Natsume announces Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley

Harvest Moon The Lost Valley Logo

Today Natsume revealed that the next title in the farming RPG series Harvest Moon is called Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley. The game will be launching on the Nintendo 3DS next year and it will be showcased during E3 next week. This game will be the first that employs a three-dimensional setting for the first time, including a fully customizable world.

Natsume President Hiro Maekawa says this game will take Harvest Moon back to its roots while continuing to innovate.

Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley is truly evolving the franchise. Hardcore fans will love it, players who haven’t played a Harvest Moon game in a while will want to try it out, and new players will be introduced to the unique and charming world that is Harvest Moon. But the incredibly exciting thing that really elevates the game is that while it does get back to what everyone loves about the early games, it also innovates in a way that no Harvest Moon game ever has.

We’ll be taking a look at the game at E3 next week, so stay tuned.

Once again I am lost…this isn’t made by the actual Harvest Moon team at Marvelous…So has the Harvest Moon series been split into 3 branches now? The Main Harvest Moon Branch, The Rune Factory Branch and now the “Harvest Moon” branch?

    • abe

Yes though rune factory devs are gone. Though ifnew “harvest moon” can be developed by a different team to “not” harvest moon then surly natsume could also make a new rune factory…. My head hurts

      • Gammalad

Marvelous owns the rights to the name Rune Factory but not Harvest Moon (Which is why Rune Factory 4 was not called Rune Factory 4:A Fantasty Harvest Moon) this is just going to go nowhere.

        • Jon

Marvelous doesn’t own the rights to Rune Factory, Neverland does but they are bankrupt. However Marvelous did hire the dev team that created Rune Factory and they are creating a new game. But to my knowledge, Marvelous did not acquire the Rune Factory IP so the new game those developers are making will probably have a different name than Rune Factory.

    • Jon

There was never seperate branches. Rune Factory was created by NeverLand who is now bankrupt and the dev team was hired by Marvelous. The creators of the Harvest Moon games was actually Victor Interactive Software which was acquired by Marvelous Entertainment in 2003 so Marvelous owns the games that the Harvest Moon games came from. The Harvest Moon games were actually called Farm story in Japan and Natsume only localized the games, they never created or developed them. However because of the latest game that Marvoulsy did, they gave it to their subsidiary company Xseed to so instead of Natsume. So in turn, Natsume decided to develop their first farm simulator game and they are going to call it Harvest Moon to compete with Story of Seasons. This harvest moon game they are creating is technically not part of the previous harvest moon series as those games are not actually there, just the name “Harvest Moon” is theirs.

I hope that didn’t confuse you more.

      • Gammalad

Oh no I knew most of that already, however too many people think Natsume owns the entire Harvest Moon series, however I do wish they would come out and say this is our own take on Harvest Moon and not the Harvest Moon that has been made by Marvelous AQL, they are making this game sound like it is the direct game after A New Beginning when in fact this game is just the start of an entirely new Harvest Moon series.

        • Jon

yeah I get what you are saying but if they did that, people would be more hesitant to buy it. I mean think about it. If they go out and say “Hey, here is our new Harvest Moon game… that is not really Harvest Moon but another game made by different people”. People would be a lot let likely to just go and buy which is why they are doing it the way they are. People know the name harvest moon and that’s probably what they are hoping for.

For me, I will have Story of Seasons pre-ordered, this Harvest Moon game, I’ll wait until the gameplay videos and reviews plus extra when people have actually play through it. Natsume…. just doesn’t seem like a company to go above and beyond as they have a big reputation of spelling errors and moving very slow and where as they have never created one of these games… I’ll definitely need to look into it before I buy.

          • Gammalad

I contacted Natsume and they said they will be sure to make sure to tell everyone this is a different kind of game from the main Harvest Moon series. At this point I hope they are not lying.

        • truMADDness

Which can’t be all that bad. It is a new generation. Innovation and change should be welcome. Why progress in technology only to stand still?

          • Gammalad

To lie to consumers and use the name of a franchise that someone else built up to sell your own product is rather deceitful. Natsume should have the common courtesy to come out and say “This is different from the standard Harvest Moon made by Marvelous”

          • truMADDness

Decietful yes, but isn’t that what corporations and businesses do? It is and always has been. And it always will. In the new Harvest Moon case, they didn’t claim they were anything they are not. At least I didn’t read anything like that in this article. And wouldn’t it be illegal to use a name they didn’t have rights to? Names mean everything in that business, people come and go. No need to show anger towards any company that provides a service (paid or not) to the public. If I don’t like something, I won’t support it. But it is always good to voice an opinion. Kudos to you for that. Too many people this day and age complain and argue, but in the end they buy the product. Companies won’t get the hint if that keeps happening. If I was that”put off”, I simply won’t buy the games. If I want old school, I play the old games.

Well there goes my hopes for a WiiU version any time soon. But glad to see another HM game.

    • Sdudyoy

Well, that’s just one of three unannounced Natsume games.

    • Ducked

I’d rather have a Wii U Animal Crossing

I misread and thought you wrote MH(Monster Hunter) but on closer inspection I saw you wrote HM :) But man has been so long I played a HM game, might give this a shot indeed, but first want to see stuff about it on upcoming E3.

  • Ducked

Never played a Harvest Moon but they’ve always looked interesting.

    • Gammalad

Let me tell you now this is NOT Harvest Moon this is just a clone of the same name.

  • Jon

It should be noted that this game is not actually part of the official Harvest moon series. This is a completely new game that is being developed by Natsume. The Original Harvest Moon games were created by Victor Interactive Software (acquired by Marvelous Entertainment in 2003) and Natsume only localized the games. The next game in the real series is being done by Xseed and will be called “Story of Season” and this new Harvest Moon game by Natsume will be out in order to compete with the original series.

  • Adrian

Totally was hoping in my heart of hearts that Harvest Moon for WiiU would be announced at E3. :’(.

  • andrew

ok i have never played harvest moon so can someone explain to me the difference between this and animal crossing?

    • Cyntheta Luis

      1. More advance farming
      2. real human villagers you can date
      3. you raise real farm animals, yeah they don’t talk like in Animal Crossing, they’re adorable nonetheless.

  • Gizmo

I prefer rune factory over harvest moon but still that’s cool news
