player games anywhere.
I prefer it because it has options for all demographics, and will have games that I may not be interested in now but might find interest in later. For example, I never knew how awesome games there were like Spec Ops The Line, Far Cry 3, FallOut 3, Driver San Francisco and such, and even then games like GTAV do far better on the console end than the PC end. I don’t prefer the Wii U because it doesn’t have the options of other consoles. The games you get are the games you get, and I’d rather have a wider range to be able to look at than a few good games that only appeal to a limited demographic.

I suppose that if you’re happy with a PC and don’t see a reason to get a PS4, don’t get one. But it works better for me because of all those variables, and to me has a lot of games I’m interested in getting. This month I’ll be getting inFamous, and when I’m done with the MGS retro games I’ll move on to 5. And that’s just this month!

          • Jaymes Deen

How many of those PS4 games are exclusive to the system and not coming out on the X1 also?

          • John Andalora

Probably a fairly good deal of them, considering.
But oddly enough, there are actual reasons for people to buy each one. I went with PS4 because I like the portability of the console, the integrated support of the Vita, the independant games (Curve Studios is one of my favorites) and the 3rd party support for lots of options on games.
I suppose people would buy an X1 for more integrated use with their entertainment system, Kinect support, and smartphone and tablet possibilities.

However, the issue with Wii U is that it’s majority of games are just the Nintendo games with limited selection, which will only appeal to a certain demographic. I prefer more choices to one form of appeal.

          • Lens Durandisse

WIIU have a lot of games and 2014 will be very helpful for the wiiu

Ps4 hasn’t games or shitty games

          • Link Slayer

But Sony is getting nearly every 3rd party game and not to mention those 3rd party games look the best on the Ps4. I love Nintendo. But Sony is not only going to have its top notch 1st parties its going to have almost all the great top notch 3rd party games. Im not talking about CoD lol

          • Daniel Gonzalez

It’s only dude bro and casual games when it’s not on the Wii U. Some people don’t like reality.

          • uptownsoul

            2014–1) Infamous 2nd Son
            2) Sony VR at GDC
            3) The best MLB game available on ANY gaming device, period.(MLB The Show)
            4) Best reported console version of WatchDogs

          • Dodge Pribyl

That’s funny… Because when I last went to Walmart, they had:
            1 Wii U
            5 Xbox Ones
            4 PS4s

          • Daniel Gonzalez

That’s funny….because when I last went to Walmart, they had:

            6 Wii U
            4 Xbox Ones
            0 PS4s

          • Dodge Pribyl

Different parts of the world, I guess.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Well, he did say it was flying off shelves, which he is correct. It doesn’t mean there aren’t a few left over in stores. Indeed, it does vary from location. I can’t find any at my local Gamestop or Walmart. I did find two at my local Best Buy, however.

          • Jaymes Deen

Amazon has some right now in case people want one.

          • jrob23

And since Daniel shops there every day…I’ll take his word for it

        • Link Slayer

Just like some Nintendo fans are fed up with not getting games for month long stretches.

            exactly

WIIU and 3DS have more games and qualitie’s game than Shit 4

Ps4 hasn’t good games and only shitty games and it deserve this sales in Japan

        • oontz

Can you please stop… you’re not influencing anyone on their decisions to purchase the system of their choosing. The fact you claim you will buy a PS4 in the future, yet bash people for buying one now, is not only hypocritical it’s retarded.

“The fact you claim you will buy a PS4 in the future, yet bash people for buying one now, is not only hypocritical it’s retarded.”

            That’s a given.

        • uptownsoul

“Loads of disappointed PS4 fans” Loads? Really? Where are all of these threads and comments streams of PS4 owners regretting their purchase? These threads don’t exist because very, very few people (if any) regret their PS4 purchase.

      • Lens Durandisse

Ps4 is not selling well in japan and it deserve it very well. Just bad games and old gen games, Japanese man don’t like shit

      • WiiUPS43DS

This will be sony last chance and right now the games are just not there same with there vita but i do hope the PS4 does well as does the Wii U

Thanks, looks like it’s time for another deals post.

  • linkzero65

That’s cool. maybe wii u has a future success in japan.

  • ChrisCamp

Sales numbers would seem to suggest that mobile gaming really is cutting into the financial performance of ALL consoles- which i guess is inevitable but really stinks considering that, while accessible, mobile games pretty much have plateaued in terms of quality. People are fine w/ playing cheap/freemium games now… bad news for others who like good games and production quality.

  • Jack5221

Sony fanboys be like “Its because all the Japanese people were visiting the USA during December / January. They bought their PS4s in the USA and brought them back to Japan!”

    • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Did you get that off an IGN comment? I swear I saw someone say something similar to that saying that Japanese gamers bought consoles from the US and Europe because they did not want to wait until it launched in Japan.

      • Dark-Link73

Maybe he also posted it there. I tend simply to copy and paste my comments in different sites for the same news if the content and comments allow it.

        • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

No the person that posted it on IGN was totally serious though..

      • Jack5221

LOL!! Yes!! I did! :D To avoid getting some kind of ban, I avoided using the name of the person who made the comment. But yes! Hilarious how desperate some people are to defend their console of choice. >.>

      • oontz

Well from first hand experience. In East asia, imports of PS4 were available a month before the official release here (Released Dec 21st). The XB1 isn’t out here yet and can also still be found in shops that have imported it from the US. When there is a demand shops and people will always import them. Which may account for some sales, but it’s impossible to determine how many.

    • David Trail

PS4 has no games that appeal to the Japanese market. Just dude bro and casual games.

      • matthew garcia

That is always your excuse. Face it I like nintendo but the console is dyeing a slow and painful death. Nintendo is already working on a new console. Wii u had great games but nintendo is not use to losing this much money. They will continue to support wii u through 2014 but I wouldn’t expect much in 2015.

        • David Trail

They are not losing a lot of money lol. How come Nintendo are hiriing new staff and making new buildings. Meanwhile Sony is sacking people and getting rid of certain studios?

          • matthew garcia

I’m just talking about sonys gaming division fool. And nintendo losing money sure they are. They lost 240 million last quarter and Iwata doesn’t take a 50% pay cut for no reason

          • David Trail

Sony have lost more. Their status is Junk credit

          • matthew garcia

As a whole company yes but there gaming division is doing great right now

          • David Trail

Is that why they layed off some god of war staff???

          • David Trail

Why are god of war staff being layed off?

          • matthew garcia

Actually god of war staff which is santa Monica studios is working on the order 1886

          • SmashFinale

I thought Ready At Dawn was working on Order 1886?

          • matthew garcia

Actually I believe your right. Game looks cool either way. Sorry to Davey also

      • oontz

        Broken record troll is broken.

  • Marcel Kleine

This is only Japan, kinda obvious Nintendo sells better over there. It would be more impressive if they sell better over here in Europe, so people actually know what a Wii U is.

  • Dark-Link73

While this seems to be a breath of good news, the reality is that unfortunately, console success depends on the sales on all territories, not just Japan. Besides, this doesn’t obscure the fact that the PS4 in less than 4 months, already passed the sales it took the Wii U almost 16 months to accomplish.

    • Brandon

nothing will save wii u anyway so r.i.p. wii u.

      • David Trail

Mario Kart 8 will be our saviour in Europe and America.

        • Brandon

mario kart 8 comes out may 30th the wii u will die long before mario kart 8′s out. :P

          • David Trail

            Suuuurrrreeeee

          • Wildman

Then it would already be dead by that erroneous logic of yours.

      • Jon

Knack was a bundled game. it is not like people flooded out to buy that game. It sold well because of a bundled game just like how Nintendo Land sold very well.

      • David Trail

They were only launch sales. Mario has sold more than Knack now dude.

      • WolfgangAmadeusMozart

Yeah, 3D world bombed so hard that it was the top-selling Wii U game for the entire holidays, sold over 2 million units in a month and made the Wii U sell over a million units in december alone, instead of 450k in 6 months. Here goes your credibility.

        • matthew garcia

Either way it still didn’t do the job. Ps4 already surpassed it’s lifetime sales in 4 months.

          • Jon

and that was something that was expected when the PS4 was announced. Actually, it was expected to over take it in less time than it did.

          • Brandon

and what’s next? wii u gets outsold worldwide by xb1? :P

          • David Trail

That is hardly going to happen lol.

          • Zuxs13

Source? far as I knew that was UK only.

      • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

Dude how many times i gotta tell you, Knack outsold Mario for only ONE week in the UK. Everywhere else 3D World did well.
3D World already reached passed the 1 Million mark. Ain’t nobody buying KNACK like talking about, son .Get over it dude Knack is too wack to out-sell Mario. Do your homework if you wanna be a console groupie. All your info is out-dated Catch up brah.

    • Dark-Link73

A comment of mine tagged as a “Featured Comment”!?!? Oh my gosh! I thought that day would never come! I, Dark-Link73, I’m awesome enough to have a “Featured Comment”!!! THIS IS THE HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!!!!

      • Mario

Sure it is dude. Sure it is.

      • oontz

“THIS IS THE HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!!!!”

        Keep reaching for those stars.

    • Zuxs13

Is that official? because Nintendo doesn’t release sales numbers for the first quarter until May.

      • Dark-Link73

It was all over the news. Do a search on Yahoo or google. It’s out there.

        • Zuxs13

I don’t see a single actual article saying that its true. Except for the uk. The rest are speculation based on incomplete data.

      • Dark-Link73

        Wii U: 5.86 million units as of Dec. 31, 2014. 13 months , 2 weeks, and 2 days.
        (Nintendo of Japan)

        PS4: 6 million units as of March 2, 2014. 3 months, 2 weeks, and 2 days.
        (marketwatch.com)

Is that “complete and official” enough for you?

        • Zuxs13

no not really, there still missing 2 full months of Wii U sales which were pretty good during those periods. Though i dont doubt the PS4 has or will soon pass the Wii U, your claim its all over the internet isn’t true, i have done multiple google searches and there are few articles on it and none are offical since there is no official Wii U sales numbers for those periods and wont be until May.

          • Dark-Link73

LMAO! OMG! You’re so OBSESSED in proving me wrong (and me in defending myself for that matter) that you never really paid attention to what I said in my original comment! I NEVER said the PS4 passed the Wii U in total sales, I said (and you can re-read my original post for “official proof”) “..PS4 in less than 4 months (6 million and counting), already passed the sales it took the Wii U (5.86 million and counting) almost 16 months (it wad actually 13, not 16) to accomplish.”

That is a FACT. It took the PS4 only 4 months to PASS the mark that it took the Wii U 13 months! I found the information on the internet, perhaps not “all over”, but it’s there! You just need to learn to look. Oh, and one more thing, please don’t come back with a conter argument telling me that I edited my original comment because once it is tagged as a “Featured Comment” it can’t be edited by the person who posted it. You’ll only make yourself look a fool.

  • JeanPaul

Maybe because of the holiday season…

    • David Trail

It’s because the games are too casual and dude bro oriented for the Japanese audience.

      • matthew garcia

Nah there just always on move. Even vita is doing better there

    • Daniel Gonzalez

More than likely the reason. Now sales are less than 10k for Wii U. In either case, I don’t see it as bad news. Japan is a small region, and overall, the PS4 is doing well. WiiUDaily cares too deeply about Japanese sales than worldwide. Perhaps because it’s the only region Wii U does better? ;P

      • Yen

Actually it’s probably because Japanese sales data is more easily available to the public. Plus they release sales data weekly which is why there are more reports of Japanese sales data than the rest of the world.

  • David Trail

Such a shame that Europe and America are full of dude bros and casuals…
That’s why PS4 is so successful elsewhere.

    • greengecko007

Was it a shame when casuals made the Wii the best selling console last generation? There’s no need to be upset that the PS4 is doing well.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Gotta love the double standards from the crazies of the site. They forget that those casuals made the Wii so successful. No reason for people to be upset because those same casuals moved on to other mobile devices.

        • David Trail

Wii still had the most hardcore games last gen

          • greengecko007

I thought Nintendo fanboys didn’t like “hardcore” games.

          • David Trail

We do, you guys don’t know the meaning of hardcore. You think that Uncharted is hardcore lmao!

          • greengecko007

I would think most “hardcore” wannabes wouldn’t think Uncharted is hardcore. It’s not rated M, and it wouldn’t sate their appetite for cussing and blood.

          • Mario

I like games of any kind.

          • matthew garcia

Ha lol hardcore for old ladies playing bowling. I really like mario galaxy metroid Zelda and Xenonblade honestly

          • David Trail

Zack and Wiki, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Zelda Twighlight Princess, Punch Out

          • Daniel Gonzalez

What people consider hardcore games is subjective, not objective, Davey boy. Do tell me what was hardcore on the Wii? Far as I’m concerned, Nintendo games are just core games. 3rd party was short of expectations. I never use the definition “hardcore” considering it’s based on opinion. So do define what you consider hardcore?

          • David Trail

Hard core challenging eg DKC, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Zack and Wiki… These games are just as hard as Demon Souls if not harder. Plus Demon Souls is the only hard core game on ps3.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            In your opinion. Gotcha.

          • David Trail

Play the games and you will understand.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I understand perfectly. Just like several people have said to you, everyone defines things differently. Hardcore, casual, dudebro, are all labels we like to use on games. Either you understand this already, or you choose to ignore it.

          • Kinhas

Hard as demon souls? Man i love dkc and metroid, boy but they dont come close xD

          • oontz

There is stupid and there is really stupid… you sir fall directly into the later column.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            I wouldn’t expect anything less.

          • Brandon

Sure, the wii had missed out on pretty much all hardcore games. All it had was nintendo exclusives and lame boring 3rd party games. So hardcore!

          • oontz

            Oblivious troll is oblivious.

        • CharlesAnderson

It was a fad amongst casuals. A giant fad with self perpetuating sales generation by virtue of shortages in stores. I clearly remember Wii Bowling being the halo game of the last 10 years and beyond Wii Sports, and perhaps Wii Fit, average people mostly lost interest. Not taking anything away from what the Wii is or was, mind you, but nevertheless it was a fad. Cross-platform Rock Band and Guitar Hero had nothing on the Wii and the motion control curiosity that spawned 70 or 80 million more sales than what Wii probably would have had any other way. Right place / right time.

          • oontz

            Very well said.

      • David Trail

ps3 was failing. Wii U has loads of life left. Enjoy your shovel ware on PS4!

        • greengecko007

I sure would enjoy PS4 games… If I had one!

          • David Trail

Enjoy Knack, I don’t think so, Killzone is mediocre?

          • greengecko007

            Is that a question?

          • David Trail

If you enjoy these game I feel sorry for you.

          • greengecko007

Thank you very much. Your sincerity and rhetoric skills are very touching.

          • oontz

Saying that makes me feel sorry for you. Please enlighten us… what games DO YOU play that are not beneath you and your truecore gaming tastes.

          • oontz

He usually doesn’t make any point, he just randomly types things.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

He makes Inter Treble’s fanboy banter sound more plausible.

          • John Andalora

If you had a PS4, or if you had games?
There have been games coming out, and fairly good ones at that. I think people get so worked up though if a game gets a score less than 8 on critic sites that they get too scared to buy anything and miss out on some actually good games.

          • greengecko007

I don’t have a PS4. I budget the amount of money I spend on video games, and this year I’ve already set aside money for Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. 4. I’ll probably get one next year though. InFamous, and The Witcher 3 are the games I want most that aren’t coming to the Wii U.

          • Brandon

witcher 3 is one thing but infamous can’t come to wii u anyway because well, it’s a sony ip.

          • John Andalora

            Cool.
I can say so far that I’ve liked PS4.
Excited for inFamous and Evil Within.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I think too many gamers these days depend too much on reviews.

      • Brandon

the n64 was better than the wii anyway. high sales or low sales! >=(

        • greengecko007

I actually like the Wii more, but’s just because I wasn’t very old when I had an N64. The only games I really played on it were Kirby 64, Zelda Ocarina of Time, and Pokemon Stadium 1-2. Meanwhile, there were tons of games I liked on the Wii, and I still play them fairly often.

          • Brandon

mario galaxy and xenoblade are not enough to save the worst nintendo system of all time the wii from MY judgement! and besides. nobody likes n64, EXCEPT ME! >=(

          • greengecko007

I like the N64 too. Just not as much because I wasn’t as into video games when it was relevant.

          • Brandon

well were in a minority then because nobody likes n64 & wii did not save nintendo the ds did! ds>wii. you still have a n64?

          • greengecko007

Absolutely, and it still works perfectly!

          • Brandon

mind if I recommend some games? I know this is kind of off topic but I’m just asking.

          • greengecko007

Go right ahead. I live not to far from a flee market, so I could probably get the cartridges faster than they would be put on the Wii U virtual console.

          • Brandon

f-zero X, dk64 (say what you want I like that game), paper mario, and I have more like world driver championship but I have to play it a little more for my judgement on that one.

          • greengecko007

I already have f-zero, but I will probably look around for cheap cartridges of DK and especially Paper Mario. I thought the gamecube Paper Mario was pretty fun.

          • Brandon

oh and have you heard of rush 2049? If you don’t have that I’d also recommend it.

          • greengecko007

            I’ve never heard of it.

          • Brandon

          • David Trail

I have 80 Wii games. Wii is not the worst Nintendo console. I still need about 20 or so more games to complete the games I want for my Wii. Casuals don’t know how to look through the shovle ware. Wii is and wil always be a great console for casuals and hardcore gamers alike.

          • Brandon

don’t change my opinion that n64 is better than wii. :P

          • Dark-Link73

With all due respect, I’d like to disagree with you in a couple of things. The Wii is not the worse Nintendo system of all time. That dubious distinction goes to the Virtual Boy. That sucker virtually (pun intented) gave headaches to people. I can’t say you’re about Super Mario Galaxy because that is a matter of opinion. AND, I LOVE my N64! It is my favorite Nintendo console of all time and I still play with my game library of over 70 N64 games.

          • Brandon

            1) I didn’t count virtual boy because that was considered a handheld. 2) mario galaxy 1 & 2 and xenoblade were amazing but even owning just those 3 games were not enough to make wii have the best library.

          • Dark-Link73

            1) The Virtual Boy was not considered a “handheld”, it was a “portable console” which is different. Thus IT WAS Nintendo’s worst “console” of all time. 2) Nobody said the Wii had the best library, greengecko007 said it was the “…best selling console of the last generation…” and the Wii had a wide library of stellar games. I have 85 Wii retail games out of which around 10 are “shovelware”. 35 of those are critically and/or fan acclaimed AAA titles.
Remember, game preference and liking is subjective and shouldn’t be used in an argument because, from your perspective, you’ll always be right.

          • Brandon

            1. nintendo says other wise 2. most of the wii’s games were garbage

          • Dark-Link73

            1) Nintendo doesn’t even acknowledge any more the existence of the VB, much less “say other wise”. 2) Again, subjective argument. Which lacks validity. But if you must insist, Metacritic’s list of top 25 Wii games are all 87 and above. 35 million Mario Kart Wii buyers must be wrong, 31 million Wii Sports Resort buyers must be wrong, 28 million NSMBW buyers must be wrong, 11.7 Galaxy buyers must be wrong, 12 million Brawl buyers must be wrong, 2 million RE4 buyers must be wrong; and the list goes on and on.
            Shall I continue?

          • classicgamer20

I’m sorry were did you get the idea that no one likes the N64? It’s one of the most popular Nintendo consoles and I know a lot of people who love the N64 including myself.

          • Brandon

beleive me. I seen a ton of haters aside from nintendo hating websites like ign even on nintendo centered sites like nintendolife, gonintendo, mynintendonews ect ect ect.

          • classicgamer20

Wow that’s honestly god damn shocking I thought the N64 was extremely well loved. If I were to guess the people who hate on N64 probably never played any games for it. So they probably judge the N64 on its graphics and specs and other stupid shit like that and not on its amazing library.

          • MerryBlind .

First off, no you are not the only one who likes the N64 wtf. Second, the Wii is a great console. Zelda TP (GC yes I know, but still), Zelda SS, Mario Galaxy 1+2, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Smash Brawl, (another) MK, DKC Returns, Sonic Colors, Metroid Prime Trilogy, best version of Resident Evil 4, Mario Strikers Charged, Red Steel 2, Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, etc.

Tons of great games = great console.

      • oontz

Ignore him he is an idiot.

    • John Andalora

Oh yeah, because games like New Super Mario Bros. U and NintendoLand are SOOOOOOOOOO HARDCORE!

      • Daniel Gonzalez

        Casualcore then?

        • John Andalora

Not saying they’re bad, but they’re certainly not meant for those looking for a huge challenge.
Go to Dark Souls 2 for that one.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Got my copy yesterday.

          • John Andalora

Nice! Just finished up South Park: Stick of Truth.
Made me glad I am American and had no issues with censorships.

          • oontz

I am importing one from america… Hopefully it arrives soon!!

          • John Andalora

            It’s really a fantastic game.
Kind of reminded me of The Lego Movie for adults, just playing around with an idea without limitations until you got something beautiful.

          • SmashFinale

            Tropical Freeze is certainly hardcore.

          • John Andalora

Couldn’t say if it was or wasn’t. Liked the first reboot but didn’t care enough to get the sequel.
But, I do find it funny that a man so concerned about the launch games in a consoles library being casual doesn’t realize that he’s using a double edged sword.

      • Jaymes Deen

What makes a game Hardcore? Is it the age rating that’s on the box?

        • John Andalora

My favorite explanation between hardcore and casual comes from Zero Punctuation, in his review of Rise of the Triad.

If you want to see the difference immediately, it starts at 3:35.

It’s not the rating on the box, but how difficult the game actually is. And beating a game with 77 lives with most levels being an absolute straightshot with no deaths is not a hardcore game.

    • oontz

So Australia isn’t full of dude bros and casuals? Also your poor use of English results in you contradicting yourself, unless that is you intended to say the ps4 IS successful because dudebro and casuals DON’T buy it. Yet another fail from you David.

    • MerryBlind .

Dude stop it, I’m doing Wii U + PC this generation, but if it wasn’t for my gaming PC, I would have got a PS4 instead since it’s a great consoles for multiplatforms, and many multiplatforms are amazing; they’re not all ‘dude bros and casuals’ games.

      • David Trail

        985% OF THEM ARE.

  • Frankie

This article is just fanboyism. One was released around Christmas and another in February where sales are much lower.

    • Wolfgem

      I’m pretty sure this isn’t just fanboyism….

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Basically, it’s clickbait. They have to keep up the traffic to the site somehow.

      • Frankie

        Exactly.

  • Dcj91x

.. well currently the WiiU is selling better than the PS4 in Japan now as well. the XB1 .. it’s just there. All game systems sale well at launch though, the real question is how it will be selling in a few more month or a year and that depends on the games. Nintendo has a decent line up of games for the WiiU and and many exclusives you can ONLY play on the WiiU. PS4/XB1 have pretty much the same games coming out for both systems and few exclusives overall. But you never know the Atari 2600 may make a sweet comeback this year!

    • John Andalora

“currently the WiiU is selling better than the PS4 in Japan now as well”

If you’re comparing the global sales of the Wii U to the sales in Japan of the PS4, then that would be right. But if you compare them Japan to Japan, this is wrong.

Wii U is selling about 8,000 in Japan, while PS4 sells 33,000.

      http://www.vgchartz.com

“PS4/XB1 have pretty much the same games coming out for both systems and few exclusives overall.”

Funny thing is, people don’t get these consoles for exclusivity. They get these consoles for their own needs. I got a PS4 because it’s portable and has the 3rd party I want. Some might get Xbox One for the more integrated entertainment set-up and Kinect features.

Wii U may have more exclusives, but considering the fact that that’s all it has people don’t want it. They’d rather have a console that will get more games coming to it, thereby having a greater potential for more games that they are interested in.

    • oontz

“well currently the WiiU is selling better than the PS4 in Japan now as well.”

No it’s not, the numbers posted yesterday clearly show the ps4 outselling the wiiu 3:1

  • bistricky

I would imagine that Sony is not happy with the significant drop-off in sales in Japan ….
but the global numbers provide a different message. 6.1 million consoles sold worldwide for the PS4 compared to 5.8 million for the Wii U (and only 3.7 million for Xbox One). The stat that stands out though, is that the PS4 is selling virtually the same amount in all world regions a week …. most recent stats: North America = 37k …. Europe = 37k ….. Japan = 35k.
The Wii U best sales reside in North America but still 1 to 3 of what Sony is presently selling.
Almost since day 1, all I have heard is that Wii U has failed (or will) because of its small install base. PS4 is now only selling around 100,000 units per week worldwide (and this is the dominant selling console looking at 10 million in its first year) …… seems to me that all consoles have this “small install base” but only Nintendo gets the negative focus to a changing market..

    • David Trail

PS4 wont have 10 million in its first yeae lol!

      • bistricky

That’s the point …. its low …. but if the PS4 continues 100,000 per week it would be around 10 mil (as it is 6.1 mil right now) ….. and if the leading PS4 sales continue to drop worldwide …. then does Wii U really have a “small install base” ???

        • David Trail

They wont stay like that. It isn’t XMAS

          • oontz

You are a tool. Seriously as much as I love Nintendo and love my wiiu… The ps4 is going to crush the wiiu in lifetime sales as it’s already been shown. You can live your life with binders on and continue to look stupid with your posts or you can actually look at it from a realistic mature opinion.

          • ben

I have a question for you. What is going to sell the PS4 next Christmas?

          • oontz

“What is going to sell the PS4 next Christmas?”

            The lack of competition.

          • ben

Then it is in big trouble. Because there will certainly be competition. MS will start a price war that sony can’t win and Nintendo will have the games.

          • oontz

Nintendo will have a few heavy hitters and so will Sony. Problem is public perception. Sony PS4 is cool system to have right now, you can’t buy publicity like that. The gap is only going to grow, I am sure they will have some interesting bundles around the holidays as well.

          • ben

            Hype dies pretty quickly.
If Sony don’t bring something huge to the table. They need a game for next winter that is going to get new customers interested.
I can see a Wii at 250 dollars with Kart selling truck loads next Christmas. I can’t see what will sell the PS4 next Christmas. Maybe they will show me something at e3.

          • oontz

Look as great as Kart is going to be (I am buying ti day one) it’s NOT going to move systems. The PS4 will continue to distance itself from the wiiu in both game choice/selection and visual fidelity. It’s obvious the PS4 has something the wiiu doesn’t, because people are buying it. It’s not selling on hype alone.

          • ben

            How can you know that?
You’re basing your logic on a sample of 3 months. 9 months is a long time. The PS4 is going to be a great system, however, be realistic it is offering nothing but hype this year. The PS4 will be the best console to own in 3 years. THe Wii U is the best console to own this year and next year.
Denying this is denying the facts. The PS4 has no games. Don’t say second son, because that is such a limited market. It has the same audience as a game like Bayonetta 2. It will be bought by those people who like those types of games.

I can’t see anyone, outside of 15-30 males buying the PS4.
Christmas is a family holiday. The wii was so successful because it was family friendly. The wii u has the same attributes and will have a selection of family friendly high quality games available next winter. The PS4 has nothing for audiences under 14,

          • oontz

“The wii was so successful because it was family friendly.”

No, the wii was so successful because of hype.

          • David Trail

Wii sold as it had the best exclusives Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 97% combined with great marketing.

          • Marcus Larsson

Those were just bonuses for all families who bought it and needed a game for the kids to play between the whole drunk-preparty-bowling-contests for the midelders

          • David Trail

Xenoblade, Pandoras Tower, Last Story, Skward Sword, Twighlight Princess, Punch Out, DKC???

          • Marcus Larsson

            Yes those too.

Your logic applies three fold to the PS4.

          • David Trail

            Watch this spacece

      • matthew garcia

Ha lol Sony sold more than 6 million in 4 months there over half way there with 8 months left lol

        • David Trail

Know one buys consoles after xmas as this blog is showing.

          • matthew garcia

Dude your looking at just Japan sales. U do realize there is a whole world out there

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Davey boy lives in his own world, Matt. He’ll eventually come back to the real one soon enough.

          • matthew garcia

            Definitely in fantasy land

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Nintendo land or perhaps Fantasy Island.

          • David Trail

Yes exactly and you do realise that a console life time sales is not determined by its launch sales. Wii U can catch up to the ps4!!!!

          • matthew garcia

Your absolutely right on that but with nintendo releasing 1 game every 3 months nintendo won’t even come close to ps4.

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

There actually was a Wii U shortage for a bit. I couldn’t find one in stores for a few weeks after launch

    • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

In Europe there has never been a shortage on WiiU consoles but there is one for PS4 it’s said even all PS4′s coming to Europe will be reserved for Pre-orders until the end of may.

The sad truth regarding Wii U is that I bought mine almost1.5 years after European Launch and I managed to buy a Launch Bundle (Zombiu bundle with the pro controller etc) and that same bundle is still widely available prettymuch everywhere in the Netherlands and the majority of European Countries, you don’t even need to search very hard for it either…

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

Yeah, Europe it didn’t go well in. US it went a little better, but not much

        • oontz

Here in east Asia the wiiu is barely a spec on the gaming radar. Not many shops carry it and hardly no one knows what it is. However the 3ds is in constant demand as is the original wii.

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

huh… How about the PS4 and XBO?

          • oontz

PS4 is selling as fast as they come in. XB1 isn’t officially released here but shops are importing them and selling them. However PS4 is the hot system here.

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

Really cool to know. Thanks for the info :)

    • oontz

I had no issues waking into a walmart and getting a day one deluxe and a couple of games. All without a preorder.

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

        where though?

  • Donaald

I know of a “solid” reason why this is happening, it isn’t Christmas anymore. And even though the Japanese aren’t Christians they still celebrate it, just look at the December sales for the Wii I and you’ll see a big spike in sales. Personally, I don’t care about sales, I won’t get a ps4 until something I like comes to the console.

    • oontz

“I won’t get a ps4 until something I like comes to the console.”

That’s a total valid opinion to have. It’s just sad that people who do find value in a system at launch are treated like shit for enjoying games on other platforms. People should play games to play games. I hope you enjoy whatever games you play!

      • Donaald

        Thanks, man!

  • Yen

As nice as that sounds, realistically speaking the reason for PS4 to not do as well in Japan as the rest of the world is most likely because the PS3 is still getting a ton of new game this year. That’s probably why less people in Japan see the need to upgrade right away.

    • David Trail

It is because PS4 has no Japanese games. That is all. Nothing else.
It is for dude bros and casuals!

      • Yen

I don’t even agree that it’s for casuals, but yea that’s basically why sales aren’t as high in Japan. Still it’s nice to hear something other than “oh PS4 is selling so well it’s the best thing in the world” and “Wii U is crap because PS4 is selling so much better”.

        • David Trail

Resogun, Knack, COD, Fifa all casual titles.

          • Yen

Hmm I guess everyone defines casuals differently. I see CoD and Fifa being more “dude bro” type games. Knack and Resogun I can see being casual, I’d have to play it and see how they feel.

          • David Trail

See casual and dude bro games is all ps4 has!

          • oontz

You get stupider by the day mate.

          • David Trail

If you think Resogun isn’t casual. I am afraid you are stupid mate.

          • oontz

Man resogun hits all the points YOU actually use to define a hardcore game.

          • David Trail

Ha ha ha ha ha lmao!!!!!

          • David Trail

            Ha ha ha lmao!!!!!

          • Marcus Larsson

I bought sm3dw and it was kinda fun, but no story.
Just like super Mario for snes and nes.
Now that is a casual game.

          • oontz

You have obviously never played resogun .

        • oontz

Casual gamers don’t buy 400usd console at launch. They wait a few years till the price drops.

      • Enumerating Wishes

The generation “winner” will go to who has the more higher quality games. After E3 last year I was thinking of getting a PS4 but honestly it has barely a handful of games I’d play (that’s released) out of its narrow selection. I look forward to 2015 already.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

The first year is usually a bust for most consoles. I expect 2015 to be a better year for PS4.

          • Yen

Can I just ask something? Why is it that when the PS4 has a bad first year, you’re fine with saying “The first year is usually a bust”. But the Wii U is a dying console? I’m not saying Nintendo was perfect in execution, and yes the second year isn’t as impressive as it needs to be so far, but in terms of first years being a bust for most console, that goes for the Wii U as well. So why is it you seem to really beat on the Wii U, but defend the PS4 for it?

Edit: “Just to be clear I messed up, I didn’t mean to imply the PS4 has a bad first year. I meant in terms of this article as in only in Japan.”

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Simple. Cause I know it bothers the crazies on the site. What better way to do it by making the PS4 look better and Wii U looking like a dying console? I do this while having serious conversations with people that are easy to get along with. It makes it difficult to know when I’m serious or screwing around. I prefer it that way. You’re one of the few that actually ask kindly, so props to you. ;P

          • David Trail

Why are you even on Wii U daily?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I believe I already answered that question.

          • oontz

            Why are you on here?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Well said.

          • David Trail

Nintendo and the Wii U is my favourite.

          • jrob23

I’ll answer. Because he has played enough Nintendo to be able to talk somewhat intelligently and to have an opinion based on experience with past consoles. So he thinks that gives him a legitimate ‘voice’ concerning the Wii U…which it doesn’t. As his posts make all too clear to the rest of us. He is through and through a Sony fanboy now. You can see his tweets, youtube page, and posts everywhere. The dude simply loves his Sony and dudebro. But that’s okay. More power to him. But why come on a Wii U site?
When the Wii U came out…in order to justify the fact he didn’t get one (most likely can’t afford it) he comes on here and talks down about it. The Wii U is a better machine than the PS3. It irks him. So until PS4 came out (which he also can’t afford) he felt the need to prop up his PS3. Which…to the rest of us Wii U owners, or prospective owners, seems odd. Because I think most people will freely admit the PS3 is a great blu ray player, has a substantial library of good games, and is worth owning.
But once the PS4 came out, even though he doesn’t own either a Wii U or PS4, he can now point out (with confidence) how his company of choice (Sony) is more powerful and better. Which again, is odd, because this is a Wii U site and his opinion about the PS4, like the Wii U, is based purely on speculation and articles he’s read.
He thinks he is cute, with his memes and poor attempts at wit, but it is sad to us. We are just here as a collective to talk about a console that interests us. Whether we like a game or not, its price, its place in the industry. We’d prefer Wii U owners or those looking for information about it to determine a future purchase on this forum. There are only around 5 massive d bags and they know who they are on here. But sadly they are the most vocal. You’d have to be a complete loser to go on a forum of a product you don’t own and don’t plan on owning. I can’t imagine how sad a life he has that he’d rather spend time on here than game on his PS3 with his hermanos.
He doesn’t ‘get to us’ like he thinks he does. His affect on us is not to anger us, it’s to feel empathy and sorrow that people with so little going on in there life would feel the need to fill it by doing this. Like when you see that one kid on the playground alone, away from the other kids…and he tries to join the fun but they push him away. That’s Daniel. And we’d be nice to him if he’d just stop being such a waste of space by cracking bad jokes, sharing opinions on off topic things, and such.
Trolling successfully is just not in his bag of tricks. But he doesn’t get it, he actually thinks he is doing it correctly. Daniel thinks our responses to him and us making fun of his weak attempts means he is some master troll, but it’s more like how you’d give advise to a really fat slob…how they need to go on a diet. It’s a response aimed at talking him off the ledge because, he’s got to be suicidal..he’s got to be.
So as long as you enter every single forum knowing that if it’s an article pointing out a positive about the Wii U…you’ll read a awful attempt at wit and trolling by him…you’ll be okay. And, that if the article is negative about the Wii U, he’ll be front and center, trying to be cute and anger the ‘fanboys’ as he likes to call Wii U owners who like to go to a Wii U forums. I mean, is that possibly the dumbest thing you can call us? Hey you…over there ordering ice cream at Baskin Robbins…yeah you…you keep defending ice cream, and you like all those flavors..you must be a Baskin Robbins fanboy. How sad!!

          • Marcus Larsson

I own a wii u but not a ps4 and i still think ps4 Will have hundreds of better games that wii u Will have in three years.
My hope was that the wii u would release Nintendo exclusives with Third party but nope.
So now My opinion is; i want a ps4 and My wii u sucks.
And its only hope for staying in My livingroom is a good zelda

          • Daniel Gonzalez

To read your comedic posts and respond to them in a way that you despise while sitting back and listening to you rant like child. Life’s little pleasures have it’s advantages. Is that the truth? Nah, but you’re more than welcomed to think so. Considering you prefer to act like a 3rd grader, I see no reason to give you an honest answer. ;P

          • David Trail

Doubt it will be that great. Sony are known for taking their time making good games. The best games on ps3 came 5 years into the consoles life. Everyone buying a ps4 now is wasting their time.

          • Enumerating Wishes

The Wii U was released so early I kind of forget how young the PS4 is.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            4 months

  • BIG Franky

not that it is the total reason for discrepancy, as it is mitigated somewhat by the fact that it is a console launch, but not for nothing notice the dates? Wii U launches at height of Christmas buying season, whereas PS4′s is in Feb/March, the slowest sales period of the year for electronics.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Indeed. Can’t really talk to the crazies about it, though. You’d have a more productive conversation with a brick wall.

    • oontz

      Journalism isn’t just a word.

  • GuardiansFan

not that i care about Sony but the Wii U was also released just before christmas in japan wasnt it? I would assume that would also factor in

    • Marcus Larsson

      Yep

  • John Andalora

Funny thing is, globally the PS4 sold BETTER than the Wii U did in its first quarter.

Wii U by end of 2012: 2.3 million.
    PS4 by end of 2013: 4.2 million.

    And that’s WITHOUT Japan.

Boy, if I didn’t know better, I’d say that this whole article is meant to make people think the sales of the Wii U are doing better than they actually are!

    • Daniel Gonzalez

They’re okay in Japan, but that’s about it. I guess they need some kind of good news somewhere, though.

      • David Trail

Mario Kart 8 out soon. Wii U SALES CONTINUE TO RISE!

        • oontz

But the wiiu sales went down this week compared to last? So how can they “continue” to rise, if they aren’t rising?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Anything is possible in illogical land.

    • Yen

I don’t disagree that the article can be misleading, but pretty sure Wii U had 3.06 by the end of 2012. Doesn’t change your point, just fixing your numbers. The without Japan part I don’t think really has anything to do with it. Part of the reason they didn’t release PS4 worldwide is so they can focus the entire stock of PS4s in one region. If PS4 was released in Japan too it’d just cut into their numbers in other parts of the world.

      • John Andalora

I’m glad that they spread out the PS4 sales rather than try to spread it thin everywhere.

        • Yen

Well, they got the day one million sale that they were so proud of. So it definitely worked for them.

    • Jaymes Deen

I thought the article was to show that the PS4 is not doing as “great” as everyone makes it out to be. Yes better than the U, but not great by the hype it set.

      • John Andalora

I suppose my issue is that whether or not a console does better or worse in a region doesn’t matter. Why does it honestly matter if the Wii U did better in Japan in its first three weeks than the PS4? I suppose some people will say that both consoles come from Japan so it shows what Japan likes, but I’d prefer to look at global sales over regional sales. Some regions, oddly enough, might not reflect how well or how poor the console as a whole is doing.

  • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

Because the Wii U is just better. *cough* and cheaper…

  • Rodger_Ramjet

Yep, surprise-surprise. It’s no surprise at all considering the weak launch titles and no games of worthing note. The WiiU/PS4 battle in Japan will be close. WiiU is without doubt the best machine of the 3

    • oontz

Without a doubt in your opinion maybe.

  • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

    Screw smartphones.

  • Magnus Eriksson

PS4 is built for a much longer timeframe than Wii U. This should be taken into account as well…

  • Tim Hart

think it was 10 mill for ps2 at 6 month and 12 mill for wii at same time. not certain on that but worth waiting till 6 month mark to the figures.

  • Nintendoro

This can’t be bad for Wii U. XO will launch in there soon and sales aren’t going to be even close to Wii U launch sales. Looks like system can survive there after all. Only time will show

  • tom

So in other words, the Wii U is doing great in Japan but underperforming for rest of the world.

    • oontz

8000 units a week is hardly great, it’s still being outsold by other platforms week after week

      • tom

Correct. But when you compare the first 3 weeks according this article the Wii U has a much stronger launch in Japan. However in the rest of the world the launch for the Wii U was much weaker.

        • oontz

          Pre Holiday > Post Holiday.

The numbers need to be taken in context with the time the consoles launched. Which were very different.

          • tom

Thats a good point. However When you compare System A Vs System B at launch ( the first 3 weeks) The Wii U comes out on top. It does not mean the PS4 will not surpass the Wii U in the future. Perhaps Sony should have release the PS4 during the holidays as well.

  • 504HotBoy

Until Sony get some AAA Japanese titles in Japan. PS4 sales will continue to decline over there. I’m 100% sure sales will spike back up with the release of Final Fantasy XV & Kingdom Hearts 3. But I think those titles won’t be released till 2015. They’re still making a killing in other regions (US & Europe). People predicted they would surpass the Wii U sales in Japan in a few months based on how well they did in US & Europe. But in reality it will be a while before they catch up to Wii U sales in Japan. Although they surpassed the Wii U globally in 4 Months.

    • Yen

What I find amusing is, that’s exactly what a lot of people said about the Wii U when it had problems in its first year after the initial launch. That it has no games, that Wii U will make a come back once the big games come out, that most console don’t do too well after the initial launch, that only select fans buy consoles at launch. Now there’s news that PS4′s launch month isn’t as stellar in Japan as the rest of the world, the same talk came back. In just this article’s comments you see people saying PS4 has no games yet, that it’ll catch up as soon as the big titles come out, that most consoles don’t do well at launch. I’m not saying PS4 didn’t do amazing at launch in the rest of the world. What I am saying is, this proves that Wii U still has a lot of life left. Just because another console had a more successful launch doesn’t mean Wii U is dead or doomed or anything.

      • 504HotBoy

Exactly and people were so quick and still being so quick to ride the Wii U off and it’s only been out for 16 months. If it was 30 months are more and doing poorly, then I could understand, but it’s only been out for less than a 1 year and a half. It has been selling pretty well compared to last year as it manage to move 100k in the month of February. It may not be as much as Microsoft & Sony moved, but it’s still selling nevertheless. Im glad it’s doing well in Japan. As im more into Japanese games than western games. It’s nearly at 2 million units(1.7mill to be exact) sold in Japan. So we should start seeing more Japanese titles being made for it.

        • Jon Turner

This. WiiU is nowhere NEAR dead. If it was then why are we seeing games coming for it?

    • Marcus Larsson

I believe we Will tell a different story in 10 months.
The ps4 doesnt have three games releasing in a year that is worth a thought, it has 10-20

      • 504HotBoy

Maybe, it’s possible if they can get some of the popular Japanese titles to release consistently back to back on PS4, sales will start booming in Japan. There’s not a lot of high profile Japanese titles that are scheduled to hit in 2014 for PS4 though. Next year will be different as they have several games to hit and I’m sure there are some games that will be announced at this year E3 & TGS, that we don’t know about yet. It’s has to be PS4 exclusives though and not available for PS3. Because that will just get people who own a PS3 to buy the PS3 version and skip the PS4 version, if they don’t have the system. Remember Japan is a lot different from the western markets. They’re not obsessed with specs and won’t just buy a new system for a game, if it’s already available on a system they currently own. 2 of the most wanted PS4 games in Japan in 2015. That’s Final Fantasy XV & Kingdom Hearts 3 and they will definetly push more units. Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain may release next year or 2016. But it’s also a most wanted game Wii U has 3 most wanted games to release in Japan this year. Mario Kart 8 (which is the 2nd most wanted game behind Persona 5 for PS3), Super Smash Bros. & Hyrule Warriors. All Scheduled for 2014 release, which should push more units when they release.

        • Marcus Larsson

Japan is 10-15% of the market and is not the place to focus the marketing strategy for.
And i dont think hyrule warriors Will push a lot of consoles, maybe some in Japan but thats it.
Ps4 exclusives in Japan Will come, all those games we dont see in the rest of the world, so it Will probably sell tons those days.
          Japan loves Sony and Nintendo.

          • 504HotBoy

Very true. Since the 7th gen of gaming Japan went downhill and Western markets have more of a percentage on the markets now. But I was talking about the Japanese market. When I was speaking on most wanted games. I’m a big fan of the Japanese market. Which is why I want to see them more successful in Japan than anywhere else. I’m not to fond of western games. That’s just my preference. I really think western developers oversaturated the market in the 7th gen with too many shooters. I really miss the years from the 3rd gen to 6th gen when Japan dominated. Castlevania, Shinobi, Metroid, Grandia, Ecco the Dolphin, Ninja Gaiden, Sonic, Mario, Nights, Zelda, Resident Evil, Onimusha, Final Fantasy, Silent Hill, Skies Of Arcadia, Tales (series), Streets Of Rage, Legend Of Oasis, Wild Arms, Devil May Cry, etc. The list goes on and on. I miss the days where these games dominated the charts. It could be because im more into single player story-driven games as well and don’t like multiplayer and online games. Dude I really hate most western developers. Hopefully one day gaming can get back to being more diverse and creative. Instead of all these shooters and guns and crime spree games.

          • Marcus Larsson

I hate shoot em ups as well but love action/adventure games.

          • 504HotBoy

I’m a big fan of RPG(mainly JRPG), Adventure, Action, Platformers, & Survival Horror games.

  • InterTreble

So, if Wii U is a fail, what PS4 is? Sony fanboys can tell all the stories they like, but in Japan PS4 is already doomed. No games, no sells. Japanese people don’t buy 400$ of a piece of furniture as we do in the West, puzzled by ads and “fashion”. PS4 is totaly useless at now, with no exclusive, with all its games playable also in an old PS3, and Japanese people know that.

    • Brandon

Ps4 is not doomed in japan, its just going to take time for the Japanese exclusive games to start rolling out. The ps4 is not useless, im having a great time with it already, and yes I know you can get most of its games else where. But Ps4 youre getting all games from next gen and pc exclusive to some of the console exclusives.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Pay no mind to him. He does this often whenever these sorts of articles come about. You can tell he reeks of fanboyism. ;P

      • InterTreble

Have you and the troll called Daniel read the words “at now” in my comment? I do not suppose so, especially him, who is a perfect ignorant.

    • oontz

Don’t you own a ps4? You’ve said before you own a wiiu and ps4. Were you just talking shit ?

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Uhm….considering his track record oontz, I think he talks a lot of that often. That post comes as no surprise.

      • InterTreble

Where in the hell I told you this? Please, stop putting what you like in people’s mouth… Unbelieveble… And this explains many things about you and Daniel, many things.

  • Leo

Besides a slightly graphic enhancement from the PS3 there is just no point to get a PS4. Its more of the same and PS3 is still doing fairly well.

    • oontz

“Besides a slightly graphic enhancement from the PS3″

You obviously don’t own a PS3 or a PS4, if this is THE comparison you came up with.

  • God804

My local kmart had the mario wii u deluxe bundle on sale for 260 .What a great bargain for me to pick up just in time. Tomorrow I will pick up mario 3dworld, call of duty ghosts, and pikmin 3.

    • Nintendoro

welcome to the club friend !!!

      • God804

        Thankyou appreciate it.

    • oontz

      SM3DW is great fun.

      • David Trail

Something Wii agree on lol ; )

        • oontz

I have always loved Nintendo games… doesn’t mean I also don’t love other games as well, on other platforms.

      • God804

Thanks will be picking it up today.

  • DragonSilths

To the people who talk about the Wii not selling fast at launch, you seem to have forgotten a key factor…shortage of supply you couldn’t find one for 6 damn months if you didn’t pre-order. The demand was there, the supply was not.

    • oontz

You talking about wii or wiiu?

      • DragonSilths

I read comments where people said the PS4 was the fastest selling console, some said Wii was, then they said but the Wii wasnt, then what I said comes into play.

        • oontz

Okay cool… not sure which is the fastest, But PS4 was the first to sell a million in one day, in one region.

          • DragonSilths

Again, if the supply was there for the Wii it would have to.

          • oontz

Most likely but Nintendo wanted to launch in multiple regions at once, instead of focusing on just one region like Sony did.

  • thedeciderU

bitch bitch moan moan 1-up 1-up troll troll >>> shuts down laptop, goes back to enjoying video games

    • oontz

Ha ha this made me laugh. Nice one.

  • oontz

One console launched pre Holiday rush… The other launched post holiday rush.

    • nexxus6

How big is Christmas shopping in Japan? The holiday season would be a better excuse if this article referenced North American sales. You could make the argument that at the holidays, there are a lot more sales and products that people could spend their money on besides video game consoles. Also, are you inferring all PS4 gamers have to get their systems purchased for them as Christmas gifts? Gasp, you don’t think PS4 users are all kids do you?

  • Cody McKrell

Yes, pay no mind to the man behind the curtain screaming about holiday seasons and the fact that most households dont just randomly buy new and expensive tech throughout the year just because it’s out. This is a total win for wiiu and not a sad and dramatic reaching for a small bit of inconsequencial victory at all.

Leave it to the japanese to see value where no one else does, right guys?

  • Relick

When will people realise that the amount the WiiU sells is irrelevant to its success, but instead how much profit they make off of it?

    • oontz

Maybe “irrelevant to its success” but not Nintendo’s public image. Also aren’t they (Nintendo) taking a loss now on every wiiu sold after the price cut?

      • Relick

They were always taking a loss before the ‘price cut’ although it isn’t really a price cut in that it was for a holiday bundle in one country.

        • oontz

Nintendo officially dropped the price of the wiiu

  • oontz

Since when is wiiudaily providing its users news of what IGN is talking about. Has this site finally become igndaily? A place to get all the IGN news for wiiu in one feed… and most importantly and interesting is that you forgot to add the final quote from the article you borrowed.

“Will PlayStation 4 rebound? Almost certainly”

    • Daniel Gonzalez

What did you expect? This is common practice for WiiUDaily. They don’t wanna rile up the demographic of their site.

  • starwars360

Funny I remember since Wii U’s launched in Japan and trolls keeping said PS4 will beats Wii U but no it is not!!! Hahahahahaha

PS4′s beat Wii U in Western but not Japan and Asia. :)

    • oontz

You must not live in Asia then. Perception is a wonderful thing.

  • palomino blue

It will be interesting to see a comparison a few months out. Give Sony a little time to get some decent games out there. Thanks for putting these numbers together. I really like looking at them side by side.

  • WiiUPS43DS

Well at least Wii U is doing awesome in Japan

    • oontz

32,000 units a month is not awesome. There is no way to sugar coat it.

      • WiiUPS43DS

        Im not…Just saying

  • Connor

I think that Nintendo really has a more sustainable market strategy than its competitors despite what short-term sales numbers suggest. I feel like Sony is taking a bigger risk trying to appeal to American consumers. We have the attention spans of flies.

“I feel like Sony is taking a bigger risk trying to appeal to American consumers.”

America is the largest region for the entire Video game market. You think a company shouldn’t try to appeal to the largest demographic of consumers that are going to buy your product? That makes zero sense.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t, obviously money is great for the company. I just see them trying to follow more in the vein of Microsoft, which I really don’t like.

Oh my god could it be? Is there actually a market which actually realizes the stupidity of spending 400 on a new console to play games already out for the ps3?

    • Marcus Larsson

Wish somebody told everyone that about Nintendos 350 dollar console one year ago ;)

      • David Lein

I don’t own a wii u or any current gen console. My ps3 still has something called games and I am not going to shell 350 for Mario or to play games already out on pS3 and pretend the ps4 has games.

        • Marcus Larsson

          Good for you :)

“and pretend the ps4 has games”

Wait a minute… the ps4 doesn’t have games?? What are these things I am playing on my ps4 then if they aren’t games? They look and play like games…. interesting.

Nice sarcastic comment, doesn’t change the fact that most games ps4 fanboys buy hundreds of copies for are already out on the PS3. It’s fact, you have a better gaming experience replaying “Last of Us, GTA 5 , and LA Noire on your PS3.

It’s also a fact I beat all the games a long time ago some more than once. Not to mention the gaming experiences I’ve been having on my PS4 are great and just as enjoyable/amazing in my opinion as what I experienced on PS3.

well that’s fair in sense, I am just waiting for an inevitable price drop and at the time, better games will come out.

Where’s my TEKKEN and RIDGE RACER for PS4. It’s a tradition. WIPEOUT too. :)

At least Wii U got Tekken.
