Pier Solar HD for Wii U has been delayed

Pier Solar HD for Wii U has been delayed, developer WaterMelon reported on Saturday on their official website. The delay has been blamed on the game failing to pass internal requirements to meet certification on the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One. What’s that have to do with the Wii U? Well, the team wants to make sure that the game is released on all consoles at the same time, so the Wii U version has to wait for the Xbox version to meet certification.

Microsoft already evaluated Pier Solar as well but we failed some internal requirements on the certification and we’re correcting them for the next submission. This also impacts Wii U and PlayStation(s) submissions since we want to send it as clean as possible so that we don’t get another failed certification. Luckily, the process doesn’t take as long as we thought, so the perspectives to getting a release date gets better. As soon as we’re certified on all platforms we’ll announce the date and put it on the street.

To help soften the blow of the delay for its fans, WaterMelon also used the opportunity to detail what’s coming in the Director’s Cut of the game, including new places to explore with new bosses and storylines that are wrapped up beyond what the original release offered. In addition, here’s what else is new:

  • There are new places to explore, with new bosses and new chests to open.
  • Some loose ends got tied. Why is Alina the only elf? Why are our heroes the chosen ones? Why Zelini and Alina don’t get along? Find out all about it on PSHD.
  • New ending. In addition to the original Pier Solar ending, a new ending is possible. Maybe a secret ending too?
  • New sidequests.

Wow, we have to wait for the other guys. How about give the people who were looking forward to it first. I doubt 360 or Xbox One fans care for games like this. Devs suck these days.

    • Marioman21

No actually they have to do it because Microsoft has a rule on their shop policy that any game that is realizing on their shop must release at the same time or before other versions otherwise they will not allow it on their shop. This forces developers hand because that is a potentially large number of lost sales.

      • The Clockwork Being

That policy really sucks. But what about No man`s sky? PS is getting a full year before the Xbox family?

        • Petri

I think MS has to eat some humble pie, at least for now, until their user base on xbone grows something little more substantial.
They can pull this shit with small and less popular indies.
Their policies, that they will enforce, makes me hope that they wont get up to PS4, or even Wii U numbers.

        • Marioman21

It is only for indies. Id No Man’s Sky an Indie I can not remember.

      • FutureFox

What about timed exclusives that the other guys (really, Sony) get ahead of M$?

But to David’s point if there was some way of knowing what the size of the audience would be in a M$ platform the devs could just say screw you and release on Steam, Apple and Google to supplement or exceed the lack of xbox users and sell along with Sony and Nintendo. But hey, its their prerogative.

        • Marioman21

          It is only for indies.

    • iamserious

Like Ubisoft did with Rayman Legends!

Someone should make a game based on the gaming industry and call it Delayed.

I can see it in the headlines now: Delayed gets….delayed.

  • Jon

they should release it on all and then do updates to give extra content but leave it off on the Xbox just to say “F*** You Microsoft”. lol

  • Hikingguy

I am excited about getting this game. I’ve already played the MegaDrive/Genesis version but with all the added content I am very excited for this release. I am still uncertain if I will buy the Wii U version (obviously the most convenient and maybe least expensive to get) or the Dreamcast version (It would just be cool to add a new game to that system). Watermelon is a total class act. The MD/Genesis version they put out was above and beyond anything that would be expected from a small company putting out a game for a long retired system. So it’s too bad that companies bend the knee so quickly to that other company.

    • Hikingguy

Here is a interview with Tulio Gonçalves Watermelon’s president. He gives some very interesting info on the game and its history. It’s just over an hour long.

  • Madmagican

    I shall wait.

    ….-___-

  • ShadowLotus

I actually appreciate this approach of making sure a game releases on
all it’s platforms at the same time. It is fair and gives gamers a
proper choice without having to feel bad that a game released elsewhere
while others have to wait (coughwatchdogscough). So, this developer is
awesome for making sure it’s fans all get to get the game at the same
    time.

  • C4

Don’t release it on MS platforms at all with their fucked up policies.

  • steveb944

    Sounds like Rayman.

  • Cubester_64

The whole extent of Pier Solar is incredible. The original was released on the Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive back in 2010 (WAY after discontinuation), and now they are re-releasing it to HD consoles, and the Dreamcast. It is quite amazing that this is happening LONG after they both went discontinued.
Out of all of the choices, I would get it on the Wii U. I also think that if Nintendo put Genesis titles in the E-Shop (if they haven’t already), I think they should include the original Pier Solar. Now that would be interesting.

    • iamserious

Games are still coming out on the Dreamcast!?!?!?!

      • Cubester_64

Unofficially, but yes. If you watched the list of consoles at the end of the trailer, you can see “Dreamcast” is on that list, with the orange swirl included. Other games have been released in recent years for the Dreamcast also. Mark of Classic Game Room has reviewed several of them.

  • Hyde Gaming

To be honest i don’t see many xbox owners buy this game really.

  • Petri

Correct me if I’m wrong, but they failed the certification before even trying to submit it for Sony and Nintendo?
If that is the case, it is just good that they fix the problems, that might cause the game to be rejected by Nintendo as well.
But if it was just M$ being dicks, then they should just release the game and blame M$ for it.

    • Xeon2

It’s the parity clause bullshit, it could have passed on playstation or Nintendo, but we will never know

  • Elenora Tazia

I don’t know about you guys but I am so attracted to games that has simple graphics like this. To me they are humble but it delivers a great gameplay experience. Like majority next gen games we have today, they are focusing too much on realistic graphic. It bores me really quick.

  • iamserious

What is HD about this game!?! I mean don’t get me wrong I love these type of RPGs and they remind me a lot of Chrono Trigger but why is HD in the title of the game?

    • Cubester_64

      Its a re-release of a Genesis game from 2010.
