British actor Bob Hoskins has passed away due to complications of pneumonia. He was 71 and while he was remembered for greater roles than that of his portrayal of Mario in the Super Mario Bros. movie, it is one of his most famous roles considering how unpopular the movie eventually was. Hoskins himself hated his part in the movie and publicly stated it was the worst decision he could have made in his career.
The worst thing I ever did? Super Mario Brothers. It was a f****** nightmare. The whole experience was a nightmare. It had a husband-and-wife team directing, whose arrogance had been mistaken for talent. After so many weeks their own agent told them to get off the set! F****** nightmare. F****** idiots.
Hoskins was the last actor alive to have portrayed Mario in a live action capacity, as Lou Albano from the Mario TV show passed away a few years ago at the age of 76.
