Super Mario Sunshine producer expresses interest in making a sequel

super-mario-sunshine

With the release of Wind Waker HD, many people have been hoping that Super Mario Sunshine would be the focus of Nintendo’s next GameCube effort, giving it the same polish and HD graphics that Wind Waker HD received. Some people are hoping for a full-blown sequel, which is something producer Takashi Tezuka says he’d like to do. When asked by NZGamer if there was any hope for an HD remake of Majora’s Mask or Super Mario Sunshine, Tezuka replied:

This is my personal opinion, let’s start with that. I mean, of course I wish we could. I personally would like to enjoy those again but I don’t have any information.

Currently Tezuka is heading up the Mario Maker and Yoshi’s Wooly World projects at Nintendo so if anything were in development that he were to be a part of, it would be after these projects are finished.

Would you rather have an HD remake of Super Mario Sunshine, or a sequel?

Eh, no thanks. It was a decent game in it’s own right I suppose, but pretty weak as far as the Mario series goes.

    • RockieOllie

      Agreed

  • TrueWiiMaster

I’d love either a new Mario Sunshine or a Sunshine HD remake. It’s definitely among my favorite Gamecube games, and my favorite Mario games.

  • Ultrasyd

A full-blown sequel or a full-bloomed HD remake … I’d prefer the sequel : ) Or even better : a 3D mario that is not Galaxy or Sunshine

    • Gameonfool

I want a new proper 3D mario for wii u with the camera behind mario, exploring big lush worlds to find those golden stars.

    • MerryBlind .

lol I see what you did there…

  • Gideon

I’d like a (cheap) hd remake, if it’s going to be a sequel, i’d rather have mario galaxy 3 with stunning space-graphics!!

    • Gideon

      And, ofcourse, beautiful orchestrated music!

    • Fred

Yes quick cheap HD remake charge me $35-$40 and I’m buying get it to me by Halloween.

  • Sdudyoy

Mario sunshine is my favorite Mario game, but I don’t want sequels to 3D Mario games, I want new ones.

    • Fred

I want Nintendo’s studios to make new games, but with Wind Waker they hired a different studio to do it. I’d like them to hire someone else to do the HD remake and for Nintendo to make new games.

      • Sdudyoy

I wouldn’t mind a remake, but the article is talking about a sequel, I would rather have a new Mario 3D game than a sequel.

        • Fred

The last sentence asks if we’d rather have a remake or a sequel

    • MerryBlind .

      Agreed.

  • https://twitter.com/Onyzora Ony

    YES.

  • Jeffrey Debris

I’d prefer a 3D Mario RPG, somewhere along the lines of Mario RPG from the SNES…. that would be nice.

But given a choice between remake and sequel, it would definitely be a sequel I’d choose. :)

  • Des

“Would you rather have an HD remake of Super Mario Sunshine, or a sequel?” Yes please. :)

    • Docforexit347

      Sequel!!!

  • Francis Jairam

Well if they are making sequel it has to take place at a different island and have a different final boss. Cause Bowser has been the final boss in too many Mario games.

  • Angry Cucoo

I think I’m the only person that liked Sunshine way more than galaxy. I liked the more open feel it felt like 64 which is my favourite.

    • palomino blue

I’m there with you on Sunshine. I thought it was kind of odd that they really abandoned the 64/sunshine feel after that. Galaxy had too much mini platform planet hopping for me. And 3D World is more of a standard Mario platformer that you can go front to back as well as side to side. An HD remake or Sequel to Sunshine would be awesome. If they do make a sequel, it should come with a free download of the original on Virtual Console :)

    • Fred

You’re not the only one. I liked Sunshine more than Galaxy

  • Curtis Hofer

    HD Remake

  • Saul Rivera

How about a remake to refresh our memories and than a surprise sequel…hell..they could do a Bayonetta and include both

    • Fred

They could do the HD remake by Christmas. It only took 6 months to do Wind Waker HD. I’d love to see the sequel, but a lot of people are wanting more games now so give them Sunshine now.

  • Jess Tapley

    Both!

  • Matthew Sizemore

I’d love to see a super mario sunshine HD remake in a package similar to what they done with the zelda windwaker hd with the ganondorf figure except with Mario with his Fludd on back and sell it at $69.99 with some added gamepad features. Then of course later on I’d like to see a sequel. Super Mario sunshine was a great open world mario game and the fludd just made the gameplay so much more diverse and interested than other 3d mario titles before or since. The water was absolutely gorgeous and beautiful graphics but I can only imagine how awesome a Wii U edition would be especially if they made it using the engine of Mario 3d world, another favorite of mine.

    • MetroidZero

      I’ll buy at $49.99

    • Fred

They did Wind Waker HD in 6 months. We could have Sunshine HD by Christmas!!! Then for on Sunshine 2 for 2016/17

      • [000]

Considering that it was the first ever GameCube game remade on Wii U, Super Mario Sunshine could definitely be remade in far less than 6 months. I’m sure there are a lot of processes that can be completely recycled and even improved upon if they decide to do it.

        • Fred

that combined with the fact that they made changes/improvements to Wind Waker. I’m not asking for that I just want the game. If they released it by Thanksgiving it would be a good thing for us and NIntendo

  • Gideon

If it’s going to be an hd remake, please don’t make it $60 again… It’s just a remake, and I don’t have the money fo dat!

    • Fred

If they just do a cheap HD upscale and not all the added features they did with Wind Waker they could get it to us for less money and maybe by Halloween.

  • jjbredesen

Make it! I think that Sunshine is really underrated, and is a fantastic game that a sequel or remake would benefit a lot from Wii U, as its a game that relies a lot on the sun, shaders and water, and that is perhaps the things Nintendo has shown they can do the best this gen!

  • ZeldaFan83

I’d rather have an HD remake. That was an awesome game and it would only take 6 months to port it over.

  • Allvalve

A Galaxy 1,2 and Sunshine package all remastered in HD would be nice.
Perhaps as a bundle with Mario Kart for Christmas, with a Gamecube themed Wii U.

  • Rogelio

    BRING BACK F.L.O.O.D!!!

    • Arthur Jarret

      F.L.U.D.D.*

      • Rogelio

Aww dammit, i even looked it up how to spell it ._.

  • Nintendo Of North Korea

Sunshine was my favourite in the series and I’d love an HD remake. A sequel would be amazing as well as long as the kept the hub, open world levels, great FLUDD focus and added new and unique characters. It’s alot to ask but a guy can dream right?

  • LevenThumps

I know the reception for Sunshine is mixed, but I still enjoy that game today. I don’t know if we’ll get an HD remake or sequel to the game, but I would choose a sequel.

  • rulqua

    Holy shit, dude, yes.

  • RyuNoHadouken

no! let it stay deep in the vaults!

  • Justin Carlson

Didn’t the FLUDD use the analog triggers on the controller to adjust water pressure? I’m not sure if that was critical to the game or not, but it’s something to consider since all of the current controllers do not have analog triggers.
Maybe they would use the Wii remote with pointer to aim the FLUDD. That might be nice.

    • MerryBlind .

Surely the GameCube adapter for Wii U will work with GameCube games, don’t you think?
Though a Wiimote+Nunchuk control scheme could be very fun too!

  • smbmaster99

I’d much rather have a Super Mario 64 remake. Not that SS was bad I just don’t like it as much as everyone apparently does :P But it sure was a fun game to use Action Replay on lol

  • Weirdass Javii XD

I Prefer both the HD Version and Sequel, but something better Luigi’s Mansion HD or a 3rd part to Luigi’s Mansion on the Wii U Plz Nintendo Plz Make these four games Nintendo everyone will love it so plz make it if you can :)

  • Ducked

I’m not one for another HD remake. I bought a new console to play new games. I wouldn’t mind a sequel, of course I also wouldn’t mind a Super Mario Galaxy 3. Super Mario isn’t exactly on my charts right now. I’m looking forward to the new Zelda, another Metroid, Star Fox, Animal Crossing, Kirby, Yoshi, and Xenoblade X.

  • GoGlo 13

    1st one was wack

  • anthony optimo

Yes, I’ll have that one, and I’ll take another.

    Please understand.

  • Weirdass Javii XD

Why Make a HD version when Nintendo Might a Virtual Console on Gamecube?

  • andy cadle

So the question your asking us is given the choice, would we have a remake of a game already freely available to buy, or a brand new Mario game?? Do you really underestimate our intelligence??!?!

  • Yousif Alromaithi

    A remake hopefully.

  • Squid

Last time they had an interest Captain Toad was announced.

  • Arthur Jarret

Sequel – I prefer if they spend their effort on new games instead of remaking stuff I already played (and which actually aged pretty well)

    • Rinslowe

New stuff first. Then maybe remakes and sequels….

  • Dark Link

Me personally, I would like them to do a HD remake as I have not played Super Mario Sunshine

  • Oobz

    Dear Nintendo,
Please bring us all a Super Mario HD 2 disc-collection consisting of: Super Mario 64 HD, Super Mario Sunshine HD, Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 HD, and Super Mario 3D world for $120. I understand this is possible and would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • steveb944

Sequel! Mario Bros, World, Galaxy, and even the new ones have a sequel in some shape or form. Sunshine doesn’t need a remake as it’s all pretty standard visuals, it’s all about the awesome gameplay and being able to continue that story.

One of two reasons I still have a Wii, to play Mario Sunshine. GC Paper Mario is the other.

  • Matthew Lambert

    both!!!

  • Moreck

    Meh.

  • http://www.roscoeland.blogspot.com Ross

Mario Sunshine on GC was really hard. I needed to use an Action Replay (am I allowed to say that?) to finish it. Would it be any easier to play using the Wii U gamepad?

  • Brandon Burce

I would like to have it as a remake since people who didn’t have a chance to experience gamecube games would finally get to play them in a new generation way. Sorry if you think this comment sounded a little selfish because I did not have a gamecube back then.

  • Dominicruz

its too soon for remakes next gen maybe don’t mention WWHD please

  • David John Gifford

Id love to see all 3d marios made in hd

  • john

Super Mario Sunshine 2 for Wii U! And do what they’re doing with bayonetta 2; include an HD version of the first game with it. Do it! Do it NOW!!!!!!

  • Ernie Sanguyo

I want both remake HD and sequel of super mario sunshine. That would be awesome.

  • Ryan House

i found super Mario sunshine to be too hard. I found that some of the levels to get shines were too much for the gamecubes hardware. I’d rather a sequel to Super Mario 64 or Super Mario RPG legend of the seven stars

  • http://www.Idontownawebsite.com/ AlphaGovnah Skiddo

sunshine is probably one of my favorite games of all time and i wouldn’t mind a HD remake or a Sequel

  • MysteryT

They should do the same as with Bayonetta 2.
Make a Super Mario Sunshine 2, and bundle it with a HD remake of Super Mario Sunshine

  • Destructonator101

GIVE ME A FUCKING SEQUEL NOW! NOT TOMORROW, NOT THIS AFTERNOON, NOW!
