Mario Kart 8 surpasses the PS4 on Amazon best seller list

mario-kart-8ps4

With all the hype surrounding the release of Mario Kart 8, it looks like fans are eating up the chance to pre-order the game. Over the weekend, Mario Kart 8 surpassed the PS4 in terms of best sellers on Amazon’s video game section. It’s back behind the PS4 right now at number 6, but as more teaser videos and the release date get closer, we expect Mario Kart 8 to jump up a few more spots. Currently it’s sitting at number 1 in the Wii U category and has been for a few months now, so people are definitely excited about getting their hands on the game.

Outside of the United States the game has been performing well, too. Amazon Japan saw Mario Kart 8 sitting above the PlayStation 4 as well on its charts shortly after the Nintendo Direct last week. With 32 playable tracks, 30 characters and several vehicle customization features, we’re super excited about this release, too.

That will push the Wii U up by like, 2K per weeks, and nothing more I guess.

Still a day one for me.

  • Frankie

It is good to see people are excited for the game, but realistically this is not impressive. A game should be higher than a console outside of the initial launch, especially a game like Mario Kart.

  • http://www.17bits.cl/ IronicSonic

But Wii U is ranked 48 and descending…

Maybe people waiting for the MK8 Wii U Bundle

    • Gabe Hoffman

I don’t think Amazon carries the bundle at the moment. I hear the bundle has been doing really well on Gamestop

  • Ultrasyd

What matters is how it will push the console sells. Not long before the release now !
I watch the Direct almost everyday with my son :p

  • Ducked

Wii U deserves to outsell PS4 and Xbone this month and in June. Nintendo has really made some big mistakes, but Wii U has much better software then both consoles combined. This PS4 guy might sound a little Nintendo fanboy’ish but, Go Nintendo!

    • matthew garcia

This just shows how well ps4 is doing. A console that cost 399.00 is beating a game that is 50 or 60 bucks

      • Ducked

Well not only that, Wii U and Xbox One both have there consoles bundled with games to push sales. PS4 comes by itself, and honestly doesn’t bring anything new to the next generation, yet there outselling both consoles by a good amount. Its a bit strange why so many people jumped on the PS4 bandwaggon. At E3 last year, Sony said games will be there main focus and revealed some pretty big titles. But all of those big titles are at least a year away, yet people still can’t wait to get there hands on a console that has no games. Wii U has a good line up of software, if they had more third party games, then Wii U would be stacked.

        • matthew garcia

Very true but besides a few games ps4 and Xbox one have the exact same library of games. The thing is that ps4 performs those games better. The hardware might be a good reason why it’s selling

          • Ducked

Exactly. PS4 is $100 cheaper than Xbox One, so that gives it a boost over the Xbox since hardware is basically the same. For someone who has never liked Xbox, I admit, Xbox One has a better library of exclusives right now then PS4. Microsoft screwed up with kinect, they shouldn’t have added it, now they have to look at dropping the price and keep kinect in, and that eats money away for them. Not only that, Microsoft wants to leave the console wars with Xbox. I think by the end of the year, Wii U will make its first real impact with Smash and MK8. Everyone will see PS4 and Wii U as the console to own. People are already sold on PS4, when it actually gets games, the machine could be printing money. Wii U will probably have the best software at the end of this gen, but I see it coming in 2nd place. The Wii U deserves to be a success despite Nintendo’s game delays, and failure to advertise it.

          • matthew garcia

I completely agree. I’m not completely sold on Wii u getting 2nd place though just cuz Americans are console gamers and there choosing Xbox over Wii u. Not sure why but Americans seem to be forgetting about Mario and friends. The culture now just doesn’t seem to like family friendly games anymore.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Being American, not exactly true. Myself and my friends have been fans of Nintendo for years, but when Sony came around, it just shifted. Speaking for myself personally, I just don’t find Mario as appealing as I once did as a kid or even a teen. It’s not to say I hate the little guy, only that I got over it. Gamers like myself just move on and our tastes change. I still like Star Fox and Metroid. Smash is certainly fun, but I don’t consider myself that type of gamer that goes ape shit over Mario or even Zelda.

It’s just a different market now. The culture changed. Of course, this depends on what age group you’re talking about as there are plenty of kids that buy Mario games.

          • Rinslowe

I think Mario is intelligently marketed like many Disney products to all ages. And it does so based on many factors with nostalgia being perhaps the least prevalent…
Age group for Mario is varied and will be for some time as with the true audience for Nintendo’s franchises in general.
I’m not sure how it can be defined to just a certain demographic actually.
I get that you’ve expressed “personal opinion” as a reason and that’s cool. Yet the last paragraph is maybe somewhat assuming, IMO.

          • matthew garcia

I don’t know any kids that want Mario to be honest with you. I think the grown men who grew up with Nintendo want it the most lol. I kinda grew out of Mario when I was like 18

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Around the same age for me as well. Nintendo wise, I just like Star Fox and Metroid. That’s about it unless their next ip interests me.

          • Officer Raichu

            yeah
i have only one problem with sony right now
(not keeping kh3 and ff16 exclusives -_- there just gonna flop on xbox one since no rpgs sell well on that kind of platform)

        • oontz

Ps4 has been out for only 5 months.

      • cthreep

You realize that a game will never out-sell its console, right? That would mean that people are buying games without even owning the console.

        • matthew garcia

Considering that ps4 has been out since November and the game is barely about to be released I feel Mario kart kart should be winning but it’s not

  • Rinslowe

One thing is unmistakable. Revenues and profits aside. Strictly sales. PS4 is the thing to beat in gaming right now and rightfully so, it’s a great console and it’s priced for the consumer. So credit where it’s due.
Having said that, Kart deserves it’s place in the spotlight as well. Bringing the franchise to new heights with it’s sublime music and visuals, total class…
If Nintendo’s future first party titles are anything like Kart. Then I care less and less about where Wii U ends up, in this gens pecking order. The games really are starting to speak for themselves.
Happy gaming – Mount Wario looks unreal right?

    • MerryBlind .

I’m actually already happy with my Wii U. I find Wii U exclusives are already stellar and of tremendous quality. I mean, DK Tropical Freeze, 3D World, and WW HD couldn’t really be any better than they are (appart for like slowdowns in WW, and 1080p would have been nice in DK, but the games themselves are amazing). They’re pretty much masterpieces in my book, and like you’re suggesting, the future looks even brighter in terms of game quality.

      • Fred

        Don’t forget Wonderful 101!

        • MerryBlind .

Oh don’t worry I didn’t mean to name ALL the good games, just the ones that I consider masterpieces so far.

      • Rinslowe

Totally agree. Since Pikmin 3 released I started to see what Nintendo were capable of bringing. Kart 8 is an evolution of that for the platform. I know it’s not really logic to get hyped for Zelda U based on Kart. But I have a suspicion that Nintendo are going to push their little console to new technical heights…

        • MerryBlind .

Dude….. I’m expecting nothing less from Wii U than the absolute best Zelda ever made. I can’t wait for e3 just to see a trailer for this game.

          • Rinslowe

            I know that feeling! :)

          • Magnus Gonzalez

they better make it the best. TP and then Skyward Sword had their moments but were both lacking imo. This new Zelda has to be good enough to make people forget the things they might have not liked about one or both of those games, appeal to the hardcore Zelda fans, but at the same time be accessible to a new generation of Nintendo fans who might not have played it before. It has to be on WindWaker or OOT’s level or beyond. I have a sneaking suspicion it will be. But no matter what they come out with, expect backash…happens after every announcement.

    • Fred

As far as I’m concerned Mario Kart will be good for the Wii U and I”m loving the games I already have on my Wii U, but X is the one that will cement the Wii U in for me.I LOVED Xenoblade and I can’t wait for X!

      • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

I’m with you there. So I present you with an upvote.

      • Rinslowe

        I agree 100%.
As much as I’m hyped for Zelda U, I hope they release X first. And allow me some quality time with it… To be honest man, I think X is going to be a time sink like no other. A massive world to explore and I’m thinking online mulitplayer as well. It may very well end up being Wii U’s WoW….
Then Zelda rolls around and all my genuine expectations of the Wii U are satisfied. Doom and Gloom be damned! :P

    • jcnba28

I disagree, PS4 doesn’t deserve it’s sells because most of those sales came from hype. PS4 has no games!

      • Brandon

Umm, you might want to go look again.

      • Akatosh

Yes and no. While I do agree most of the purchases are from hype and trends, sales also stem from a lot of people who jumped off the X1 ship for a cheap 3rd party console.

      • greengecko007

The Wii U had strong lannch period sales for the same reason, in addition to some launch titles like Pikmin not releasing until almost a year later.

        • Capt. Smoker

Strong launch line up… I really don’t remember anything truly note worthy until we saw Pikmin several months down the line

          • greengecko007

I think you misunderstood me. @jcnba28:disqus said that the PS4 is only selling on hype and does not deserve to be selling so well. My retort was that the Wii U had strong sales at launch for the same reason, hype. The good games didn’t actually start coming until a year later.

          • Magnus Gonzalez

very true. Though the graphical jump from 480p to HD was big enough that the curiosity factor made the jump to the Wii U appealing. But come 2013…crickets…for months. If only WindWaker or SM3DW were launch titles and what’s coming this year had instead come out last year, the Wii U might have found so much more success.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Yes yes. Sour grapes. We get it.

      • Rinslowe

Sorry you feel that way. When I first bought the Wii U on release day I kinda felt the same way. NSMBU and Nintendo Land were actually great little dynamos of multiplayer fun, but I was actually looking for something more – like SM3DW & DKCTF & Pikmin 3, WWHD etc @ launch.
Most of the multiplats I had on PC aand console doubled up already.
And still Wii U to me is the finest console Nintendo have released, IMO.
But ok, I only own three games right now for PS4, but they’re really solid games man and yes for the most part it sold on hype… But that doesn’t take away from its great infrastructure, design and the fact that the games I own are worth playing… So I believe PS4 does deserve it’s place in the pecking order right now.
        Just my opinion, though. :)

        • darkcreap

Yep, as much as a Nintendo fan I am, Sony deserves credit this generation. They learnt something from the difficulties the PS3 went through.

        • Magnus Gonzalez

the controller redesign is such a huge difference. Playing Flower and those graphics. What an experience! Gotta get through some more PS3 games before I take the plunge again. It will be good to see some announcements and footage at E3

          • Rinslowe

Honestly it’s one of the best in terms of industrial design ever made, IMO. I like it more than the Unit itself.
Kinda reminds me a bit of the way I felt about the Gamecube controller back in the day…
Sony still has an eye for it. Granted though not everyone agrees with that opinion.

      • Hipster Victor

I understand. Most PS4 games are games you can get on ps3 (which dont make sense to me) but there are some really good exclusives in the PS4, just not much lol.

        • oontz

Did you really laugh out loud when you typed that? Really?

          • Hipster Victor

Yep, because I find the PS4 Exclusive libray pitiful.

          • oontz

So you went from saying there are some really good exclusives to pitiful? Crazy hipsters

          • Hipster Victor

Lol I meant the total amount of ps4 exclusive is pitiful. Its still good but not enough to get me to buying one yet :P

          • oontz

well you’ll love it when you do.

      • oontz

Yeah 7+ million ps4 owners bought the system and just look at it, they don’t buy or play any games, at all. Are you serious? Maybe the ps4 isn’t a console for you but you need to give credit where credit is due. There are some great games on the ps4. Something people always forget… The ps4 is only 5 months old, 5 MONTHS!!!!

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Yep. It’s the same case when Wii U barely had any games in that time frame. It’s funny how people seem to have forgotten that.

          • oontz

Yeah, hardcore fanboys (regardless of system) are the most hypocritical of the bunch.

      • AceRuby

I wouldn’t say it doesn’t fully deserve its sales but I do agree in that the system doesn’t have much in the way of quality software right now compared to the Wii U’s offerings (especially this year).

    • simkenno

      That snowy background :O

      • Rinslowe

Yeah it’s like flashbacks of 1080 Snowboarding and the Battle of Hoth in one place….

        • oontz

It totally reminded me of a course from 1080 snowboarding!!

    • Leo

PS4 a great console? for what? it surely can’t be games you are talking about, right? a great powerful piece of black plastic to “fit” in the latest frenzy gadget hype, maybe?

      • Rinslowe

        Hey Leo.
I only own Shadow Fall (love it), Infamous (almost love it, but it’s undeniable eye candy for console) and Resogun (quite a little spectacle in it’s own right). So my opinion is from only my own experiences.
I think the PS4′s infrastructure and services are a step in the right direction.
Nothing beats web browsing on the Gamepad though, total brilliance… :)

        • darkcreap

Yep, I wish that Nintendo had implemented some features that the PS4/X1 are implementing system-wide:
          1) Universal voice chat.
          2) Video recording in games.
          3) Share those video records.
          4) Play as you download (for PS4, I think).
          5) Digital purchases tied to accounts.
Some of them, like 1, are implemented in some games. 2 and 3 are implemented for MK8. The problem is that none of them is system-wide. It would help a lot of developers by saving them some work for online development. 2 and 3 I think that the PS4 does automatically, but I don’t know the details.

Number 5 I think they are developing it. Iwata hinted that in the last Investors Q&A session. But it was not very explicit though.

Some times I wish Nintendo were a little more dynamic in the technical sense. While Sony Microsoft seem to be very powerful in the engineering sense (their consoles have a lot of added functionality), Nintendo is very powerful on the entertainment side. Unfortunately, Sony/Microsoft don’t seem to have the same touch with their first party and entertainment features in their platforms while Nintendo is outstanding with their games.

          • Rinslowe

100% correct I reckon. Each console brings something interesting that next gen might just be a standard in one console. Which is pretty good, thinking about what new features and/ or services will be brought to the table on top of that.
Now though I think the onus is on Xbox One to differentiate itself as a true contender. Even the voice control stuff is no longer exclusive to the platform…

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Nothing wrong with hype. That’s how hardware sells. How do you think Wii was such a huge hit? Not by games alone. Wii U would benefit from it if it had the right hype. If Mario Kart 8 can’t get it going, then it’s probably going to suffer a lot in its life cycle. Great? Bad? It’s a matter of opinion. PS4 is not for everyone. Same goes for Wii U and Xbox One.

        • Leo

Nintendo is dreadful on creating hype and that applies even for the Wii. The Wii console soared on sales based on the “it factor” of movement control and word of mouth, not to mention that the industry was much healthier back then. On the other hand, the WiiU, although showing a new way to play (gamepad), came after the initial frenzy of the touch technology and the dissemination of casual touch games on phones and tablets, therefore it failed to create the same amount of interest as his predecessor and quite frankly this console was relentlessly slaughtered by the western media (still is up to this day). The good news is that Nintendo still has the best game developers in this business and Mario Kart and Smash Bros are two of their greatest franchises. There is no doubt that those two games will be the responsible for keeping the WiiU afloat until the new Zelda title.

          • Magnus Gonzalez

Families being able to play video games together made the Wii such a success. However, making it harder and more troublesome for third parties to develop for it turned them away, seemingly forever. Of course if Kart and more help get Wii U sales to 20 million some may return. If Kart doesn’t help move 5-10 million the Wii U is toast..no matter how much we like it and see its potential.

      • oontz

I am playing games on my ps4, do you even own one?

    • darkcreap

Sony has done some pretty right things this gen:
      1) Being focused on gamers (not like Xbox One).
      2) Not having pissing off policies (like that DRM policy that Microsoft tried to enforce at first).
      3) Do not include a series of compulsory features (ie. Kinect) that you need to make the console work that highly move the price up.
      4) Try to have the lowest pricetag (reasonably) possible.
      5) They give the most power with the lowest pricetag.

Nintendo has done in my opinion 1 and 4. They could improve in their policies (2, because downloads are machine-tied). One would argue that the WiiU gamepad is unnecessary (3), but it is also a core feature, while Kinect is really not necessary for the core of the experience that Microsoft give. With 5 I mean that, of the 2 most powerful consoles, the X1 and the PS4, the PS4 is allegedly more powerful and is even cheaper than the X1.

Sony knows that, while the PS3 was the most powerful it was also the most expensive. X1 is less powerful and more expensive than the PS4. In that sense, the PS4 has done it very right.

In that sense, Nintendo has a better differentiation strategy (although their way of taking profit from it is doubtly dissappointing to the present moment). I don’t know if the WiiU will sell more or not, but I think that the X1 will not be as successful against the PS4 in the same way the X360 was more or less successful against the PS3. Yes, we all know that the PS3 has sold more, OK, but the fight between those two was more balanced.

  • Adrian

I read this news on a different Website either Saturday or Sunday…but whatevs.
I’m more interested in how the Mario Kart 8 Wii U Bundle is selling compared to just the game alone.

  • McBlink

I would be happier if the WiiU console itself was sitting at the number 4 spot.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheMwgly Mwgly

      it will. :)

    • Michael Ocampo

Wouldn’t you be even happier than that if it was at number 1? ;)

  • Guest

The bundle is coming Sony beware you are in for a Scare as your profits decrease! you will cry while nintendo leaps…. in joy.

    Rhyme fail.

    • oontz

      Post fail

  • aefd

Sony beware your in for a scare, as your sales decrease Nintendos will leap!

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Leap back down to 40k a week?

  • MerryBlind .

It would be so amazing if the Wii U actually came back with tremendous momentum this holiday with Mario Kart 8 and Smash. Not just for the Wii U and Nintendo fans, but for this console generation as a whole. Right now it’s just boring and depressing how the PS4 is just dominating the other two by doing nothing (props to their marketing though).

    • Brandon

The best they can do is satisfy their fans, and bring in the family/casual gamers. Knowing that most core gamers arent going to buy it for two games, while missing alot more.

    • AceRuby

I think that would be great to see happen but at this point if they can keep ahead of the Xbox One all generation then I think that would be a huge feat for them considering all the doom and gloom people love to put on Nintendo.

  • jjbredesen

This is why Nintendo and Wii U’s doomed, think there should be a nice climb in sales, of the console if MK8 is selling as well as it seems. :D

    • darkcreap

They are betting too much on a single game. Nevertheless, the way it seems it is selling in Amazon leads me to think that it is going to see a nice bump. I think they have done a pretty good job with Mario Kart. What it would have been better is that certain features that Mario Kart is going to support were system-wide, like the video recording and all that.

      • MerryBlind .

Not a single game man. They’re going all out with MK8, then they’ll blow us away at e3 with a Zelda trailer or something, then they’ll go all out again with Smash, and the holidays should be pretty darn good for Wii U if they play their cards right.

        • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

That’s the point really, Nintendo should play it’s cards right, but so far they have pretty bad cards, only a good bluff can help them now, with MK8 coming and a few weeks later E3 they might still win with bad cards, by picking some good cards (mk8 being one of these good cards)

          • MerryBlind .

Well if you want to continue with the analogy, I’d it’s more that Nintendo has very good cards, but too few of them, that’s why I say they have to play them right, otherwise they’ll just go to waste. Whereas X1 and PS4 have bad cards, but many more of them.

          • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

Yes, you are right, Nintendo has some good cards but they have played them pretty poorly. That’s the reason why I say MK8 is one of them, but imo they have played it way to late, almost 1 and 3 quarters after the initial release of the system.

They should have rekeased WiiU a year later now they released it to soon. What we know there is mk, ssb and Zelda on the way 3 toppers, but one comes this month, one by the end of the year (wiiu version atleast) and Zelda probably holiday season 2015. We know nothing of Bayo release all we know is summer this year in japan, so NA, EU and the rest probably also holiday season this year. As for X should come this year, but I won’t be surprised if it’ll move to q1 or q2 2015. N seriously lacks 3rd party where both sony and microsoft can swim in them.

Although N has excellent 1st party but at this release rate and announcement rate and the lack of 3rd party I would say N doesn’t look good, they have to play a perfect hand after mk8 release and this E3 and keep it going or lose the game. I hope they play a perfect hand, but first I want to see before making predictions like mk8 is gonna save WiiU, heard it to often to much on other titles since WiiU’s launch, and none really did the trick MK8 could be an Ace, but I would like to see a Full house Aces over Kings. That’s my opinion atleast.

          • MerryBlind .

Couln’t agree more. I’ve got nothing to add lol, everything you said is absolutely right and spot-on.

            Cheers!

        • Dark Lord Sauron

u forget X,bayonetta 2 and few others as well

          • MerryBlind .

Sure I’m excited for those too, but they’re not big “system sellers”. Though both X and Bayonetta surely will move some systems, just not to the same degree as Smash or MK.

      • greengecko007

I think the only people betting on Mario Kart 8 are the Nintendo fanboys. I think Nintendo knows that while this game is very important, it’s not going to turn everything around for them. Nintendo has a lot to prove during E3 this year, but I think they can do it and at least regain faith in their customers.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

With each Nintendo game that’s near release, they think it’s the savior. Kinda like with Pikmin 3′s release last year. Everyone went ape shit with memes thinking the Wii U was going to sell like hotcakes. From experiences, it’s better to wait for the actual sales numbers before throwing a celebration.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brent.mccardell Brent McCardell

Funny thing is, despite everything Nintendo actually has a shot at #2. Microsoft isn’t admitting it, but the xb1 isn’t doing nearly as well as the ps4 sales-wise. If Nintendo has a strong E3, a big “if”, I know, but they could still be within arm’s reach of Microsoft for the foreseeable future…

    • MerryBlind .

Well unless Microsoft and/or Sony have an ace up their sleeves (which they might), I’m pretty sure Nintendo will have the strongest e3 just by showing a Zelda trailer (unless it sucks obviously, but I’m confident that on the contrary, it’s gonna look like the best Zelda ever, it has to be).

  • Noah

One game VS A console. Nicely done, Nintendo.

    • MerryBlind .

Just wait for the Wii U Mario Kart Bundle to be available on Amazon, both Mario Kart AND the bundle will be in the top charts.

      • Noah

        boom.

      • matthew garcia

How long have people been saying this?

        • Daniel Gonzalez

If Mario Kart 8 is the only thing that can get the Wii U going, that’s kinda sad. Well, there’s Smash, but that game is a long way from the Wii U.

          • Rinslowe

Of course that would be sad. There’s more on the Wii U front however that will help with momentum.
Smash: as you’ve mentioned – granted it’s a ways off.
X – might not be “everyone’s” cup of tea. But it has a cult following which is helped by the phenomenal and recent (relative) Xenoblade Chronicles.
Bayonetta 2: Whether or not it’s a system seller per se’ is anyone’s guess right now. It is however a title many people have their eye on. Not to mention it spices up the Wii U library in positive ways.
Zelda U: Even though the title might not be released this year, it’s still worth the realisation that Zelda U is a cult classic. And a dedicated built from the ground up Zelda on Wii U is something many many people have an interest in. Heck, even a reveal this E3 should be enough to interest potential buyers, through it’s hype alone. One thing Zelda never fails to generate on reveal…

Then Wii U only owners still have games like Project Cars and Watchdogs to look forward to right? On a side note…
Not to mention a slew of indie titles on the way.

Yes, absolutely it would be sad if Smash was the only thing to look froward to on Wii U for the remainder of the year. Thankfully that isn’t the case in reality. And the title roster is varied enough to interest quite a few different gaming tastes… :)

          • 504HotBoy

I think we all need to wait till E3 to see what’s in store. People are basing their thoughts on what’s in front of them now. I think we can all agree that they’re will be some surprises at this year E3. As there are games that have yet to be announced. Resident Evil 7 is rumored to be at E3. Mass Effect 4, Miyamoto’s new IP, Uncharted 4, Halo 5, Legend Of Zelda, Devil’s Third possibly being a Wii U exclusive( we’ll find out at E3), maybe a sequal announced to The Last Of Us, more on X, Bayonetta 2, Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts 3, maybe something on Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Yarn Yoshi, Quantum Break, Fatal Frame, etc. I know MK8 & Smash aren’t the only Wii U titles to get excited about. I don’t know why people are stuck on that, when there is much more coming this year. I was more hyped and anticipating Bayonetta 2 over Infamous:Second Son. Can’t wait till it hit store shelves. I have a good feeling this is going to be a great E3. As im sure we’ll see a lot of surprise announcements.

          • Rinslowe

            Exactly! :)

          • greengecko007

Waiting for E3 seems to be the most logical thing to do. Still, some people like to pretend like they’re holding a crsytal ball. I hope E3 works out for all of the major companies, and we as fans get to see a lot of great things this year.

    • oontz

Reading the actual article may help you sound a bit more intelligent.

  • ActivesiN

    25 more days!!!!

  • Jon Turner

PS4 isn’t going to be a hot seller for long. Already in Japan the hype is non-existant. I have a feeling the same is going to happen in America. The release of this game + a kickbutt E3 SHOULD push WiiU back into the spotlight.

    • MerryBlind .

Yeah, that’s what I’ve been saying. With MK8, e3, and Smash, they really can make a big comeback. However, they REALLY have to deliver at e3. If they under-deliver, the hype won’t be big enough for MK8 and Smash to make enough of a difference. If they blow everyone away at e3 with Zelda and a few surprises, MK and Smash will make an even bigger impact in the holidays season than they would otherwise. These 3 things combined could mean Nintendo back in the game.

      • Jon Turner

Yeah. I even dare to think that WiiU may overtake PS4 if they deliver.

Having said that, neither PS4 NOR WiiU will win the race; 3DS will. It’s the REAL winner.

        • oontz

Wishful thinking, but a bit unrealistic. The ps4 smashed lifetime wiiu sales within a few months on the market and it’s not slowing down.

          • Jon Turner

Nobody KNOWS what’s going to happen. PS4 COULD slow down before you know it. MK8 could very well fly past the 7 million mark on account of MK8 AND the momentum.

          • oontz

So you think mk8 is going to move 1 million + wiiu units globally?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Mario Kart Wii was able to do this because Wii was already at I believe the 25 million mark, so it makes sense. However, Wii U at 6 million? Fans are being unrealistic on here.Sounds like wishful thinking to me.

          • oontz

Yeah I know personally I am just buying one copy of mk8. Can’t speak for all wiiu owners though.

          • Shrish Kumar

Well, you can just as easily compare this situation to the one in previous generation.

PS3 initially sold lesser than X360, and with right exclusives PS3 evened it out. And if you need to know what value a Nintendo exclusive holds you can just look at the 3DS.

Now I am not saying X1 and PS4 are bad consoles, but their is a difference between getting something you deserve and getting something you don’t. In the end, we will know what all 3 will get. And as for Vita, sony should reduce the price on just create a PSP emulator.

            Lastly reflect on this
            http://www.ign.com/articles/2011/07/29/history-says-the-3ds-is-doomed

          • oontz

What are you talking about? Are you replying to something I said or just randomly posting stuff? You did this on another post as well. Sorry not sure what you’re attempting to do.

        • oontz

If you’re really comparing handheld devices to home consoles than iPhone is clearly the winner.

    • matthew garcia

Wii u since its release has never been in the spotlight

    • Brandon

Unless sony and microsoft do even better at e3.

      • Drowrin

While possible, I kinda doubt it. to me, it feels like they have played all their cards.

        • Brandon

Not really theres still things to announce, like first party games, 3rd party exclusive content, system updates, and accessories.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Sounds to me people are a bit envious of the PS4′s sales.

        • oontz

Ha ha ha.. Oh wait you were serious?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

This is why I stick to forums more often of late. Friendlier environment, and more realistic fans. Lol.

        • Jon Turner

Oh yeah seriously. What is actually coming NEXT to PS4 to get excited about? Oh right, more ports of ports and the next biggest game? Who knows WHEN that’s going to be? We don’t even know when FFXV is coming out? I think the hype for PS4 may start to wane a bit this month.

          • oontz

Mulitplat ports that ARE NOT coming to the wiiu. Use your same logic looking at wiiu… What’s coming this year? Mk8 and smash bros. two games. That’s it. Maybe if wiiu also got multiplat ports then the release schedule wouldn’t look so grim.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Yep. It will survive on 1st party, but it won’t be a huge seller without third party supporting it. Fans these days. Lol.

    • greengecko007

If the PS4 is outselling the Wii U in Japan 2 to 1 in Japan with nonexistant hype, then does the Wii U have negative hype?

In all seriousness, Mario Kart looks amazing, but I wouldn’t recommended getting your hopes up for a huge sales increase. If it does happen though, then fantastic.

      • Jon Turner

Except PS4 isn’t REALLY outselling WiiU there. It hasn’t even caught up to 1 million. It is practically DYING in Japan, selling worse than PS3 did. (Seriously, are you trying to say that PS4 clearing 13k a week in Japan is an example of good sales when the system is nowhere near 1 million and WiiU stands at the 1.7 million mark? I’m not defending WiiU sales by any means, but I don’t SEE the argument.) Now in all fairness, WiiU is also having bad sales, but unlike PS4, Nintendo HAS titles that are going to push it into the stratosphere. MK8 is one of them. So is HYRULE WARRIORS. So is SMASH. And whatever titles they unleash at E3. Sony doesn’t have ANYTHING for PS4 in Japan at the moment, and who knows when FFXV will hit. Until that happens, Sony is going to have A LOT of trouble there. Luckily this is Nintendo’s time to strike back.

        • greengecko007

The Wii U has been out longer in Japan, so of course it has more total sales in Japan. But go back to the numerous articles posted right here on WiiUDaily, the PS4 is outselling the Wii U in Japan by a huge margin. If you think the PS4 is dying in Japan, you must think the Wii U is dead.

    • oontz

Look I love my wiiu but there is no denying how well the ps4 is moving off shelves. It won’t be long till it’s at 8 million units sold (not just shipped) it clearly still has a lot of momentum left. Need to give credit where credit is due .

      • Jon Turner

For how much longer? I don’t see any major games on the horizon for PS4, and I honestly see a slowdown coming sooner or later. There’s a good chance it’ll just hit 7.5 million by May. You can argue all you wish but I say one day PS4 will lose its momentum.

        • oontz

Not arguing, just making an educated guess based on current and past sales data and trends. Just because we enjoy out wiiu’s doesn’t mean we need to live with blinders on, oblivious to the current market. Reality it the wiiu is selling worse than the GameCube.

          • Shrish Kumar
          • oontz

Since when were we even discussing the 3ds? Not to mention the 3ds operates in it’s own space with pretty much zero competition. But yeah, I think we were discussing the Wiiu and PS4. Cool story though. Thanks for sharing.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Happens when they run out of material.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Nice job upvoting your own comment. ;P

        • greengecko007

And when it loses momentum will they call it quits and never sell any more consoles? Nintendo has lost their momentum with the Wii U several times, they just can’t keep the ball rolling. So while you can sit here waiting for the PS4 to lose momentum, I’ll be waiting for E3 to see if Nintendo can actually get some.

  • Guru

Currently it’s number 4 and 21 (Steelbook Edition) in Germany. The best selling PS4 game is Watch Dogs on 6. XboxOne doesn’t seem very popular with it’s best selling game on 65.

Maybe Ashley should try using a headline that actually supports her article. Then people wouldn’t be confused.

  • Mike

I don’t even compare the ps4 and wii u, to me they are the two consoles that should be owned by everyone.

    • Drowrin

I agree that the PS4 is a good console, and that the wii u shouldn’t be compared, but….. *dons PC master race mask* my PC is still better than the PS4, so I don’t need one. *removes mask* (in all seriousness, I would love a PS4, I’ll just get it eventually when the price is lower and there are more exclusives).

      • Mike

I don’t compare pc to anything cause it’s a different league.

        • MerryBlind .

Well Nintendo are becoming more and more a different league too though… The only ones really in competition are Playstation and Xbox since they’re so similar.

          • Mike

I look at Nintendo as a Mario machine. I don’t care for Xbox at all. PS4 is my machine and will be through this Gen. If a steam machine comes out that is headache free, mostly that is, I would consider it. PC gaming always just turns into a pain for me.

    • MerryBlind .

Just get it before the end of July if you want a free game. (and how the fudge do you only have MH3U on your Wii U lol?)

  • Carlos Webster

    Wow, this is impressive.

  • John Andalora

I don’t mean to spoil peoples fun, but since this list was last updated, PS4 moved back up.

    http://www.amazon.com/best-sellers-video-games/zgbs/videogames/ref=zg_bs_nav_0

I’m not trying to say that sales of Mario Kart 8 aren’t really, really good. But this list isn’t necessarily a newsworthy thing.
It only accounts for the games sold on Amazon, and doesn’t really do either side justice.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Never really is considering it can change at any point of time and make it irrelevant. Though, it’s a fan service thing, and they of course did it for the ad revenue.

  • greengecko007

That’s cool, but it would be better to see one of the Mario Kart 8 bundles up on the list. If anything this is just pointing more to the fact that Mario Kart 8 isn’t going to drive console sales up through the roof, even though the bundle is an amazing deal.

    • Jon Turner

Well the MK8 bundle isn’t even AVAILABLE on Amazon yet. Of course it’s not going to go up there.

      • greengecko007

I’m just saying that when or if that happens, then that would be something to maybe get excited about. This means virtually nothing.

  • matt

Its above ps4 in france, germany,uk,everywhere….i checked movers and shakers worldwide…..

    Prepare youreslf, nintendo is coming.

  • Old School

I was going to preorder a copy until I saw what they did to battle mode. Lazy bums just used race tracks due to budget cuts after poor Wii U sales. Game looked almost perfect

What a shame they also used all the kooplings when there was so many different characters they could have used

  • Daniel Gonzalez

Usual click bait news.Welp, back to forums until something interesting pops up. Peace.

    • Leo

“back to forums until something interesting pops up”.

Mario Kart 8 is being released in a few weeks. There. Something interesting for you.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

“Mario Kart 8 is being released in a few weeks. There. Something interesting for you.”

Not interesting in the slightest since I knew this long ago. Anything else?

        • Leo

You may find something interesting on your PS4 if you are not excited for Mario Kart 8 release… oh i see, there is nothing on PS4 at the moment right… sorry for you :(

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Ahh, the tired argument. Must be hard to stick to topic huh? If you’re going to troll, come with something a little more original at least. No need to get upset because I don’t find hundreds of Mario Kart 8 articles interesting. It wouldn’t make a difference what game it was.Quality over quantity, which WiiUDaily isn’t too good at practicing. Come back at me when there’s a Star Fox or Metroid announced and maybe I’ll start going off with Nintendo memes left and right like most of you. ;P

          • Leo

What do you expect from WiiUDaily now just at a few weeks from the release of a major title? It should be obvious why there are tons of articles and anticipation about Mario Kart. You are on a site dedicated for the WiiU. People come here exactly to get hyped for WiiU games and you can expect a lot more to come in the following weeks, you may do as you say and go to another place to discuss your real interests.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Doesn’t change the fact that it’s more quantity than quality. Though, that’s not just Mario Kart 8 to be fair. I’ve seen some worse ones lately. Right now, I am discussing my real interests. You were the one who brought up something that was unrelated to Wii U. Can’t fault me for staying on topic. I’ll go when I please thank you very much. ;P

          • greengecko007

This article isn’t even about Mario Kart 8 news or helping to create hype. It’s simply fan service for fanboys. Mario Kart 8 moved ahead of the PS4 on Amazon for a little bit? Such wow.

          • Brandon

Well, there’s alot more to play then wii u.

          • TrueWiiMaster

At the moment the Wii U has many more games than the PS4, actually. In fact, as of right now the Wii U has more exclusives set for 2014 than either the PS4 or the Xbox One. They only win in multiplats, almost all of which can be played worse on the PS3 or 360, or better on the PC.

          • Brandon

Yes, but the wii u is not getting the new games that have came out this year so far. True is does have more exclusives, but there to far apart, thats normal but theres nothing in between to get.

          • TrueWiiMaster

There have been very few new games so far this year on any of the three next gen systems. The PS4 and Xbox One have gotten 2-3 more than the Wii U, but they were all games available on last gen hardware (except for Infamous), and none of them were huge titles.

          • Brandon

Still if it was on last gen the wii u should get it also.

          • TrueWiiMaster

That would be nice, but like I said, none of the games were really big titles anyway, so chances of releasing on the Wii U were even less.

  • oontz

This article still made it to print? Wow, just wow,

  • InterTreble

People saying the last word for Wii U before the release of a colossus like Mario Kart 8 (and in the future a certain Zelda…) can be considered as stupid in the best cases, mad in the worst. Or simply Sony fanboys, which is the same.

  • TheMightyCraken

Who are the fools that write this stuff?!

    • Daniel Gonzalez

It’s fan service. All sites do it. Though, this site does it more often I feel.

  • Hipster Victor

Interesting, glad to see one Wii U Game seems very appealing to the consumers.

  • kyuubikid213

I wouldn’t be too surprised if MK8 started the kickstart to the Wii U sales. MK7 boosted the 3DS’s sales.

Then again, the 3DS also had the assistance of those epic adverts with the guys chilling out on the couch.

  • Magnus Gonzalez

As recent as a month ago it was rare to find PS4 on store shelves. It was selling so well. Now, I see stacks and stacks of them and they aren’t dwindling. The launch ‘rush’ is over. Those who were amped to get one because they were fanboys got theirs. The other 70 million see very little reason to own one seeing as the games aren’t quite there and the difference in graphics not enough just yet to justify a new console purchase. So like the Wii U early 2013…there will be a lull. You won’t read about it on the front pages of every single gaming publication and website but it’s happening. It happened to Xbox One earlier because of its price.
This generation will be pretty bad for sales across the board compared to last. None of the three will approach those numbers especially the Wii U. Mario Kart is the first massive 1st party offering for the Wii U and sadly it took 1.5 years. It should move plenty of consoles in light of the other two struggling. If Nintendo can surprise everyone with a game or two between Kart and Smash, announce Zelda and provide footage of X..at E3…this might be enough to kickstart some sales and save it from being discontinued. They can’t make any false steps. Kart looks amazing!!

    • Brandon

You’re delusional, ps4 and xbox are not selling and there going to continue selling well with boosts for there major titles. The wii u is selling bad, it can still bring its self back up, not to the sales numbers of ps4 or xbox, but good.

      • Magnus Gonzalez

lol at this guy. The Xbox One hasn’t surpassed the Wii U and its sales are pretty dismal. So it won’t be hard for the Wii U to bring itself back up to Xbox One numbers lmao! Major titles? You mean like Infamous and Titanfall. Sadly those provided about the same ‘boost’ as SM3DW did for the Wii U. Launch is over my friend. Until the Holidays only the Wii U should get any boost and that is because of Kart. Unless Halo and Unchartered are miraculously releasing before then there will be no boost for them. ha ha you funny

        • Brandon

Its the holiday season, all three consoles will get a boost. Especially since ps4 and xbox have more then one exclusive coming and have tons of new games releasing for them around that time, they will see a huge one.

          • Magnus Gonzalez

All I see on PS4 is The Order (don’t know much about it but want it!!) and Drive Club. If Uncharted comes out that is a game changer but I don’t see that happening. Xbox One has what exactly for exclusives? Are there any announced yet? I’ll take Kart, Bayonetta 2, Smash any day. That’s three confirmed exclusives, add DKTF that already came out and there’s 4. Plus whatever is announced at E3 for 2014 release (X, Hyrule Warriors, Yarn Yoshi, etc) that are all exclusives. Sure there will be way more titles on PS4 but many can be played on PS360 or Xbox One so the impetus to have to purchase either a PS4 or Xbox One isn’t quite there yet. Like I said, Uncharted and Halo change that of course.

          • Brandon

You got the ps4 exclusives right, but xbox does have its own also, like fable legends, sunset overdrive, quantum break, and halo 5. All three are going to announce new games at e3. Both consoles do have games that last gen and wi u are not getting also.

        • Psytrix

The only boost Nintendo should be receiving is a foot, swiftly kicking Iwata’s ass out of the building.

    • Jim Peterson

Hahaha, that have me a good laugh. The other two “struggling” consoles – moving more units at this point in their lives than any consoles in history.

      • Magnus Gonzalez

The Xbone has ‘shipped’ 5 million consoles. NOT sold. For a launch they are struggling. The PS4 has done great but sales have already started declining as it has no games and no system seller in sight. The PS360 is still very viable and eating into their sales as you can find most ‘next gen’ games on them.
Glad you find it funny that 2 and maybe all three won’t be that successful this gen as opposed to last. DB

        • Jim Peterson

No games? Huh? The first year lineup of the PS4 is going to look something like this (off the top of my head, Ive probably forgotten a few), just retail, not counting the hundreds of indie games.

          Destiny
          Infamous Second Son
          Watch Dogs
          Arkham Knight
          Driveclub
          The Order 1886
          Killzone Shadowfall
          NHL 15
          Assassins Creed Unity
          MLB 14: The Show
          Diablo 3
          Rayman Legends
          The Crew
          Dragon Age: Inquisition
          Thief
          Battlefield 4
          Murdered: Soul Suspect
          Fifa 14
          Wolfenstein: The New Order
          NBA 2K14
          Trials Fusion
          Tomb Raider DE
          Child of Light
Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn
          Elder Scrolls Online
          Call of Duty Advanced Warfare
          Call of Duty Ghosts
          Alien: Isolation
          Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
          Knack
          Need For Speed Rivals
          Mad Max
          Planestside 2
          Tom Clancy’s The Division
          Amazing Spider-Man 2
          Ground Zeroes

And whatever Ive forgotten and whatever is still to be announced. That is an epic year one. And a far better lineup than the Wii U has in double the time.

          • Magnus Gonzalez

lol. Dude, like 90% of those can be played on Xbone, PS360, Wii U, or PC. The first 12 months of the Wii U had as many games if you counted all the multi plats. And I said HAS no games, not what is coming. Compare the first 6 months of the Wii U with PS4 and it is a landslide in favor of the Wii U as far as number of titles, which I assume is all that matters as you named a bunch of ports

Wow, reading through the comments…boy the trolls came out strong here! Is it because their precious Sony was mentioned? How sad. Haven’t seen them since Kart launch and bam…they flock to this article. This site is funny!

Only shows PS4′s install base is growing. Nothing wrong with that.

AND in the number 1 spot IS: $20 gift card for PS store!?! Lol

As much as Im extremely pleased that Mario Kart 8 is where it is in the Amazon chart/s, this article makes it sound like its extraordinary that its above the PS4 when really it isn’t.

    1. Mario Kart is $60.
    2. The PS4 ‘buzz’ has died down since launch.
    3. The PS4 launched 6 months ago.
    4. The PS4 is $400.

    Come on, WiiUdaily, really?

A new release game “surpassing” a $400 console that’s been out for six months? Are we really so desperate to try spin some positive news? This is sad.
