Hex Heroes has been successfully funded

April has been a long month for the team at Prismatic Games, who spent the month drumming up support for their RTS game for the Wii U. We first learned of the project back in March and soon we covered the launch of the Kickstarter, as well as going an interview with the developers to discern the direction of the game. The Wii U GamePad has always felt like it would be perfect for translating an RTS game to a console and thanks to your funding efforts, that will now happen.

The team reached the $80k goal with just a few hours left to go, with the final Kickstarter closing at $86k funding. It wasn’t enough to meet any of the stretch goals that the team laid out, but with the initial funding under their belt you can expect to see more updates from the team as the game gets made. Congrats to everyone who backed, you’re helping bring a Wii U exclusive title to fruition!

I understand Kickstarters are to help developers make games, but is there any return for the funders? Just curious.

Not a monetary return. You might get featured as a character or get a unique pet or something.

It depends on much you pledged and what were the rewards for the amount you pledged.

The only one that I’ve seen to have potential return is Project Cars which is facing government issues on that aspect because of their local laws.

All other projects are you pledging at a certain level and getting a pre set reward, e.g. DLC, posters, soundtracks, etc.

In many cases you’ll receive a copy for the game and often that’s cheaper than actually buying the game. Not always, but sometimes. For instance you pledge like 20 bucks for a game that can probably cost something like 30bucks when it’s released and get a digital copy for sure. Sure you never know how much the game is actually going to cost, but at least getting the full game when it’s finished is quite some good reason to put that money into it.

There are “kickbacks”, usually you get a copy of the game with some exclusive features. For Hex Heroes, I’ve essentially preordered a copy of the game and got access to exclusive “wacky” features that will allow me to make custom games with strange effects.

That’s cool! Makes a lot more sense that millions of dollars go into these Kickstarters every year lol.
        Thanks for the replies everyone.

Well, I was about 10 minutes too late with deciding to fund it, sucks for me.

    • Kaihaku

I believe that they’re still accepting pledges via paypal.

I note that WiiUDaily was by far the last of the sites covering the Wii U news that ran this new story. Again. All other sites had updates on this almost instantly. It’s clear that it’s of more interest to this site to cover what NOT happens to the Wii U than to cover what actually happens.

I get the notion that this is a part time effort for the writers. They must have other jobs too. It is not the best fro breaking news but is nice for a US perspective from time to time. Lots of Nintendo sites seem to be in the UK.
