Rumor: Diddy Kong Racing 2 in development for Wii U

diddy-kong-racing-wii-u

According to rumors, a sequel to the popular N64 racer Diddy Kong Racing is in development. And according to rumors, none other than Nintendo’s own Retro Studios are making the game, in collaboration with Monster Games.

Apparently, Nintendo planned to showcase the game at E3 last month, but decided against it so as to no interfere with potential Mario Kart 8 sales. The new information comes from a source claiming to have “inside information” about the development of Diddy Kong Racing 2.

According to the source, Nintendo has been working on a Diddy Kong Racing sequel since 2006, but the Wii version of the game was cancelled after poor sales of Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, and because the Diddy Kong Racing DS version didn’t sell well either.

After the success of Donkey Kong Country Returns, Nintendo started again to work on Diddy Kong Racing 2, this time for the Wii U. The concept of the game is said to be a bunch of Nintendo’s smaller characters “fighting to be Nintendo’s big star”.

And finally, the reason Diddy Kong was taken out of Mario Kart 8 was because he was getting his own racing game: Diddy Kong Racing 2, which will reportedly be announced in 2015.

We’ll have to wait and see on this one. Take this information with grain of salt, as it comes from a previously unproven source.

  • 16BITDAVE

Ooooo! Can’t wait for this one! Hopefully it’s a little less childish than Diddy Kong Racing. I do still love it despite the laughter of children when the game first comes on

    • Merry_Blind

Hey. No. I liked the children laughs in the beginning… as creepy as it sounds…

      • 16BITDAVE

        that is creepy

        • Merry_Blind

          Yeahh…. sorry ’bout that…

          • 16BITDAVE

            It’s ok :)

          • 16BITDAVE

            it’s ok :)

  • Kobe

Just because hes getting his own game doesnt mean he shouldnt be in MK. In my opinion, he should be in BECAUSE he has a racing game.

    • Merry_Blind

Exactly what I’ve been thinking ever since I know Diddy’s not in MK8.

  • Ducked

I doubt it’s true. Although if it was, it be pretty stupid. We don’t need another kart game right now.

    • Michael Hancock

Wrong. Diddy Kong is the king of kart racers. Where do you think Mario Kart 8 got the idea of collecting coins to slightly increase speed?

      • Ducked

I forget opinions are forbidden on the internet.

        • Daniel Gonzalez

          God forbid, eh?

          • Ducked

            Yep

          • Keith

Well.obviously you can. Takes one to know one ;-)

        • Keith

An opinion is saying that “you don’t think” or starts off with “I believe”….but making a statement for us that “we don’t need another kart or racing game right now” is not an opinion. That’s you (a PS4 groupie) stating what you consider a fact on behalf of the loyal Nintendo fan’s. Dumb quack!!

          • Ducked

You seem to be a big fan of my comments.

      • Gideon

Mario kart had the coins in their first game Super Mario Kart but then removed the coin system (and later added it again). So mario kart had the coins before diddy kong racing so they didn’t get the idea from diddy kong racing…

        • Michael Hancock

I never knew the coins in Super Mario Kart increased speed. You’re right.

        • darkcreap

Um, thanks. I always wondered what was the point of coins. I thought the only thing they were useful for was to prevent from spinning when you hit other players, as it happens when you are out of coins. I didn’t have the slightest idea that they made you go faster.

      • Jonathan Stoffer

Ummm… it got the idea from the origenal Mario Kart Super Curcit for the SNES… The same place diddy kong racing got the idea from…

        • Michael Hancock

          Super Circuit?

          • Jonathan Stoffer

Ya look it up. That game used the coin thing first.

          • Michael Hancock

Super Circuit is a GBA game, realeased in 2001.

          • Harrison Hall

            He meant Super Mario Kart.

      • Andrew St. Clair

They got it from Super Mario Kart for the Super Nintendo. It was the original Mario Kart. It came out long before Diddy Kong Racing, and I believe that it came out before Diddy Kong existed.

      • Tecpedz94

Its a similar game its like taking super Mario bros U and super Luigi u. Same concept different levels/theme different characters thats it its still a racing game you get bananas instead of coins balloons that give u weapons and u gotta make it first to win. Its not a bad game its super fun but i dont see the point in it…

      • Keith

        Agreed!!

    • Javy G

Its speculated to release around 2016. Plenty of time between the two. But personally I think it should be DLC on a another gamemode if it implements anything new or new stages etc. to Mario Kart 8. I believe I read somewhere that Retro did have a little a hand in developing MK8.

      • Ducked

        Now a DLC would work.

        • Keith

Sorry, I believe no “Ducking” PS4 groupies should be allowed to comment on Nintendo ;-)

    • matthew garcia

Nintendo seems to be making these small games cuz there just quick to make cuz of lack of third party. I want more games on a epic scale but I understand those games would take to long to make and Nintendo just doesn’t have that kind of time. They need more games now

      • Squid

To be honest, Nintendo just needs to pick up sales, so the third party companies know that putting their games on Wii u would make them money. And trust me, the only “quick games” are the party games, spin-offs of Mario (not Mario kart though) , and New. Super Mario.

        • matthew garcia

What I mean by quick games are games that don’t have a epic scale with big storylines. They need more games like that. They make quick games like sidescrollers, pikmen, and ports of other games. I don’t want Mario 3dworld I want a Mario galaxy 3. That will sale more consoles. Not the small time games they been having. The games are fun but it’s not what everyone is looking for

          • Squid

Prepare to be surprised, Mario Galaxy and it’s sequel are not the biggest selling games in the Mario series, in fact, the side scrollers are. So it makes sense Nintendo does this, they need money before they can keep releasing games that won’t sell as much,

          • matthew garcia

Not sure about that Wii u console sales are to horrible for your point to be correct. Those small games are what belong on mobile and and handhelds not a console. Those types of games do way better portable. They need more games on the scale of Zelda and X.

    • RockieOllie

DKR and MK are two different kart games. I actually would drop MK* in a heart beat if DKR2 came out

      • Hipster Victor

That’s not the point, The Wii U need more Mature based titles. DKR is good in all but right know it’s not what it needs

        • Squid

Nonono… They need GOOD games. Yes, maybe a mature game or two can help drive the so called “hardcore” gamers to wii u, but other than that the Wii U just needs to keep pumping out good games.

    • 504HotBoy

I totally agree. Although I loved the original Diddy Kong Racing on N64. We don’t really need another cart racer this soon. Also they said it was rumored that Retro Studios was working on it. Which I would prefer Retro to be working on something else completely new, with their talent. Maybe a action/rpg, sci-fi shooter, or action/adventure. I wouldn’t mind another Metroid though.

      • Ducked

They should definitely make a new Metroid, 2D and 3D.

        • 504HotBoy

          Yeah that would be awesome!

        • Keith

Why?? It’s not like you’d actually play it cause that would require you actually purchings a Wii U or 3DS & dropping your other PS4 groupie friends.

        • Squid

While I do agree, I do want them to maybe reboot a old franchise. Startropics maybe?

    • Keith

Maybe you don’t need one, but others sure as hell do. Thanxs for speaking on behalf of all of us Nintendo gamers btw. Didn’t really realize that you obviously believe that you was the Spokesman (or most likely, a spokeswoman) for all of us. Pathetic quack. Stop trolling on our Wii U daily forum’s ya PS4 groupie!!

  • Des

    Diddy King Racing?

    • Michael Hancock

      You better ask somebody.

  • Michael Hancock

I’ve been waiting for a sequel since the 90’s. A better game than Mario Kart, in every aspect.

    • Andrew St. Clair

I played Diddy Kong Racing back on the N64. It sucked.

      • Michael Hancock

Lets compare Mario Kart 64 to DKR. DKR was
much longer, more beautiful, possessed more unlockables, tighter controls, an
Adventure mode where you raced dinosaurs, more items to collect, better
music, more polished and better graphics, better courses, more courses,
more replay value, more characters, more cheats, more vehicles, more innovative
multiplayer, Icicle Pyramid, and has no blue shells. Mario Kart 64, on the other hand, is a good game.

        • The-Master

If they are to release it.
It won’t have the same character cast.
No Conker, No Banjo, no other characters.
I would love to see Donkey Kong, Dixie, Funky, Candy, etc.
More new characters will become iconic.

        • Andrew St. Clair

I like the last sentence there. It says exactly what I said. Mario Kart is a good game. Diddy Kong Racing is not.

Let’s compare Diddy Kong Racing to Mario Kart 64. Diddy Kong Racing was too long, hideous to look at, played like garbage, had a redundant and boring adventure mode (how about you do the same tracks again… now YOU HAVE TO COLLECT COINS!!!), a completely forgettable selection of music, no replay value, almost no play value in general, lazy track design, bosses that take very little to beat, terrible flight physics, a hovercraft that handled like garbage, virtually no joy is had when playing it with friends.

As you’ve said though, Mario Kart 64 is actually a good game. Diddy Kong Racing is not. Diddy Kong Racing is a piece of garbage that’s only held up by nostalgia. Mario Kart 64 is not because, as you’ve already said, Mario Kart 64 is actually good.

          • Michael Hancock

I have nothing in common with you.

          • Andrew St. Clair

We have stuff in common. We agree that Diddy Kong Racing was a bloated game, filled with all kinds of stuff that ultimately resulted in a game that was not good. Meanwhile, Mario Kart 64 is good.

          • Michael Hancock

What I meant was, Diddy Kong Racing is a phenomenal game. Mario Kart 64, in comparison, is merely a “good” or mediocre game.

          • Andrew St. Clair

Nope. Look at your comment. You never said that it was phenomenal. All you said was that it had a whole lot of stuff in it, and the Star Wars prequels are proof that having a whole lot of stuff doesn’t make something good. On the other hand, you called Mario Kart a good game. So, all you said was, “Diddy Kong Racing is a bloated game while Mario Kart is actually a good game.”

        • Daniel

Mario Kart 64 ran at a much faster frame rate and had more of a sense of speed. Diddy Kong racing’s tracks were, in most cases, too short. The hovercraft didn’t handle very well and battle mode wasn’t as fun. DKR did have more colourful graphics and a more robust campaign mode. I love them both, but when it comes to raw speed and multiplayer mayhem with no choppy frame rate, then Mario Kart wins hands down for me. As a single player experience, DKR takes it.

I would much rather they re-release a HD remake of the original with online multi-player than a sequel.

        • http://facebook.com/validgraphics val berger

You liked it more, others might not. What’s the big deal? I prefered MK64 too, so what? Some things can’t be explained with reason but with guts.
And More, More, More don’t necessarily make a better product. At least not for everyone.

        • Moreck

DKR was sluggish and featured less precise controls than MK64. The characters were also not as interesting as Nintendo’s IP, imo.

          • Michael Hancock

Banjo has more personality in his left paw…

        • Rich Garriques

really i thought diddy kong tracks were always shorter , but no i think diddy racing is in the same league as mario kart 64 because mario kart had tighter controls also mario kart has different speeds as diddy racing does not , in fact mario kart 64 has great power ups sure there is no adventure mode but that does not mean diddy kong racing is better. its a matter of opinion

      • Merry_Blind

Wut. Fuck that. Diddy Kong Racing was amazing.

        • Michael Hancock

          I was THERE, man.

          • Merry_Blind

            Me too, man. Me too…

      • Fred

Maybe you didn’t like it, but I loved it. If I had known this was going to happen I might not have bought Mario kart 8. It’s hard to justify 3kart racers on one system (I bought sonic racing at launch) but diddy Kong racing is my all time favorite kart racer

        • Andrew St. Clair

You’re allowed to like it. People are allowed to like bad things.

          • http://multiversefeeling.blogspot.com/ wwwarea

And people have the right to argue that your opinion of claiming “Diddy Kong Racing” to be “bad” is wrong.

Honestly, the person’s reasons for being a good game is something many people would agree on I think.

    • Merry_Blind

Me too. Loved that game, always preferred it to Mario Kart, thought Mario Kart 8 is very good lol! Always loved the Adventure Mode in DKR.

      • Michael Hancock

I loved, loved, loved Adventure mode. You’re right about MK8, it’s the only game to come close to Diddy Kong Racing’s excellence.

    • Squid

That could be argued. I doubt a Diddy Kong Racing could too Mario Kart 8 at this time. Especially now you can glide in the air, race in the water, and defy gravity. The cool thing about DKR is that there are bosses and a hub world, but that’s about it.

    • Volshebink

Yes!!! And lets not forget that soundtrack! It was one of David Wise’s best pieces of work! Great music, I hope he does the music for the sequel as well. Nobody can seriously argue that MK64 had a better soundtrack than DKR…

  • Daniel Gonzalez

Don’t you mean, P. Diddy Racing?

    • Marioman21

      Nice.

    • Michael Hancock

      No.

  • Noah Linderer

  • majora :D

I’m calling bull**** on this one. it makes no sense to release it one year after Mario Kart 8, plus the source is shady.

    • Rich Garriques

no no.. just no , this isnt bs its real.

      • Keith

And you know this isn’t bs because?? You have solid proof?? Or do you just believe everythig the Internet tells you??

  • ZeldaFan83

That doesn’t even sound smart. Why make another racing game after Mario kart just released. I doubt this is true for the same reason that they haven’t made a F-Zero game in forever…no point since Mario Kart is so popular and their main racing game. They would put Retro Studios on more important projects.

    • abe

They only make 1 Mario kart per generation and MK7&8 hit their systems real early instead of their mid cycle launch. I Doubt it’ll come out before 2016 but is suspect there will be a diddy Kong on one machine and an f-zero on the other

      • ZeldaFan83

Highly doubtful. Miyamoto has already stated that another f-zero won’t be made until something new is brought to the series and MK8 has anti gravity. I don’t see them releasing a Diddy Kong since its basically Mario kart with different characters…no point.

        • abe

With several fundamentally different vehicles, an adventure mode and boss fights.

Its true miyamoto said that but he also said he’ll hear out fans regarding returning franchises… Whether he follows though with doing anything is a different story

        • Purple

what crap! they don’t bring anything new to Mario games and those are always being made!!!! mario golf, mario tennis, mario kart, its all the same pretty much.

    • Purple

they sure would put retro studios on more important projects. like another donkey kong side scroller or helping develop a level in mario kart.

      • ZeldaFan83

True. Maybe another Metroid game or possibly Star Fox. Actually it was Retro Studios choice to make another DKC game. Nintendo gave them the opportunity to work on any new project and they chose DKC. Bringing in other developers to help develop levels or parts of a game are common to make sure a game releases on time and doesn’t get delayed.

  • bistricky

If this is the “unannounced project title”, I would be very surprised. It doesn’t fit Retro Studio’s history ….

History says a new Metroid (since that is what they are masters of since 2002).

Could also be “Raven Blade” to bring a RPG to the Wii U.

    Cheers :D

    • bistricky

{rumor}: Raven Blade is in development for the Wii U.

      • 504HotBoy

I been wanting them to do this for the longest. Ever since in 2012, when I read the rumor of them resurrecting Raven Blade for Wii U. The same rumor that mention Fatal Frame, Devil’s Third, & Darkstalkers coming to Wii U.

        • bistricky

It has been also my dream to see Raven Blade (finally) come to life …….as you said, the same rumor in 2012 included some games which we now know is coming to the Wii U.

Raven Blade was the lone cancelled game by Retro Studios to make it (in the past) to E3.

From statements made in 2014 by Retro, we pretty much knew it wasn’t going to be a new Metroid …. so, for me, I hoped that the 2012 rumor of Raven Blade would become true.

John Kinsley rumor article likely squashes that …. but one can always hope that a big surprise like Raven Blade is the reason for such secrecy.

          • 504HotBoy

Yeah I know it was originally suppsose to come to Gamecube. There have been several games that got canceled, that I wish they would resurrect them.

          • bistricky

I agree with your side note …..
and better yet, if this ‘source’ is honest and Retro is working on two games, then maybe Diddy Kong Racing 2 and Raven Blade?

And if the ‘source’ is full of it …. we all might one day learn that the actual game that Retro has been working on, is Metroid U, after all.

All options are good with me.
            Cheers :D

    • Squid

Retro worked on a bit of Mario Kart 7. It’s likely they did this while making Tropical Freeze.

    • http://facebook.com/validgraphics val berger

I’d be very surprised to see Raven Blade as it seems that with the cancellation of Raven Blade and other similar projects, Retro really got trimmed to focus only on games that would fit to their name – Retro-franchises. Ever since tall they were able to do were games like metroid, Mario Kart and Donkey Kong and I really don’t believe they are allowed to use their potential for anything else than Nintendo’s corefranchises.

I guess Retro is, what Nintendo wanted to have with Rareware as they were Nintendo’s chance to get a different take on the Donkey Kong series but somehow insisted on creating their own games which ended up in that conflict about Twelve Tales / Bad Fur Day. After Rare went to MS, Nintendo seemed to have assembled some quite great minds of the industry to form what they wanted to see in Rare and I don’t see a sign of change here, especially as Retro keeps doing amazing jobs. I’m not even sure it would really be good for Nintendo as a company and their whole software ecosystem, as they are really totally depending on their core-franchises and allowing Retro to create their own stuff could tear apart their big picture especially if they could have done a franchise-game instead.
Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love it, especially as the WiiU is their system to try out quite uncommon business models and productions, like pushing Bayonetta 2 out like it would be a 1st party game. No one would really mind a new IP from Retro studio and finally, something fresh could really be the key for WiiU’s success.

    • Phoenix Maybe

I didn’t know this game existed until now, but it sure looks awesome!

  • jreed3842

Lol. I hated Diddy Kong racing as a child (only because I wasn’t good enough to beat the bosses) I remember throwing the game behind my dresser out of anger and tried to sell it for a penny at a garage sale, lol.
I don’t think I’m very excited for this release either.

  • Guest

    ….

  • allvalve

I’d say this is highly unlikely.
If there are to be more karting games on the Wii U it will be a Mariokart Battle Arena edition using the MK8 game engine. It would be a guaranteed seller, be quick to put together, and would explain the lack of arena’s in MK8. I don’t buy Nintendo’s reasons for excluding them from the finished game.
A more likely scenario with Diddy Kong Racing is that proof of concepts have probably been carried out, but instead of becoming a game in itself, elements were taken for MK8, like flying.

  • Shota

comes from a previously unproven source. and the article is gone.

  • Sdudyoy

I’m not actually interested in this game, the first one was an okay game but no where near as good as Mario kart, but I really doubt this game is being made, leaks like these are never true, and I honestly don’t care if this is fake.

  • darkcreap

Um, I never liked Diddy Kong Racing for the N64. I hope not.

    • Kalloran Castalia

If they release it, it won’t even affect you. Just don’t buy it.

  • Guest

I loved Diddy Kong Racing on my N64! I’d be super stoked for this.

  • Moreck

I loved Diddy Kong Racing on my N64! I’d be super stoked for this, though they’ll likely have to alter that borderline-racist genie character.

    • Marioman21

      Good Idea.

    • Daniel

How on earth was the Genie character borderline racist? He’s no more offensive than Mario’s italian accent. Seriously, stop being so god dam sensitive and trying to reaffirm your own moral high ground.

      • Moreck

You’re inferring an awful lot about my character from one simple statement. I’m far from the only person that feels this way about the genie character. Perhaps you should do some research and open your mind before personally attacking people you don’t know.

        • Daniel

Not really. Explain how the Genie is any more racist than Mario and how it is offensive? You are the one who needs to open your mind and stop being a victim of political correctness. Back up your ridiculous theory.

        • CapnCrumbles436

Oh please, no more PC crap get over it. Ppl are waaaay too thin skinned these days. Yes the character was based on Indian stereotypes, thats what made him a character. He was a genie on a carpet with an Indian accent. Cry us all a river. And Banjo Kazooie was based on white southern stereotypes “Guuheeya!” You dont see whites freaking out about it. LIGHTEN UP…WHO CARES?

  • Will.F. Martinez

i liked the game on the N64, but it was a good idea holding off on the information due to mario kart 8 just releasing because at this point i wouldve just ignored it for the fact that i’m still enjoying mk8. might be wrong but i don’t think they can do anything to make it better the mario kart 8. the only thing i look forward too is its story mode.

  • MujuraNoKamen

I’d much rather have redneck jamboree 2 but it’ll do ;)

  • gamingpalooza

    ohhh myy….

that was the first n64 game I ever owned.

  • FilipiCn

That is The game I most played in N64. Good news!

  • Michael Hancock

This makes sense, with the recent success of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Monster games has made nothing but racing games until just the past year. All of a sudden they make Donkey Kong games, and they’ve done this in collaboration with Retro Studios. I am sure Diddy Kong Racing 2 will be titled “Donkey Kong Racing”, to cash in on the recent success of Tropical Freeze. Not to mention the built in fan base of Diddy Kong Racing fans AND Nintendo kart fanatics!

  • 00EpicGamer00

I’ve never played this game, but according to the comments, it’s like a mixed opinion game. Some people like it, and some hate it. Honestly though, the more games for the Wii U the better.

    • Michael Hancock

      Cult classic.

    • brian

I thought it was fun. Like Mario Kart but with airplanes half the time.

    • JCdude

I didn’t like it. That’s just my opinion, though. Semi-difficult to control, had a bad cast. I will give it that it had original tracks, though, and that even Mario Kart 64 was somewhat hard to control at first. I would be on the fence about buying this sequel, if it turns out to be true.

  • TheyCallHimBigAl

There is no way they make another Diddy Kong Racing. The only reason there was the first one is because Nintendo gave Rare complete autonomy in making games. Nintendo has already made Mario Kart 8, and with DLC most likely being made for it they won’t want to cannibalize sales with another 1st party kart racer. I’ll be more than happy to eat my word if it is announced however.

Also, if you feel the need to rip on anyone who dares say Diddy Kong Racing is not the best kart racing game ever made, you seriously need to gain some perspective and/or a life. Enjoy games for what they are, its not a freaking competition.

    • Prizm

If you read the source article, the guy says they are purposely making it different to MK8 with different gameplay elements so as not to just make a clone.

      • TheyCallHimBigAl

That may be, but its still a kart racer which is how the general gaming audience will see it. To me at least the similarities between Mario Kart and Diddy Kong Racing are much closer from a non-technical stand point than, say, NSMBU and DKTF, and It’ll be interesting to see whether Nintendo will want to publish two very similar titles in such a short span.

  • mojack411

Watch this be the one time a rumor is true when I don’t want this one to be true.

    • brian

Why do you care? Just don’t purchase it.

      • mojack411

        I won’t, and I’ll still be disappointed it’s not a new Metroid.

  • Rodger_Ramjet

Well the more racing games the better! WiiU has been lacking in the racing genre and even it’s not proper circuit racing I still really enjoy these types, plus MarioKart is so brilliant and so is DKRTF is not funny. I have no doubt another 720p @ 60fps is on the cards

  • Hipster Victor

ugh…I dont mind DKRACING but….I hope Its not Retro developing it

    • brian

Literally the second sentence in the article:

“And according to rumors, none other than Nintendo’s own Retro Studios are making the game, in collaboration with Monster Games.”

You could at least read the first couple sentences… right?

      • Hipster Victor

Yes i know what the sentence say -_- i read the whole thing. But I meant i hope this rumor is false…well false on retro’s developing it.

        • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Retro is doing Metroid. Its in the stars.

      • Merry_Blind

Your comment jumped to conclusions way too quickly.

  • Scott Duperree

Ah, DKR. In its heydey, if you let yourself acquire a taste for its greatness, it’s racing depth outdid Mario Kart 64. A few years later when Mario Kart: Double Dash came out however, DKR became obsolete and is now pretty unplayable. Good memories with that game though, and a sequel would leave me pretty interested.

  • TULFich

I don´t know if this game actually sucked back then, I just remember having fun with it

  • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Never going to happen, and if it is, it can’t be called Diddy Kong Racing. They would have to call it like Kong Racing, or make Dixie the main and call it Dixie Kong Racing. Rareware owns the IP for Diddy Kong Racing. But Not Diddy lol. So they both own a chunk of the pie.

    • Colin Tosh

Rare only own the characters who aren’t kremlings and kongs.

They said so themselves on the scribes section. Diddy Kong is a Nintendo character and a Nintendo IP. NINTENDO own it. Where do people get the idea Rare come into it? Nintendo can do what they want with Diddy.

Some people really need to learn the legal side of these games. Donkey Kong 64 and Diddy Kong Racing are Nintendo IPs. Just because Rare own the rest of the cast doesn’t mean a thing.

      • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

For crying out loud, I said NINTENDO OWNS THE CHARACTER DIDDY KONG. But the VIDEO GAME NAME “DIDDY KONG RACING” IS OWNED BY RAREWARE.

        • Colin Tosh

Except it isn’t. Everything about the Kong name is tied to Nintendo.

Diddy Kong Racing is owned by Nintendo and Nintendo can do what they want with it. Rare own the characters.

Rare was the developer when Nintendo allowed them the Donkey Kong license. That is all they were. If Nintendo want to make a Diddy Kong Racing 2 there is nothing stopping them. Same with Donkey Kong 64 2.

You never name your source and the link appears dead. Nice.

    • Prizm

The link had a few extra characters on the end of the url that shouldn’t be there. Chop those off and you’ll see the original article.

  • http://6starwrestling.net/ Cybrus

I would be very excited for a Diddy Kong Racing 2. I always loved Diddy Kong Racing on my N64. If this does happen, I hope they do like they did with Bayonette and release Diddy Kong Racing 1 and 2 as a bundle :)

  • David Trail

I hope the existence of Diddy Kong Racing 2 is real.

  • Luffy

Haven’t played the first one, but I would welcome this one, especially if it’s made by Monster! They’re greatn with racing games! :)

  • Shy_Guy

I’ve never played the original one before (had PS at the time) but I wouldn’t mind if this comes out :)

  • Squid

This seems pretty possible. Maybe we could see characters like Nabbit in it as well.

  • Squid

If anything nintendo better go run to and buy Banjo from Microsoft before they ruin Banjo again. We really can’t have them ruin childhoods like what they did with Conker.

    • Merry_Blind

What have they done to Conker? I thought the remake was great, wasn’t it?

      • Squid

The remake was fine, not as good as the original. What I’m talking about is that they teased fans saying he hasn’t had a game in ten years and goes”well now make your own” by putting him in project spark.

        • Merry_Blind

Oh that. I see. Yeah, that was weird, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see what exactly they’re doing with him for Project Spark…

  • ShortyStock

Lol, I never even heard of Diddy Kong Racing.

  • Will the3rd

    That pic… xD

  • starwars360

I hope Diddy Kong Racing 2 coming soon for Wii U. I enjoyed DKR on N64 when I were kid and played lots of it with Mario Kart 64. I fell in loved with both kart games back in days when N64 is around.

Mario Kart 8 is my favourite game and best game in 2014 for moment and one of my favourite games of all-time as well.

I really want Diddy Kong Racing 2 add into Wii U’s games library in it’s Wii U lifetime. :)

We have wait and see if it is true. Hopeful it is true.

  • Joseph Oliveira

Diddy Kong Racing, a racing game for minor Nintendo Characters to become big; what a great marketing scheme!

  • Mark

Hell ya! Second best racing game of all time.

  • Phaz0n

    Please be true.

  • Phoenix Maybe

No offense to any Diddy fans, but this sounds fake.

  • Will W

I’m just wondering if they will have Banjo and Kazooie, or the other Rare-characters… they’d have to go through Microsoft…
Maybe it would include strictly DK characters.

  • http://multiversefeeling.blogspot.com/ wwwarea

Diddy Kong Racing on the N64 was better to me.. Honestly it won’t ruin Mario Kart if they made another one.. I mean it would have a lot of stuff Mario Kart NEVER had, like a hub world, and other things.. It would also have new tracks that Mario Kart 8 never had.. A game looking a bit similar in parts isn’t a bad thing.. If it’s something people want, then they should make it. Besides, it’s still a unique game anyway..

Besides, stopping all these ideas, including the new possible tracks, just because of Mario Kart 8 being there, is honestly, a bad thing. It destroys the results man people would wanted just because Mario Kart 8 was there.. Seriously if people don’t like Diddy Kong Racing, then play Mario Kart.

This reminds me of, A HAT IN TIME for some odd reason.
