Your free MK8 promotion game also qualifies for the Digital Deluxe Promotion

wii-u-nintendo

If you still haven’t picked up Mario Kart 8 yet despite the current offer of receiving a free game in addition to your purchase, you might like to know if you bought a 32GB Wii U and sign up for the digital deluxe promotion, the free game that you get a download code for also awards points, essentially earning you $5 back from your purchase. If you purchase Mario Kart 8 digitally, this adds another $5 in credit thanks to the 599 points you receive from the download. The offer for the free game for Mario Kart 8 ends July 31, 2014 so be sure and purchase the game before then if you want to take advantage of the offer.

If you don’t care about the extra points you’d earn from the digital deluxe promotion on the initial Mario Kart 8 purchase, Amazon currently has a sale on Mario Kart 8, offering it for $49. Either way, it’s nice to see that a game Nintendo gives you for free will also count toward your digital deluxe promotion credit, which is a great way to get cash back on digital purchases.

  • Zakariyya Al-Quran

just a correction, the mario kart 8 free game deal expires july 31 not august 31 so you have to have registered the game by then

    • http://about.me/overlordror Ashley King

You’re right, I fixed it. Thanks!

      • Zakariyya Al-Quran

your welcome, when i saw it I was confused because i myself haven’t bought Mario kart 8 yet so i wanted to know until when so i checked it because i didnt think they extended it

  • Ducked

I never used my deluxe bundle promotion from when I bought my Wii U Black Friday last year. How long until it expires?

    • Zakariyya Al-Quran

i never i used it recently and turns out all rewards from club nintendo count on it i used club nintendo points to buy a Super Mario World virtual console and got 80 points, what sucks though is you need to get 500 points before they give it in a giftcard code. i also bought luigi u so that added on

      • Ducked

Oh so it’s activated when you register your Wii U on Club Nintendo?

        • Zakariyya Al-Quran

yes and as long as you made a NNID and connected to the internet it should have reigistered but based on what ashley just said it eems like theyre gonna end it by 2015 so hurry up and register the games

          • Ducked

Ok. Thank you! It looks like I’m good then.

          • Kevdbeast

I’d say about $50,because of replay value with friends, feel free to add me tho, kevdbeast,Ill warn you tho,I’m don’t show mercy ;)

          • Kevdbeast

            lol wrong comment

        • Zakariyya Al-Quran

just login here and it should be self explanitory https://p.nintendo.net/deluxe

          • Ducked

Thanks for the link. I’m 22 points short of that gift card.

    • http://about.me/overlordror Ashley King

The terms of service for digital deluxe promotion seem to hint that the program will be folding by 2015. There’s no specific date listed yet, but it says any points not used by 2015 will expire and be irredeemable, meaning it looks like Nintendo plans on canning the promotion 3 years after the launch of the Wii U.

      • Ducked

Ok I get it. Thank you!

      • RyuNoHadouken

i bought mine on launch day, i think Trine 2 and the free Pikmin 3 with MK8 are the only digital games i have…i probably only have like 6 bucks on eshop…lol

        • Fred

only $5 then, they give you the certificates in $5 increments. I know the program very well as I’ve been using it since the Wii U launched. I’ve downloaded over $800 worth of digital games on my Wii U and earned 16 $5 gift certificates. ($80 in total free eShop credit)

      • greengecko007

        There is a specific date. From the digital promotion web site;

“Deadline to earn Points: End of December 2014.
Deadline to exchange Points to receive activation codes: End of March 2015.

Codes for Nintendo eShop credit earned from the Deluxe Digital Promotion must be redeemed by the end of June 2015.

・There is no deadline to use funds once added to your balance in the Nintendo eShop.”

    • greengecko007

You are able to earn points until December 31st of this year, exchange points for eShop codes until the end of March next year, and the codes redeemed on the eShop until June of next year.

    • bistricky

I also bought my Wii U on Black Friday last year …… :D

      • Ducked

Cool! I got mine at Gamestop to get Super Mario 3D World for $25

        • bistricky

Oh you did better then I did …. got the deluxe for $248 (the one with NintendoLand) and decided to buy a Wii U because I wanted Super Mario 3D World (paid full price $59 for it).

Two days before Black Friday, I didn’t even know the Wii U existed … I thought it was a Wii. LOL

          • Ducked

Still not a bad deal. I had planned on getting the Zelda bundle but they were sold out, so I bought the NSMBU bundle, so I got two Mario games plus Luigi U for $325.

Lol you aren’t alone there! I thought that when I read about the wii u in a magazine back in early 2012. Nintendo really could have marketed it better.

          • bistricky

Ya, surprise surprise …… it was a Super Mario 3D World television commercial that I saw which got me to my local electronics store to buy a Wii U …. go figure; advertising works ….. I don’t understand why Nintendo barely advertise on television. But I am happy they did, that day before Black Friday. Cheers :D

    • Zuxs13

Program ends Nov 2015. The points expire a year later I think.

  • Daniel Carvalho

If I manage to get a job and save money for it until July 31 I’m sure to get it, but the console costs almost two times a minimum wage here… plus the game that costs 4 times what it should…

    • Zakariyya Al-Quran

i wouldnt say 4 times the game honestly is pretty good and more than expected in my opinion but id say its worth about 45$

      • Daniel Carvalho

No, I mean games in Brazil cost 4 times what should cost. 75% of what you pay are taxes, the last 25% is the actual price.

Here, a game costs around R$200,00 or R$250,00. Converting to Dollar (assuming R$1,00 = US$2.00, just a close estimative), Mario Kart 8 would cost something between US$100.00 and US$125.00, when it should actually cost R$50,00 (US$25).

  • Kevdbeast

I am 8 points away, witjout using the code yet.looks like this guy is getting a $10 gift card.

    • Fred

that depends on which free game you got. If you got Pikmin 3 like I did you’ll get credit for buying a $59 game. If you pick Wii Party U I think you only get 400 points since it’s a cheaper game so in that case you’d only get the 1 $5 gift card instead of 2 $5 cards.

      • Kevdbeast

Looks like Pikmin 3 it is!

        • Fred

Awesome I hope you like it

  • Des

I wish the free game choices were better but I guess beggars can’t be choosers.

    • Zuxs13

Better? They are the systems best selling games that’s why they were chosen.

      • Des

Having 4 “best sellers” be the chosen 4 comes with it’s down sides. It means that many of the people who’ve owned the system for some time would have already bought the games that appealed to them. That’s why they’re best sellers. I already own New Super Mario Bros U because that game appealed to me. Which left Pikmin 3 (never liked its predecessors), Wind Waker HD (not into Zelda games) and Wii Party U (not interested in yet another party game). For a new Wii U owner, I’m sure they might be interested in one of those games. Me, I settled for the party game. Just in case anyone who visits is interested in those types of games but not because I really wanted it. But you’re right I could have used a better word than “better”. How about….. “I wish the free game choices were more appealing to me.”

  • Nicolas Dorion

“despite the current offer of receiving a free game in addition to your purchase” wait what?? How do I do that???

    • Fred

get a club nintendo account, register your copy of Mario Kart 8 on club nintendo, answer the survey questions,
the next time you log into club nintendo they’ll offer you a free game (which games you get depends on if you’re in US or Europe)

      • Nicolas Dorion

        thanks!

    • MerryBlind .

lol you didn’t know about that already? If you bought Mario Kart 8, you must register the ClubNintendo code that came in the box, on your ClubNintendo account, and they’ll give you a game for free, in addition to the ClubNintendo coins (all Nintendo games you purchase new have a ClubNintendo code to register which gives you coins, and the Nintendo coins can be used to get small free games like SNES VC games, or goddies like t-shirts and stuff).

  • Willie Crespo

    Indeed it does.

However, my copy of MK8 didn’t register in my DDP account.

    • Yen

Did you digitally download it? If you did it digitally and it didn’t register you should call Nintendo about it.

    • Fred

Do you have a Deluxe Wii U or a Basic White one?

  • Lusunup

They need to do something for the ones who got the 8gb white basic set… I mean seriously I feel that we got left out, and ripped offgot mine for $300 because they ran out of deluxes at launch, and now six months later the deluxe was 300 dollars with a free game, and the basic we paid for…. we need a program too NINTENDO.

    • hikkerd

That’s the risk of buying consoles early or mid time my friend.

      • Lusunup

it was just so tempting I could resist purchasing a basic set for my ZombiU, and Tekken tag oh well *sigh*

    • Fred

You got a program. 30th anniversary of the Famicom they sold a whole bunch of NES and SNES games for 30 cents each. Everyone that bought at launch got awesome games like Punch-out and Super Metroid for 30 cents each. I have a buddy that just bought a Mario Kart 8 bundle and he didn’t get that deal!
As far as I’m concerned that was the Wii U Ambassador Program

      • Lusunup

That 30 cents program for classic games didn’t really wow me in terms of what I get. I love the classic games but I already purchased them on the wii.

        • Fred

What do you want. They’re not obligated to give us anything. They wanted more people to buy the Deluxe and they wanted people to buy games digitally so they created the program in a way that would get them both objectives. It doesn’t benefit you, but they announced the program before you bought the basic. Yes the Deluxe was sold out on launch day, but it was back in stock withing a few days. Just sell your White one and get the Zelda one

    • Roadkill409

I hear you. I have the black version but I don’t download many games so the promotion, for the most part, is lost on me. But I guess at least I have the option. It is a nice program for those who use it.
One of the problems, as I see it, with downloading games, is if you buy a game that you don’t like you are stuck with a game forever. For example, my wife is really into music, I don’t know why I am admitting this, so I bought her Wii Music. Well….if I had downloaded that game I would never have been able to traded it in and buy Mario Kart Wii.

    • Zuxs13

Sense of entitlement much? The ddp was known about long before the launch took place and the price drop happened. It was the incentive to buy the deluxe model. Early adopters always get short changed. If you want a good deal on a console wait till its last year on the market!

      • Dying_in_this_Crap_World

        says the douche on welfare.

        • Zuxs13

          Huh?

    • Denvy

So they ran out of Deluxe models and forced you to purchase a basic? That’s cold. You do deserve free stuff for that.

      • Lusunup

I understand you have to be sarcastic about this but you wouldn’t know what I been through in order to get one. I just really wanted to play the games so I dud force myself to buybthe basic set.

        • Denvy

I suppose I don’t really. But at the same time, it wasn’t sold out all over like the Wii was at launch. I guess “you get what you pay for” is still relevant.

  • Rich Garriques

cool just went on and apperently i have 10$ in total from my mk8 purchase

  • LordiMcKill

Yeah i realised this, the night I bought MK8 and downloaded Sonic LW.

    • MerryBlind .

What do you think of Sonic Lost World? Are you enjoying it so far?

    • Yash Patel

I’d like to know that too. I have Sonic Lost World for the 3DS. the 1st world was pretty good, but the second one kinda sucked. Any better on the Wii U?

  • Razo_E

I discovered this the day MK8 came out and I got my free game. I currently have $10 in credit just chilling in my account awaiting some Virtual Console games.

  • ScrewAttack

Just like I said in the comments of an MK8 article the day the game released. keep up.

  • DustinALedonne

The offer for the free game for Mario Kart 8 ends July 31, 2014 so be sure and purchase the game before then if you want to take advantage of the offer. http://sn.im/290xdj8

  • Roadkill409

Does the “free” game also work for Nintendo club points?

  • blindtiger

i hate the digital deluxe program… i was such an impatient nintendo fan that i couldnt wait for deluxe bundles to be restocked at launch. and because of that i dont get the bonus. boo… hoo.

    • blindtiger

AND i paid full price for nintendoland and the cradle

  • DC777

Kind of dislike this whole deal since I got the white one which wasn’t available in “deluxe”. Not like there is bonus for buying 2 Pro Controllers.

    • Dying_in_this_Crap_World

the promote is indeed bizarre. The white system is much sexier. Don’t know why Nintendo dissing everyone over 24 crappy gb.

  • Roaming Pear

I don’t think this worked for me somehow…

  • Poop

    slowpoke much?

  • rp17

Okay so I got Super Mario World for free from Club Nintendo last month. Then I bought the retail version of Mario Kart 8. I used the promotion to get WWHD for free. After I figured out the DDP, I found $5 from downloading those 2 free games, along with another $5 from a while back. I proceeded to use this to get 1001 spikes for free. This download also counted towards my points and I am halfway to another $5!

  • Zuxs13

This goes for much any game you download from the eShope whether you paid for it or got a dl code for ot you get points based on the dollar amount. Its been that way from the beginning. I’ve gotten 8 games for free because of this.

  • Erik Mozolik

Yep. Chose Wind Waker for my free game and then used the credit to purchase the original Legend of Zelda. Now, if only my son will stop playing Mario Kart 8 so I can play Zelda ;)

  • Dying_in_this_Crap_World

Tax kills the deal. 30$ tax here in LA…………..

  • bizzy gie
  • thedeciderU

wow, so basically, we get at minimum 2 free games with mk8 (if you use your eshop credit on a game $5.99 or less). that’s amazing! so much value. i’ve already gotten about half my eshop downloads for free since i had a wii u from day one and got all the vc promos, and i don’t download a single retail game. plus the browser is sweet and when i moved and couldn’t have the tv set up, i could still play games, watch movies, browse internet, etc.

fuck yes, nintendo. you’re doing a lot of things right lately. please DON’T STOP what you’re doing! btw, awesome E3 – we needed a good one from you!

  • Miles “Tails” Prower

Too bad I can’t even get my free game due to not having a 32gb wii u. :/

  • ShortyStock
  • Spaniard0069

I’m holding off on redeeming my free game in hopes of NOA adding more free games to the list. I own all the games they are currently offering, except for Wii Party U (no thank you). In Europe they got a better selection, including some 3rd party games.

Great article! I just wanted to say this post is right on the money.
Apps are difficult to market, and games specifically have there own
challenges. Video is definitely one of the best tools to get started
with, and search engines love video. Most apps need explanation with a
voice over, but most games dont, so you really need to present the game
play in an enticing way and keep it short. You can make one yourself
easily with your developer tool and a decent screen recorder. It takes
some time but its well worth it. You
could also just pay somebody to
do it. I personally have used blue fortress media to make mine, but I
know there are other good ones like appvj, wyzowl, and demo fuck. Either
way good luck to you! And once again great article.
    Regards
    Thanks regards
