Hyrule Warriors launching August 14 in Japan

hyrule-warriors

The new issue of Famitsu magazine in Japan has new juicy details about Hyrule Warriors, including a release date. The game is headed to the Wii U on August 14 in Japan and is being developed by two studios instead of one. Omega Force is the main studio and the developer of most of the original Dynasty Warriors games, but Team Ninja of Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden fame are also helping work on the series.

The magazine stated that Hisashi Koinuma and Yosuke Hayasahi are serving as producers as the game, while Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma supervises the project. Details for the story of the game aren’t revealed beyond Zelda being kidnapped by a witch named Shia, which starts Link’s quest to rescue her.

Wow awesome for japan! Hope it’ll be released here soon! I’ll be buying it !

    • matthew garcia

Maaaan I was hoping for a better storyline then having to go rescue the princess. How many times has Nintendo rescued the princess lol

      • Daniel Gonzalez

More times than I can remember. The formula has been done to death. Lol.

        • matthew garcia

Yeah it’s like if it’s the 90′s still

          • Daniel Gonzalez

It is in NIntendo’s mind apparently.

      • J_Joestar

There should be more games like Super Princess Peach, where (like in Soviet Russia) Princess Rescues You!.

        • matthew garcia

Ha lol that would be a nice change

  • therealruben1

    Cant wait for this game!

  • Arthur Jarret

Like ‘X’, it’ll be released within 2014 for the other territories as well, as stated in the financial meeting addendum (on page 6) on the Nintendo (of Japan) press site.

    • Fred

THANK-YOU for brightening my day by mentioning X. Yes, I think there’s a chance I’ll enjoy Hyrule Warriors, but Xenoblade is my all time favorite game so I’m more excited for X than I’ve been for any game since I was in Jr. High

      • Rinslowe

Yeah X is going to be a time sink. I’m expecting people to call the police as they wonder where I ended up for 2 months… :)

  • Seth S. Scott

Definitely excited to try this one although I am still skeptical about it. Will judge it when its in my hands.

  • Michael Kelso

I’m super excited for this and I don’t know why

    • Rinslowe

I think you have the wrong title.
That was Kratos and she was a goddess not a princess…
      {}(-_o){}

    Heres the official Japanese logo

Would give everything in the world to look at the faces of all fans when Nintendo announces that THIS is the Zelda game that will come to Wii U.

      • http://facebook.com/validgraphics val berger

        Please understand …

      • Kobe

Im 100% sure that it isn’t

      • The Clockwork Being

Oh gosh Magnus that would be freaking hilarious!

      • kevin nun—-

I thought Nintendo mentioned in the Direct that this appeared on that it was a side project.

      • sd

I am pretty sure they will release another Wii U Zelda game. Either at the end of 2015 or in 2016. But if things don’t improve then I also think it will be the last big game for the Wii U before they release their next console.

Either way I will keep my Wii U until I have played X.

        • FutureFox

          Bingo!

        • Nicolas Dorion

You are right, this is not the next game in the Zelda franchise, this is just a spin-off developed by Omega Force (Tecmo Koei), the guys who did the “Dynasty Warriors” series. A Zelda game made by Nintendo and led by Eiji Aonuma will eventually come, and it will be a real game in the franchise, not a hack and slash spin-off.

      • ben

Japanese fans seem to be over the moon with it. It is the most anticipated game of the year in Japan. Western audiences may hate this series of games, however, they make a lot of money.

  • Nostalgic_Chaos

Not extremely hyped for it if I’m completely honest. Feels like it’s just going to be a ‘filler’ game just to shut us up from crying about Zelda U and how long it’s taking etc… Don’t get me wrong, I’ll pick it up just because I want to expand my overall Wii U games library, but if it’s just a generic ‘hack & slash’ game, then that’s really something I can go and get anywhere. Dynasty Warriors with a Zelda skin… Sorry to deflate the hype. Just keeping it real.

However……… Mario Kart 8 next week, bitches!!

    • abe

Anybody expecting anything more than a Zelda dynasty warriors game should pay more attention. Though it being Co-developed by team ninja is interesting as is that aunoma is watching over it. I suspect it will be more a Zelda Mod than a Zelda skin pack

And yes Mario Kart is so damn close!

    • Rinslowe

I’m definitely interested but yeah, not quite hyped. It feels a little awkward how they present the games progress at E3 and showing the true next Zelda title. But I’m sure it’ll work out.

    • steveb944

I agree. I was hyped but with this short a development time I’m thinking ~10 hr play time, meaning I can beat it in a weekend. Maybe I should wait for a sale or price drop if it lacks a lot of content.

    • Magnus Gonzalez

agreed. At worst it will be filler. So that’s promising. But it could be great. So let’s hold out hope that Team Ninja addition means higher quality

    • Michael Hancock

Filler, I don’t think so. Games like this can be very fun. Remember Mystic Warriors on Gamecube? I am excited about Mariokart-but I am even more excited about Hyrule Warriors. Mariokart is burnt out, at least it will be after this installation. Hyrule Warriors doesn’t look like a “generic hack & slash” game. It looks tactical. The fact that it has a “Zelda skin”, is utterly secondary to me. This should be a special game. Especially since nobody in the USA will pay attention to it. Games “feel” better that way. They’re more like a secret and very personal. Unlike Mariokart, which will be everyone’s favorite game-12 year olds will hone their skills all day long and pwnd you online. Not my idea of a good time. I’d rather play Valhalla Knights for the Wii. Jesus Christ, what an amazing game. It is the ugliest, most unpolished game you have ever seen. But also one of the most charming and engrossing. It shines in almost every other category. Customization has never been seen on a level like this. It brushes upon topics like life after death, rape, and child abuse. There is barely a guide on the internet and the whole game feels like a secret. Games are always better when they are made by a small group of people with amazing ideas for a certain type of person. How could a game like Mariokart, who’s sole purpose and design is to obtain as many dollar bills as possible-ever be as significant as Diddy Kong Racing? I guess that’s just how I like my art. “The rare for the rare”. Mariokart? I am more excited about Two Brothers and Shovel Knight.

      • Michael Hancock

      • Darius

“ugliest, most unpolished game you have ever seen” you must not remember zelda cdi do you? lol

  • RyuNoHadouken

i have a weird feeling this is gonna be shovelware

    • Fred

I’m hoping you’re wrong, but we have no way of knowing until we know more about the game. Hopefully we’ll learn more during E3

  • palomino blue

Sounds like we’ll get a US release date at E3 then.

  • Fred

I think there’s a chance I’ll like this game. I’ve never played a Dynasty Warriors game and I’m hoping that this will be a half step above a Dynasty Warriors game as they’re getting help from Nintendo.

    • Bob Charlie

You’re in a good spot if you have never played a DW game because everything will be fresh for you!

  • Cyrus Malachi

When they first showed this game and I seen link with that scarf it got me thinking. I seen a pic of him like that before. So went looking through the hurtle historia and in the back there is a comic and shows not only link wearing a scarf in that manner, but it also told the story of hyrule before the events of skyward sword. So I’m calling it now. This game will be the origin story which brings about the legend of Zelda.

    • Alan Michael Hensley

dude, i had the same thought as you. I couldn’t remember where i saw that from, but damnit, you’re right, lol

      • Cyrus Malachi

If I’m right the story to this game is going to epic. Which I have a feeling I am. Lol I will get the game just for that.

  • jjbredesen

Can’t wait for this game, expecting a lot of news at E3, will be the year of Zelda!

I am actually really hyped for this game, and it looks like a cool twist for a Zelda game, yes it is a filler title, but i think it will be a good one, after all Nintendo does not let anyone use one of there 1.st party IP’s without it being fantastic.

    • bob

Yeah, not like those other third party zelda games that were awesome. Wand of gameleon or whatever it is was the best zelda yet. **puke**

      • abe

Oracle of seasons is regarded as one of the best Zelda games and that was made by capcom

        • Colt Lokk

          also minish cap!

        • bob

I’m just saying it isn’t always a slam dunk. this could be a great game, but it could also be trash. Hopefully they kept enough zelda elements to make it not just another DW rehash. MotionPlus sword would be nice.

    • sd

This is all they need to do. The game does not need to appeal to everyone but it is a different game type for the Wii U and that is very much needed. That is a good thing as they need broad appeal to sell the console. Also i suspect this will sell consoles in Japan.

  • ActivesiN

I have not seen enough about this game to get excited, hopefully at E3 they show us way more

  • TCar

    Want this game!

  • Steve Rees

I’m starting to wish Nintendo would do more worldwide releases. Also less Japan only releases. The amount of previous games that I can’t play without spending a fortune is unreal. Why am I waiting until next year for MH 4 for instance.

Anyways, this is lookin interesting, I hope it gets a UK release date at E3 too.

    • Carl Fin

      This will be released worldwide.

    • Donaald

If this wasn’t worldwide why would they announce it in an American ND?

  • Mario

So this game is canon to the Zelda timeline?

They make money of it, and there could be potential viruses etc.

    • http://Website.com Shane Michaels

You copy that link in so many of your comments. Where does it go? Is it a true virus, or you are merely redirecting to something pointless?

  • Derek

I’m actually excited for this game. It seems to have been made in a quick amount of time.

  • Elvis Michael

This game has hardly been talked about (no new footage, etc.). Thats why some games hardly sell.

  • Elenora Tazia

So if Link gets an armor, will he still be looking in green pajamas?

  • FutureFox

    ….

    • Decker Shado

Soo… I know language evolves and everything, but let me make sure I’m getting this right.

Old: Shovelware = microscopic budget games only meant to make money. Possibly via deceptive packaging, or tie-ins with popular media. Usually released on specific platforms based on reaching a large audience.

New: Shovelware = any game I’m not interested in.

Is this kind of like that other linguistic evolution I noticed recently?

Old: Vaporware = Software/Hardware that is shown off at press events, but after years pass is never released, ever.

New: Vaporware = Anything that’s not out yet.

      • FutureFox

Perhaps I should have used this instead. Its sparkling new!

        • Keronos

But you still be wrong, because not being interested in a game is not shovelware

          • FutureFox

Its shovelware to me because I feel as though this game has no reason to exist (actually I’ll expand on this later). Many have already said its DW with Zelda skin. I find that boring, uninspired and exactly as others interested in the game have said, “it’ll tie me over….” until the real main Zelda title.

I feel shovelware is more of the process that results in the title being made.

Some company wants an action game and are out of ideas so they seek to make a movie in to a game. In essence all the plot, characters and mechanics are practically there. Just make it into a game.

I feel this is the same thing. Nintendo wants an action game that is theirs alone. They’re out of ideas or just not that talented in the action game genre. So they tap Koei to bring such a game over to their platform. But just like the above practice with movies, they’re taking a formula that already exists and re-skinning it.

I will also add that nuances in games can make the difference as well between shovel and non-shovel games. CoD and BF3 are in the same genre but play differently. Same with Resident Evil and Silent Hill (famous creepy camera effects). But HW from the looks of it and given how quickly it was developed (red flag) will be more or DW in everyway shape and form.

In nutshell shovelware to me is: “We need X. Let’s instead take everything already established in Y to make Z. In stead of: “Let’s build X.” and the discussion would end there.

One more thing, even unique games can become shovelware by poor execution where people just don’t buy it. Price drops ensue and obscurity follows. People’s exhibit A: Hydrophobia.

          • Bob Charlie

Is Shovel Knight going to become shovelware?!

          • FutureFox

That has been on my mind because of the title. : )

I don’t know a whole lot about the game. But I will say from first hearing about it I found it the concept silly. But after seeing some footage I get kind of the same feeling from Castle Crashers where it may look silly but the gameplay footage showed there was a sense the developers crafted an interesting, very fun game and gave it polish. Adding polish to a game is a sign of self respect and passion the devs have toward product. CC had a weird art style but it was polished and played as such.

From what I’ve only seen briefly with SK is polish in looks and possibly with the gameplay as well.

But again I have no idea, and everyone obviously has different tastes and measures on what is or is not shovelware.

Per my own example I feel more incline to say though SK borrows small gaming elements from multiple games it doesn’t take all their inspiration from one source, like a movie-to-game does. Similar as HW is doing with betting the farm so to speak by taking all elements from Dynasty Warriors as a heavy sauce base and sprinkling the familiar Zelda troupes. Bombs et al.

  • Bob Greenfield

“Team Ninja of Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden fame are also helping work on the series.”

    guys
    guys
    guys
    guys

*sniff* First Metroid, and now Zelda? I’m gonna go crawl in a hole and die now. Goodbye everyone… *sniff* *sniff*

    • Decker Shado

I hope they don’t.. but… when I read “Team Ninja” the thought that crossed my mind was Zelda in panties and a sparkly negligee bouncing as she is kidnapped “ooh, help me, Link!” and Link smashing a boulder in half with a upward swing of the Master sword, shouting in a James Earl Jones voice “I’ll save you, princess!”

      ….my mind terrifies me, sometimes…

  • WarioForever

What, guys? It looks great, especially if it has multiplayer. And I’ll be playing that before the real Zelda is out.

  • TULFich

All Hail Zelda MUSO!!!! (that is how you read those kanjis)

  • john albert

I know this is going to just be Dynasty Warriors with a new coat of paint, but I’m looking forward to it. http://bit.ly/GamesElectronice

  • LordiMcKill

Definitely need to tag it with The Legend of Zelda title so people will actually know what it is.

  • wiimenonowiiu

    Its a great time killer

  • darkcreap

Great!!! Even if it is not a proper Zelda, I am eagerly awaiting for it!!!

  • Froakiefan8

Noooo! I was hoping to be able to play as zelda too and use her magic to use some intense attacks, oh well, link stills seems to have some powerful magic in this game.

    • Decker Shado

Same.. I wanted to play as Zelda, a Zoran, a Goran.. maybe a Floran?

      …oh, wait, wrong game.

  • Rich Garriques

soo….. team ninja is working on this game as well. WHY HAVNT I SEEN A DEAD OR ALIVE GAME ON WII U YET? I DONT UNDERSTAND?

  • bistricky

Awesome ….. can’t wait to get this game when it comes to North America ….. Cheers :D

  • sd

That’s pretty quick. It makes me wonder whether this game was in development already when Nintendo approached them and said “hey lets replace the main character with Zelda”. An attempt to placate those waiting for games while trying to create hype for the system. Not sure if this game appeals to me, but if it seems good after release then I might buy it.

  • ben

The Treasure box comes with Links scarf.. But it is $140…
