9 GameCube games we want to see on Wii U immediately

gamecube-wii-u-header

With the release of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Nintendo has teased us with revisiting classic GameCube titles on the Wii U. With it’s new coat of paint and remastered soundtrack, Wind Waker HD also makes us want Nintendo to focus efforts on bringing some of those classics to the Wii U in a fresh light, especially considering the port of Wind Waker HD only took six months once Nintendo dedicated time and resources to it. It would help alleviate the perceived game drought the Wii U is experiencing, while giving gamers who didn’t own a GameCube a chance to play these titles.

9. Luigi’s Mansion

luigis-mansion-gamecube-screen-5

Last year we saw a sequel to Luigi’s Mansion not on the Wii U, but the Nintendo 3DS. It would have made sense to bring the green brother’s haunted house game to the Wii U during the Year of Luigi, which is what many hoped for, but alas that seems not to be the direction Nintendo wanted to go. Still, we think there are some very novel uses for the GamePad when it comes to hoovering up ghosts, so we still want to see this one made available to Wii U owners eventually.

Luigi’s Mansion got a lot of hate for being different in its time, similar to Wind Waker HD. With the success of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon on the Nintendo 3DS, re-releasing this classic or revisiting the world on the Wii U would make a lot of sense for both Nintendo and consumers.

8. Metroid Prime

metroidprime0430

People have been asking for a new Metroid game since the Wii U was announced way back in 2011. It’s probably in the cards sometime in the future, though Nintendo might be a little hesitant since Metroid is typically more popular in the West than in Japan. The tepid reception of Metroid: Other M might be holding up the train as well, but we’re holding out that we’ll see something at this year’s E3 related to Metroid. We’re hoping it’s the same quality as Metroid Prime.

7. Star Fox Adventures

Star_Fox_Adventures_GCN_Screenshot

Most Star Fox fans will cite Star Fox 64 as their favorite entry in the series because Star Fox Adventures departed from the direction of the series a bit. It’s still a classic title that could have a lot of room to grow on the Wii U, since environments could be larger and the story being told could be expanded upon to make a little more sense in the realm of the Star Fox universe. We’d love Nintendo to revisit the world of Star Fox and Star Fox Adventures might not be a bad place to start.

6. Resident Evil 4

resi4gc_003-large

We wouldn’t want a flat out remake of Resident Evil 4, but we would like to see Capcom go back to its roots. They attempted this with Resident Evil Revelations last year and it was well received. Resident Evil 6 ended up being more like Call of Duty than a survival horror game, which is a shame considering Resident Evil sort of pioneered the genre for consoles. Now gamers are turning to the likes of indie games to get their fix and none of those have made their way to the Wii U. C’mon, Capcom. Give us another great Resident Evil title like Resident Evil 4.

5. Pokemon Colosseum

pokemon-colosseum

Despite stating that the main entries for the Pokemon series will remain as handheld titles, Nintendo has explored the world of Pokemon on console before. Pokemon Snap for the N64 was highly popular and Pokemon Colosseum for the GameCube sold over a million copies. It’s clear there’s a market here for Pokemon games on the console. Earlier in 2013 we saw some leaked screenshots of what looked to be Lucario fighting another Pokemon that led us to believe Nintendo might be exploring the option of bringing a Pokemon Colosseum style game to the Wii U. We’d welcome it with open arms.

4. Animal Crossing

animal-crossing

This technically isn’t a GameCube port we want, but rather a new entry in the series on the console. The title got its start on the GameCube before moving to the Nintendo DS for Animal Crossing: Wild World, and then back to a console for Animal Crossing: City Folk. The cycle repeated itself with the release of Animal Crossing: New Leaf last year on Nintendo 3DS, so we think it’s time for another Animal Crossing game on Wii U. With the Animal Crossing WaraWara Plaza release last year, we saw just how good a new Animal Crossing game could look for Wii U.

3. Kirby Air Ride

kirby-air-ride

While Mario Kart 8 is getting released in a few days, Kirby Air Ride did a lot of unique things with the racing genre that we’d like to see again on the Wii U. Even the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is borrowing the Smash Run mode concept from this game, which means there’s still some life left in the mechanics here. Kirby Air Ride was pretty popular on the GameCube as well, so we’d definitely like to see the team at HAL Laboratory bring us a similar game now that Kirby Triple Deluxe has finally shipped.

2. Phantasy Star Online

phantasy-star-online

Technically Phantasy Star Online is a Dreamcast title, but Phantasy Star Online Episodes I & II were released for the GameCube in 2002. We’d love to see Sega re-explore the franchise on the Wii U, where proper online gameplay is now possible. Dragon Quest IX seems to be doing well in Japan and would probably have a great following in the West, so it’s not unlikely that a new Phantasy Star Online game could achieve the same success, especially on the Wii U.

1. Super Mario Sunshine

super-mario-sunshine

While a lot of these games on our list are wishful thinking on our part, Super Mario Sunshine is perhaps the one game that definitely deserves to see a new release on the Wii U. Ever since the announcement of Wind Waker HD, fans have been clamoring for a new Super Mario Sunshine. In fact, when we asked Wii U Daily readers a few months ago which GameCube title they wanted to see released most as a virtual console title, the answer was resoundingly, Super Mario Sunsine. There’s no doubt there’s a lot of love for this title and we feel like the GamePad would provide a perfect way to control Mario in this one.

These are just a handful of titles we’d love to see re-done or breathed new life into in the form of a sequel for fans of the series on the Wii U. Do you have a GameCube title you want to see that we missed? Let us know in the comments!

they are still giving us NES games, So… at this rate, we’ll see these in about 20 years.

  • Charlieblizz

Have to notice that the majority of these games that would be nice if re-released, would be just as nice to have new entries in those series. New Star Fox, Luigi Mansion, and Resident Evil would likely be day 1 buys for me.

    • Magnus Gonzalez

exactly. If any of these get re-released it means they simply are not ready to release the newer games. Bad sign. Loved Wind Waker HD though and I am sure I’d love Sunshine (hadn’t played that either) so I’d welcome it. It depends on how easy it is to do and whether it takes away resources maybe better spent on getting new games out there.

      • Fred

They paid an outside studio to do Wind Waker HD so it only took a little bit of Nintendo’s resources as a quality control measure. I love the idea they can bring many more games to Wii U without using up valuable resources.

        • lonewolf

Hmm outside studio? Hmm how come the producer (or the director I dont know the guy who is responcible to make zelda games) said that it took them (him and his zelda team) to make wind waker hd for 6 months and trough that they got to know the console more better so since they finished that work they went back to help the rest of the stuff and make the new game faster and more better.

        • Arthur Jarret

Ocarina 3D was done by an outside team, Windwaker was done internally to get some hands-on experience with Wii U development and HD in general.

      • felony211662

I always thought you two were one and the same

  • steveb944

Mario Sunshine was freaking awesome. Sole reason we still have a Wii in our home, along with Paper Mario. Give those to me on VC and I’ll still be happy to be able to play them on my Wii U.

  • jjbredesen

YES! Give all of these games the HD treatment! I have always wanted an HD sunshine make it happen Nintendo.

The water, the sun etc. would be a perfect fit, and Metroid Prime would also really benefit, would also like to see Star Fox adventures!

Rouge Squadron should also be in the list.

But of all the games, i want a 3D pokemon game on Wii U i really liked Colosseum .

    And don’t forget Eternal Darkness!
    http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20131003152126/fantendo/images/7/71/Super_Mario_Sunshine_2.jpg

    • DoctorWily

Rogue Squadron was such an amazing game. I remember I pre-ordered it and it showed up on my doorstep about a week before the GCN was released. It was so hard to have that in my hands and not be able to play it for that week. I would love to see it in HD along with Mario Sunshine.

      • Tecpedz94

I’m sure they will do this

      • Rinslowe

        I Agree.
Rogue Leader RS 2 is still to this day a decent looking game, in my books.
They wouldn’t need to change a thing in gameplay IMO…
Super Mario Sunshine would be awesome in HD as well.

      • LyonKS555

I remember buying that game before the console itself : )

    • abe

update that let’s you access the online missions in splitscreen

    • Javy G

YES to all, but you forgot PAPER MARIO THOUSAND-YEAR DOOR! And I wouldn’t mind Double Dash for nostalgia though I’m so hyped for Mario Kart 8!

      • jjbredesen

YES! How could i forget Paper Mario was fantastic, no question that Gamecube was a fantastic console!

    • nin-10-doughfan

      definitely eternal darkness!^o^!(in HD!)

    • Josiah Parsons

Am I the only one who would psyched for Kirby Air Ride HD?

      • jjbredesen

Never tried the game, so i donno xD

    • Rinslowe

True! Every game on that list is a decent contender for a little HD treatment!
I’d love to see them reveal a new Wii U Metroid title with the Metroid Prime trilogy HD remakes bundled as an unlimited – platinum – unobtanium addition. Sold separately on the E-shop…
I know it’s total fandom talking but that would be the s#@t!
      ;P

      • jjbredesen

If they did that i could die happy!

        • Rinslowe

Touch on wood. Again, you and me both.
          :)

          • jjbredesen

I think i need to make myself a Reggie Fils Amech and have that game made!!

    • SuperSonicBrawler

Honestly, I wish you people would stop encouraging these HD re-releases. The last thing we need right now is Nintendo devoting more time to old games. Don’t get me wrong, I love these games and would be more than happy to buy them again on Wii U, but only as reasonably priced eShop titles, not absurdly overpriced HD remakes. Heck, I still have a Wii AND a GameCube that are more than capable of playing the originals, and playing Wind Waker on them feels no different than playing it on Wii U. In the grand scheme of things, making a game HD means diddly squat in terms of enjoyment. It’s about the gameplay, not the graphics, and I’d figured we as Nintendo fans would understand that more than anyone. Nintendo should be devoting as much manpower as possible to making new games for us, not just cashing in on old ones by making them prettier. So if you wanna ask for GameCube games to come to the eShop, be my guest. I’ll be right there with you. But don’t make Nintendo delay their new games even longer because you wanna see how much bloom they can add to Mario Sunshine. These games are perfect just the way they are.

      • Alexander Munnerlyn

        F-Zero and Starfox need love

    • Justin

That box art is cool and gave me a Nintendogasm. :)

    • CMB

I would like to see metal gear solid:The twin snakes

  • Virus6

I just want Phantasy Star Online 2. I will settle for PSO HD

  • Paul Aiden

Agree with Sunshine and Kirbys Air Ride, would absolutely love to see the classic (imho) EA Games James Bond titles like “Everything or Nothing” and “From Russia with Love”

    • Thomas Fitzgibbon

Oh God! Don’t bring EA into this haha

    • zlk

Rogue Agent was pretty rad and kind of gets forgotten

    • C4

      Nightfire! :)

  • Jack5221

You know what would also be really cool? Pokemon Snap! Think about it. TONS of new Pokemon since the 1st generation, a beloved classic, HD, and its a game that can really use the gamepad in a cool way. Using the gamepad as a camera to aim and snap pictures. Please Nintendo!! Make it Happen! Pokemon Snap U!

    • Fred

THey’ve already done a lot of the programming for that with Game and Wario.

      • Jack5221

Yeah… But its still not an HD Pokemon Snap with most if not all the new and old Pokemon. :P

        • Fred

I know. That want my point. My point was they’ve done some of the programming maybe they could recycle resources and cut costs for making Pokemon snap 2

  • zlk

I’m a bit disappointed Eternal Darkness isn’t on here. That’s one of the most well designed games from that entire generation and it was a launch title no less.

    • Nintenjoe82

      it wasn’t a launch title

      • zlk

Indeed, looks like my memory is fuzzy. I think I just remember it was one of the first games we got.

        • Nintenjoe82

It was pretty early but like a fool I couldn’t wait for it to come out and bought REmake first. Had to save up for months to get ED afterwards!

Such a good game, shame that Nintendo haven’t carried it on. Nintendo don’t have many mature titles but plenty of the ones they’ve had have been masterpieces.

  • starwars360

ETERNAL DARKNESS?!!!!!!!!!! YOU FORGET MENTION IT!!! HOW DARES ARE YOU?!!

    • Nintenjoe82

There’s plenty missing from this list but ED is probably my favourite game on GC or at least tied with RE4.

    • DoctorWily

I have Eternal Darkness and while I thought it was a good game I definitely don’t think it was one of the greatest games on GCN. I don’t understand all the love that it gets like it was the greatest game ever made. Why? Because it would make you think it erased your save file? To me, Wind Waker, Sunshine, Double Dash, Metroid Prime, Rogue Squadron and more are head and shoulders above Eternal Darkness.

      • Shota

skies of acrcadia best gamecube game along smash bros melee

        • Tim Hart

Have to agree with skies of arcadia. Love that game so much i replay it ever year or so.

        • jjbredesen

Not tried Skies of Arcadia, but for me it has got to be Melee still play it today.

My top 10 in no particular order:

          1. Melee

          2. Wind Waker

          3. Metroid: Prime

          4. Mario Sunshine

          5. Star Fox Assault

          6. Star Fox: Adventures

          7. Rouge Squadron

          8. Double Dash

          9. Harvest Moon a wonderful life

          10. Eternal Darkness

Also enjoyed Colosseum and XD, but i prefer the traditional games more. Luigi’s mansion was a solid game, but the game i actually spent most time playing apart from Melee was the Zelda special edition disc because it came with OOT, MM, Zelda I and Zelda II, never owned OOT as a kid so the gamecube version was the first time i played it. And can’t forget to mention Paper Mario!

          Fantastic console!

          • Officer Raichu

            i would agree acept
i think 4 will take care of melee
mk8 of course takes care of dd
Wind Waker of course is already on wii u
then i actually heard from a guy on a forum i go to that said he went to see his friend who worked for nintendo of europe/germany
and he asked him about e3
and the rep said that old ips will be ressurected and shown off
sadly he also said smxfm or yarn yoshi is going to be cancel :(

          • jjbredesen

My list was just my fav GC games, not the ones i wanted remade, but that aside i agree.

Who is this Nintendo person? Could you give me a link?

My uncle has a friend that works for Microsoft’s Xbox division so i actually saw a prototype Xbone, but it looked nothing like the final product, had 3D printed controllers etc. lol.

          • Officer Raichu

            heres the link

            http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/04/29/nintendo-reveals-its-e3-plans

look for a post from ole its a little ways down :(

          • Officer Raichu

i would have bought day 1
            i love making 3d circles :D

          • Hobo

That’s why Xbox isn’t selling as good as PS4, they forgot the circles!

          • Shota

That’s kinda my list too XD never played rouge squadron though :(

          • Rinslowe

            Say Whaa?
Must play, total spectacle of that launch era! And still spectacle today! If you’re even a little bit of a Star Wars nut, then you’d like Rogue Squadron already. It was a highly polished game.

          • jjbredesen

As Rinslowe said it is a must have! Fantastic game, and it looks fantastic to, would go as far as to say that it looked as good as some of the early 360 games!

          • Magnus Eriksson

Good list. But as much as I want HD treatment on those games I much rather seen it done on N64 titles, and GCN released as VC games. I think that would make more sense. My N64 HD Remake list:
            1. Golden Eye
            2. OoT
            3. MM
            4. MK64
            5. Star Wars 64
            6. Turok
            7. DK64
            8. Banjo
            9. StarFox
            10. Paper Mario 64
            11. Super Mario 64
            12. Pilot Wings 64
            13. Supermaaaa… just kidding, not that one.

          • Rinslowe

            On the money Magnus! :)

          • jjbredesen

My list was just of my fav GC games, not the ones i wanted remade, but i agree on that N64 would be even better remade!

            1. YES! YES! YES!
            2. Already have OOT3D, but and HD version would still be awesome, but i don’t think Nintendo would.

            3. YES YES YES!

            4. We have got MK8, but it would be awesome if they added all of MK64’s tracks remade!

            5. Never tried it, but it looks really cool, and since 1313 was canceled, i would really like it!

            6. Yeah that would be awesome, they made one on xbox 360, but it sucked so making one on Wii U could either be good or bad depending on who makes it, but it has the potential to be really good.

            7. YES! I think it would be awesome really loved that game, although we just got DK:TF, DK64 was completely different from the 2D ones, so it could be really good!

            8. If only MS would selll RARE :(

            9. We have got Star Fox 64 3D, but a new starfox game would be amazing if they continued in the direction Assault started, just with more arwing stages, and Mass Effect type gameplay on the ground!

            10. YES!

            11. We have got M64 DS, but a new Mario game, that continued in Mario 64’s style would be great!

            12. We have got Pilot Wings on 3DS, but i think there is room for one on Wii U, not sure.

            13. Game of the century! It is the game that would save Wii U! 100% agree :P

          • ICHI

I would love it if they added all of the N64 tracks and had an item editor in game so you could do away with all the weapons not present in the N64 version, no blue shells or crazy 8’s would really sort the men from the boys!

          • nexxus6

If we are doing N64 games, I would take a HD version of Jet Force Gemini and Turok 2

      • Graeme Lynch

Uh how about Eternal Darkness being one of the few gems Nintendo has that retains originality?

  • Capt. Smoker

    Kirby!!!!!!

  • Sycamore

Fire Emblem Path of Radiance would be great too! Especially with the gamepad touch screen. Not to mention how much people charge for the gamecube version.

    • Capt. Smoker

lets hope if we pray they’ll hear us, been way too long since I’ve played path of radiance, I have radiant dawn for Wii but lets be honest, radiant dawn couldn’t even sit in the same class as path of radiance ^^ remember that horrifying feeling you got when the black knight would randomly pop up out of nowhere? :D http://img1.ak.crunchyroll.com/i/spire1/01272008/3/7/5/2/3752f79a509940_full.jpg

      • lonewolf

        Greato techear Onizuka

        • Capt. Smoker

Possibly the only anime character with a face for every situation xD

  • Sdudyoy

Kirby air ride is a game I still haven’t tried, I would love for it to come to Wii U!

  • Kazuya Master

Yeeeeeaaaaahhh you have the best idea

  • Kazuya Master

You have forgot pokemon gale of darkness

    • Mario

Ohh! He’s right! That game was awesome when I was playing it on the Gamecube!

  • metalpants

    9) Yes please

    8) It would indeed be amazing… Imagine if they combined the epicness of console Prime with the awesomeness of MP Hunters O_O… it would be any Nintendo-brocore gamer’s dream

    7) Star Fox Adv. would be better off not so close to Dinosaur Planet, and more along the lines of its original futuristic vibe IMO

    6) Tall order there… 5 & 6 dropped the ball, and Revelation brought them back to focus to a certain extent… not sure we’ll ever see something as amazing as RE 4 unless they stay within that storyline or emulate it with a different twist, like witchdoctors and whatnot

    5) Yes. Any Pokemon on Wii U (that isn’t some silly spin-off) would be very welcomed

    4) I guess it would be good… but there’s so many other things on GC that could easily take this spot IMO, like Battalion Wars or something ;)

    3) Uh… I’d rather take F-Zero :o

    2) HECK yes!! Although I think Monolith’s X might just fill that void nicely

    1) Sunshine was fun, but I would prefer something within the Mushroom Kingdom… closer to SM64 than SM Sunshine

  • Zombie_Andrew

Can’t they just do Metroid Prime Trilogy HD? And just bring out Resident Evil 4 HD and add Wii U gamepad controls? That’s much more worth my money!

    • Nintenjoe82

Nintendo hate our money. If WWHD took 6 months in total to develop, MPTHD would probably take a similar amount of time and they could even tack on a bit of online deathmatch or coop hunting to justify full price!

      • DoctorWily

All 3 games in HD in one bundle would justify full price for me!

        • Nintenjoe82

shhhhh, don’t let them get away without giving us at least a fun deathmatch.

        • Fred

Why not just ask them to print some more Wii copies?

  • Nintenjoe82

RE4 is already playable on Wii U and it’s a better version than the gamecube’s. You might not be able to use genuine GC controllers but you can use a classic controller or one of the many gamecube looking classic controllers made for Wii.

  • Seth S. Scott

THANK GOD Mario Sunshine is number 1 on this list. Its easily one of my top 10 games of all time and I would buy a HD Remake twice!!! But a true sequel would truly be amazing as the next big Mario 3D game.

    • DoctorWily

I agree. The island needs to be revisited aside from in a Mario Kart game.

  • Jerry

i can’t believe nobody mentioned skies of arcadia legends. that’s one i definitely want

    • Kev

Skies of Arcadia Legends is a great game.

    • Patrick Skollerud

      This!

  • Nintenjoe82

Super Monkey Ball 2 with Gamepad tilt controls and Wiimote controls for monkey tennis and bowling!!

    • Fred

I liked the original better than the sequel!

  • Alvaro Castañeda

That Pokemon game should be No. 2!! I dont care if its a remake or a new game but i would really appreciate having a pokemon 3d game on my wii u

  • Smeagol

    No Smash Melee? Meh.

  • Mr Ninty

why only 9??? i want more more

  • Timothy Mercier

    what about paper mario!

  • Timothy Mercier

I dont understand why they dont do a huge pokemon game for console. With vast wilderness to explore and sprawling cities with shops and whatnot. Same format with catching monsters and training them. Sounds like so much fun to me!
A new entry would be awsome but imagine a full 3-d remake of red version!
Your telling me this wont sell Nintendo?

    • Steve

Pokemon = Pocket monsters. If they made a major game on consoles, it wouldn’t be so much pocket, now would it? Lol

      • Timothy Mercier

        i wouldnt mind haha

      • greengecko007

Pocket monsters fit into little ball devices allowing the trainer to fit them into a pocket for easy transport. Would this concept be changed if they made a Pokemon game for a console instead of a handheld? Judging from Colosseum and XD, not at all.

Game Freak just doesn’t want to make a console Pokemon game.

        • mario54671

Game Freak like the idea of being able to take the game with you and play with friends and trade locally with other portable systems. That’s always been the thing with Pokémon. So making a console game would kind of kill this.

Though, there IS an internet now. I was never into the whole trading thing myself, I just like the experience of playing the game.

The internet is over 50 years old, even Nintendo is catching on to online integration.

Game Freak doesn’t want to take the time and resources to make a console game because let’s be honest, they don’t sell nearly as well as the handheld games do. They’d rather stick to handhelds because it’s safer and cheaper for them.

Nintendo only owns a third of the IP I believe, so unfortunately, they aren’t in a position to be calling the shots.

    • 00EpicGamer00

I think No No Kuni is a good example of how a console Pokemon game could be (at least, as far as the battle system goes). I think it’d be cool for Pokemon to have that kind of battle system. Where you could actually control your Pokemon. I rhink that a more “innovating” experience, instead of just “oh, choose this move, now I sit and watch my Pokemon do something.”

  • David Flick

Paper mario and the thousand year door. Easily te best in the series and I would love to see a HD version or for the series to go back to the partner setup from 1&2

  • Jason

Twilight Princess and Sonic Adventures 1 & 2. You can use the gamepad as the VMU.

  • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

Definitely Luigi’s Mansion and Super Mario Sunshine. The Metroid Prime series got a Wii port so personally I believe that if the game was available on Wii then there is no need to remake it for the Wii U since the Wii U actually plays Wii games.

    • Justin Carlson

While I understand the ‘It got a wii port’ idea, the Metroid prime trilogy is very hard to find and is selling for much more than retail on eBay, so I would like a HD release to bring the price back down to reality, not to mention the updated graphics on my 2nd favorite game of all time.

      • Fred

So we need to convince Nintendo that it’s worth doing another print run

        • 00EpicGamer00

Why would Nintendo waste all their time and resources for releasing more copies of a Wii game? I thought Nintendo was trying to bring focus to the Wii U. Making more copies of a Wii game would be just plain stupid. And besides, Nintendo has already discontinued the Wii console. Making a game for a discontinued console would just bring allot of confusion and hate.

          • Fred

So you just outlined reasons why they may choose not to. Here’s some reasons why they might choose to:

Wii was discontinued, but the Wii mini wasn’t and Wii u plays wii games

They’re losing money and this would be a quick and easy way to increase revenue without increasing expenses.

Fans want it. They’re constantly getting accused of being out of touch and not listening to their fans it’s cheap and easy to do this thing.
I’m not trying to say your points aren’t valid just saying you only stated one side of the issue and you implied that is no upside to doing this.

          • 00EpicGamer00

Who would buy a Wii Mini? Lol. That’s a joke in itself. Of course there’s an upside to doing that, but there’s more negative than positive. Just think about it. Would Nintendo really waste their own time making more copies of an old Wii game, just because some random person off the street asked them to? No.

Look, all I’m saying is making an HD remake of the Metroid Prime Trilogy collection, for Wii U of course, would be a better business decision than releasing more copies of it on the Wii. It’d bring more awareness to the Wii U, and since the metroid games tend to have a dark-ish kind of artsyle, they’d truly be able to show the doubters what the Wii U can do.

      • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

I suppose. I have the Metroid Prime Trilogy in the Tin case so I guess I am lucky.

      • mario54671

Then… just print more copies of it.

The point is, remaking the GameCube game is absolutely stupid when you already have a Wii port of it that can be playable directly on the Wii U.

  • FlashFan207

Well, F-Zero obviously. I must admit I was surprised to see it wasn’t number 1 on your list, let alone not on your list at all.

  • Blue Hernandez

I would love to see Melee and Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 redone in HD.

  • Noah

Honest question. Did anyone else find Metroid Prime a little boring and overrated? It was good, it was just hard to finish.

    • Zuxs13

No not at all. I didn’t find it hard either. Challenging yes but not Dark Souls kind of hard. By no means did i find it over rated either, though i find Prime 3 to be the best and most people say Prime 1 is so in that regards i think prime 1 is over rated.

      • Noah

When I said “hard to finish,” I wasn’t referring to game difficultly. I meant that I had troubling finding the motivation to finish it because it didn’t keep my interest. Having trouble explaining it, does that make sense?

    • Fred

      Me Yes

  • Donaald

Nice list! I would also like both True Crime games, Hitman 2, Sega Soccer Slam, F-Zero GX, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Eternal Darkness, Geist, Bloodrayne, Star Wars Jedi Outcast 2 and that’s all I can remember for now.

    • Fred

YES Star Wars Jedi Outcast 2!!!

  • Donaald

    • Tim Hart

I would say gamecube and dreamcast are the most underated consoles of the past.

      • Rinslowe

True. Wii U is the most underrated console of the present. But here’s hoping it see’s some success like the 3DS and makes that “point of the moment” irrelevant in the long run.
        :)

  • Qubonic

YES YES YES WE DEFINITELY NEED PSO BACK!!!!!!!

  • Dark-Link73

I agree with all the games mentioned above. What about Twilight Princess? I don’t care what a lot of people say. To me, TP is one of the greatest Legend of Zelda games of all time.

    • http://its-yuma-tsukumo.tumblr.com/ Yuma Tsukumo

Hell yes. The dark-ish story line was a very good direction

    • Fred

So go buy the Wii disc for $20 and pop it in!

      • Dark-Link73

Please! Don’t tell me you’re one of those people who believe upscaling is true HD! Besides, the same can be said of several of the games Ashley talked about and I don’t see you talking shit to her. Suck up!

        • Fred

I almost said that about Metroid prime, but then I figured someone would rightly say that trilogy is hard to find, but Zelda is easy to find at Walmart for $20.
Besides that I want trying to be rude. I just thought that’s what I’d do.
Yes I realize that playing Wii games on Wii u only does progressive scan and not upscaling.

      • companyoflosers

its still pixelly as f@!# with wii u upscaling. we want redone textures and a higher native resolution. if twilight princess looked like the tech demo they showed for the wii u a few years back with link fighting the giant spider, wouldnt that be epic?!

        • Rinslowe

I think everyone’s collective Zelda hype meter is about to explode!
          :)

Nintendo’s E3 digital event is going to be one hell of a show!

          • companyoflosers

kinda wish they had shown something last year, even if it wasnt actual gameplay and maybe just a trailer of a hint of story or something. oh well, its a new year and a new e3 and if rumors are to be believed this next zelda game is going to be massive in scope compared to previous games. im hoping for a large amount of non story related exploration like some optional dungeons or caves. if anyone remembers the area in TP when you go into a hole in gerudo desert and fight monsters on different levels and it kept getting harder as you went down until you reach the bottom and got fairy tears. think stuff like that but more variety and all over. i also always hoped theyd introduce a game type like that off to the side that just kept going on and on for a high scoring kind of thing. i dont want to call it horde mode cuz i like to think there would be some puzzle elements and environmental aspects built in. i dont think thell do exactly that but one can always hope.

          • Rinslowe

Why did you have to go into Zelda DETAILS!!??!!
Now I’m going to have to have a drink, just to calm the mind a little…
            :P

        • Fred

Wii U doesn’t do upscaling. It just changes it to progressive scan (480p)

          • companyoflosers

no, ive checked with various programs and capture devices. it does a software upscale and the video output all shows up as 1080p or 720p depending on what u have it set to. now the INTERNAL resolution is progressive 480p which is why u get pixelated image in addition to not having anti-aliasing.

          • Fred

I used component cables on my Wii and the HDMI on my Wii u it looks IDENTICAL. Nintendo would have said something if it upscaled. Plus upscaling in a way that leaves it jagged isn’t upscaling it’s cementing a crappy resolution

          • companyoflosers

whatever you say man but every time i hook up an hdmi passthrough capture device and tell it to capture whatever resolution the console is putting out, its coming out at 1080p. that means the console is taking the native 480p game and stretching it to 1080p while also not making it look worse like stretching things usually does. thats the definition of upscaling mate. taking a sd image and displaying it at hd resolutions while preventing any noticeable loss it quality while also adding small touch ups, things like blur for example to help make it look better. the point is, its not supposed to look the part of hd, just display at hd without looking worse. if you can look at them together and say that it looks identical then the upscaling has done its job because no matter how much you debate it, the output signal doesnt lie. its upscaled. if you need to read up on what upscaling really means, heres a relevant article for reference: http://www.cubed3.com/news/17666/1/wii-u-upscale-explained-wii-games-do-in-europe-with-hdmi-doesnt-up-render.html

          • Fred

Upscaling doesn’t mean it keeps it from looking worse. It means it makes it look better. When I first bought my 46″ HD 3DTV and popped in a DVD (on the old DVD player) it looked terrible even with progressive scan and component cables. Then I hooked up the PS3 (which has upscaling) and the same DVD look almost as good as a blu-ray (not quite that good, but close). When I played Skyword Sword on the Wii with Component cables and then played it on the Wii U with an HDMI cable it looked EXACTLY THE SAME. So as far as I’m concerned it’s not upscaling. You can call it what you want, but unless it actually looks better I won’t call it upscaling.

          • Fred

After typing that first reply I read your article. I’m not in Europe so that 576i resolution doesn’t really exist here with our hardware. All I know is my games looked identical on my TV with the Wii U as they did on my TV with the Wii.

          • companyoflosers

thats the point! upscaling is used to stretch the image but keeping the appearance of the same presentation! it says that in the article if your really payed attention! I dont know what more you want, youve had a clear definition by people who know what they are talking about put right in front of you. it doesnt matter if you are in europe, the process is still the exact same. its impossible for upscaling to make things look better because like the article said, upscaling doesnt re-render anything. everything is still at native resolution just stretched without any loss. when you play with a wii using component cables on an hdtv, the image doesnt fill the entire screen, theres a black border around unless you mess with settings in the tv to zoom in and enlarge the picture. when you play with the wii u upscaling, it fills the WHOLE screen because it is taking that 480p signal and turning it to and hd signal that isnt just bigger, its digital rather than analog. i dont know what else would have to be said to convice you all the facts have been stated. upscaling is not making it look better, it is literally taking a small image, enlarging it and compensating for the stretching without losing any of the presentation. thats upscaling. if you still dont get it at this point, you never will but you certainly shouldnt be telling people they do or dont know something about this stuff when you clearly cant grasp it yourself.

          • Fred

actually you’re wrong there! component cables are for 16X9 tvs

          • companyoflosers

wtf?! when did i say anything about aspect ratio?! do you have a mental disability of some sort?! component is capable of displaying in both 16:9 AND 4:3 but 16:9 is a widescreen format and has been used more in recent years. you can have a 480p game at either 16:9 OR 4:3 depending on your tv’s settings. that however has nothing to do with upscaling at all.

          • Fred

this is what you said, “when you play with a wii using component cables on an hdtv, the image doesnt fill the entire screen, theres a black border around unless you mess with settings in the tv to zoom in and enlarge the picture. when you play with the wii u upscaling, it fills the WHOLE screen because it is taking that 480p signal and turning it to and hd signal that isnt just bigger, its digital rather than analog. i”
but man you’re really being a jerk about all this.

          • companyoflosers

im getting frustrated because you refuse to admit you didnt know what upscaling actually meant and you are going off and picking at little things that have nothing to do with it. usually yes, component id for 16:9 tv’s but it CAN be used by an console that outputs a 4:3 signal like the gamecube for example. aspect ratio is just simply referring to the amount of pixels vertically and horizontally. there are alot of non hd resolutions that can use 16:9 aspect ratio granted, most of them are custom resolutions. back to the actual reason for this debate though, yes the wii u DOES upscale. it takes an sd signal, stretches the image and increases pixel count WITHOUT degrading the overall presentation. even in a sd resolution the uses component cables like the wii would not be as sharp and would not preserve colors as well as they are when they are upscaled by the wii u. some tv’s handle things different but say for example you hooked you component cable into a component to hdmi converter and plugged that into your tv. it would not fill up the entire screen because most tv’s treat hdmi differently than component or composite and wont stretch it to fit the screen and shows how big the picture REALLY is in comparison (some tvs do it differently). when you plug in component or composite, the tv’s screen switch to a lower resolution. ever notice how sd never really looked as bad on an old tv until you use a new hd tv and it suddenly looks like crap. so sure, maybe you dont see a difference between your wii playing and your wii u playing upscaled, thats the point. the wii u is physically sending an hd signal even when you play wii games which means it is stretching it and doing things to maintain the presentation. NOTHING is meant to LOOK better, just play higher resolution without looking stretched.

    • mario54671

There’s a Wii version of Twilight Princess… just play the Wii version.

      • Dark-Link73

Please! Don’t tell me you’re also one of those people who believe upscaling is true HD! Besides, the same can be said of several of the games Ashley talked about and I don’t see you talking shit to her. Suck up!

        • mario54671

I did. I posted an original comment on her asinine choices of Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4 and mentioned how it doesn’t take much intelligence to figure out that one cannot just “port” Super Mario Sunshine and Luigi’s Mansion over to Wii U due to incompatible controls (Wii U has no analog L/R buttons).

That aside, WHY ON EARTH would Nintendo remake Twilight Princess when… again, you could play it on Wii U. They remade Wind Waker because this wasn’t playable on Wii U, it was only playable on one of the discontinued Wiis with GCN compatibility or on a GCN itself… which was discontinued in 2007.

Besides, have a version of Twilight Princess for THREE generations of consoles in a row? Are you kidding me? Okay, yes, it’ll be 480p upscaled to 1080p… but remaking it would be redundant.

(Yes, I understand there is an obvious mathematical difference between 854×480 vs. 1280×720 vs. 1920×1080, DUH)

          • companyoflosers

the point is redone textures and an overall prettier game. imagine playing twilight princess with the graphics shown in the zelda wii u tech demo back before the wii u was out. it would almost be like playing a new game. as for the difference in analog vs digital controls, nintendo is smart, they can figure out a way. the wi u has more versatility than you give it credit for.

          • mario54671

Yeah, the Wii U is quite versatile, but you can’t just PORT games with analog triggers to a system that lacks them. You have to go back and redo the game in some way. So in this case, an enhanced remake would be appropriate.

            Regarding the resolution/graphics thing… YES… I know.

Twilight Princess could use a facelift, but why now? The old game is already playable on Wii U, so this would really be just about the graphics alone. If you’re remaking the game because of graphics then… it’s just better to wait. Because, then another system will come out that’s even more powerful than Wii U, and then IT will be more capable in terms of textures. Why not wait until then? By then, Twilight Princess wouldn’t be playable at all on that system anymore, and the graphics would be even better than that tech demo.

As it stands now, the Wii U runs things incredibly well… in 720p. When you run games in 1080p, they’re either not too far removed visually from their predecessors (Smash Bros. on Wii U doesn’t look THAT much better than Brawl) and cut a lot of corners, or they’re remakes of GameCube games (Wind Waker) running at 30fps. So why not wait on Twilight Princess until the next home console? The big selling point of that game over Wind Waker was its realistic visuals and its appeal to core gamers… so it’d be far better on a system that could run it in 1080p without any hiccups.

          • companyoflosers

the wii version was an afterthought. it started development as a gamecube only game as was copy and pasted pretty much over to the wii. as for your belief that games cant run in 1080p on wii u, that would be completely untrue. there are plenty of games that run 1080p. bayonetta 2 will be running 1080p60fps when its out for example. so is smash bros and also contrary to what you have said, it looks multitudes better than brawl. idk if you need your sight checked or maybe how things look just doesnt matter as much to you but when i pop in a wii game that gets upscaled ad see how pixellated it is, its immersion breaking for me. yes the game still plays equally as good but that doesnt mean i enjoy playing it as much. wii u could totally handle a overhauled TP at 1080p and robly even at 60fps if they wanted to go that far. frame rate doesnt matter as much to me though so id forgive them if they didnt. you dont seem to show an informed knowlege of how he wii u works. it may be the weakr of the three consoles right now but it has pockets of power in unexpected places. its ram for example has twice the bandwidth that the xb1 has so it can pump out graphics at 1080p with no “hiccups”. oh a tp makes no use of analog triggers so it would be just fine on the wii u. you also make it sound as if nintendo will just pop out another home console any day now so waiting s no big deal which is not the case. nintendo is stubborn when it comes to power if the wii was any indication. they will drag it out for as long as they can so waiting for the next console really doesnt sound viable to me right now.

          • mario54671

I never said Wii U can’t run 1080p on Wii U. I said it can do it, but there’s a lot of compromise.

Bayonetta 2 was RUMORED to “aim” for 1080p, that doesn’t mean it’s GOING to be running at 1080p.

Wii games being “immersion breaking” due to the resolution is… well, a personal problem.

“wii u could totally handle a overhauled TP at 1080p and robly even at 60fps if they wanted to go that far. frame rate doesnt matter as much to me though so id forgive them if they didnt. you dont seem to show an informed knowlege of how he wii u works. it may be the weakr of the three consoles right now but it has pockets of power in unexpected places. its ram for example has twice the bandwidth that the xb1 has so it can pump out graphics at 1080p with no “hiccups”.”

Yeah, tell that to New Super Mario Bros. U, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Toki Tori 2 (a 2D game that tried 1080p, but they couldn’t get the framerate past 30fps), Pikmin 3 (which runs at 30fps), and, for fuck’s sake, Wind Waker HD. Yes, Wind Waker HD runs in 1080p, but it’s a barely-updated version visually from the GCN game, merely changing the resolution and adding some bloom effects… and despite being so close to the original visually… it BARELY handles 30fps on Wii U. There are several noticeable framerate dips at several points in the game.

“It has big numbers, therefore it must be able to do whatever I say it can”… sorry… no. Specs on paper ≠ real world results. And all these examples I’m giving you are DEFINITE PROOF of this.

“you also make it sound as if nintendo will just pop out another home console any day now so waiting s no big deal which is not the case. nintendo is stubborn when it comes to power if the wii was any indication. they will drag it out for as long as they can so waiting for the next console really doesnt sound viable to me right now.”

No, they’ll pop out another console around 5-6 years after launching the previous one. I say this based on… oh I don’t know… EVERY SINGLE CONSOLE THEY’VE RELEASED.

            NES 1985
            SNES 1991
            N64 1996
            GCN 2001
            Wii 2006
            Wii U 2012

“Doesn’t sound viable.” Okay, then fine. They just won’t remake the game. You’re making it seem like this is something they MUST do to make the Wii U survive. No… what the Wii U needs are ORIGINAL games designed for the Wii U. No more remakes. Remakes are a nice supplement, but if it’s not a good idea, then it’s just not a good idea. Twilight Princess simply shouldn’t be a priority because it’s already technically playable, and… I’m sorry, but it being “upscaled” isn’t a big enough reason for them to put in the effort in remaking the game for a THIRD console in a row.

    • Rinslowe

I still enjoy Ocarina of Time more. But for an HD remake as Ocarina already got a re-release on 3DS, then Twilight Princess would be a great idea!
I played through Twilight Princess again last year after quite a while… Solid Zelda gaming.

    • Sdudyoy

Twilight princess is my favorite video game of all time, I don’t know why I chose that Zelda game of them, but I love it.

      • Alexander Kleinwechter

Yup. its also my fave video game of all time :)

    • 00EpicGamer00

I love Twilight Princess as well. I don’t understand why they chose to “remake” Wind Waker instead of Twilight Princess. TP would of been a much better choice. I think, even though TP is newer than WW, TP has aged more. Wind Waker didn’t need an HD remake. Twilight Princess is the one that needed it.

  • Fred

Especially considering the fact that Nintendo hired an outside studio to do the WWHD remake so it really used up very little of Nintendo’s resources it just cost them some money. I’m sure some of these games would cover the costs of paying another studio to do it. I vote for Kirby Air Ride (never played it, but I’d love to) Mario Sunshine (my favorite 3D open world Mario game) Pacman Vs, Star Fox Adventures& Assault combo (yes I’d love to see both in one just like Metriod Prime Trilogy was all 3 in 1), Pikmin Trilogy, DK Jungle Beat, Fire Emblem, Viewtiful Joe, Star Wars Rogue Leader, and STar Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.

  • Steve

    I want Melee!

  • Ian Settlemyer

Super Smash Bros. Melee. That way, you can play all 4 home console games on the Wii U.

    • greengecko007

When was the N64 title released on the Wii U?

      • Jason

You have to go to Wii Mode to get Smash 64.

    • companyoflosers

idk about smash bros. dont get me wrong, its a great game but with the new one about to come out, aside from the character differences they are all essentially the same game with roster changes and slight tweaks. still gonna buy the hell out of the new one but a rerelease would only work as a simple port to eshop with no internal game changes like textures or anything just for those few who would actually buy that. smash bros is different than those games that have actual stories and arent there just for multiplayer.

  • Lunatic

You know they rereleased Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime on the Wii, right? I feel like that severely limits their chances of being ported over to a new console. Again.

  • mojack411

While I’m all for HD re-releases of these games, I have to say that Nintendo has to be careful of not making the Wii U a place for remakes. The Wii U needs new games right now. A HD remake of Sunshine would definitely help but remaking the other ones in addition is too much. It’s less about development time and resources and more about the Wii U’s current image.

  • Squid

I think XD is better than Colleseum in my opinion.

  • lonewolf

Resident evil 4 got a hd version on other systems, you can play metroid prime on the wii u trough the metroid prime collection. The only title they can really port it over in hd and remake it is shper mario sunshine because half of those games already need new instalments in the series.

  • Joshua V.

Paper Mario Thousand Year Door would also make a great game tip have on the WiiU

  • TobyObey

How did they not mention Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door!? It was even the best game in the series!

  • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

    1. Skies of Arcadia either hd remake or a sequal I loved it.
    2. Eternal Darkness
    3. Baiten Katos and Baiten Katos 2. Especially 2 as in Europe we missed out on it, sadly never released here. Metroid Prime I agree but even more so Metroid Prime 2. Liked MP2 the most my personal favorite Prime game, other then that the whole list up there.

    • Lil J Moore

Baiten Katos and Baiten Katos Origins would be amazing. Two highly underrated RPG’s that deserve another chance.

Why is F-Zero GX not on this list? I mean, it beats most of these games by a mile if you ask me.

  • Tecpedz94

Supper Mario sunshine and most of those oh god!! If this happens ill have no life so make it happens slowly.

  • mario54671

The problem with Super Mario Sunshine and Luigi’s Mansion is that they both utilize the analog triggers of the GameCube controller, and these simply don’t exist on the Wii U. You can’t play the game the same way without the analog triggers, they’d be incompatible.

Nintendo can either release a new GameCube-like controller to specifically play GameCube games on Wii U Virtual Console, OR they could simply remake the games that do utilize the analog triggers… OR update the GamePad to address these concerns. All of these solutions are a bit messy, but clamoring for Nintendo to simply just port all the GCN games to Virtual Console is just an asinine demand, as there are several technical limitations.

Personally, I hope they just remake these games in HD and design them around the GamePad.

Zelda Twilight Princess is also a Wii game. Just pop that game in instead.

      • companyoflosers

upscaling looks like shit. its nothing compared to what the game would look like completely overhauled like wind waker was. TP was originally meant to be a gamecube exclusive but they hastily ported it to wii as a last minute decision so theres no graphical difference between the wii and gamecube versions. it needs a remake!

        • mario54671

It DOESN’T need a remake NOW! It’s too soon! Upscaling may look horrible, but it’s really not worth Nintendo’s effort to get Twilight Princess released on THREE generations of consoles in a row all in the name of avoiding “shitty upscaling” for two people out there who actually WANT an HD remake rather than being content with playing the Wii game instead.

Besides, upscaling looks like shit… so what, they should just remake every Wii game in existence? That’s really stupid.

  • ZeldaFan83

The only titles in this lost that I agree with would be Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Sunshine and the complete trilogy of Metroid Prime!!

  • raindog469

Can’t argue with most of your picks, #1 especially, but are my girl and I really the only ones who want a sequel (or even just an HD remake) of Chibi-Robo? What a wonderful, unique adventure that was. The DS and 3DS sequels available in the US haven’t lived up to its greatness, but a nice, deep console game with all that extra disk space could be incredible.

I imagine it wasn’t popular enough for that, though.

  • Kaleb

NO MORE MARIO GAMES …… for a while anyways

  • Pablo Lavín

    Tales of Symphonia….

    • C4

      It’s on PS3 – Tales of Symphonia Chronicles ;)

  • desgraciado79

Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door would be my #1. I love that game.

I would like to see an HD Medal of Honor: Frontline remake. That is another I just replayed over and over and over.

    And Donkey Konga! Just kidding.

  • david jarman

Second sight would be awesome with gamepad features! Please, Nintendo and Crytek?!
Since we’re asking…Sega can we have the Shenmue series?

  • http://nintendopapercraftvideos.wordpress.com/ Sam

    F-ZERO GXHD.

  • Geoffrey Tasker

Star Fox adventures was poorly received, with the wii metroid prime trilogy don’t bet on it, same goes for resident evil 4, pokemon coli would be pointless due to its being severely outdated roster wise, and phantasy star while I’d love to play it with a decent online that is a I don’t see anyone putting up the effort to actually keep track of it.

    Luigi’s mansion
    Mario sunshine
    Animal crossing
And Kirby ride I can see happening

    The rest are unlikely

    I’d Love rogue squadron
    A pikmin collection
    Double dash
    Twilight Princess
    Baten kaitos
    F zero gx
    eternal darkness
    Tales of symphonia
    And yeah Mario sunshine

If we are talking hd remixes

I’d also love to see a special Addition game cube style pro controller

  • ExtremeFeminist293

Actually, Animal Crossing started out on N64 as Dobutsu no Mori (Animal Forest) and was released in Japan. The game was ported to the GameCube and released worldwide later.

  • thedeciderU

meh. i doubt i’d buy another remake unless it was a super mario bros. game. even then, at my most nostalgic, i may just play all my old carts. can’t shake the old platformers.

  • Ian Oliver

I’d rather see Nintendo use their resources on something completely new as opposed to continuously putting out remake after remake (barring Majora’s Mask 3D, I really want that game).

  • GariNGB

I would love to see Luigi’s Mansion on the Wii U. Whether its a HD version of the old GameCube title or a brand new one for the series, I wouldn’t mind either way.

Come to think of it, all of those titles that you’ve listed would be amazing if they ever were released on the Wii U.

  • Spike Ashford

Agree with all, except for Luigi’s Mansion and that abomination called Resident Evil 4.

  • GFresh

how can skies of arcadia not be on the list

  • JellyB.

How about Nintendo makes NEW games instead of porting old ones?

  • cool1706

    There’s a rumor of a super Mario sunshine 2 for Wii u

  • companyoflosers

i do believe you missed twilight princess on here. a MUCH/ better game than wind waker was but unfortunately due to its less cartoony graphics, it hasnt aged as well.

  • leo

Nintendo will probably be like ehhh we will make it 2 years from now

  • Saul Rivera

Resident Evil Remake would be my top pick….along others not mentioned like Skies of Arcadia…Twilight Princess…Rogue Squadron…Ikaruga….well I can go on…but still…
Resident Evil Remake..or hell…Capcom should do this on their own and release it along Resident Evil Zero as a RE: The Beginnings or whatever they want to call it!

  • http://wiiudaily.com/ Colin Malone

How come I never got asked which game I’d want to see on Wii U? Well whatever.

I’d love to see F-Zero GX get on Wii U since it was pretty much my favorite game for the GameCube. I’d also love to see Tales of Symphonia get a Wii U port, or even if they were to make a whole new Tales game for the system, since the Tales series is amazing! Also Baten Kaitos and it’s prequel were amazingly under appreciated titles for the system and it’d be awesome to see them get remade for the Wii U as well. It’d also be nice to see Custom Robo get a new entry on the system since that was another one of my favorite GameCube games.

  • Rinslowe

BTW, this is a great article right here!!
    Sure beats debating over Iwata-san.
    :P

  • ZeldaFanzzzz

Awesome list!! I would definitely buy Pokemon Colossuem and Mario Sunshine.

  • Logan Wayman

I want to see Super Smash Bros. Melee HD on the Wii U.

  • devmiles

  • EmperorIng1268

    Metroid Prime 2 Echoes!!

  • Dan

I want an HD Super Mario 64. A good title for it would be Super Mario 1080. It’s in 1080p so it would be a good name. A Super Mario Sunshine HD would awesome too though.

    • C4

      Super Mario 1080 Snowboarding! :P

Well, here’s the newest petition available for getting support for a Sunshine HDmake. Get to it! http://www.change.org/petitions/nintendo-super-mario-sunshine-hd-remake-wii-u

    • GariNGB

No offence, but Nintendo don’t even acknowledge online petitions, let alone actually do anything about it.

      • xXFloydianXx

Yeah, that comment Reggie made regarding petitions…that’s just PR talk. Obviously, Nintendo at least acknowledges them or that OP: Rainfall petition wouldn’t have worked. Fact is, if they don’t think 10,000 sigs equals at least 3/4 of that amount of sales, they won’t do it. It all just depends.

  • Adecentboy777

1-2 of them should be brought to Wii U :)

  • Shaise

I WANT A SEQUEL FOR SPONGEBOB CREATURE FROM THE KRUSTY KRAB!!!! Seriously, now that Activision has the license cant they do it with Nickelodeon???? I know this isn’t a Nintendo exclusive game. Just wanted to express my feelings.

  • Officer Raichu

I know, you probably won’t believe me but I want to share the informations I got with you.

I’m from Germany and I know a good friend who works at Nintendo in Großostheim. A part of the restructure progress of Nintendo is to have deep contract with all their HQ’s to make sure everything is fully scheduled regardless of which country.

They are working pretty hard with Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Japan for the E3 and he got some great informations for me, because he knows I’m a big fan. So believe me or not, I really don’t care. Of course he can’t reveal all of it, but he allowed me to have a sneak peak at their plans for E3 2014.

    – The Digital Event is completely different from a regular direct, it features a stage and a audience which are 80+ knownless fans invited from Nintendo to a special room. They will make it atmospheric as they can, Reggie, Iwata, Aonuma etc are on stage, furthermore it will have a changing background with fog machines etc. So you truly won’t miss the old conferences

    – Nintendo will announce Zelda U, he said it’s going to be the game we are waiting for, very big world, fully filled with many secrets and life, it will feature a more stylized tech demo look, it has a more mature storyline and sidequests similar to Majoras Mask, complex dungeons and there’s a very cool feature which will drive the Zelda series so much forward. That’s the informations I could get out of him!

    – he said “Nintendo will finally announce many comebacks from old IPs we are waiting for and they will blow your mind”. (I guess FZero, Metroid, Starfox etc? )

    – Nintendo will announce some new IP’s, two casual IPs in the vein of Nintendogs and Wii Sports , the others are hardcore IPs in the Zelda, Metroid league and there is even one IP which will appeal to the CoD/BF audience with Nintendo gameplay. (NICE!! Nobody needs new casual IPs though, glad there are also some new hardcore IPs!)

    – There is one cancelled project that was previously announced (? Don’t really get what he means)

    – Besides of that, they will also show many new 3DS games and a new hardware!

    – He said QoL will be discussed on a seperate event at E3 time (maybe one treehouse livestream?) to appeal to the right audience.

    – There are some remakes (Majoras Mask??!?)

    – Iwata will talk a little about his mistakes

    – It’s planned to have a lot of charming jokes like you saw in the Reggie Fils A Mech video

    – There will be a BIG surprise at the end that will completely blow ur mind!

That’s all I got out from him, I will keep you updated so please stay tuned. I fully understand if you believe this is a joke, I for one would think that too if I would be a reader, but I just deliver the information to you, it’s really not a joke.

Happy discussing! EDIT: This is from a german who is active on ign(i saw the original comment and copied it

    • Hobo

Doubt it’s true but I sure hope so!

      • Officer Raichu

yeah its a rumor but it could happen we wont know untill e3 of course

    • iamserious

I think Nintendo already denounced any new hardware being shown at E3. All the other things you said sound too good to be true except for that cancelled project part. Hopefully Nintendo really does come into this year’s E3 with arms a swingin! :-)

    • Rinslowe

IF you’re wrong about Zelda I will invade your town with my dual wielding power mittens and fluffy slippers + maybe the odd Molotov cocktail!!!
      >:)

    • Jon Turner

I’m not putting so much stock in this rumor, but I do hope the success of MK8 and the E3 leads to a renewed interest frmo thirds, especially on the JRPG front. I still am rooting for KH3 on WiiU.

  • Airron

Shadows of the Empire, nuff said

    • Leo

Yes! I love that game so much!

  • William Cole

:O Did Super Mario Sunshine really look that good on GC! I forgot!

Anyway, I think Tales of Symphonia should make that list.

  • DragonSilths

Starfox Assault is far better then StarFox Adventures.

  • Brandon

no f-zero gx wow you suck and so does your list. :P

  • candyisgood

Isn’t Starfox Adventures another one of those “in limbo” games because Rare developed it? Pardon the ignorance but I can’t seem to figure that one out. Too many wrong answers floating around

    • 00EpicGamer00

Umm, yeah. Rare helped make Starfox adventures. Though, I don’t see how it’d be a problem for Nintendo to remake it. Starfox Adventures is Nintendo’s game. Not Rare’s. Nintendo, I think, released all three Donkey Kong Country games on the Wii virtual console. They have been taken down, but I don’t think Nintendo got into any trouble, over it.

  • Archiq09

I want see geist too … same if it’s not best horror/fps maked it’s lisenced by nintendo… I want see too eternal darkness.

  • nintendogamer1

STOP THE BACKWARDS BULLSHIT AND BRING OUT SOME NEW GAMES!!!

  • ICHI

Eternal Darkness, F-Zero Gx, 1080 avalanche, killer 7 and Billy Hatcher? Oh and MGS Twin Snakes.

    • Wilks

Twin Snakes was awful, why would you want it to have another release?

      • ICHI

Awww well believe it or not, I didn’t feel that way about the game, hence it being in my list ;-)

  • Yong Woo Kim

    Baten kaitos

  • Jason

A new Super Mario Sunshine, Kirby Air Ride, Animal Crossing, and Starfox would all be great for the Wii U (GameCube ports would be nice, but I have a GameCube, I’d rather new games). I feel like there’s not enough 1st Party titles for the Wii U, which sucks because they are supposed to be its selling point. Right now all that’s really out is Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario 3D World, and Pikmin 3 (Its hard to really count New Super Mario Bros U as a new game). If you count upcoming Smash and MKWii that’s still a little crazy that’s there’s only 5 games for Wii U by 2015. My 3DS has at least 20.

  • http://gentlerobot.com/ Gentle Robot

I’d rather see all the weird shit than the default first party hits. The only reason your list didn’t reach ten is because WInd Waker’s already out.

Baten Kaitos, DK, Viewtiful Joe, Beyond Good & Evil, hell I’d rather see Wave Race before Mario Sunshine.

  • Ducked

I love these kind of articles on Wii U Daily, I hope to see more.

  • Jon Turner

What? No sign of TALES OF SYMPHONIA? For shame! That was one of my favorite GameCube titles and one of my favorite JRPGs of all time. If we can’t get the Symphonia Chronicles HD revamp then at least the original on VC would suffice.

    • 00EpicGamer00

Is this what you’re talking about?

      http://www.gamefly.com/Rent-Tales-of-Symphonia-Chronicles/5006032/

If so, than this is an HD revamp of Tales of Symphonia. It’s not on Wii U or Wii but it is a thing, at least.

      • Jon Turner

Yeah, that’s what I meant. I’d rather have the original GC version on WiiU VC than that though.

        • 00EpicGamer00

          Oh okay. Gotcha.

    • Leo

Tales of Symphonia is so awesome! I absolutely loved that game!

  • gamingpalooza

Geist would be an interesting HD remake for Wii U because i think the touch screen would make the game way better.

  • gamingpalooza

a new excite truck/bots should be on wii u as well, that game was heavily underrated.

  • Leo

I wouldn’t say that Resident Evil 4 is a prime example of the Resident Evil franchise roots. Resident Evil 4 is a very good game but it basically paved the way to the current downfall of the franchise. The last real Resident Evil was Resident Evil 0.

  • Mark Priest

Resident evil 4! Needs to b on wii u. Im buying my first wii u on may 30th with mario kart bundled. I cant wait. Gonna buy ducktales remasterd. Super luigi u. Zombie u. Walking dead and donky kong tf. Cant wait for X!! and bagonetta 2.

  • Green

    I’d also like to see
    Sonic Adventure 2
    Twilight Princess
    Fire Emblem
    Fzero GX

  • nics83

    “Zelda: Majora’s Mask” ;-)

  • Wilks

Mario Sunshine is still my favourite GameCube game! ♥

  • PachterStation

I totally disagree. Nintendo fans want bucket loads of AAA games, not remakes. If you want to play old games, go back to old consoles. When you consider that HD remakes take around 6 months to knock out, charging £40 isn’t justified. Don’t settle for 10 year old slops. Zelda HD flopped on the Wii U. But Nintendo have to keep the Wii U going somehow.

  • J_Joestar

    Skies of Arcadia

  • Sǯdi Sǻymeh

a sequel or game like “pokemon XD: gale of darkness”

    • Anon

Never played this, but if it’s like Pokemon Stadium, then yea, I need it.

      • 00EpicGamer00

You’d like it then. Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness is basically like Pokemon Stadium, but with a story.

        • Sǯdi Sǻymeh

it is , i really want a game like it , but with better catching pokemons system :D

      • Sǯdi Sǻymeh

it is like stadium , but with better graphics and nice story , although catching pokemons is not like the ordinary way , but it is a fun game
and if you played it with emulator you’ll get better graphics

  • ludist210

I’d take the original Animal Crossing. It had more charm than City World/Wild Folk (they were basically the same game) combined.

Also, #2. Pretty sure you meant Dragon Quest X, not IX. But please port this. Heck, just port Blue Burst.

  • LukeMM95

HD remakes are nice every once in a while but I’m more interested in seeing some new games. Plus I’d be more excited if Nintendo announced that Gamecube AND N64 games were coming to the Virtual Console.

  • SnappyJon

I still have a Gamecube, and I still play my Gamecube games on it. They look and play just great.

The Wii U needs new games, not remakes. Sure, Nintendo could make sequels to the titles mentioned, that would be VERY welcome, but let’s not get caught up in just wanting old games re-released.

An eShop release of Gamecube games would be welcome, but no need to remaster them for HD.

  • stealth20k

    Nice picks.

  • Austin Cabrera

No Paper Mario Thousand year door, twilight princess, pikmin? What kind of list is this?

  • Screenie

Zelda Four Swords surely?! Perfect for the Wii U.

  • Zach Cruz

You can homebrew youre wii u in wii mode to play gamecube games and you can play them with a pro controller.. I been playing PSO on my wii u and I am able to connect to schtserv to play online with it..

    • chris

Isn’t it physically impossible for the Wii U to accept a GCN disc? I want to play F-Zero GX

      • Zach Cruz

you play the game running off a sd card or usb storage device. I burned the image using my wii to burn to the sd card then i popped it in my wii U and was able to play. lots of tutorials on youtube. Wii U Devolution is what you’ll want to look up
