Miyamoto is working on a new Star Fox game

starfox

In case you missed it at the end of Nintendo’s E3 press briefing, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that he and his team at Nintendo are working on a brand new Star Fox game! It’s been a long time coming, and Nintendo even joked about the series’ dormancy (we haven’t seen a Star Fox game for six years) during their clay animation segments of their digital press briefing.

Unfortunately we have no idea what to expect as not even a trailer or teaser was given, but with Miyamoto’s hand in the pot it’s sure to be something to look forward to. The title won’t be here until 2015, though, so it’ll be a while yet before Nintendo and Miyamoto are ready to share what they’ve been working on all this time. Are you excited?

    Yes.

    • Poopsy

For all those complaining that WiiUDaily has been asleep at the wheel all E3 long, READ THIS ARTICLE AGAIN. See fools, you just have to WAIT a little. It takes TIME to put together quality reporting and analysis. “You forgot about StarFox, you forgot about StarFox.” No they didn’t, you are the one with the problem, for being impatient and expecting information.

      • Zuxs13

It taks 24 hours to put a post up about a Game that was leaked before the show, talked about at the tree house event and in Reggie’s post event talk? All of this missing from this Deeply immersive article…

      • Jon

Every other news site had this information out BEFORE the start of the digital event…… And then the other information from E3 they all had it before and fast than Wii U daily. I am pretty sure Wii U daily is the slowest out of all the information sources this year.

        • peeer
          • Poopsy

            Exactly! Great job defending WiiUDaily!

          • peeer

I’m not defending WiiUDaily, I just give props where it belongs.

        • jjbredesen

I even tipped the leak 1 hour after it was in the actual magazine, and i have tipped about 10 other articles that have ended up being posted almost a week after me tipping it….. think there tip mail is broken…

          • Poopsy

Your tips were ignored 10 times? And you persevere? You may have qualms with me, but I hold you in high regard for your attempted contributions. Thank you.

      • bistricky

Why the F’ are you replying to my post Poopsy?? I never compained …..
I never thought of this topic until now that you brought it up. Guess what Poopsy, everyone and I mean everyone has a right to complain or compliment about anything they want on Wii U Daily.
….. if the viewers (those who click on to make this website money) have said that they want more info about StarFox or anything else … they have the right to and should ….. On the flipside, calling the viewers and fans of Wii U Daily “FOOLS” for saying that they want better coverage is so sad. The viewers are what makes this website and all viable websites …. It is the viewers who have the voice …. it is not for the website to tell the viewers to shut up (nor anyone else to speak for the website). Cheers :D

        • Ducked

He commented on it because your post was on the top of the comment section and he wanted his stupid opinion to be shown for everyone here to see. I have a feeling he’s about 11 years old so I wouldn’t waste my time with him.

          • Poopsy

Stupid? To defend the greatest Nintendo news source since Nintendo Power… or even Nintendo News??? You sir, are a traitor, like all the rest.

          • jjbredesen

Upvotes your own post, and you are acting like a blind WiiUdaily fanboy, so you just lost my respect. Good day sir, and good luck in life ;)

            -jjbredesen

          • peeer

Nintendo Power was a Nintendo’s official magazine managed by Nintendo using Nintendo official sources. Nothing to do with wiiudaily which is not directly connected to Nintendo.

Plus, wiiudaily as the name suggests is not exactely a nintendo site but rather a Wii U focused site and they added a 3DS section later. They also have PS4daily and XboxOnedaily in case you haven’t noticed, probably all running from the same server too. And when next gen starts in 4-5 years or so they will probably have a site dedicated to these new consoles as well. So in fact they are not much different from IGN or gamespot, only difference is they separate their sections into dedicated sites instead.

          • Poopsy

Thank you for the history lesson! It is informative posts like yours that keep the standards high here.

          • clownshoes1982

wait.. we’re on Wiiudaily, not nintendolife.com

        • Poopsy

Bistricky, my sincerest apologies for besmirching your elegantly succinct post of, “Yes.” How dare I, indeed. However, to defend the honor of WiiUDaily, I must resort to such means.

uhh. I posted a starfox article BEFORE the Nintendo digital event even started.

The title just didn’t say “Starfox” because i didn’t want to spoil it

  • simkenno

From the small snipit we saw during the direct if it does even look like that, then I’m so ready for a new starfox !!! I can’t wait :D

  • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

Here you go folks,a new Star Fox game. All of you bellyaching over this better buy it day 1,because if you don’t Nintendo won’t make another one for years

    • Mayoo

I will if it’s good. I don’t want “on foot” crap. I want SNES and N64 style.

      • C4

        “N64 Style”

        :P

      • Zuxs13

It’s supposed to have ground based vehicle missions along with aerials missions. Its been in the making for 6 years and probably wont be out till 2015-2016. All from tree house event yesterday.

      • Andrew Gonzalez

I wouldn’t mind if half the game was on foot. We’ve seen how bad ass of fighter Fox is in smash and would be cool to see some of that translated in his own game.

      • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

kindly screw off, I want on foot

      • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

NO NO NO. Assault style. Both flying and on foot. Restricting Starfox to JUST on rail vehicle levels is not what we need.

    • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Miyamoto has been working on this for 6 years, so our whining didn’t really seem to effect this much. This whole time we were whining it was secretly in the works. That being said I might buy 2 copies lol.

  • FutureFox

    Expect a 2017 release.

    • Guest

This seems to be the box art for wii U so far… What do you guys think?

      • Ducked

I don’t know why Nintendo didn’t put Mega-Man on the cover.

        • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

He is probably going to be an Unlockable and that would spoiler it to people who haven’t been following the game. No Pac-Man either. Just Nintendo Characters.

          • Ducked

It wouldn’t spoil anything, there’s a high chance he’s on the back of the cover. Also people who haven’t been following it would be more interested in buying it if they saw him on the cover.

    • Juan Benitez

I think this is the cover for WII U so far for Wii U

      • Ducked

I saw this on GameStop, surprisingly it has a E-10 rating..

    • TheHaydenator

It should be ready by next year

      • FutureFox

        You honestly believe that?

    • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Miyamoto said 2015, its been in the works for 6 years. Will have been 7 years when it comes out.

  • Zuxs13

The game has been in the working for 6 years and they talked briefly about it during the Tree house event. No trailer was shown but a clip was, and a small screen shot

    • CaptRodgers

Actually the game has only been in the work for about six months. Had the game been in the making for six years it would look vastly better than what I’ve read it looks like. It’s just been ten years since the last one.

      • Zuxs13

They stated in the Tree house event it was in the making for 6 years.

      • peeer

There is a starfox game on the 3DS that came out about 3 years ago.

        Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Fox_64_3D

      • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Miyamoto already said he has had it in the works for 6 years. Now sit down and be happy.

  • peeer

“(we haven’t seen a Star Fox game for six years)”

    Six years eh?

What about this one? -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Fox_64_3D

    • Stoenk

      yeah well, a remake

      • peeer

Ah ok… I thought it was new because they made it so your face pops in the avatar thing when you play multiplayer local.

  • mojack411

2015 is awfully early for a game that isn’t even being shown in any shape or form.

    • Ducked

That’s what I was thinking. I don’t think this will be out until early 2016 at earliest.

      • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

        Nope.

    • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

It was on the show floor, and people could see it a bit. Miyamoto just didn’t think it was ready to show yet. I bet you a Nintendo Direct later this year will show off a trailer. It’s been in the works for 6 freaking years.

    • Clel

Oh my goodness is that the official cover?

      • Ducked

Yep. It was revealed last night.

      • Santiago

yes. people these days cares about covers! cmon guys! gameplay is what matters

        • Clel

What if I told you, I can care about the cover AND at the same time value gameplay above everything else?

          • Santiago

I was just making a people-these-days joke :p i care about the cover art a lot really, that is, for me, part of what makes games collectible items

      • JeanPaul

lol no that’s not the official cover. People just trollin you.

    • palomino blue

I really don’t need another gamecube controller but I wonder how much the adapter will go for separately. That seems like a pretty good deal.

      • Roaming Pear

I heard its going to be around 20 dollars

        • palomino blue

Ah yes. Thanks. It looks like that bundle will save you about 10 bucks.

Nintendo GameCube controller for Super Smash Bros.: Many Super Smash
Bros. fans grew up playing Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Nintendo
GameCube system, and some will always prefer that system’s controller.
The Nintendo GameCube controller also could be used in Super Smash Bros.
Brawl for Wii. To honor that devoted loyalty to a classic way to play,
Nintendo is introducing an adapter that lets up to four original
Nintendo GameCube or WaveBird controllers work with Wii U. The adapter
will be available at a suggested retail price of $19.99. Nintendo is
also launching a retro Nintendo GameCube controller with Super Smash
Bros. markings at a suggested retail price of $29.99. Additionally,
Nintendo is offering a special bundle that includes Super Smash Bros.
for Wii U, one special Nintendo GameCube controller and one adapter at a
suggested retail price of $99.99. All of these items are scheduled to
launch the same day as Super Smash Bros. for Wii U this holiday season.

          • Ducked

I never knew how popular the GameCube controller was. I thought I was alone.

          • palomino blue

It definitely wasn’t a legend in its own time but There’s nothing better than that big fat A button. And there’s something to be said for the grip on that thing, not to mention the other face buttons only being a slight rock away from the center of the A. Always been my favorite.

          • firedragonsage88

That’s funny. I think I’m alone on preferring the Wii U Pro controller lol. That’s not to say I don’t love the GC controller, as I still play GC games.

          • Ducked

You aren’t alone, I love the pro controller. Many people I know like it as well. It just needed gyro sensor and a headset jack.

  • Will the3rd

    Like.
Miyamoto said, though, that the game will be finished for 2015 (I don’t remember where I read this), so I think it will be release at the soonest as the last quarter of 2015 or easily at 2016. And not for being hater, I mean, 2015 is now surely going to be a great year, just for commenting this line of the article ;)

  • Zuxs13

In case people wanted to know how MK8 did in the last week. here you go.

    http://gematsu.com/2014/06/media-create-sales-6214-6814

  • Aleks

There is a 99% chance he will ruin what i love about Starfox. I know he is mighty Miyamoto, but i’ve read that the gameplay will DEMAND you use both screens. Tv to see ship but the gamepad to aim weapons. Youll have to actively use both screens. I, SO FAR, hate forced gameplay like this, rearranging perfectly good gameplay to try to make the gamepad idea work. Just leave it alone and keep maps or inventory OPTIONALLY on the gamepad. Im really afraid they will give me Starfox like i wanted, but i just wont b interested in playing it. Fingers crossed he knows better.

    • C4

My prediction it will be solid but also “safe”.

No motion and Pro Controller support would be welcome, also improves Off-TV play lying down on the couch…

    • majora :D

Bud, the only thing that Shigeru Miyamoto definitively can’t fuck up with it’s gameplay. Every single one of his games is focused on ideas you can have great fun while playing, rather than story, graphics and such. So, this one will be a fun but weird reboot at worst, or a groundbreaking innovative, yet familiar game of SF at best

      • Aleks

I see what your saying, but i challenge you to watch the PAINFUL giant robot preview he showed. I’d rather eat staples than play that. Starfox was such a favorite of mine and i know he has more wild successes than failures, but i really hope Starfox is not an annoying to play flop.

Personally, i like the gamepad, but i have zero interest in looking up and down and up and down and pointing it all over the place. Just give me a gorgeous, squad based, online multiplayer, space shooter with HD bada** geometric levels that i can play on my one giant screen.

Stop force feeding this Gamepad, assymetric, differentiating play. Make it OPTIONAL please. There is NOTHING wrong with using just one big screen

        • majora :D

Well, I understand your opinions, and personally I’d love that kind of Star Fox too, but I’m sure that this game will rock anyway. No fanboying intended, but I’m sure Miyamoto would not release a game if he wasn’t sure it’s a challenging and fun experience. After all, he’s been dominating this business since 1981

        • Rinslowe

On one note I agree somewhat. I’m still trying to figure out what is “Giant Robot”. It didn’t look too special as a spectator. But it’s only one game…
Maybe Japan will go nuts for it? They can’t get enough of their giant robots.

        • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

I thought the giant robot game looked fun. Design a robot and control it in a sumo battle where balance and physics are important. What’s not to love?

        • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Giant Robot is VERY VERY early in development. Unlike Starfox. Project Giant Robot at E3 was a small demo to show the direction its going. I doubt its been in the works more then a year. It’s a neat idea, but wait till you see the final product. Iwata did say games that were either nearly done or early in the works would be shown at E3. And hey, at least it’s no Wii Music 2.

    • Darkness

I completely agree! Nintendo used to get me excited but lately they have mostly been disappointing. They ruined Mario Kart 8 with no mini map on the TV and your forced to use the stupid gamepad to see a map. We get it Nintendo, the Wii U is different by having a gamepad but don’t force us to have to use 2 controllers just to play a game properly. Give us the option to customize our gaming experience instead of making us use 2 controllers (gamepad + wiimote).

Nintendo also ruined battle mode with those ridiculous huge race tracks instead of battle arenas.

      • Rinslowe

Lol. MK8 ruined. Riiight. Sorry. I know that’s probably not your literal meaning. I’m not going all crusader on you either. Just the game is insanely good. Insanely good…. Let me say it one more time… Insanely good.
Of course it’ll never meet everybody’s expectations equally. But almost.

        • Darkness

I will agree with you that the racing mode is good except the balance of items. Speaking of items they could have been more creative and made even more new items, especially the useless coin item.

Imagine if they changed the racing mode and turned it into more of a battle style. Battle mode is a huge part of the game and shouldn’t be thrown together so quickly by recycling 8 race tracks and removing old modes in battle. Nintendo couldn’t even provide new race tracks, they just slapped on some balloons and called it battle mode.

          • Rinslowe

Yeah. I’m happy with it. Mostly. I do think the items cycle to favour the back end more. It’s almost a safe bet to hang back for a third of the race just to ensure the right item for the last stretch. But that’s not the kind of strategy I like to play. Apart from that I’m not so fussed about the differences in battle mode, honestly. I’m fine with the way it is now.
And yeah, mostly it’s just pretty insanely good.
            :)

      • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Agree with Battle Mode, disagree with the other jibber jabber.

    • Rinslowe

Sheesh. Have a little faith lol. At least until you actually see something… o_O
I’m not saying all hail Miyamoto…
      All hail Miyamoto
But dude, he’s got a pretty big list of games to back up his deliverance level of + 9000. Some only released recently, Ya know?

    • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

Kid icarus uprising was originally going to be a starfox game. The on rail flying sections of that game already show how aiming independently of movement and touch screen controls can offer great gameplay.

      • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

        I don’t believe that.

        • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

You don’t believe it was originally planned to be a star fox game or you don’t believe it showed good use of touch screen controls?

          • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

I don’t believe it was originally a Starfox game.

          • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

Well Sakurai said in an interview that it was originally intended to be starfox but he didn’t think the starfox ip was suited to what he wanted to do so he changed it. I’m sure you’d easily find the interview if you googled it.

          • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Maybe they considered it before it actually got started in development, but I doubt they changed it in mid development from Starfox to Kid Icarus.

          • http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008SRISGU#reader_B008SRISGU Adam Howell

I doubt they change mid development. But certainly early concepts and I quite possibly tech demos (Though we’ll probably never know).

You also have to note the similarity between starfox u and kid Icarus uprisings controls in that they allow you to aim independently of your ships/characters position. That worked brilliantly in Kid Icarus.

          • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

I agree that I had indeed thought of Starfox with the aerial combat parts.

    • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Disagree, the Gamepad showing your view from inside the cockpit has been my idea for years lol. Ever since the Wii U was 1st revealed, I was like, “You guys don’t know what to do with Starfox? TV screen shows your Arwing, Gamepad shows inside the cockpit and your health, shield, laser types and stuff on the Gamepad in the cockpit. I like it.

  • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

    I already wrote a starfox article…

  • TheBoldman67

    A new F-Zero hasn’t been made in eleven years… ;(

  • Rinslowe

Yeah, this is exciting. It’s sounding pretty interesting with the ability to pan and track enemies with the gamepad while conventional flying on the screen. Caught that from IGN yesterday during their post briefing event. One of the fellows apparently played an early build. Is it not on the floor as well?
But yeah. Nintendo acknowledges it needs to exist and that’s cool stuff.

  • FutureFox

It’s being produced by Platinum Games. It WILL be *reaching in early 90s trope bag* …. DOPE!

  • devmiles

i hope the original gameplay will stay intact… like starfox 64 (3ds if you will) but then wii-u quality. it’s true it’s 2014 so we need something new, fresh elements, but i hope they did the right thing and the game will have success. too bad they did not announce any metroid, that would have been the cherry on the cake… i just missed that.. and most of the games are 2015 so far far faaaaaar away sadly

  • GoGlo 13

    its about time
