The day has finally come, a new Legend of Zelda is on its way. Eiji Aonuma discussed the concept behind the upcoming entry in the Legend of Zelda series and how the development team wanted to explore new possibilities with each game.

The brief footage shown of the new game gave us a look at the vast draw distance and graphics that Zelda has been able to achieve with the power of the Wii U. With the new Legend of Zelda, players will be able to approach a puzzle from any number of directions.

Check out the trailer above and let us know what you think about this new title. Do you like the Skyward Sword like models? Would you have preferred something more realistic?

  • Jacob Juul

    I was like… joke?

  • Thomas Vienna

Holy Heck! That’s was the best display of cell-shaded beauty ever, I don’t care what anybody says!

    • Rinslowe

It’s a mature style with more evolved cel shading and amazing looking effects. Open world… I’m so freakin sold!
      XD

      • Thomas Vienna

I know! This is exactly what I wanted! I wonder how sci-fi this will feel, I didn’t want a metroid-inspired game. I’m glad that there are still open fields, so it probably won’t feel like that on the surface, anyway. I couldn’t be happier with it.

        • Santiago

I couldn’t be happier either… honestly, I was a little afraid it would end up looking too much like hyrule warriors. This graphics style was completely unexpected to me and totally amazing

  • Rinslowe

    Gorgeous.

  • tom

    nice!

  • Officer Raichu

    YES

  • Sdudyoy

    Looks good to me!

  • DoctorWily

Open world Zelda = Nintendo wins E3

    • jjbredesen

All i ever wanted, so happy!!! For me this is the most anticipated game of this generation! Looks great, and how Aounoma talked about the gameplay and exploration made me more satisfied than i ever could be!

      • Ghost8484

so wat did u like and wat didnt u like?

        • jjbredesen

          What i liked:

I loved the fact that they will focus on exploring and finding your own patch in a huge open world, with plenty of stuff to do, and that the world evolves and reacts to what you do, and that there are actual mini bosses etc. in the overworld.

It opens up a lot of possibilities for mini dungeons, side quests and a lot of extra content.

The render distance also is incredible, so i think just playing the game will feel really immerse.

Then there is the art style, and i have got to say, I love it!

It has got to be the best looking Zelda game ever released, the cel shading and new direction makes it look fantastic, and everything looks really detailed, a huge open world full of detail, and plenty of stuff to do is all i want from a Zelda game and that is what we got.

There was not really anything i did not like, and i am looking forward to getting more information over the coming months :D

There are still a lot of questions, and we don’t know enough details to analyze the game in detail, but from what we have seen so far it is most promising.

Here are some HQ screenshots from the trailer, so that you can see just how fantastic the game really looks:

          • Mitch Hall

That first picture is becoming my wallpaper.

          • jjbredesen

            Mine to!

        • bob

I liked the art style and open world. I hope they aren’t putting in those stupid press a now, now press b timed sequences like prince of persia. I hate that and it will ruin the game. It looks like the last part of this sequence is that though. If they do that this may be the one zelda I don’t buy. Hoping they still use motionplus refined with skyward sword.

          • Ghost8484

Do u think that this is a sequel to ss? Oh and what do u think they can do to make this Zelda stand apart from other ones but kinda keep a true story?

    • Ghost8484

      i agree

    • InterTreble

And Gonsaless has been doomed!! :D

    • bistricky

An open world Zelda game is exactly what I had hoped for but never really thought they were going to do it. Thought the trailer was short but it was still a cool first look at the potential of the game.

It is odd though that Eiji Aonuma may have chosen not to show Link but rather Zelda in the trailer. Cheers :D

      • monx2

Oh crud! I just realized! It could possibly be a twin of Link, allowing for two different forms of combat. Sword ‘N Shield, and the Bow ‘N Arrow.

        • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

Everyone keeps saying he looks like a girl, I don’t see it.

  • Gabe Hoffman

Those graphics Wii U not next gen my ass

  • Wilks

    Nintendo won E3, hands down.

    • pac_man_on_these_hoes

Im a nintendo fan but lets be real! Nintendo didnt win E3!

      • Daniel Gonzalez

Course they didn’t. Lol. No one wins E3. Saying who won is a matter of opinion. One thing I can say, is that all three brought some good stuff to this years E3.

        • Yousif Alromaithi

Lol we have won just like you said Sony won last year. I am gonna party huge this week before my final test next week. Horray Nintendo.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I don’t recall saying Sony won last year. Lol. As I said before, winning is a matter of opinion, but you’re welcomed to believe Nintendo won. Despite that, all three have many offerings this year and into next year. So I’m certainly going to have a lot of pre-ordering to do. :P

          • Ducked

Personally I feel all three bombed. Nintendo seems to go the cheaper route making 2D Yoshi and 2D Kirby. We pretty much have to wait until 2015 for every good game that’s coming out.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Well I felt that all three showed enough to satisfy console owners, but the wait for a lot of these games until next year is certainly disappointing too. Many thought X was going to be released this year, and look how that ended up. Lol.

          • Ducked

Yeah I didn’t expect X to be out this year. But seriously, X, Zelda, Uncharted 4, Halo 5, Kirby, Yoshi, Bat-Man Arkham Knight, Mario Maker, Star Wars Battlefront, FFXV, KH3, all 2015 titles and beyond.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Yeah, I do admit it is disappointing, but you have to look at the bright side. There will be a ton of games to choose from when 2015 comes along. :)

          • Ducked

Yep that is true. If none of them get delayed lol. I’m just curious how late in 2015 they’ll be out.

          • PS4Rocks

I disagree this E3 was the best one for nintendo in a long time

          • Ducked

            I don’t know, maybe I was expecting too much…again.

          • brandon

I thought Yarn Yoshi looked like a really fun, adorable platformer that in gameplay reminded me a LOT of Super Mario Brothers WiiU, but with, in my opinion, far better graphics and more creativity. To me, people who complain about a lack (so far at e3 2014) of Mario platformers should look at Yarn Yoshi!

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Yeah you are right this year Sony showed great stuff but last year Sony won. Amazing is how Sony won was due to Jack Tretton. This year sucked because the guy who was talking was nonsense.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Andrew House? He was okay, but nowhere near as good as Tretton was. I wish he would come back. Was a shame that he stepped down.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Great shame he knocked Microsoft of the park and made Nintendo the laughing stock for the whole year. Great plan and smart.

        • Rinslowe

I actually think being fair. That Nintendo’s content has put them at the lead this year. And the media and general public are likely to agree.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Well, being fair, I can’t say that there’s a winner in all this. The media and general public are no different than one person, and it comes down to opinion. I think Jared above said it best in his first sentence. Though, opinions aside, I think we’re all in for a good year in gaming, and more than likely next year as well. :)

          • Rinslowe

I agree with the last part. :)

        • Jared Garcia

Everyone wins at e3. The people who wanna see fantastic games aren’t disappointed. To each, they have a flavor we all can agree is good.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            That’s well said.

        • Justin Rowan

Enough w the rational thinking dude. This is the internet and you can get out! Don’t even try to reason with anyone ever. EVER.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Lol!

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Stop fighting. He is right people can decides who wins. That is not up to you but majority yeah Nintendo won.

        • Magnus Eriksson

Actually I think they did. Nintendo pulled it off really good for one time sakes. I think N. did their best E3 in a very long time.

          • Rinslowe

Yeah I think they came out fresh and different and delivered. Splatoon? I mean wtf… That game looks hot. And such great idea’s with great colour and just very nice work…

          • Magnus Eriksson

Yeah, it looked very fun and different. Beer and Splatoon party my place at launch.

          • Rinslowe

I’ll bring the paintball guns lol. Please tell your wife or significant other to “understand…”
            May need new wallpaper. :P

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I’m in the middle on it, which is where I prefer in most situations. I do agree that it’s one of their better E3 showings in the while.

          • JB

In the middle like in a Capital H? (I’m sorry, I saw this on Whose Line last night and you set me up perfectly!) :-)

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Haha. Well played, sir. :P

          • WT Herrod Jr.

One of my favorite shows ever, thank you for the mid work day laugh!

          • Magnus Eriksson

I dont think N. will have a chance against Sony this gen. But its good to see that they didnt give the Wii U up.

          • jjbredesen

Yup, the presentation and the humor was top notch and the way Iwata and Reggie where fighting etc. was awesome, nothing to complain about on that side of things, and the games where perfect, i have never been so satisfied in a long time, remember that we are not done though! Still more content to come.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Im very impressed. Nintendo have sucked big time since E32011, but this one was amazing. This is how it should have been from the beginning.

          • jjbredesen

Yup, it truly is one of the best things they have ever done! just 3 more min before treehouse starts, and then we should get to see starfox :D

          • Magnus Eriksson

The new Zelda looked so great. Much better than the Wii U tech demo. Amazing.

          • jjbredesen

Yup, think the cel shaded style looked really cool, and the overworld being huge etc. like in Skyrim is more than i could have ever wanted, most anticipated game of this gen.

          • RyuNoHadouken

keep telling yourself that…cel shaded = an excuse for weak hardware not to have realistic graphics

          • Roy

i have studied cg for a long time, and being able to pull of a beautiful cell shaded render can be just as difficult as realistic render, because you have to pull off techniques that can make it harder than simply duplicating real life. trust there is alot of thought process and it enough to give you head ache

          • Magnus Eriksson

Doesnt matter. This style fits Zelda quite good.

          • atl hawks

Then what’s sunset overdrive or crackdown 3 troll. Zelda is not meant to be specific.

          • RyuNoHadouken

not talking about those games…stay on topic youngsta…im not a troll or fanboy, i own all systems, just keeping it real :)

          • endCredits

            merry me

          • Ghost8484

how u figure that. im kinda glad they went away from that tech demo because most people went off that look and expected all wii u titles to look ike that. nintendo want the games to look nice but they will do it there way not ours.

          • ZeldaFan83

I agree with you. After that demo came out everyone started comparing it to other games, well this looks better than that demo, the PS4 can do this, blah blah blah. Even Epic Games came out and said that their engine is capable of better graphics than the tech demo. It’s just ridiculous. All these graphic nuts are so obsessed with realistic graphics. Nintendo does things that are unique and fit the game they are trying to make and this one fits perfectly and I think it looks even better than any realistic game.

          • ZeldaFan83

I believe the tech demo they showed a couple years ago proves that it’s very capable of realistic graphics but the Zelda team wanted something unique and they got it, an art style that blends skyward sword art with a small amount of wind waker and modernized much more and it has a almost anime style to it, that makes it very unique, no other developer in the world could probably do this, this type of art style is what makes Zelda great and gives it a truly wonderful fantasy type of feel to it. I personally think it looks freaking amazing. Just look at the blades of grass blowing with the wind and you can see all the little flowers within the grass and the land in the distance gives it great depth, they can create an entire open world. Look at Xenoblade Chronicles X or Devil’s Third or even Bayonetta 2. Those are realistic looking games that look great. It’s Nintendo’s decision to choose the art style they want to go with, they went from Wind Waker to Twilight Princess to Skyward Sword to this. Just a little bit of info for you but your opinion is your own.

          • HungryMetroid

plus with that art style it will age VERY well. the original version of wind waker still looks great when played with a component cable.

          • RyuNoHadouken

neither of those games are realistic looking. they’re all cartoony. they look great though

          • ZeldaFan83

They all look realistic…most of all Devil’s Third looks like a better Call of Duty.

          • RyuNoHadouken

fanboyism is a disease. you should get checked

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            That’s certainly true.

          • Nintendo Of North Korea

Ugh… I was hoping you would be more mature. If you like calling people with opinions and can’t take criticism then may I suggest the Gamespot forums, your kind is not welcome here.

          • ZeldaFan83

No need. If I were a fanboy I would be ranting and cussing you out and calling you ridiculous names but I am no fanboy. I own 7 consoles which include an NES, GCN, Wii U, PS4, Xbox One, 360 and PS2. You could say I’m a fanboy of videogames. I love videogames regardless of what format their in or how their played. I think you might be a little unreasonable and unable to accept commonsense. You aren’t one of these graphics junkies that only think that top of the line graphical games with the latest technology like Watch Dogs or GTA V are the only type of realistic games are you? If so I really feel sorry for you. Well anyway…I think these games coming out do look realistic and I can’t wait to play them. Good day sir and enjoy the rest of E3 in the coming days.

          • Michael Hancock

Ryu is right. Nintendo has stated in the past, one of the determining factors in Wind Waker’s art style choice, was that cel-shaded graphics are “easier and faster to develop”.

          • RyuNoHadouken

            you cant argue with fanboys

          • Michael Hancock

            They are wrong, period.

          • nintendope

Well, maybe I like cartoons, jokes on you!

            (but you’re right)

          • Rinslowe

            Lol.

          • Ajackson

            Crackdown? Wind Waker HD?

            Both on powerful hardware.

          • RyuNoHadouken

Crackdown devs did it because they can. Zelda devs because they had no choice

          • PS4Rocks

This is the zelda i have been waiting for..This game is supposed to larger than skyrim..Lets hope so

          • Akatosh

Considering how many hours I’ve sunk into Skyrim… oh my.

            Zyrim.

            Like the sound of it.

Best of all the main character won’t be ugly. XD

          • Yousif Alromaithi

yep. Nice said Magnus. Exactly what i thought but where hell is Next gen Wii U Sports man Nintendo is dumb sometimes I agree.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Thanks Magnus you know why Sony failed because of that stupid European talking Rubbish i miss Jack Tretton. he was on steam last year.

          • KyuubiKitsuneKami .

Just as bad as any stupid American

          • Yousif Alromaithi

What the hell dude Jack Tretton was awesome. Andrew house was not engaging on this e3. It felt like he was not excited to show for his fans because everybody has PS4. Lol that is stupid you put your fans instead of you first. That is plain dumb they should cut of his salary for his fauilure on this e3. Aside from that great games. No Man Sky saved Sony e3.

          • RyuNoHadouken

Nintendo e3 sucked ball sacks! who gives a shit about games coming out next year! we want games this year!

          • Magnus Eriksson

At least there are things happening at last. Zelda U looked very nice, and it seems to going in the right direction. The toy-stuff might be popular both for kids and collectors. Star Fox sounds good. Bayonetta 1 together with 2 was a pleasant surprise. Kirby and Yoshi was a bit meh, but Mario Maker and Captain Toad is two things I have wanted and look forward too. Splatoon looked very fun and Smash was Smash and will probably go quite well. I am very satisfied with this E3 from Ninty, I had almost given up on them.

          • lonewolf

And do not forget sonic boom for october release. (I think it was october).

          • Ace J

whoa wait a sec……..did you just say StarFox?

          • bistricky

I agree with you. Add to that; Out of the big-3 consoles, Nintendo had to have a very good E3. Only months ago, I think many wondered if Nintendo was just going to let the Wii U die with only a few promised titles …. this E3 has definitely shown that behind-the-scenes Nintendo has been working to breath new life into the Wii U. This is likely going to mean better news for Nintendo but most importantly better overall games for gamers.

          • darkcreap

Yes, I am willing for Starfox to come. Oh, I love that Franchise.

          • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

If that’s the case, e3 sucked as a whole. Most of what MS and Sony announced are slated for 2015 release date. Stop whining these games take time you know. That’s the problem with you folks, always wanting everything “Now Now Now”! The year is half-way done, you can’t wait? Patience is a virtue.

          • matthew garcia

I think Zelda was the best game of e3. Only thing that sucks is that it’s sometime in 2015 along with x. The two most important games to me

          • darkcreap

Really? Yes, the games look great, but… 2015!!!

          • bob

I think they did what they needed to, show off a lot of good games for a system that has been lacking in software. But to say they won because they finally caught up with the wii u is not what I would say. Really we have some software and more stupid figurines to buy. That is rather basic for an e3 showing. Zelda was nice and I love zelda, but without a playable demo it was just a teaser video saying sometime next year (in other words maybe next e3). Look at what happened with twilight princess. Track record says until they set an actual day (not just year) and have a big playable demo this is still just speculation.

        • Ghost8484

wat did u like from each conference this year?

        • Michael Hancock

          ^Also an opinion.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            ^So is this.

          • Michael Hancock

Precisely my point. You seem to be obsessed with subjectivity. What I don’t think you realize, is that subjectivity itself, is subjective.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            ^Another opinion.

You’re throwing stones at your glass house.

          • Michael Hancock

Precisely my point. Subjectivity is inescapable.

            You’re welcome.

      • PS4Rocks

        Meh!

    • therealruben1

      Think again

  • Brian

i’m concerned that this doesn’t resemble the Zelda hint trailer we originally saw when the Wii U launched. That trailer with the spider boss had real great graphics and Link looked much better there than in this new trailer. personal opinion.

    • MetroidZero

It was only a tech demo.

      Tech Demo =/= Game, unfortunately.

      • Brian

I realize that, It just got my hopes up when I saw the new trailer.

        • watchin

I don’t know why they said a long time that this game wouldn’t resemble that… it should’ve though

    • Victor Marques

i was expecting something like that too. not that this is bad, but come on, we’ve waited so long, and bit disappointing to have another cell shading game

      • Brian

I’m not a fan of the cell shading. personally I was turned off and probable won’t buy it. Don’t get me wrong other games are awesome from nintendo, I love mario kart and can’t wait for smash.

        • Thomas Vienna

I’m sorry, You can like or hate the graphics all you want, but that is a poor reason to not buy a game.

      • watchin

ikr? I hate cell-shading. what the fuck is so special about it!? cell-shading is for kids!!! give us mature shit! fuck is wrong with nintindo!?!?

        • Darin

Dropping F’ bombs does but make you mature.

          • watchin

            thanks

        • keithmaxx

Too bad you see it that way, because the style is simply gorgeous. Besides, I don’t want them going uber realistic with such a Zelda game; who do you think their target is?

          • watchin

people who can keep nintendo and the wii u afloat and alive..GROWN UPS who can buy and purchase their games and sytems. you are are probably 13 or something. kids didn’t even want the wii u until mario kart just came out and that was just recently. it was all about sony and microsoft. there are some very old and hardcore zelda fans out there (like myself)and nintendo knows we prefer the realistic and dark texture for zelda games (ocrina and twilight sold more than any other zelda game they ever made and skyward sword was the worst) they probably keep going with this cellshaded crap because they find something “unique” about it but that’s to them, not majority of their fans who they should listen to.

          • keithmaxx

Happy to say I’m WAY older than 13. How do you know that ‘majority’ do not want cellshaded brilliance? Do you have hard numbers to back up that claim? The number of people who enjoyed Wind Waker and Spirit Tracks would beg to differ, I bet. Not that I hate TP, though.

          • watchin

sure you are. maybe 14 and half. not to sound conceded and arrogant, but mature and grown up people look for something more dark and mature not cartoony and light. I forget his name but the craetor of zelda even said he made twilight princess to appeal to Western audience that’s because that’s what we wanted and he was not disappointed. if I remember correctly twilight sold over 6 million copies and orcrina 7 . there’s my proof go look on the internet and see how many od displeased with this art and style of zelda for something that was a game changer for the wii u. that’s why no one can take Nintendo serious. btw wind waker was the second worst then skyward sword. and ST was a DS game not a main console game

          • keithmaxx

I won’t bother with checking forums, if that’s what you mean by searching the Internet. Also, the claimant has the burden of proof to support claim, hence I cannot take yours seriously. But I digress. TP sold so much because it was a launch title for the Wii. Also, OoT wasn’t exactly artistically realistic, mature or dark, was it? You forget that amongst mature and grown up people there are also varying tastes in style. And before we go further, I am not attacking you, I just wish you had the figures for your claims to help educate others as well.

          • watchin

I gave you all the proof you needed. its up to you to accept it. it sounds to me like your in denial but whatever. TP was both sold on the wii and game cube btw not just the wii it wasn’t a wii exclusive. OoT was dark (I meant in colors) and had realsitc texture, now I know you are young if you don’t remember how people use to talk about how beatiuful and realsitc the water and certain areas loook on the 64. and what I meant by mature was the graphics. you know stuff like Banjo was cell-shaded that was targetd for more of kids. all I’m saying is older prefer realer

  • Christopher Acuna

    So gorgeous.

  • Lusunup

I think it corresponds with Skyward I mean like just looks more mature with evolved technology I think it maybe a sequel either way it looks soooooo amazing!

  • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyokn5x1KZdVCAiS6ALeMyQ Palmer27

Love it all – except for links features!

  • watchin

Boooo!!! FUCK! this looks good! but damn Nintendo it could have been a thousand
times better if they went with dark colors and realistic textures like
they did in twilight. why the hell won’t they make it look real!!? and link don’t look right. I hate cell-shading. FUCK

    • SinkyChan

yeah, the big zelda game being cel-shaded is kind of annoying. i wish it looked more realistic. oh well, probably still buying it; probably still gonna’ like it.

      • watchin

yup, but I’m still a bit (a lot!) disappointed

        • Edgar Tapia

I could not agree with you more :C, we want this :

          • watchin

            that’s EXACTLY what we want

          • Cutcopy

            no, YOU want that
Do you know why I don’t want a Zelda game with “dark, realistic colors and textures”? Because that all Sony and Microsoft do. Thousands of games with dark colors and gritty realistic textures. In case you haven’t noticed, Nintendo isn’t trying to be like Sony and Microsoft.

          • Edgar Tapia

Of course that is what I want silly, that is what I am trying to say. Don’t be so small minded there are many ways I can approach this topic. First of all, it is not very smart to imply that Dark realistic textures and graphics are the trademark of Sony and Microsoft, and if Nintendo does do a game like that they will not lose their essence whatsoever. As a matter of fact, many of the nintendo fans that still exist ( including me ) still are loyal to Nintendo due to a great bond I had with them growing up with their games. Nevertheless, I am not 12 anymore and I want something more realistic, specially after already having played cell-shaded kind of graphics for quite a while. It is perfectly normal and sane for us to ask for a balance in between the art styles used in Zelda games, we still love Wind Waker, Skyward Sword and I will embrace this new title as well, but there is an imbalance and bringing realistic graphics brings more diversity into play.

Bringing these kind of Zelda games with realistic graphics, in my opinion are the catalysts that old Nintendo fans that are now with Sony or Microsoft NEED to comeback where they truly belong here at the great N

          • Josh Dye

            +1

I play video game to escape reality, I really dislike dark realistic textures in video game

PS– Never owned a playstation or xbox for that reason

  • Erazor
    • Thomas Vienna

      I might bookmark this.

  • Edgar Tapia

    NINTENDO! ARE YOU KIDDING ME????????????????????????????????

YOU’RE MAKING ME GO CRAZY, WHY THE HELL DO YOU USE THE SAME GRAPHICS AS IN SKYWARD SWORD?

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE HD GRAPHICS I WANT TWILIGHT PRINCESS TYPE OF GRAPHICS, I AM SO UPSET NOW

I can’t believe how this E3 has completely disappointed me in a great fashion. Why the hell would you promise Smash for 3DS in summer just a month or two ago and delay it…. I am so upset… These kind of things is what turns customers into the dark side…………. (Sony, Microsoft)

    • Rich Garriques

then go cry somewhere you baby , in fact why dont you make your own zelda game since you seem to know more then nintendo.

      • Edgar Tapia

You don’t understand… I am a loyal Nintendo Fan and have played every Zelda game… To have a console that can deliver a potential great looking Zelda games inevitably makes you think of something much better. Even though under my boot it will always say NINTENDO, this really makes me sad… and these kind of things also affect me as a Wii U owner, because seemingly this does not attract other players

        • Edgar Tapia

Believe me when I say I like Nintendo as much as everyone here, and will still end up getting this Zelda…

But then explain why tease something like this, and NEVER deliver?

          • Sdudyoy

That was just a tech demo showing off what the Wii U could do, they said from the beginning that that might not be the graphic style that they were using.

          • Edgar Tapia

I know what it is. But what about the people that don’t know? This is advertising something that they haven’t done. I loved the cell shading on Wind Waker, and I also loved Skyward Sword.

I know the game will probably be great, and I have no intentions to start an argument, this is just me being very upset because I know for sure that my friends and a lot of gamers would rather have a more realistic looking Zelda game, than a cell-shaded Zelda which we have been getting quite a lot recently. Imagine a remastered version of Majora’s mask using Twilight kind of graphics? That game itself would sell Wii U’s like crazy. An increase in the number of Wii U’s is better for all of us Wii U owners, which is better for us because the more consoles are sold more the interest by other third party developers.

I like the style on the new Zelda, my complaint is that Nintendo could simply do it better.

          • Sdudyoy

I will admit I would have preferred a more realistic art style though, but I’m glad they aren’t doing the same with all there games.

          • Plaid Smith

Two words: Wind Waker. They did the same thing with the Game Cube, having a realistic demo and then coming out with a cell shaded Zelda game.

Personally, I think the Zelda shown off at E3 has very high visual potential, though. Look closely at the keen water effects and the moving foliage. I’m sure Nintendo with be able to blow us away even with not so realistic graphics. They did pretty well at making MK8 look really good, and with the Zelda franchise, I’m sure they’ll have even more effort put in.

          • Stoenk

That is a tech demo. They always look better than the games. Everything is scripted and it only has to calculate what you can see

          • Ren

might be the graphical style for Majoras Mask Remake ;)

    • David

These are not the same graphics as skyward sword.

    • Rinslowe

      They’re pretty different.

    • watchin

nintindo do stupid things they will SOMEDAY learn from their mistakes or else they end up like sega

    • jjbredesen

      What are you talking about?????

It looks freaking fantastic! The cel shading is out of this world, it looks nothing like Skyward Sword!

    • Josh Dye

      SS had the best graphics

  • Joe

Not sure about this one yet I’ll wait until I see actual gameplay I would have preferred the art style used in the demo they used to show off the wii u.

    • watchin

we all would, but nintindo is stuck on cell-shading for some reason. they don’t listen to their fans

      • Daniel Gonzalez

They usually don’t. Mostly because people buy the games anyway, which leads them to believe they don’t need to change.

        • watchin

I bet they learn their lessons from the wii u I know that

        • keithmaxx

Well only time will tell if the style decision would have major impact on sales. Sales is what matters, in the end.

      • Josh Dye

People don’t know what they want until Nintendo makes it

        • watchin

people do know what they want. that’s why nintendo is going bankrupt. because they want what they want and not what we want

          • Josh Dye

It’s exactly what I want though

          • watchin

and that’s why there going bankrupt and are getting desperate. what you want is not what the majority want

  • Herman Jeeves

    Link had better grow up.

  • DoctorWily

I don’t know what you guys think but I’m pretty sure the blurred out game Miyamoto was playing at the end of the video was Star Fox!

  • MerryBlind .

Damn damn damn damn damn damn I want to watch the trailer so bad but I’m at the job, so I have to wait until tonight. Damn damn, I’m so excited…… !!!!!

  • Alexander Kleinwechter

ok, tbh, i had a dissapointed reaction to the new zelda game, i was expecting too much, and i was one of the few peoples that didnt want zelda core game to change, the new art style confuses me, but what struck me most is the laser robot, i got mixed reactions, i havent seen much of it yet, but so far, it looks really good, but as a hardcore zelda fan, hmm idk, got a bit dissapointed

  • X3Charlie

Are we sure this is Link? It seriously looks like a girl.

    • C4

      You aren’t implying it’s Zelda?!? :D

    • keithmaxx

Tbh doesn’t he usually look like so?

  • darkcreap

2015? You kidding me? Come on. Same for X. I cannot believe it.

    • Ducked

Zelda, X, Yoshi, Kirby, Mario Maker, all 2015! It sucks. We just have Hyrule Warriors and Smash for 2014.

      • JB

There’s Bayonetta 1 and 2 for this year, provided it doesn’t get pushed back…

        • Yousif Alromaithi

Yeah. We have a lot games coming this year. Wonderful.

      • darkcreap

Yoshi 2015 too? Oh, that killed me, I didn’t remember the dates and thought it came on 2014. The Kirby with stylus does not do too much for me, though. I tried it at the DS and I was not convinced. I guess it must be similar.

      • Justin Thomas McGowan

And Captain Toad!!!! Which is obviously an off shoot of the Galaxy series :-)

    • JB

I suppose the good thing about all those 2015 games, folks can’t complain about Nintendo lacking content…

      • darkcreap

Yes, but they are constantly delaying. We were promised X in 2014. Come on. The games look good, the dates ugh.

By the way, I have seen the Starfox leak. I wonder why it wasn’t in the main presentation. I hope at least it does not come too late. The fact that Miyamoto appeared playing it at E3 might be a good signal, that is, it might come soon.

        • JB

It seems like the Big Three (MS, Sony, Ninty) has all the good games in 2015. That seems to be theme at E3 this year. So I can understand the pain. Though I can never remember a Nintendo 1st or 2nd party game being released on time. Let alone being delayed no less than twice. It’s par for the course for me now. Does it make me feel better accepting this? Not really, but I know the end result is usually an outstanding game…

As far as Star Fox, I hope it is really close enough to at least see a release at the beginning of the year if not a tad sooner.

    • keithmaxx

These titles are big, I’d rather they polish it to a perfect shine. Besides, Smash and Amiibo and Hyrule Warriors are out for people’s money this year.

  • Ducked

Sorry this was a poor teaser. I’m glad its open world, but I was expecting a realistic art style, like an HD Twilight Princess. Oh well, no Zelda game is bad.

    • Yousif Alromaithi

Look at how he jumped they are gonna change Zelda for the best. This e3 Nintendo beat Sony and Xbox to the ground. Nintendo will have awesome exclusives like GameCube.

      • Ducked

I feel kind of mad at the gaming world. All three consoles disappointed me. I have to wait for 2015 for pretty much every good game coming out.

  • http://6starwrestling.net/ Cybrus

I personally thought Skyward Sword was beautiful and like that they continue using that art style. It looks like a beautiful game and I can’t wait until it releases in 2015. That said, I do expect to see A LOT of hate over the next year plus. Nintendo didn’t do themselves any favors by showing an HD screenshot of a Twilight Princess boss battle all those months back.

  • Yousif Alromaithi

Best e3. Ever holy duck Nintendo kicked everybody ass. Lol at the shuts head for insulting Wii U last year. Yeah take that haters for saying Wii U Zelda is not shown today.

    • Ducked

I have mixed feelings. They did beat Xbox One and PS4, but I was expecting more.

I’d like to see a 3D Kirby game, almost all Nintendo IP’s on Wii U are 2D games. Still the games looked great. I really was hoping Nitnendo would tease Star Fox or Metroid.

      • Yousif Alromaithi

They teased Star Fox that is what fans wanted a long time ago. I am so happy.

        • Ducked

They teased Star Fox? How did I miss it?

          • JB

Time leaked the story this morning, but it got pulled. We’ll get to see more of it this afternoon I would imagine.

          • http://www.twitter.com/MegaJonahMan MegaJonahMan

At the very end, Miyamoto is playing something on the desktop and it matches the screens in the Time leak.

      • rp17

Did you not see the leak? Star Fox is coming later along with Miyamoto’s other games.

        • Ducked

No I must have missed it somehow.

          • MujuraNoKamen

It was blurred out on Miyamoto’s screen at the end of the presentaion but if you look closely you could tell it was an Arwing flying around.
The on the show floor he demoed it along with 2 other projects.

      • Yousif Alromaithi

Don’t worry Sonic Boom coming out this year.

    • Brandon

They did good, but I dont think they beat anyone.

      • Yousif Alromaithi

        They did lol.

        • Brandon

          Not really.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

            Deal with brah.

          • Brandon

Deal with the fact that all three did good, and that they all won. Im fine with that.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

Okay I deal with it. When Nintendo won and Sony won last year. Haters gonna hate.

          • Brandon

Hate on what? Im glad all three did good.

          • Yousif Alromaithi

It is all good bro. Let Nintendo have it’s time.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

They all brought great things this year. No one beats anyone in these events as they aren’t a contest, but a place to show off their offerings to their fans and consumers.

  • Ernie Sanguyo

If you guys didn’t like how the zelda came out then don’t buy it because I think it’s great and I can’t wait.

  • David

The proper thing to do right now is shit myself.

  • Santiago

    it looks absolutely astonishing

    • Santiago

and for those that ‘need’ real world looking graphics, there is hyrule warriors

    • JB

100 % agree. Of course Nintendo knows you can’t please everyone, so they just do what feels right stylistically. Can’t fault them for that.

  • Kyle

To everyone saying Link is looking like a girl, I think he’s just looking like a kid. In my opinion he’s looking like a cool young link. :D

    • Thomas Vienna

He looks more like a boy than Hyrule Warrior’s Link.

  • DeStarfighter

it looks nice, just wish that they would have shown moore.

  • Brandon

Well 2015 is going to be fun, not just for nintendo, but for all three.

  • Elvis Michael

The Wii U can take realistic graphics, and this is what we get. Way to go, Nintendo. Way to show off your console’s capabilities….

    …..NOT

    • Rinslowe

I didn’t want Skyrim with Link in it. I already have that one… lol
I wanted exactly what was shown. The only disappointment for me was that there wasn’t more to see…
It’s fresh. It’s mature themed. With cel shaded aspects to it’s art style. It’s, its own thing. And better for it IMO.

      • JB

Right. I’m thinking perhaps they wanted their vision for cel shading fully realized, and they just couldn’t do it with the tools they had with the Wii. I for one am excited. I have PS4 and XBOX ONE if I want something more gritty and realistic.

I will say that I do hope they explore the Twilight Princess style again someday.

        • Rinslowe

“I will say that I do hope they explore the Twilight Princess style again someday.”

So would I totally. But I won’t let that stop me from enjoying what looks like a stunning Zelda experience this time… :)

And yeah, it’s cel shading, but not like anything seen so far. It’s going a lot further than WW ever did. And that’s pretty obvious just from the small amount of footage shown. I’m psyched.

  • JB

Me personally I’m pretty damn excited! Did it look like the tech demo? No. Then again I never expected it to look like it (games rarely do). The game is probably going to be fun and gorgeous, regardless. I’m just glad we got so see something pertaining to the new Zelda.

  • http://Website.com Shane Michaels
  • watchin

I’m willing to even wait to 2016 if they go with a darker color scheme and realistic textures like in twilight

  • Thomas Vienna

Anyone else hear that rag-like piano for the chase scene? You may disagree, but I wouldn’t be opposed to a piano-based music score. It seems fitting, especially if I’m supposed to have a relaxed exploratory feel when I travel through Hyrule Field.

  • God804

I know im getting a little ahead of myself but this game looks like its gearing up to be the best zelda of all time.Twilight princess was personally my favorite but this is the game I been dying toplay on my wii u and the main rreason I have been holding on to it.

  • luis

    http://www.eurogamer.pt/articles/2014-06-10-star-fox-a-caminho-da-nintendo-wii-u

here´s a leaked photo of myamoto playing the new starfox for wii u

    • Roadkill409

      IGN has something in English

  • Roadkill409

If this game is being based off of the original Zelda, I am totally excited for this one.

  • Sdudyoy

Great, they made me greedy, I NEED to see more.

  • David Harris

Guess none of you pay attention. They said so many times that the twilight trailer years ago was just showing off the capabilities of the u. Link and Zelda look great in skyward sword. If you really look at them they are more realistic with emotions and personality. And that was just a small clip. I’m sure there will be a dark side as well. It is rumored to be called shard of nightmare.

  • MerryBlind .

For those who wanted a dark, realistic, and gritty Zelda, just put more pressure on Nintendo for a Majora’s Mask remake on Wii U. You can be sure that one will be dark and freaky (though with some funky colors here and there like the original).

    • Sdudyoy

No one is saying this game wont be dark either, Majoras mask proved that they can make a dark game with a colorful art style.

      • MerryBlind .

I was referring to the art style… I’ll edit my comment, I thought it was obvious.

        • Sdudyoy

No, I know what you were talking about, but alot of people are saying that this game looks kiddy, but I was just saying could still have a dark story.

          • MerryBlind .

Sure. Anyhow colorful =/= kiddy, people have to understand the difference between cartoon and stylized.

          • Sdudyoy

Yeah, I don’t think people are going to make the same mistake they did with Wind waker, I remember I was one of those people who didn’t want it because of the style, I regretted that decision, I’m getting this game day 1.

          • MerryBlind .

Yeah same. When I was young, I thought the GameCube was crap and an insult to the N64. I despised Wind Waker’s aesthetic. I finally got to play it this year on Wii U.

            It was amazing.

            And beautiful.

  • Jared Lytle

I think the world looks amazing and everything looks great, but they stopped themselves by having myamoto reveal those other games later and link’s character model…. I don’t care about the graphics style it just looks… bad.

  • 2muchrekage

Well….. For those complaining about graphics calm down its Zelda its not about graphics its about gameplay! So calm down!

    • https://www.imthegoddamnbatman.com Gamer Mania

What are you talking about? These fucking graphics in this open world is fucking amazing!!

    • Jared Lytle

I’m not complaining about graphics the overworld is visually stunning but link’s model is terrible. It looks awful

    • MerryBlind .

Well Zelda is about graphics too, since it’s about an adventure in a special world. The player has to want to explore that world. It’s about the music too.

Actually Zelda games are one of the few in which truly every single aspect of it is of tremendous importance for the whole thing to really come together to create something truly special.

  • https://www.imthegoddamnbatman.com Gamer Mania

    Legend of Skyrim: Erections abound

  • Zuxs13

Reggie was just on IGN. Hey didn’t deny Mother 3 was coming. Lets start the rumor mill.

  • Lil J Moore

    Nintendo won

  • iamserious

This Zelda game looks amazing!!!!! All in all Nintendo had a bunch of great games that I’m sure we will all enjoy. My only let down was the absence of a StarFox or Metroid game announcement. Of course that doesn’t mean there won’t be a StarFox or Metroid game coming down the pipeline. For now I am more than happy with the upcoming lineup. Great show so far Nintendo!

    • Zuxs13

Star Fox was on there. Watch the end of the event.

      • iamserious

        Seriously? Where???

        • Jared Lytle

starfox is confirmed they’re showing at 11 pacific time

          • iamserious

!$#@ yes!!!!! Nintendo brought their A game for sure!!!

        • Zuxs13

Miyamoto was playing star fox at the end of the event. Time already leaked the game and Reggie confirmed it on ign post event show

  • Allvalve

There will be lots of argument about the art style no doubt, but this is probably the way to go. With PS4 and XBoxOne putting so much emphasis on western developers and game styles they are slowly alienating the Japanese market. Nintendo know this, and have clearly designed the look of this new Zelda to appeal to the home market. This is a market they can win (unlike Europe and USA), and looking at the long term picture they can win back the likes of Konami, Namco, Tecmo etc as almost second party developers. That will be too late for the Wii U, but is the right move for its successor.

  • iamserious

Oh and btw I think the request of a few games being yelled out by the audience to Reggie means that those games will be coming too! Mother 3, StarFox, Metroid, Mario, etc.

    • Zuxs13

Read my post bellow Reggie didn’t deny the existence mother 3

      • iamserious

OMG thanks this is so freakin cool! I am most certain that this year Nintendo has pretty much done everything right!

    • Poopsy

Interesting. I hope you are right.

  • http://www.twitter.com/MegaJonahMan MegaJonahMan

I saw someone on youtube complaining that they hated the new Zelda because Link was too childlike and she wanted a romance between adult Link and Zelda. WTF is wrong with people. Make a fan fiction if that is what you want.

  • smithy501

If people notice this kind of cell shading is more advanced from what we had in wind waker HD which is a beautiful game, I can honestly say, that when more images come out and more trailers, that the art style will come into its own . it’s not kiddy graphics will people stop with that pathetic comment,, this is gonna be 1 vividly coloured advance cell shaded game that is gonna be released this gen, looks amazing,,

  • MerryBlind .

I’ve only seen the above screenshot since I can’t watch the video right now, but I’m sure it looks amazing just from that screeshot.

HOWEVER, I’m still really hoping that my idea (which I posted here some months ago and someone told me it would be stupid, not sure why) of having drastically different art-styles for both worlds (light or normal world and dark or outter world, like in most Zelda games) to please both crowds of the Zelda franchise: those who prefer the realistic and dark style, and those who prefer the stylized, colorful style.

I was suggesting to make the ‘normal world’ realistic, and dark, and whatnot, and make the ‘other’ world stylized like the above screenshot. Link would be jumping between both throughout the whole game, just like in A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, etc. Here the normal world is obviously like the screenshot above, but there’s still a possibility the ‘dark world’ will look completely different.

    • Poopsy

Take heart. There is still time for Nintendo to implement your idea. The dark world has not been reveled yet. I really hope Nintendo is reading this, because this would be a great opportunity for them to listen to their fans. Personally I hope they use a cubist style for the dark world. Anyone else have a favorite art style?

      • MerryBlind .

Cubist? Bwahahahahha that would be hilarious, but also very bad hahaha

  • brandon

I was really impressed with this video of Zelda Wii U. I didn’t expect this to look anywhere near this good! In my opinion, the video looks, sounds and has the style and atmosphere of an interactive, high – quality animated movie!

    • Sdudyoy

My biggest problem wasn’t the graphic style, but how short the trailer was!

      • iamserious

I think they will show more Zelda footage before E3 is over.

      • brandon

This is purely hypothetical, but perhaps Nintendo is planning some innovative gameplay and doesn’t want their competitors to steal their ideas.

  • Zuxs13

I did want a game like the tech demo or kinda like skyrim but with Nintendo flair. We got it. This looks amazing, open world stylized environments and more

  • swic11

Is anyone else concerned about the camera control? I really hope this game is like other 3rd person view zelda games. If this is essentially a side scroller, I am going to be extremely pissed. Its not open world if its a scroller.

    • C4

My guess if you can zoom out far like in Wind Waker, normal camera is like the normal 3rd person camera. Explains the first image (even if the camera is scripted in that case)

  • Nighcrom

I am totally okay with the cel-shaded look. Everything looks so bright, colorful, beautiful and full of life. Realistic look might be interesting… but that’s what so many games are going for nowadays that it’s becoming a bit redundant to me, personally.

  • NintenFan2013

WOW. It is exactly what I expected, Twilight Princess with a little wind waker/skyward sword influence. It should run at around 1080p 30fps? It looks great and should have WAY more info by the treehouse event.

  • Christian

    Here are the screens guys:

  • Jess Tapley

    VERY nice.

  • Sdudyoy

Time for crazy Zelda time line related theories, I think this one is the adult Link timeline, because of Link’s outset island looking clothes, this could be after they found New Hyrule, and were starting to settle there, this could even be the Toon Link from Wind waker grown up, I did say crazy theories though.

    • Grant

Based on the weird tech we saw, I’d say it’s set way before Skyward Sword (remember that time travel area in the Lanayru Desert? Looks kind of similar)

      • Sdudyoy

That’s true, also you can see buildings near Link at the beginning, there is a house, then further down the hill you can see a house with a well, then to the right of that there is a boat like thing, so it could be either, also another thing that makes me think it’s not in the adult Link timeline is that there is a mountain in the background that resembles Death mountain.

    • C4

Why not a completely new Hyrule & Timeline?

      • Sdudyoy

        It’s possible :)

  • Cutcopy

I think one of the most interesting things about this is Link’s design. He does have slender qualities and this might be the longest hair we’ve seen on him. Is it possible this might not even be Link?

  • watchin

I actually would prefer Hyrule warriors graphic style over this one

  • Arthur Jarret

Skyward sword-like? It’s a lot more like windwaker than Skyward sword.
That said – it looks absolutely gorgeous. Can’t wait. Give it to me now!

    • Sdudyoy

I actually hated Skyward swords art style, but this game is beautiful!

      • C4

Agreed it’s nothing like SS. maybe how SS should have looked! :P

        • Leo

Yes. I think this is what they were aiming for with SS but they couldn’t achieve the desirable look with the limited Wii hardware.

    • CapnCrumbles436

I really do feel like its an HD SS

  • juancamiloarq

Nintendo owns E3. End the discussion.

  • asdfg

    I hate the art style.

  • Elitepwnsface

That frame rate is terrible. The game looks amazing. Pretty sure that is just the video. This game makes my wii u all the more worth it.

    • Sdudyoy

Here this video is much better.

  • Justin Thomas McGowan

Absolutely amazed!!! It looks so beautiful! FINALLY we get to see games that prove how very powerful the Wii U really is!

    • oontz

If it looked like the original tech demo it would prove that. This does not.

      • Rinslowe

I disagree. There’s a lot more going on in this new reveal than the Demo. The demo may have been what people thought they wanted. But looking back, the colour palette was a little muted. It wasn’t more detailed. The lighting certainly wasn’t “more” advanced. The particle effects were not “more” advanced either.
The latest Zelda is technically more impressive than the demo…
What this “proves”, is that Nintendo art direction is still a force to be reckoned with. That Wii U is powerful enough to provide beautiful detailed worlds and fluid flawless animations in deep engaging looking environments.

The tech demo was not technically more impressive at all.

Check the dynamic lighting. The particle effects. The shadowing. It’s all more demanding than the tech demo hands down.

        • oontz

If the entire game was produced with the same realism and scope intended with the original tech demo, it would have pushed the wiiu to or past its limits. Nintendo has now found and perfected an art direction that better utilizes what’s under the hood in the wiiu and good for them. They can create beautiful worlds while at the same time masking the systems limitations.

          • Rinslowe

Have to disagree again, for all the reasons I mentioned. The latest Zelda, is technically above the tech demo. What you are comparing and inaccurately assuming is that realism requires more necessarily from the capabilities than the art direction shown. This is not true at all.

            What you said was;
“If it looked like the original tech demo it would prove that. This does not.”

Again the latest Zelda title is obviously more demanding than the tech demo…

          • oontz

“What you are comparing and inaccurately assuming is that realism requires more necessarily from the capabilities than the art direction shown. This is not true at all.”

Sorry but creating a realistic in game environment and characters with real HD textures and particle effects DOES require more processing than what’s being shown hear with this Zelda trailer. A lot more. Are you really trying to say that this zelda will be just as taxing on a system than say Dragon Age Inquisition? The original Zelda temple demo (if fully realized) would have been hard to achieve on the wiiu.

“Again the latest Zelda title is obviously more demanding than the tech demo…”

And I am the one making assumptions?

“Also curious as to how you know “what” was intended with the original tech demo.”

It’s zelda, a formula that has been around since the NES.

“Because it’s technically not more demanding in fact…”

Sorry a game with an art direction such as this is NOT as taxing on a system than one trying to achieve more realism, with realistic particle effects, lighting, shadows and HD textures.

I think it looks amazing, and I will buy it and play it. In the end that’s what counts.

          • Rinslowe

“Sorry but creating a realistic in game environment and characters with real HD textures and particle effects DOES require more processing than what’s being shown hear with this Zelda trailer.”

            Again, this is what you said;

“If it looked like the original tech demo it would prove that. This does not.”

The goal posts of this discussion as is the case with your arguments frequently change.

The tech demo. Is not more technically demanding than the latest Zelda title. Not just that, but realism with HD textures and particle effects does not necessarily require more. Only if the same game is compared side by side with a mirror double of each artsyle can this be made to be a practical point. lol

I think you’ve derailed your own argument. And the fact that you made a simple comparison in your first reply to another poster of which I replied to you. Stating factual observations from both the tech demo and the latest footage of the actual Zelda title, shows my opinion to be greater than assumption. Better lighting. Better particle effects and rendering, shadowing. Better animation fluidity. These are all metrics we can compare with the two from the “actual footage shown…

Sorry but I won’t discuss topics with someone who glosses over valid points just because he doesn’t like them.

          • oontz

This is the original post I replied too…

” FINALLY we get to see games that prove how very powerful the Wii U really is!”

            This is what I said…

“If it looked like the original tech demo it would prove that. This does not.”

Sorry let me be more specific…. In my opinion If the FULL zelda game was in the same art style as the 2011 E3 Zelda tech demo it WOULD PROVE the wiiu’s power. This trailer doesn’t prove the wiiu’s power. What it does prove is that Nintendo has found an art style and direction that uses the wiiu’s limited power to its advantage.

There is that better? I’ve even edited my post to make it easier for others to comprehend what I was pointing out.

“but realism with HD textures and particle effects does not necessarily require more.”

Yes it does. It’s a fundamental basis of computer animation and programming. With more power comes more freedoms, with less power you need to come up with creative ways to work around those limitations, as an example this latest Zelda trailer. Compare it to the latest gameplay of Dragon Age running on PS4. You going to really try and claim they require the same resources to run.

Again the game looks great, but it could look a lot better with more resources available. I’ll still buy it, and play it, and enjoy it.

          • Rinslowe

I said “this is what you said” and “your first reply” only. Case closed friend.

            Btw
” FINALLY we get to see games that prove how very powerful the Wii U really is”
That was an original comment not reply. Your comment was the original reply. As I stated.

I don’t need to know what you’re saying in specifics because that is not what I replied to.

Sorry to be difficult but that was your choice. To keep on the topic or try to prove points by changing the aspect of the discussion.

Is that better? Why are you asking me?

          • oontz

Cool. when are we going to play mario kart?

          • Rinslowe

I’ve been playing it almost non-stop all week, lol.
Taking my liberties this week until Friday morning. And having an E3 week of my own. Haha….

You should get some practice in first…

          • oontz

I am slowly going through and getting 3 stars on each track and speed. I’ve been playing MK since SNES. But never really online against others. Tried a few times on the wii but that was it.

          • Rinslowe

            It’s a lot more competitive online…
And yep. Was an all night’er on the original on many occasions…
But haven’t been the same way dedicated since until now. Kart 8 really is that polished.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Well, it certainly makes sense to me. I’m sure it can be argued to death, but you’re certainly right. It takes more effort with realistic in game environments. Zelda does have a unique art style and I have nothing against it, but it is easier to develop for than realism. Wii U does pack a fair amount under the hood, but it’s easy to tell that it has its limits.

          • Rinslowe

Was wondering when your coloured lenses would weigh in on an obvious topic. And as it was stated to the other guy. You’re simplistic view of resource allocation and taxing is showing, lol.
But believe what ever obviousness you need to, lol.

          • LukeF

You obviously know little about NPR animation or game development.

          • LukeF

This style is harder for the hardware to do than a realistic one. The ripples on the cell edges as the models turn indicate universal use of normal mapping, for instance.

      • LukeF

As a coder, let me correct you right now by saying that Non photo realistic styles are often more taxing on the hardware – with more complicated pixel shader trickery – than realistic games.

  • MujuraNoKamen

Wow I wasn’t expecting that. I was expecting a TP style or at least a detailed HD SS if they were going down the cartoony route again. but no, this. That Hyrule field looks amazing!

  • Stephen Davis

Would of liked to see more footage and as gorgeous as it may look, I think they undermined the power of initializing a new Zelda by going for the Paint/Cell Shaded look. I was hoping for something a little less skyward sword and more like the darker Skyrim

    • LukeF

The Skyrim/LOTR high fantasy style is totally unsuited to the more whimsical world of Zelda.

      • Stephen Davis

I think a style similar to what was shown at E3 2012 would have suited. Going for the Cell Shaded seems to take the cowards way out of utilizing the full potential of the hardware. With new hardware you expect something different, having no loading screens is nice step but by now they should understand we expect a little more.

        • LukeF

NPR rendering requires heavy and creative use of pixel shaders and can be just as taxing on the hardware, and often more, than photorealistic rendering.

  • Adam Porter

THE NEW LEGEND OF ZELDA IS FINALLY HERE EVERYBODY!!! :D

  • Adam Porter

nintendo just pulled all sorts of crazy shit out of the bag this year, everything they showed i want. maybe except hyrule warriors but everything else i want especially this and strangely i want splatoon aswell. brilliant show nintendo, i’m a very very happy wiiU owner now.

  • Adam Porter

i love the open world, i love the art style but link is a little on the fem side this time, a hero does need a little muscle.

  • PS4Rocks

Nintendo kicked butt this year and won E3 hands down and im sure the one sided fanboy will try to bash it and Zelda alone proves Wii U is not weak…just saying

  • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

Looks like waterpaint style, or something. Personally I liked the arstyle in Zelda: SSW, much more then Zelda: WW, Zelda: PH and Zelda: ST but nonetheless I preferred a much darker game (like TP) I kinda feel a little dissapointed, feels like a GC Tech Demo – final version WW all over again especially after the awesome Tech demo for WiiU…

But before the hate starts towards my personal preference hear me out a bit longer. This artstyle looks kinda interesting to me, far better then WW and in the style of SSW, the open-world gameplay makes my small dissapointment in artstyle completely and wholeheartedly forgotten as if it never was there at all. Open-world Zelda FTW. That alone is sufficient for me to be in love!

    • C4

It’s the closest we can get to the artworks of OoT 3DS and ALBW I think, considering they need to have consistent quality through large environments and characters.

      • LukeF

Yeah this is like a full realisation of Zelda concept art over decades and I’m really pleased!

  • bakedapplepie

Miyamoto just announced the new Starfox he is making for the Wii U on TreeHouse Live.

    • Arthur Jarret

Kotaku already played it hours ago, too

  • CEObrainz

Link’s design is disgusting imo, the rest of it looks great.

  • Andrè Follestad Johansen

Graphics looks like TP (especially the environment) meets Wind Waker HD
to me. Great choice in my opinion.

  • Marc N.

I expected not just such a short teaser… if it was true what they told us in 2013, that they could have shown us some material last year, well then I expected tons of trailers, screenshot, artwork etc…

I do not complain about the the trailer itself, it looks gorgeous, exactly what I like for Zelda. But it should have been more…

    • Sdudyoy

I’m guessing we will see more at the next Nintendo direct, I just don’t know when that will be,

  • mjnathans

I noticed Nintendo has uploaded trailers for most of the games from the digital 2 hours ago on their Youtube channel, however there is no Zelda video yet. This could mean that there is an official trailer with possibly a title and more footage. Why else would Nintendo post every other video trailer and skip Zelda, one of their most anticipated games? Could it be that they don’t want this short clip to be shared and tweeted in favor of a much Grander Introduction to the game?

  • Mithiragi
    • Sdudyoy

Link has so much emotion in his face, he has more emotion in his face in this one clip than he ever has.

      • Mithiragi

True. I don’t get why they put blush on him though. It makes him look more feminine, but I guess this Link could be a female. That would certainly spice things up, haha.

        • C4

What if he gets older during the game? Not like in OoT but maybe 1 or 2 years??

          • Mithiragi

Maybe. Who knows. We’ll have to wait and see. I can’t wait till will get more info on this game!

  • 00EpicGamer00

Am I the only one who has mixed feelings about this? Okay, I LOVE the environment. When Aonuma revealed what the game is going to look like, my jaw almost dropped. It was so beautiful. But…the one thing that REALLY made me upset, is Link’s character model…wtf happened? It looks so horrible. I REALLY hope that was a very early model. If Link still looks like that when the game releases…I’m not playing it, lol
(his eyes creep me out and he looks like a girl. I seriously thought it was Zelda before I saw the blue earrings….even his face looks like Zelda’s. Actually…what if it IS Zelda? And Nintendo WANTS us to think it’s Link? He/she has a bow with…light(?) arrows. That’s a weapon only Zelda usually uses. Come on, give me a break, Aonuma didn’t clarify who was on the horse/”Epona”).

I think Aonuma was paying more attention to the looks of the world rather than the characters. I think he might of designed Link at the last second. Which, that makes sense. I too would rather work on the world first and characters after. Just please fix him. Actually…what if this is the trailer Nintendo wanted to show at last year’s E3? And maybe they’re saving a more…”impressive” trailer for a Nintendo Direct or even next year’s E3. (I mean, for crying out loud, we didn’t even get what the name of the game is).

(Sorry for my ranting and…quite a long post. I didn’t know it’d be so long).

    • Rinslowe

I thought the character model looked great, imho. And much more in tune with my inner world of Zelda than link from WW/ WWHD. Even though WW’s characters were also pretty awesome. This new look is spot on in my books.

      • 00EpicGamer00

My only concern with the model is….the eyes and it looks WAY to feminine. The face is allot closer to a females than a males. And “he” has a pony tail? Also, “he’s” for some reason blushing. I just hope they fix “his” model to look more masculine. It’s just kind of sad Skyward Sword’s Link looks more masculine than this one. Heck, I even like Hyrule Warriors Link more than this one. I just want Link to look legit.

        • Rinslowe

Yeah, I just think that elf like people are sort of androgynous as a rule. I wouldn’t go as far as to say feminine. But even so I have no such hangups about that at all. It seems the west still does when it comes to style. A pony tail? That’s stylish in many cultures.
          Personally I dig it.
And the overly masculine caricature has been done to death. I’ll take Legolas as a main hero any day… :)

          But each to their own.

          • 00EpicGamer00

I happened to find this article that kind of makes you think a little bit (I already posted it up above a little ways, but just in case you missed it): http://venturebeat.com/2014/06/10/zelda-creator-teases-that-we-didnt-see-link-in-wii-u-trailer/

This got me thinking…what if it’s Zelda? Or maybe Link’s sister? If you look closely, you realize “Link” in this trailer is right handed…Link is left handed. And he/she doesn’t have a sword as a weapon, only a bow with “light” arrows. This evidence makes me believe it’s Zelda.

And before you go “but Link was right handed in Skyward Sword and (Wii) Twilight Princess.”
Yes, he’s right handed in those. But, he was right handed because most people hold a Wii remote in their right hand than their left. But for this new Zelda game, it’s using the Wii U gamepad. No motion controls. So, if this was Link, he’d be left handed like he usually is.

          • Rinslowe

Yeah that could be possible. To me it seems like the build of a young male character with expressions in line with that look for a male. But anything is possible and they could dramatically change the characters body type once revealed to be Zelda in her own garb later etc…
But I think it’s Link. I think it’s safe to assume that for now too.
Whatever it turns out to be it’s all good with me, lol.

I just hate that we have to wait so long before being able to play it…. But that was expected.

          • 00EpicGamer00

Indeed, whatever happens I’m sure we’ll like it. Maybe this game will have Zelda and Link working together? Maybe in dungeons there’ll be a tag team sort of thing? Like, only Zelda can do a certain task, and vice versa. Maybe a 2 player co-op mode.

          • Rinslowe

A Zelda + Link local and online coop would put this title easily on the GOTY status. And it’ll likely get close without it…
So totally. One of the recent confirmations to Bayo 2 that sets it apart. Looks like X is going that way too. This is possibly Nintendo acknowledging the online space as important. But in that way that they feel adds to experiences instead of just there cause it’s in the hardware. I like this side of Ninty…

          • 00EpicGamer00

Yeah, having a tag team, optional co-op mode actually makes sense. If I’m remembering correctly, didn’t Aonuma say that he wanted to change the way Zelda is played? Such as the order of completing dungeons, and always having to play by yourself.

          • Rinslowe

Yeah. I heard rumour of X having the same function for coop. SO it could be a theme Nintendo are pushing for in their games now. Fits the system perfectly no? And playing Zelda with family at the same time or with friends online seems like Zelda heaven. lol.
Normally I’ll be playing Zelda while people just watch for the ride…

  • TheGamerGeek128

If that’s how it’ll look in-game, then it is the prettiest game Nintendo has ever made, hands down. Coupled with that arrow and the Rock/robot guy, I think I’m really gonna this game’s art direction, almost reminds me of the Team ICO artstyle. Also Link looks kinda…off.

  • discuss

I can’t tell if it’s zelda or link which is a bad thing.
    The rest looks great.

  • Jack

This is going to be epic. I cannot wait for this. Definitely one of my most anticipated games across all systems. :)

  • Loloa

For all ppl, that say its looks bad or it is glitchy/bad framerates.
Remember this is most likey Still some very early alpha and Used with some screennig device for large screens.

It will look much better Next year E3.

    (Sorry for the bad grammar)

  • Leo

I love the art style! and i love that Nintendo kept the blue color on Link’s clothing!

  • Adrian

Just got home from work and watched this. Link looks nothing like a girl like some people said. WW link kind of looks like a girl, not this link. Also, this looks nothing like Skyward Sword.
    The artwork looked beautiful.

  • Eric

I think the art style fits Zelda perfectly. The Wind Waker had the right idea, but the model designs were just… weird. Skyward Sword was a step in the right direction, but this is out of this world gorgeous.

Here’s hoping the open world aspect delivers on it’s promises.

  • kopaka7

GUYS, their article from 2012 was actually telling the truth! Look at the article in the link; the art style, the field, the open world nature–it’s all in there! I was really shocked. So this source was legit the whole time.

    http://wiiudaily.com/2012/09/wii-u-zelda-game-coming-2014/

    • bistricky

Thank you for posting this link kopaka7 …… it was an amazing read …… and really answers a lot of the questions about the direction they will be taking with Zelda U.
Ashley and gang from Wii U Daily ….. it would be really great if you were to repost your 2012 article in the near future.
      Cheers :D

      • kopaka7

You’re welcome. I changed my mind like the day before E3 on what visual style I wanted, but from 2011-early 2014 I really wanted a style like Skyward Sword because I thought it was a really dynamic style and it gave the characters a lot of expressive power. I don’t know how much of the article we can take as being true. As FutureFox said, the date was wrong, but games frequently get delayed, and the article eerily resembles the reality. If you look at the description of the Miiverse features, it says “sort of system where players can leave hints and help each other in the dungeons.” This was a year before we had Wind Waker and the Tingle Bottle that worked exactly as stated here, so unlike so many other Zelda rumors out there, I feel this is really correct.

    • FutureFox

I see your article and raise this quote from it, “…set for release in 2014 on the Wii U.” Grossly miscalculated much as the 2015 window.

      • kopaka7

I think that it is natural for a game to be delayed while in development. Because X was moved from 2014 to 2015, which is a pretty big change. Almost no recent Zelda games have shipped according to their initial launch date, like Twilight Princess moving from 2005 to 2006 and Skyward Sword moving from 2010 to 2011.

  • ktos
  • Priscila

I like the style, I played skyward sword and I found great although twinlight look better with respect to graphics, but that does not mean that Skyward is not cool, I just hope that what they say that the map of this game is more bigger than skyward because you tired of going to the same places and twinlight is very short

  • Chase Benfield

Trash. I bought a Wii U because I saw the E3 2011 clip for Zelda to be released on the Wii U. How does the game look worse after 3 years? I’ve always supported Nintendo, but I am done. Nintendo shows a sick game that will never be released to get people to buy a Wii U. If you ask me the is just unethical. Who knows if this game will be released on time if at all. Anyone else feel the same on this one? Nintendo lies about a game point blank and then instead of just releasing it late sells a game cube remake and later… much later gives some trash Hyrule Warriors game that is nothing like any Zelda game anyone I know likes the franchise for. Oh and wait, here is a clip of another game that won’t be released until sometime in 2015 (probably Christmas) with subpar graphics to the game they got you to buy the
system for. I want my money back.

    • http://macromanjr.blogspot.com/ Brian Lockett

That what you saw in 2011 was just a tech demo, not a preview. But I do quite understand your frustration. I too was looking forward to something more along the lines of the tech demo, rather than another cel-shaded-style game. Nintendo just doesn’t know how to play their best hands anymore.

    • LukeF

Zelda shouldn’t be realistic. I disliked TP for that reason, and so did Miyamoto and Aonuma, who have always personally favoured stylised looks. MM and OOT were actually very stylised. Realistic just sucks all the charm out. It’s good for insecure male teenagers I guess. But your comment shows you have no taste.

      • Umjereni

Excuse me, but what you write is a complete nonsense and above all very immature. Just because some of us would prefer a more realistic visual approach like the one shown as a tech demo, doesn’t mean that we are insecure male teenagers. Jesus, there are really weird people around. BTW, TP is the most sold Zelda ever.

Uh I’m immature? I’m replying to a guy who felt that the Zelda Wii U trailer was ‘unethical’ (!!!!!!) and had ‘subpar graphics’ (based solely on it being non-photorealistic), despite the fact that it is, by most accounts, one of the most beautiful renditions of a painterly/anime style ever made. In that context, yes, when Chase Benfield calls it ‘trash’ *for the sin of merely not being realistic* then damn right I call out an adolescent, ‘dudebro’ attitude, which is what it is.

Open world Zelda sounds awesome. cant wait for this game!!!!

I really like the art direction for the game! 2015 is what many people have been saying for a while now, and I’d guess Q3 or 4. The reveal was cool but very short. It’s obvious they didn’t have a lot to show, and that it being pulled from E3 last year is BS.

The distinctive waist line, pony tail and just feminine looking face hints to that not being link.

Except he kinda looks like Link?

      • 00EpicGamer00

The only resemblance that this character has to Link is of course the blue earrings, the blue eyes…and I guess the “blond” hair but that doesn’t really count cause…it’s hair color. The eye color doesn’t really count either. I kind of have a little theory (I thought it up just now actually) what if it is Zelda and this game is taking place during Ocarina of Time? When Impa is taking Zelda away from Hyrule castle, maybe for this game, we are living through what Zelda had to go through.

i’m happy with what i see.. only thing is that my mind tells me the game is in an early stage of development, else we would have seen far more. sooooo … christmas 2015 boys and girls…. long ass wait (worthwhile) but just long..as with the other 2015 titles.

I absolutely hate the new graphics. The tech demo in 2011 looked a MILLION times better. Im really disappointed. but obviously i will still buy it.

  • 00EpicGamer00

    Everyone…take a look at this article I found….maybe the…person in this trailer isn’t Link after all. http://venturebeat.com/2014/06/10/zelda-creator-teases-that-we-didnt-see-link-in-wii-u-trailer/

    I WANT TO SEE MORE!!!

  • Rey Castillo España

I was expecting a realistic art style used in the tech demo, or in Twilight Princess. I’m not sure about this, but i think we should wait until E3 2015 to see some changes, a real gameplay and then we can judge.

One of my most anticipated games, dissapointed me in the graphics and art style since its the 3rd zelda game in a row using cell shading and i guess a lot of fans were expecting something like the wii u tech demo but i know it will still be a succes, a great game is made by the gameplay and the experience it gives u, still i wanted that plus.

Maybe it was the quality of the Direct but did graphics of the world look kinda blurry?

  • iamserious

I’ve been on the fence about whether or not this is Link but now I’m pretty dang sure after watching IGN rewind theater that this is a girl. The pony tail, the long bundles of hair going passed the ears and earrings in both ears, the thin eyebrows, big eyes and lashes and small mouth and of course the fact that the whole head was covered leads me to believe this is not Link. IF it is Link then I honestly feel that he looks to feminine no matter the age.

  • Paquito19962

I love it! This was my dream about a Zelda game!

  • iamserious

Confirmed: protagonist in the Zelda trailer IS Link.
