Today’s Nintendo Direct will not have a Smash Bros. release date

logo-sb-wii

With the excitement surrounding the Nintendo Direct today at 5pm EST, many people were hoping we would see an official announcement in regards to the release date for the game. Unfortunately that won’t be happening, as confirmed by a tweet from Nintendo of Japan. Nintendo of America later mirrored the sentiment, saying that Nintendo hopes everyone is excited to learn about the launch window.

A launch window means we’ll likely know what quarter Nintendo plans on launching the game in, but not the specific month or even the date. Don’t be too disappointed when the Direct airs, since we knew a date wasn’t coming. What do you want to see most from the Direct this afternoon?

  • Yousif Alromaithi

A release date and a new character. Also new Modes.

    • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

For a direct that’s solely for Smash Bros, I wanna see 3 or 4 new character reveals ;P

      • Yousif Alromaithi

I want chrono to be the new character. Shulk and Snake too.

        • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

          chrono…?

          • Yousif Alromaithi

They did not add them what pissed me off Wii U comes later.

  • Jacob Bulkley

I hope it’s not another “please understand”. I’d like to see it come out for Christmas, and see what it can do for Wii U sales.

  • WiiUisgaming

    Hope it comes Q2 2014

  • palomino blue

I’d personally like to hear about their plans for online play. I don’t have very high expectations for leader boards, tournaments, and things like that but I would be really happy to see what they’re doing.

  • ZeldaFan83

I would like to see things completely new to Smash Bros that isn’t a new character or stage or item, that’s just boring. I want something that hasn’t been done in a previous installment of the series, something that’s a game changer…

    • Trevor

They’ve already announced some mechanical changes. Things like edge-guarding and repeated A combos have been tweaked.

      • ZeldaFan83

Yes but that’s not ground breaking. Its still the same gameplay mechanics that have always been there for the most part. The series needs something new and fresh which is why Namco Bandai is developing the game.

        • famous_wolf

          Custom movesets.

    • rafael

      they will have fatalitys now…

      • ZeldaFan83

        OMG….my brain just imploded.

  • Miguel Angel Barrueta Hernánde

I hope for more infor about the game(modes, stages, online, etc), the release quarter if possible, but i like the new characters announcements on miiverse/smashbros.com

  • Seth S. Scott

I think it comes on at 6 ET not 5?

    • Jon

      3pm Pacific / 6pm Eastern / 11pm UK / midnight (9th April) in mainland Europe and 8am AEST (9th April) in Australia.

      copied from Nintendo life

so yes, you are right :P

  • Capt. Smoker

so this basically means “we’re pushing it back like we do all our games”, who knows what goes on inside them boardrooms, shambles of a company…

    • Yen

I rather it be delayed and good than early and crap. Plus there will be Mario Kart til Smash comes out.

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

Mario Kart is good and fine, but that’s probably 5 or 6 months between the two. I’d probably be done hardcore playing Mario Kart within a few months

        • Yen

Hmm we’ll have to see, 5 to 6 months will only be if they wait til the holiday season which they can do. I’m fine with that because I got other games to play too.

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

true, and so do I. But this is pretty late for something that was mentioned at launch

          • Yen

Haha I think I replied to another comment too soon. Long comment short, yea they mentioned it at launch, but they also mentioned that they had only just started developing at launch. Putting it out in 2 years sounds pretty nice to me.

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

I suppooooose…. I guess I just feel like this game should’ve been ready sooner, considering how long it’s been since brawl

          • Yen

I’m sure you’re not the only one. I do remember that Sakurai had announced after Melee that he wasn’t planning on making anymore Smash Bros. Then when Wii was announced I think Iwata or someone talked him into making Brawl. I guess that’s why I’m glad any Smash Bros are being made at all. Of course, it’s a money maker, so Nintendo would’ve tried to make it even if Sakurai didn’t want to.

        • Magnus Eriksson

3 games in one year… Thats about the same as Dreamcast had… last year.

      • Capt. Smoker

I would rather they had been prepared and hired more people to work on their games, only a fanboy would happily settle for less

        • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

I sadly have to agree. They weren’t prepared for this. They overestimated themselves and it’s hurting them big time

          • Capt. Smoker

They rarely ever are unfortunately, they make great games yet I don’t think I’ve ever seen them expand as a company all that much since they entered the gaming market, unlike Sony who seem to go from strength to strength to please their fans and developers.

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

Eh… I’ve seen them grow. They’re just doing it way too slowly. their pride is holding them back. They’re slowly letting go of that pride, but they need to listen to consumers more than they listen to themselves sometimes

          • Yen

See, I don’t agree. It’s not that they weren’t prepared for this game particularly. The development for Smash 4 only started after Kid Icarus was released. That gave them only two years so far to develop both versions of this game. I wasn’t expecting this game until 2015 honestly. When they first revealed the trailer and mentioned 2014 I was surprised. I guess maybe I set my expectations lower than everyone else?

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

You must’ve. I expected this game to be in development before the Wii U was even announced.

          • Magnus Eriksson

            Yup, again…

          • HerpDerpstreit

This happens quite a bit in the games industry but let’s all be real here. It’s easier top notice and point the finger at Nintendo because they’ve been making mistake after mistake.

It is the snowball effect. You mess up bad enough at the beginning it will have effects on everything that follows. I honestly can’t remember when SSB4 was announced but as an example of another company making a similar/worse mistake. I would like to refer to Ubisoft with Watch_Dogs. Shown originally at E3 2012. Since then we’ve been exposed to delays and a roller coaster of visual quality. And let’s not get started on the double standard they have created with WD and Rayman.

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

yeah, watch dogs is another good example too :/

        • SinkyChan

This is the dumbest comment I’ve ever seen. “Only a fanboy would be willing to wait patiently instead of bitching and moaning like a 10 year old kid.”

          You’re dumb. Lmao.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Calm down pot. Not nice calling the kettle black. ;P

          • SinkyChan

? That doesn’t even apply here Lmao

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Accusing one of being dumb, while making a dumb comment back that proves his point of fanboys. It certainly applies here. ;P

          • SinkyChan

? I didn’t prove his point at all? Lmao. He is saying that being a Fanboy implies not complaining and going “enh, shit happens. Life goes on.” That makes zero sense.

You, as well, are also not making any sense. But when you have 10 idiots vs. someone who’s not a backwards reject, I guess the idiots win.

            #lolpolitics

          • Daniel Gonzalez

If 10 people are against you, it has something to do with that one person’s intelligence. If you weren’t a fanboy, you wouldn’t need to resort to insults now would you? Good job contradicting your own argument. Hmmm….David Trail? ;P

          • SinkyChan

Not posting as a Fanboy. tbh… if they came out tomorrow and cancelled Smash Bros all together, it’d suck, but I got bigger fish to fry than the latest Nintendo game. I mean Fanboy in general. It’s pretty much the same as “Hipster”. People just take it, say what they want about it, and it becomes an insult…

When the truth is the ones spouting it out are the ones who look like fucking morons tbh. I’m not speaking for myself, I’m just saying he sounds like a fool, and tbh I get you’re doing the whole “lol ur such a bully let me put u in ur place” but you also sound dumb. Sry.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Not at all. I’m giving you my honest opinion. If I see a poster calling someone dumb or idiotic, then what does that make them? Certainly the same. If you’re going to bring up the bully routine, the same can be said about you. Works both ways. There’s easier ways to disagree than to insult. At least, it’s not that hard for me to do. ;P

          • WiiUltra

You replied to him 4 times and talked bad about him. It looks like you were more offended and had a bigger “reaction” than he did.

          • Graeme Lynch

Can we please find another adjective for ‘dumb’?

          • Jon

            you dumb you’re are sir.

            lol

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            sir are you’re dumb you

            lol

          • Magnus Eriksson

            But he is 100% right.

          • SinkyChan

I don’t think being a FanBoy means not complaining and crying over a video-game not coming out A.S.A.P. I’m not a FanBoy, and when a game gets postponed, I just go “Oh. Well that sucks. I guess I’ll do all the other things in life I can do until that day.” because I’m fucking 23, not 13.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Nah, didnt mean that he was right that you was a fanboy. The other stuff.

          • Capt. Smoker

You come across more like this, than 23…..

          • SinkyChan

            I’m not that chubby, sry.

          • Shota

            XD attack on titan

          • Capt. Smoker

            What a reaction lol

          • Daniel Gonzalez

My thoughts exactly. Though, people are easily offended.

          • Capt. Smoker

Very easily offended, not like I refered anything to him or anything lol I must have hit a sensitive nerve

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Quite. I have no idea whether he’s a true fanboy or not, but his reactions certainly are spot on.

          • Shota

it’s kinda true. that’s what most fanboys these days are

        • Gameonfool

They don’t settle for less, they settle for a finished five star game.

          • Capt. Smoker

Oh….. is that what DK TF was?, I never noticed

          • SinkyChan

There’s “Fanboys” and then there’s whiny bitches who aren’t satisfied no matter what but continue to pour their money into it. Lmao.

          • Capt. Smoker

Meh, I only buy games that appeal to me lol unless it’s for my little one, I never got these buy to support the company and developer sort of gamers, DK was terrible lol

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Well, I’m glad I don’t pour my hard earned money into just any game. Perhaps you see those people as whiny bitches, but that’s how the industry evolves. Need criticism to better your products. They can be annoying, but they have their purpose as well. Everything in life, has a double-edged sword. We’d have to be fools to think otherwise.

          • TheRealTruthTeller

Prisu Undertandu, we presen to you, a new Zerda Taitu Desu

      • FutureFox

I’d rather they just forget making early release date/release window announcements and just say, “XYZ game coming in the future.”

At this point they might well go ahead and have store shelves secretly stocked with upcoming games ahead of time then make a release announcement.

    • CydeFxt

I don’t think the game ever had a release date so how could they be pushing it back?

      • Capt. Smoker

it was supposed to be early this year, doubt we’ll see it before September now

        • CydeFxt

Relax Cap, you’ll be playing Smash Bros before you know it!

          • Capt. Smoker

I hope so, not before Mario kart though ^__________^

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

This just made me cancel my preorder. I’ll have the money by the time it comes out. I don’t need it preordered. There is literally NO incentive to preorder it.

I’m still getting the game, no doubt. But my preorder just isn’t necessary at this point.

    • Jon

I did that with my Mario Kart 8 game when I started seeing the special things for it in Japan, EU, and Australia. Sadly nothing for NA yet.

      • WiiUPS43DS

Hey jon friend me on the Wii U deafswin77

    • WiiUPS43DS

Hey when Mario cart 8 comes out id love to play against ya..but friend me if you want on the Wii U deafswin77

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

Not sure if I’ll be getting it right away. Otherwise I would :3

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

also, 20 bucks says it gets delayed like brawl did

    • Jon

that would be a bad bet to take…. we all know you’ll win. lol

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

        I never win :P

    • Trevor

I’ll take that bet. I don’t think they are delaying it.

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

I’m mainly basing it off the fact that they delayed brawl 3 times

        • greengecko007

Brawl was delayed so many times my local newspaper had a comic strip on it…

  • Mario

    Please be released in summer.

  • kali

No surprise Nintendo’s been dissapointing all year. Months between games no simple feature like voice chat in mario kart 8. Now get hyped for a game we’ve been showing all year but no release date. Prolly be mostly 3ds anyway.

    • thedeciderU

bahahahaaa sent from my wiiu gamepad

  • ActivesiN

way to kill the hype before the direct Nintendo

    • GamesByXerron

A clever strategy, actually. Would you rather have super-inflated expectations only to be let down, or have a deflated expectation only to be surprised?

      • Yen

Keep your expectations low so that no matter what happens it’ll always be a good thing.

        • ActivesiN

          thats depressing

          • Blue Hernandez

            and so so true.

      • Mayoo

Except nobody has any expectation since Nintendo is trolling us with daily images that shows progress. The only surprise I would get is surprise newcomers like, I don’t know, Marvel characters, Square characters, changing their mind about cinematics, mobile spinoff, etc.

      • Graeme Lynch

Um aren’t the directions always a deflated ego of Nintendo?

    • Trevor

      I’m still hyped.

      • ActivesiN

I don’t get hyped, I stay hyped – Mojo Rawley

    • Kyle

    • InterTreble

Not really. They said they will give the period. It’s almost the same, and still makes hype.

      • ActivesiN

almost the same isnt as good, if the window is something like june-july thats fine but if they say fall 2014….well we already knew that

        • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

          My thoughts exactly indeed.

        • Magnus Eriksson

          3 months :(

    • WiiUPS43DS

      Agreed

  • Dark-Link73

While at first I was deeply disappointed that they won’t announce an actual release date, I’ve come to terms with it. I’ll be playing, dreaming, craving, hating, loving, and simply addicted to Mario Kart 8 until then.

  • ETeach

Glad WiiU daily is here to prep me for the direct. It would’ve been a lot worse to hear it from Iwata this afternoon. Now I can just shrug it off and get back to expecting good news.

  • CydeFxt

Man, you people can’t be satisfied. How is it that a launch window isn’t good enough? What difference does it make if they say 3rd quarter 2014 or August 26 2014? Yeesh, I’m just happy that they won’t deliver a broken piece of shit like many other devs do.

I’m looking forward to this ND and Smash Bros. I have plenty of games to keep me busy till then.

    • thedeciderU

if there were any other games coming, and we knew anything about when to expect them, this wouldn’t be such a shitter for most people, myself included.

i bought a wiiu expecting regular game releases. now, while i’m excited for a couple of the upcoming games, i’m not into all of them, at least at this point. it’s the regular release schedule that needs work, and nintendo really fucked up and looks like they’re continuing at the same snail pace they were at launch. maybe they’ll announce some games coming soon at e3, but they’re too late to create any kind of hype. they’re not advertising shit enough.

let’s get iwata out of his position. please. before it’s too late.

      • kali

        Agree 100 percent

      • CydeFxt

        What about Reggie? Keep him?

        • thedeciderU

no, he needs to go too i think. the hardware needs sales. the game library is already looking quite good, but consoles are not moving, and doesn’t responsibility fall on iwata and reggie and other higher ups? the need to kick the kiddie image. nintendo turned into a joke for too many people, but i know that the games are awesome. and what the hell happened to returning appeal to the “core gamer”?

i sure wish nintendo would do everything in their power to get as many games as possible on their console, and it seems like they’re embracing the indie scene, which is fantastic, but what about other big devs? every console has power limitations (xbox one and ps4 are already being maxed out a couple months into their life cycle) and no one has interest in making games on wiiu? why not? because of decisions ultimately made by iwata, at least.

          • CydeFxt

I guess i always felt like Reggie is just as responsible and Iwata, but i might be wrong.

          • thedeciderU

i thought so too, but i think iwata is higher up than reggie.

        • Capt. Smoker

Reggie comes across as a tv salesman…. he should probably stick with that. I can just see him boasting about superior contrast ratio

        • insomniac

of course we gotta keep Reggie

        • insomniac

lets just fire everybody…….all of em…….who needs em…….listen at you business people lol rediculous

          • CydeFxt

I actually was in business myself. Not in the gaming industry, but in marketing. The #1 thing that companies want are numbers which are made through sales, and if the numbers aren’t being made people get fired. IT’S JUST THAT SIMPLE.

If you just want to ignore basic business principles then that’s you prerogative. Ignorance is bliss.

            Ridiculous.

          • thedeciderU

            i agree – it’s business.

          • thedeciderU

we’re having a discussion. please leave the drama at the door.

in a forum, it should be okay to criticize nintendo if we think they can do a better job. a lot of things are being done right, but i want to see nintendo succeed and shake off all the doom and gloom negativity. it’s not a lot to ask of them to advertise their product, is it? maybe it is.

      • Wooopigsooie

Another problem is Nintendo doesn’t seem to have a great feel of what’s going on outside of their own four walls. When they launched the Wii U w/ NSMBU, a 2D platformer, then saw that Ubisoft was bringing another FANTASTIC 2D platformer in Rayman that still today uses the gamepad better than any game from Nintendo, you would think that they would put one of their core development groups on something new and fresh, right? Wrong! We get DKC, which despite being a sublime platformer, is still another freaking 2D platformer! Yeah… I want Iwata out as well.

        • gamerofallplatforms

To be fair DKC was Retros decision, not Nintendo, they had two options another game or DKC and they made their decision and now they are working on the other game :/ whatever it is.
:/ I wouldn’t say Rayman is better than any game from Nintendo, Wind Waker stomps on Rayman, and so does Mario 3D World(I ain’t even a mario fan, but on 4 player multiplayer, it was loads of fun!). No doubt that Rayman is a very good game.

          • Wooopigsooie

Yeah, I realize that was Retro’s decision, it was just one that really baffles me. And I didn’t say Rayman was better than any Nintendo game, just that it used the gamepad in more exciting and useful ways. Zelda definitely beats Rayman any day! My biggest problem is that when you look at Nintendo’s first party releases, all of them (or at least the one’s I can think of right now) besides Pikmin are either platformers or party type games, with the exception of Wind Waker which I still don’t count as entirely new being a remake.

      • insomniac

why dont you play something else? i do alot of gaming on my pc and X1. i buy nintendo consoles to play nintendo games, but theres always something to play while waiting for their games to come out. i dont complain

        • thedeciderU

i do play other games on other systems. i’m commenting on the fact that although the games they’ve released are high quality, several of them do not appeal to me and same goes with other wiiu releases. it’s disappointing. i won’t sell the wiiu because of some of the big games that might eventually come, but it sure is a downer. and i’m sure there are probably some people that spent their last cent to get their hands on a wiiu and now the releases are very few and far between and they can’t afford another console. i’d be really pissed. luckily, i have stuff to fall back on.

          • insomniac

perhaps the Wii U isnt for you. iv been playing nintendo consoles since the early 90s. iv come to expect this from them. one thing iv learned is that when i wait on a release, 9 times out of 10 the wait was much needed and well worth it. if they delay it then i think that it will just be that much better of a game.

          • thedeciderU

yes, i have too. i expect this, but not lack of games in general. this is different. the waits make the games better, yes, but compared to other consoles there were always great non-nintendo games to fill gaps, there are some great games on eshop, but i have played all i wanted to play.

          • insomniac

so you as an individual dont like all their games so that means their doing everything wrong? you said “they have good games coming but im not in to all of them” then you go on to say “they have plenty of games on the eshop but iv played all i want to” are you really mad about not having games or the fact that games you want arnt on wii u? nintendo makes consoles for nintendo games. what do you want? 8 marios a year? howabout a couple new zeldas a month? my gosh

          • insomniac

their not gonna beg developers to bring games to their console. microsoft and sony are not in direct competition with nintendo. competition yes. but not direct. they dont fight for gaming control. thats for sony and microsoft to do

          • Graeme Lynch

I enjoy how you reply to yourself. LAWLCOPTERS.

          • thedeciderU

i was stating an opinion, and i’m not mad about anything period. i’m sorry you disagree and seem to think i’m unreasonable (i mean no sarcasm, no mal intention).

i guess i wish there were more games (currently) on wiiu that appeal to me. it doesn’t mean i hate nintendo, or that they should rot. it means what i said.

they are not doing everything wrong, and both you and i know it.

      • Magnus Eriksson

I think they should fire Iwata, Reggie and Miyamoto. Its for the best.

        • insomniac

          bite your tongue

        • Wildman

Miyamoto isn’t going anywhere. He makes games and doesn’t run Nintendo. I can see Iwata’s approval going down again, but what wrong has Reggie done?!?! His body is still ready.

          • greengecko007

Reggie spouts nonsense and promises to fans like there not being a game drought in 2014 knowing full well that he has no control over the development process of Nintendo’s games.

Will there have been a lot of indie and some 3rd party games released on Wii U, plus all the VC games, so technically he is right there hasn’t been a drought like last year.

          • Wildman

This is true, but the same thing happened with the 3DS, Wii, and even the DS for that matter. Why hasn’t he been fired yet?

          • greengecko007

Because even though he’s annoying, he’s largely irrelevant. His position as CEO of Nintendo of North America isn’t exactly a job that requires him to do anything more than be a figurehead for fanboys.

          • Wildman

Ahh, I see. He’s just a spokesperson for N.O.A. You are right. His job pretty much boils down to “Hype builder for Nintendo fans in America”

        • thedeciderU

yeah, miyamoto i think is okay. it’s iwata i think that’s probably hurting the company the most.

    • Jon

the launch window is kind of a ball park figure that most people are already assuming anyway. Nintendo said Smash will be 2014 and with no release date, it usually means Q4 The problem is here, the way they are describing it. It is not sounding like a delay.

      • CydeFxt

I see what you mean. I think from a business stand point, they’ll release it for the holiday season. I hate that companies have/choose to do that. But if that is the case, i hope that the time between now and then is utilized to make this the best SSMB ever.

    • ActivesiN

good enough….no not really, we have so few first party games on Wii U and this game along with Mario Kart 8 is a system seller so it would be nice to know when the game is being released
*if the release window is small like june-july then thats fine, but if its something like coming this fall then sorry we already knew that

  • Godlus

I just hope its not delayed into 2015.

    • Jon

it is very possible as usually when they say window, it refers to quarters and well…. it is not Q2, and they don’t have a release date for it now, it won’t be Q3. the other other time they use Window is when they say “holiday” which could be possible. It is also when most have already expected it to begin with.

  • Lusunup

Maybe this is a hoax like namco bandai recruitments for smashy 6 ._. I don’t know…. hopefully the launch window is in summer not fall…

  • Magnus Eriksson

I hope it wont be too much delayed. I want to have my second hand bought copy ready by Christmas…

    • Blue Hernandez

Who buys a SSB game just to resell it?

      • Daniel Gonzalez

I’ve seen plenty of used Nintendo games as well. Not uncommon.

      • Magnus Eriksson

All my Wii U games are bought second hand. So, no problem. I might even trade it with some of my other games.

        • Jon

sounds like my play station :P

      • Capt. Smoker

People who get bored of the same old experience…

  • bistricky

An announced date would have really got the ball rolling …. a launch window does not ….. they got a great console with the Wii U but with barely any retail releases in 2014 and an overall apathy in seeing the Wii U improve in sales …. the game hype is good and all BUT what this company needs is a stated timeline of released games …. with Smash Bros. leading the way. Cheers :D

  • MujuraNoKamen

Nintendo aren’t sure of the release date? not a good sign.
I won’t be surprised if it slips into 2015 – I’ve heard Namco are hiring many more people for Smash Bros and the contracts run into 2015 so unless they’re working on DLC, expect a delay :(

  • buz

When Nintendo announce a game they have to release it within 6 months or the anticipation just dies out, I find myself more and more getting my hands on Nintendo games and being super hyped then when playing them feeling disappointed.. not that the games were not very good just not as good as I expected. Donkey Kong Tropical freeze, Pikmin Skyward sword. Nintendo showed a trailer for smash a year ago.. it has to be sooner than later or we’ll all get this games and feel let down.

    • thedeciderU

      yes, this

  • jrob23

Stupid. Nintendo is not learning from their mistakes. Microsoft and Sony are in different ways leaving the door open to capitalize on some of their mistakes and Nintendo just makes more of their own. How Iwata still has a job is beyond me. If you aren’t going to give a surprise early release date. Why have a Smash specific direct? I am not sure I have witnessed a worse marketing team than this. This game needed to come out last fall anyway. I keep wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt but they keep failing miserably. The Wii U still seems rather doomed

    • Guest

      ..

      • jrob23

        is it irrelevant meme day?

    • Jon

      ..

    • Brandon Olson

So because we don’t get a release date, Wii U is doomed and Iwata is stupid? Get over yourself. The fact we’re getting such a hyped drop of news is awesome as is and builds hype for the rest of the year. Spoiled little shit.

      • WiiUPS43DS

Take a look in the mirror you nasty looking Fck

        • Brandon Olson

Wow you are mad. You just reminded me why I shouldn’t have bothered with coming back to this website anyways. Granted I’m no better for calling this guy spoiled. But this site brings out the worst in me.

I this site was well moderated I woulda happily taken a warning or hit if it meant getting you too man. What you said wasn’t cool.

          I’m outtie. Nintendolife ftw.

          • WiiUPS43DS

Goodbye! Can’t take what you dish out..Should have kept your mouth shut..Not mad just proved a point..U mad bro?
            BTW nintendolife sucks

      • jrob23

okay douche. because they have consistently dropped the ball with the Wii U release and subsequent lack of games I am spoiled? All the things that Nintendo could be doing to improve the Wii U’s outlook i.e. timely releases, better marketing, more transparency, better 3rd party wooing..they have failed at. They have Kart release set in stone and nothing else. They don’t do monthly directs any longer because frankly they don’t have anything positive to report. They don’t go to Pax East and expose their flagship Mario Kart for God knows why. They simply aren’t getting it. And yes, Iwata is a huge part of the problem. He hasn’t had them ready for online, HD, and this generation in general. Who else should we be blaming?

        • WiiUPS43DS

          Brandon is a moron

    • DC777

I tend to agree. While seeing more footage will be just ok, I was once again hoping Nintendo was going to get some momentum going while the other 2 are in a gaming desert. Nope.

  • Kenshin0011

Q1 2015. So basically a whole entire year from now

  • classicgamer20

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • Ducked

    Fall 2014 is my guess

  • Rob Lucci

    Fall 2016, PLEASE UNDERSTAND.

  • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

Oh, I thought it was just focusing on Smash Bros., but now I see that it’s a real Nintendo Direct! Correct me if I’m wrong.

    • Flintinator

It is focused on Smash Bros

  • Shota

smash bros demo like the rayman app. one can dream

  • WiiUPS43DS

Im not even going to watch at this point..Thanks nintendo for another let down

    • Brandon Olson

      Oh grow up.

      • WiiUPS43DS

Back at ya B and trust me kid i was gaming long before you
Oh and by the way got love the fact you can’t thumb down no more..:)

      • Guest

By the way love to see try to shut me up kiddy..Go @ yourself

    • Gabe Hoffman

So you are basically refusing to watch simply because they give a release window instead? That’s kinda pathetic

  • sup3rnoah

I hope Sakurai is delivering this direct.

  • Carlos Coronado

Was up with you people wanted to have a release date so fast when the game has 2 years or less on develop.

  • greengecko007

Launch window will be Q4 2014, assuming that we aren’t going to be told it’s delayed (like every 1st party Wii U game so far).

  • WiiUPS43DS

Well at least i have Mario Cart 8 to look forward too next month..Let me know who plans on getting this

  • I am Error.

What would be AMAZING (and a huge surprise) is if right afterwards the N64 and GC Smash titles popped up on the VC as the Wii U’s first N64 and GC titles, respectively. Hype city!

    • I am Error.

(sorry, not counting Wind Waker. I meant Wii U VC titles)

    • Gabe Hoffman

Better yet its announced that Melee is getting an HD remaster with Online capability

  • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

Nothing anymore now. Another f****ng “LAUNCH WINDOW”? What it’ll be? Q1 2015? Q4 2014 (read holidays 2014)? I’m so tired of this shit why waste an entire direct (probably) on the reveal of Cranky Kong as playable char (again pun intended), you could have done that on PAX14 aswell… Now I’m CRANKY

    • Gabe Hoffman

Overreacting a bit are we? The Direct will be 30 minute long definitely too long to spend on just a single reveal. A release window makes more sense because the game is likely still a relatively long ways off and allows for more breathing room in case of delays. Besides Sakurai stated himself that he intends to have Smash Bros finished and released by the end of this year.

      • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

Not overreacting N is focking up bigtime and have been doing so since the launch of the system. I’m just very very dissapointed in the direction they taking at this time.

  • X3Charlie

I say a release window is better than a day that ends up having to be delayed.

  • Gabe Hoffman

People really need to grow up. Sakurai said he intends for the game to be out by the end of this year.

  • Peter YT
  • RayMarioSonic

I expected that. I knew that there wouldn’t be an official release date but rather some time period as to when it will be released.

  • MerryBlind .

I want Bayonetta, Wonderful 101 (the whole team, you know, pulling insane moves together like in the actual game), and Shulk to be added in.

My number one request is still Skull Kid, but I know he’s only an assist trophy, sadly…

  • Rinslowe

I think the Window’s been open for far too long. They really needed to have included a release date for Smash already.
Not that I won’t be getting it anyway, but… No harm in letting people plan more effectively right?
I mean, I do have 3 other main platforms to think about here Nintendo.
    :)

  • Zackary Bruley

I fell that we will get a date for SSB4U and 3ds, but they will not be launched at the same time.

  • Stephen Macneil

Thought it was at 6pm EST?

    • paulthevgking

it is, that was a typo

  • jermil80

Everywhere else says 6:00 PM eastern, not 5.

    • thedeciderU

      was typo, it’s 6

      • jermil80

was? it still is the typo ;)

        • thedeciderU

          you are correct haha

  • Mitch Hall

Calling it now: it’s either going to be Q4 2014 or Q1 2015. I honestly don’t see what’s taking so long – based on what I’ve seen from the screenshots, the game LOOKS very close to finished.

  • Andrew Winn

Could be worse, They could say it will be Delayed untill 2015.

  • anthony optimo

    3ds 60 frames per second?!?!
