Renegade Kid’s Cult County now targeting Wii U

cult_country_logo_header

When Mutant Mudd’s developer Renegade Kid first announced Cult County, it was as a Nintendo 3DS title. Now that the Kickstarter for the game is live, it looks like the Nintendo 3DS platform has been abandoned and in its place, we find the developer is now targeting release on the Wii U, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Currently the game has a $580,000 goal to reach within the next 29 days.

As for the game itself, it’s a first person survival horror game that features exploration and episodic content, similar to how Telltale has delivered The Walking Dead over the past few years. According to the developer, the game will focus on memorable character interactions with a story driven by tension, mystery, and scares. Here are a few of the highlighted features from the Kickstarter page:

  • Rebirth of the survival horror FPS genre, crafted with fan input.
  • Story-driven gameplay, featuring memorable character interactions.
  • Small West Texas town filled with tension, mystery, and scares.
  • Vulnerable and personalized melee and firearm combat.
  • Varied cast of creepy enemy encounters and devious boss battles.

If you’re interested in checking out the pitch video for the Kickstarter, you can find it below. We’ve reached out to the developer for an interview to discuss the Wii U version of the game, so keep checking back for more information!

No. Just no. Seriously, this looks like the worst idea ever, and besides, the Wii U is the worst console for this type of game.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheMwgly Mwgly

      explain.

      • Josiah Parsons

The sales volume of ZombiU shows that Wii U fans really aren’t into this kind of game. Mix in cults and all sorts of junk? it just goes downhill from there.

    • RyuNoHadouken

Wii U is the best console for FPSH!! The gamepad alone proves that

      • David Troll

        PS4 controller > Wii U gamepad lol!

      • Josiah Parsons

True, but I think the themes exhibited in this title are counter to the likes of a majority of Nintendo’s fans.

        • RyuNoHadouken

probably…Nintendo needs to drop the kiddie image…its seriously hurting them

          • Josiah Parsons

Still, you can drop the kiddie image without making gory horrific questionably-themed games. Just sayin.

          • RyuNoHadouken

true, but “hardcore” gamers dont buy Nintendo because they know third parties who make those gory horrific games wont develop for them…and most gamers these days want horsepower

    • NyallJodhan

You should try ZombiU and then re-examine this statement.

      • thedeciderU

i need to play through again…

      • thedeciderU

but i need surround sound first!

        • NyallJodhan

Man, the game is already so scarily immersive, you want to add surround sound?! LOL, hope you have a good heart!

          • thedeciderU

yes it is. i’m up for the challenge. if i get a better sound system i will be silent hilling it up (1, 2, and 3). that will really test my nerves. i could also throw resident evil (1, 4, code veronica) into the mix. i love those games.

          • thedeciderU

i’d really like to play outlast at some point too, but i don’t have a ps4…yet.

          • NyallJodhan

Heh, you try with that! I’m playing ZombiU like the biggest chicken around. And I know those things are not real. Haven’t had nightmares thankfully, though that might be because I don’t dream.

        • tomtank91

plug in a headset in the gamepad and I guarantee you’ll sh*t yourself.

          • thedeciderU

            i can’t wait. i love doing that.

      • Josiah Parsons

I’m really not into horror, and judging by the sales volume for ZombiU the rest of the Wii U community isn’t either. Also, mixing in cults just makes it worse.

        • NyallJodhan

I’m not sure how badly ZombiU is doing. Ubisoft would know this better, I suppose. But from leaderboard rankings, it seems as if sales stand at roughly 375k. That seems like a lot to me considering it’s mostly a western game release.

          • Petri

VGChartz claims sales of about 650k, should be fairly accurate as far as retail sales go, since its a old game.
Though they can not track digital sales, so I would expect it to be even higher.

    • Googs

You seem to be missing the part where this is also coming to all other consoles + PC.

      • Josiah Parsons

True. It’ll just sell better on those platforms.

    • bistricky

Look we got the authority on what type of game can be made on the Wii U ….. cause all Wii U users are all the same and we never play FPS and horror-themed games …. this would explain why this game is “the worst idea ever” and why the Wii U is the worst console for this “TYPE” of game ….. seriously?

    • steveb944

      /sarcasm?

      • Josiah Parsons

Nope. Check out my other reply posts.

    • Superstick98

I have to agree with you there… I’m guessing a majority of Wii U fans don’t really play these. I’m kind of to blame for it too. Lol. I can’t even play Slender. No way I’m getting this. XD But then again, there were a decent amount of people who liked Zombi U, (Another game I wouldn’t dare play.)

      • Josiah Parsons

Thank you someone who shares my views. Nintendo Network friends? My username is TallHobbit

  • RecheDiazrivarola

If at an attractive price purchased it. i play dementium and its ok.

    • Hopper200456

      I loved Dementium!

  • http://www.17bits.cl/ IronicSonic

    Episodic content? NO. Just no.

    • steveb944

That worries me as well, especially due to potential short length.

      • tomtank91

ever played the walking dead series? Length is good

    • Kyle

I know, I have to wait months to play like 1h of the walking dead :(

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Yet, it sells. Of course, that’s due to the TV series as popular as it is.

        • Kyle

the telltale’s TWD story is really even better than the show’s AND the comics’s o_o

      • Petri

Yes, I scour each episode as good as I can, because I dont want it to be over that fast.

    • sillybajillies

great storytelling tactic, it builds suspense. if they price it at maybe $3 per episode I think it’ll do well. I think this is an interesting way to release games. TV shows always leave us at a cliffhanhanger as we await the next episode, so people might just be on the edge of their seats and ready to buy the next episode as soon as it comes out.

      • Petri

I havent really trusted episodic games since SIN episodes…
Not really that great of a game, but I wanted to see rest of the story.
It is sad that they can cancel the rest of the game, just because the first episode did not do as they expected.
TT Walking Dead has brought my faith up a bit, but still not all in for episodic games yet.

    • Andrew Chambers

Is $20 too much for a game with at least 6 hours of gameplay? I saw how Moon was set up, this will be similar.

  • TheRealTruthTeller

God damnit i wanted the game to be 3DS/Wii U Exclusive

    • Carlos Webster

What about the PS4? It’s great, too.

    • tomtank91

why? The game was gonna be 3DS only, at least now everyone will get a chance to play it. Plus it’ll be alot better

      • J_Joestar

almost everyone, 3DS version was dropped,

        • tomtank91

Well yeah, but if your only gaming device is a 3DS it’s time to invest. People who own a 3DS really should get a Wiiu or Playstation.

  • GeeFourThree

The trailer really has me interested in this, I would like to see this come out on the Wii U.

  • DragonSilths

Shame on you Renegade Kid. Though I never bought their games before, and I still wont.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Shame on them how? Care to elaborate?

      • DragonSilths

Changing what was once a 3DS exclusive to making it a multiplat.

        • J_Joestar

multiplat is fine, it is more the issue of dropping the original platform for the game >_<

          • Andrew Chambers

At least it makes sense. They wanted to use Unity and the 3DS doesn’t have it. This allows them to release it multiplat a lot easier.

  • thedeciderU

sounds like i want this game!

  • gamingpalooza

finally something interesting on the wii u that i can finally buy for wii u.

    • David Trail

Did you get SM3DW, Pikmin 3, DKC TF, Wonderful 101, Sonic Lost World, Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, Game and Wario, Mario and Sonic, Zombi U, Nintendo Land, Lego City Under Cover, Monster Hunter Ultimate, NSMBU/ New Luigi Bros U, Wii Sports Club, NES REMIX, Dr Luigi, Tekken Wii U Edition, Zelda Wind Waker HD?

Mario Kart 8 out next month!!!!!

      • tomtank91

you forgot the only horror game wii u has, Zombi U. I’m with gamingpalooza, he’s basically saying something completely different is coming which is a good thing. Especially a 1st person horror game.

        • Chronicle x

          You forgot RE: Revalations

          • tomtank91

I didn’t, Resi evil has lost it’s scare. Hopefully Capcom will wake up and bring back survival horror

          • Chronicle x

It is actually pretty frightening, more than 6 and 5. Plus it isn’t any b list action movies anymore.

      • David Troll

Wario Fart 8 out next month!!!!!

  • Daniel Gonzalez

Looks good. I have a thing for survival horror. I’ll get it on PS3 or PS4.

  • Mithiragi

Finally got a PS4. Looks like I’m set for this gen.

    • Donaald

What games are you playing on the PS4?

      • David Trail

Nothing special. Uncharted isn’t out till 2015 at the earliest.

        • Mithiragi

          Infamous seems pretty good.

      • Mithiragi

I got Knack because it was only 30 bucks and I’m getting Tomb Raider (didn’t play the one on PS3 and Xbox 360) and Infamous soon. Knack isn’t as bad as reviewers say it is. It’s just hard to get used to the combat. Although it is a little repetitive at times.

    • David Trail

The blue light on the PS4 controller looks so silly lol!

      • David Troll

blue light > Wii U gamepad lmao!

        • Mithiragi

They’re both great systems. No need for fanboying.

    • Blue Hernandez

Nice! I went with X1 and Wii U to start this gen, but I’m definitely getting a PS4 this year.

  • Donaald

    Looks promising

  • Adam Fox

First thing that I think of when I see this is Texas Chainsaw Massacre for some reason…..the classic ones which were great…..but, i like the video they have up :)

  • Rodger_Ramjet

I bought a WiiU at launch. I was set this gen ages ago
