Estimates put US Wii U sales at 140k, up 233%

NPD-Group

Earlier this week we showed you numbers for all three consoles sold in the United Kingdom, where the Wii U managed to make a startling comeback on the back of Mario Kart 8, selling 479% more than the month previous. New estimates from NPD Group’s numbers put the United States in the same level of growth, though the United Kingdom experienced a bigger boom.

According to these estimates, the Wii U managed to sell around 140k units for a 233% increase in sales over the month of June. With sales in from Japan, United Kingdom, and the United States, it’s looking more and more like Mario Kart 8 was definitely the sales boost that Nintendo needed. Here’s a look at each console sales estimate in the United States for June.

PS4: Number 1 best selling = 269K
Xbox One: Doubled sales from the previous month = 197K
3DS: 150K (up 55% over May, was 225K last June)
Wii U: ~140K (up 233% over last June)

Notice that the Wii U is now up to Nintendo 3DS levels here in the United States, where the Nintendo 3DS has continued to enjoy good success. If Nintendo can keep up the momentum generated by Mario Kart 8 with releases like Super Smash Bros., Hyrule Warriors, and Bayonetta 2, this year could be the best-performing year since the launch two years ago.

    huge improvement Nintendo!

    • matthew garcia

Seeing how Japanese sales kinda are going back to pre Mario kart levels I’m sure that will happen in the U.S.

      • Petri

Since when has Japanese market been indication of how things will go in the west?

        • matthew garcia

If Wii u and mk8 sales are going back down in its home country where Mario is probably more loved they will go back down in the U.S. in my opinion

          • Petri

            Key words “probably” “opinion” spotted.
Guess who I’m quoting more or less:
“Home consoles are dead in Japan”

          • matthew garcia

Well even with a over 200% increase it still got clobbered by ps4 and beat by Xbox one. I believe Wii u’s will go back down

          • Merry_Blind

But handhelds are where it’s at in Japan, whereas in the U.S. consoles are much bigger because everybody prefer their smartphones and tablets over handhelds.

With that said, sure the sales will go down a bit, that’s to be expected, however, I do believe Mario Kart 8 is what the Wii U needed to gain momentum. Mario Kart 8, followed by a great e3, followed by a great Fall game line-up, I think the Wii U will sell very well over the next year.

          • matthew garcia

You are definitely right about that but Wii u is the worst selling of the consoles in the U.S so that’s still not good. It moved in a positive direction though

          • Merry_Blind

I think those are decent numbers for a console considered ‘death’ and ‘a joke’ by many.

If they do a good marketing campaign this holiday season promoting Mk8 and Smash obviously, but also reminding people of all the great exclusives released so far, people might just forget the Wii U is ‘underpowered’ and that it doesn’t play Battlefield, and might just go “the hell with it, I feel like playing some Mario Kart with my family this Christmas!” without even thinking of the downsides of the consoles, which seemed like the only thing people talked and thought about since its launch.

Nintendo just have to remind people what video games are about: FUN, not resolution and framerate and Netflix and online social stuff (though I do love my eye-candy too obviously :P)

          • matthew garcia

Yeah the thing with Nintendo is that they never really changed they have pretty much stuck to there roots and that’s to be innovative and unique as possible. The problem is the people changed

          • Merry_Blind

Well… one thing they did change this generation, with both the 3DS and Wii U, is not pricing them right. Wii sold like hotcakes because it was mindblowing, yes, but also because it was so cheap, not even 300$ at launch!

Here, the 3DS struggled because it was too expensive at launch, then price cut and games and boom back in the game. Wii U was too expensive too, sure they cut the price, and they released great games eventually, but it took too much time compared to the 3DS, which is why it’s difficult to turn around now.

At 300$ I think the price is just right though, but having the Mario Kart 8 at 350$ was a mistake again…

I think they should keep the price at 300$, but add more value to the package this holiday season, like throwing in a Pro Controller with a game that supports it, or a Wiimote+Nunchuck with a game that supports that.

          • 504HotBoy

Matt do you honestly even own a Wii U? Here is my 8th gen set up…. http://postimg.org/image/csvzguq5x/

          • matthew garcia

I do own a Wii u and a ps4 but what does that have to do with sales numbers

          • 504HotBoy

Because in every article, you’re always so negative towards the Wii U. It’s one thing to be critical, hell I’m even critical on certain things. But you’re negative 95% of the times.

          • matthew garcia

Well 95 % percent of the times the article provokes these kinds of comments. It’s not like all my comments are Wii u sucks balls It’s the worst console ever made lol. I never feel my comments are to far from being realistic. Overall Wii u has had a rough time and I’m not wrong about that.

          • 504HotBoy

Nobody is doubting Wii U has had a rough time. Slow sales, drought of software, limited 3rd party support, etc. But in every article when someone come off as negative, even when it’s non related to the topic, being negative, just for the hell of it, or even turning a positive into a negative. Is kind of questionable. You do that a lot. I don’t know if you realize it. That’s why I ask you if you even own the console.

          • matthew garcia

From a business perspective yes I am negative towards Nintendo right now but I never say in my comments that Wii u has bad games or that console is bad. It’s just strictly on business.

          • Rinslowe

            Lol…

          • matthew garcia

            Lol ya know it

          • Daniel Gonzalez

It’s a Wii U site, so anything said against Nintendo, will be the least popular opinion. Major props for dealing with dealing with the silly childish responses, which I wouldn’t bother to even dignify. Have a good one.

          • matthew garcia

Yeah man I’m not even trying to fight or Make fun of anybody. I always just say my opinion but it’s us that get told to shut the fuck up or fuck off. Sounds like most people on this site don’t know how to have a civil argument

          • Daniel Gonzalez

When you’re not defending Nintendo, you tend to attract the worst kinds of fans. If you want to call them true fans even. Real fans learn to take the bad with the good. I wish I can say that on this site, since there’s a group that have a tough time keeping it civil as you said. Whenever people go to such extremes as name calling, it’s nothing that you did wrong personally. It’s the insecurity within them that gets the best of them. I’m sure they’ll doubt that, but if it weren’t the case, then there would be no reason for insults or abnormal behavior.

          • Rinslowe

“When you’re not defending Nintendo, you tend to attract the worst kinds of fans.

False. When you’re predominantly negative. Then you’re almost guaranteed to attract something…

The guy even admitted to holding that view. lol.

“From a business perspective yes I am negative towards Nintendo right now”

          • Rinslowe

People here are more objective than you give credit for. Which is a common fault with you.
“It’s a Wii U site” when things aren’t to your liking… “It’s not a fan site” when your being accused of lacking objectivity…
You project such a consistently jaded view of the site and many of the posters that frequent it. And yet you’re probably one of the sites most active contributors. You are quick to attack and defend “anything” that is said in constructive or aggressive criticism towards your favourite brand. And yet place demerits on anyone that does the same thing regarding Nintendo/ Wii U etc…

It would be nice if just for once, you could quit with the everybody on Wii U Daily is a one sided Nintendo fanboy rhetoric…
            Just saying.

Some people are defenders. That’s a fact. But some are attackers. That’s also a fact. Whether it’s direct or passive aggressive, it’s the same thing when all is said and done. And time n time again, you prove yourself just as guilty of being both.

          • Rich Garriques

DO YOU OWN THE CONSOLE ANSWER THE QUESTION OR STFU

          • Daniel Gonzalez

He already did. Now calm your blood pressure.

          • D.M.T

I don’t think the articles provoke these kind of negative comments 95% of the time. I think it’s you who doesn’t want to accept that the Wii U is not doomed.

          • matthew garcia

            I hope it’s not doomed I paid 350 for my Wii u

          • Segaman

            $350 glorious dollars – yep I’m a Nintendo fanboy – lol.

          • matthew garcia

Lol there is nothing wrong with that

          • Keith

My family is great, Thanxs for asking. How’s your family? I hope you didn’t take what I said offensive or anything. I was just stating that you do kinda speak alot more negative than positive about the Wii U?

          • matthew garcia

Nah man it’s all good. I understand from your perspective that I sound that way

          • Keith

            Agreed ;-)

          • matthew garcia

Of course it does it’s what helps keep people posting. Fanboy wars are what keeps these sites going. Ign does it all the time as do many other sites

          • Daniel Gonzalez

The irony is that fanboys themselves are just as much of a troll, if not worse. They both are at each others necks, and sites like IGN and Wii U Daily know that this will just drive up their revenue. Fanboys and trolls will only go away, when everyone decides to put down their axes, and give up the labeling and stick to civility. Unlikely I know, but that would be the only true solution to it. :P

          • matthew garcia

            I absolutely agree

          • Rinslowe

Isn’t calling out the site and labeling the general poster a fanboy 24/7 a contradiction to your comment just now?
Your sending mixed messages here. Why not be the first through that door instead…

          • Jonathan Robitaille

            ha ha well said

          • Daniel Gonzalez

No one here is mentioning that it’s doomed. That’s your own insecurities talking. You invoke that yourself by assuming that is the case. Matthew is correct, when he said that the Wii U has had a rough time. Where is the doom in that? Appears imaginary. Comments are only negative, if you view them as such. Which in your case, is most of the time.

          • D.M.T

My insecurities? LOL says the guy who doesn’t own a Wii U because he doesn’t wanna take that “risk”. I trust Nintendo, I believe in them. Comments aren’t only negative if you view them as such. Comments are negative when you’re being negative and that’s a fact.

          • Jonathan Robitaille

The Wii U is doomed. As far as sales go. It just isn’t going to happen. It’s still a great console with great games now and even more coming. But it will not hit 10 million consoles sold after 3 Holiday seasons and that isn’t sustainable. But who cares? Let’s enjoy the machine and the great games. It’s already proved worth the purchase. So what’s the big deal if they move on from it and come out with something they feel will do better financially? If for instance they give up on the Wii U and launch their next console Holiday 2016 they will have surpassed the number of quality titles of pretty much all their past consoles except maybe the SNES. That should make us fans happy really

          • D.M.T

Uhmm no the Wii U is not doomed. Stop being ignorant.

          • Rich Garriques

but how many times are you going to remind people of that . like stfu , and by saying articles provoke this shows that’s all you look for.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Commenting on these posts means that’s all you look for. Works both ways buddy. Carry on.

          • D.M.T

Same thing can be said about you Daniel so carry on buddy.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I don’t see where the denial was in that. I am quite surprised there was not a single swear in this post. Nice job.

          • matthew garcia

This is not a fanboy site it’s a news site. Deal with it

          • Guest

Something Daniel Gonzalez would say, exactly…

          • Keith

I definitely have absolutely no beef witg Matthew Garcia. However, he is constantly (and I mean constantly) poating something negative about the Nintendo Wii U & usually puts something positive about the PS4. Hense, “the Wii U got clobbered by the PS4″ exc….

          • D.M.T

Matthew Garcia, Daniel Gonzalez and Magnus Eriksson are insecure creatures. All they do is post negative things about Wii U because they don’t trust Nintendo.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

The fact that you follow our so called “negative posts,” means by your logic, you are also insecure, if not more. Otherwise, nothing that we say, would warrant a response on your part. It’s amazing how opinions affect people more than others. Why would I trust a company that only wants my paper? Sorry, but I don’t hold loyalty to a company that just wants inside my wallet. If that’s your thing, but all means, carry on. I feel no need to be mad at you, DMT, rather, I feel sorry for you. Have a good one, buddy.

          • Rinslowe

Says the guy replying to another guy with your own; “warranted” response. Lol.
“Otherwise, nothing that we say, would warrant a response on your part. “

Do you not see your own hypocrisy? Are you really so blind to your own dribble? Wow. It’s hard to keep a straight face reading your replies Gonzalez. Lololol…

“Why would I trust a company that only wants my paper?”

You have a clear hard-on for Sony that even a monkey could deduce without breaking something. And yet you’re preaching to others on not trusting a company like a blind fanboy. News flash: You ARE the blind fanboy here man… LOL.

” Sorry, but I don’t hold loyalty to a company that just wants inside my wallet”

Hence the “blind” part of being a fanboy… Get help Daniel.

That’s just in the space of a day. You’re on the verge of being a full blown whack job in my opinion. Preaching everyone needs to stop being Nintendo apologists while doing nothing but the same exact thing for your own brand of choice.. Oh man. Talk about a bag of cats. Preaching for a cease fire of finger pointing while calling pretty much an entire community a bunch of biased fanboys. Preaching for civility while slyly inciting the exact opposite in debasing posters characters.

            http://wiiudaily.com/2014/07/japanese-sales-yokai-watch-2/#comment-1492053152

You my man, are a “fraud”. A joke and and “fraud”…

          • 504HotBoy

I been noticed that. I told Daniel about that a while back. Oontz, who I believe is Daniel. Told him to. These dudes come in here, annoying the community. With their bias opinion and everybody know they be D*** riding Sony. Their whole purpose is to downplay any and everything Nintendo does, while promoting and praising their favorite brand (Sony) on the slick side. They need to be banned if you ask me. Every time they make a alias account and come talking nonsense, ban them again.

          • Rinslowe

To be honest I don’t think Oontz is Gonzalez. Although I don’t see eye to eye with him (Oontz) on many topics. He does strike me as generally more intelligent. Not to say Daniel lacks intelligence. But certainly he’s not as articulate. If they are the same person then Bravo well played. I know that Daniel has a few sneaky accounts he likes to use when things aren’t going his way. And it looks as though someone here is onto him as well. A few names I haven’t heard or seen before going around. To bad they’re choosing to stay low key though. Would be interesting to hear their story.
Anyone that has run into the psychobabble Dr. Phil routine that Daniel falls back on when conversations don’t go his way, all have a story to tell…
And for sure, both are total Sony fanboy’s. Which would be fine if in Gonzalez’s case it wasn’t manifesting only in passive aggresive defence of criticisms towards his favourite brand. But at least Oontz comes across as more level headed in that respect. And can be apparently “genuinely” unbiased on occasion.
Daniel doesn’t have that mode. And when the topic goes south as it always does. He likes to play the “if it ain’t positive” card then the “fanboys” will come a runnin… Lol, that’s not it at all though huh. It’s more so that he’s so infatuated with Sony, that 99% of his comments are for some strange reason negative towards every other brand.
I wish these console defenders would just get a room. On both sides.

          • 504HotBoy

The only reason why I assume oontz and Daniel have some connection, is because I was telling Daniel about himself, a little later oontz came in the thread and starting defending Daniel, and attacking me. Daniel disappeared from the comments and I was going at it with Oontz. This happened on 2 different occasions. Wow is he really 34 acting like that?

          • Rinslowe

            Oh for sure…

          • 504HotBoy

            Lmao…….

          • D.M.T

You exposed the living shit out of him. Nice!!! :D

          • D.M.T

You feel sorry for someone who’s probably happier in life than you are? LOL whatever makes you sleep at night buddy. Everyone has insecurities, everyone, so i’m not gonna deny that i don’t have any but negative people like you are the most insecure. I used to ignore your negative, attention seeking posts but I decided not to ignore you any longer because there are a lot of people on the internet who are ignorant and they will believe all the stupid shit you post. When I say trust I’m talking about trusting Nintendo that they will make the Wii U successful. That’s what i mean with trusting Nintendo. I’m not loyal to Nintendo and I never will. I don’t worship companies but only an idiot like you thinks I do. I wouldn’t care if you were mad at me, your opinion about me is completely irrelevant. Have a good one, buddy :)

          • matthew garcia

How can you judge a person based on video games. Is video games all you have in your life to where you have to defend it this way. More to life then games and people are definitely not judged through them. Grow up man

          • Daniel Gonzalez

It might be the only highlight in his day. I have no clue, but sometimes on how he goes about calling people a dumbass or flat out swearing, makes one wonder. Just going through his comments normally, he invokes these problems himself, while throwing the finger at others for trolling. It’s a simple case of pot calling the kettle black. I can’t even get mad if I tried. It’s just too funny to even think about.

          • D.M.T

How can I judge a person based on video games? Well…I’m here every day and all you ever do is post negative things about Nintendo. Are you gonna tell me that’s not insecurity? Video games is damn sure not all I have in life. Video games is nothing more than a hobby to me but it’s people like you who act like video games is all you have in life. Stop being so damn negative because no one likes a negative person.

          • matthew garcia

How,. I’m just commenting on games. I’m not offending anybody. The only way to really be that defensive is if your defending another person but your not your being outlandish because someone says something about your favorite company. Pretty ridiculous. I may be negative towards Nintendo but I never try to put anybody down. Your just to sensitive. Remember you reply to my post. All you have to do is say nothing at all and go about your day

          • matthew garcia

I have nothing against you neither Keith. How is the family

          • 504HotBoy

Yeah I have nothing against Matt either or anybody else for that matter. He’s cool. But like I said it’s questionable when every time you look around, it’s always something negative being said, or turning positive into negative. There’s the promoting and praising Sony thing too. Forget all that dumb stuff that’s being said about Nintendo fans get defensive and it’s a Wii U site, blah, blah. Just calling it like I see it, hell everybody see it. They make it so obvious.

          • Darius

send me a friend request Aris-P!

          • Rinslowe

I prefer the Wii U standing up. It just looks more the part… imo.

          • Darius

Im starting to think he doesn’t I even asked for a friend request and nothing…anyways “Aris-P” i’ll pretty much add anyone

          • 504HotBoy

I don’t think he owns one either. He could post pics with his user name written on paper next to his Wii U and post it, to prove it, or like you said he can add u or you add him. Add me my name is 504NolaBoy

          • Darius

p.s you ever notice that he usually only post’s on articles dealing with the Wii U’s sales? If there’s an article talking about how well the Wii U is doing then here he comes but when it comes to actual games it’s all crickets lol Is he a gamer or a Microsoft salesmen? lol

          • 504HotBoy

No he is an obsessed Sony fan. There are a few of them that troll this site. Whenever it’s positive news, they barely post on the article and if they do, they’ll try to turn the positive into a negative. But when it’s negative news, they flood the comment section with post after post. Also if someone say anything negative about Sony, they rage and defend the hell out of PS. The Wii U has a better sales record than the PS4 in Japan, from it’s early release to now. With almost 2 million Wii U sold in Japan and almost 600k PS4 sold in Japan. Matt don’t like that, so his argument is consoles dead in Japan, that’s a handheld market anyway or well globally Sony is winning, Japan is just one region. Sony has more units sold overall. Which is true, but he makes sure he points that out, to take away any points Nintendo has over Sony. It’s so many other bias Bulls*** comments they make, that a blind man can see they’re coming here to hate with their bias opinions. I doubt any of them own a Wii U. Every gen I own multiple consoles. This gen I have a PS4 & Wii U and most likely will get a Xbox One , because I like several of the exclusives. People who own multiple consoles, may favor one over the other, but they in no way show that much hatred and biasness toward the other, the way they do. Anyway while they’re stuck to their one console, I’ll be playing games like The Legend Of Zelda, Bayonetta 2, Devil’s Third, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Star Fox, Fatal Frame-The Black Hair Shrine Maiden (hopefully it comes to US), Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Sonic Boom- Rise Of Lyric, etc., on my Wii U and The Evil Within, Assassin’s Creed Unity, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts III, Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, Batman Arkham Knight, etc., on my PS4.

          • Darius

I agree with you 100%. I’m waiting until my bday to get my ps4 Im too excited to play the newest metal gear. “Sons of liberty” is still one of my all time favorite games. I actually bought it 3 different times lol i was young so it was hard to keep the disc scratch less

          • Rich Garriques

what kind of stupid logic is that.

          • matthew garcia

Until I see consistent high sales you have nothing to prove

      • Rinslowe

Pre MK8 levels were barely scratching 3k per week average. I wouldn’t count the two weeks before Kart either as those would have been early system sales in anticipation of Kart. From the release of DCKTF to a few weeks before Kart (pre Kart), sales were 2013 drought levels.
        Last six weeks sales have been;
        (Japan)

So I don’t think it’s doing that just yet. But it is trending down. Next two decent titles get released in Japan this Sep. HW and Bayo 2, both of which should provide a little bump in sales there. HW probably more than just a little… Hard to say if it drops to pre Kart no’s by Sep 6th. But could do…

        • 504HotBoy

Hyrule Warriors come out next month in Japan. August 14th I believe. Bayonetta 2 & Fatal Frame come out in September in Japan.

          • Rinslowe

Yeah I thought I saw Sep 6th for HW. But if you’re right it’s likely there won’t be pre Kart figures in Japan this year…
            Maybe…

        • matthew garcia

Smash bros will give it the same boost but that’s the only game for rest of the year that I can see doing it. Hyrule warriors and bayonetta won’t sale like that. They will sale ok though

          • Rinslowe

I think you’re underestimating Hyrule Warriors in Japan. Looking at those six week figures, are for Japan only. Sure Kart will likely have sold better than either. But my point is that, getting back to pre Kart no’s may not happen. If Hyrule Warriors and Bayo 2, also with Fatal Frame + additional Kart sales keep the figure on a higher average than 6k a week we won’t see a return to pre Kart no’s for some time, imo, if at all. 6k per week being a pretty conservative figure considering whats coming…

          • matthew garcia

Oh I’m sure those games will sale great in japan but Nintendo really needs U.S support in my opinion. I could be wrong though

          • Rinslowe

No I don’t think anybody is debating that. Considering that between Kart and Watchdogs with June being an important month for both Sony and Nintendo in regards to those titles. And their selling well respectively. I think a 100 k unit lead in the states for the month of June between both the US & Japan – doesn’t really say ‘ass kicking” to me… I could be wrong.
But with the Wii U’s outlook improving and the PS4 settling into a groove. It might be a little early to be calling either party out just yet…

          • matthew garcia

It’s definitely early and time will tell

Exactly Hyrule Warriors is the number 4 most wanted game in Japan. More than Kingdom Hearts III.

      • ActivesiN

japan is a different beast altogether, they don’t really care about home consoles as much, MK8 will slow down thats for sure but now the other games are coming bayonetta 2 , hyrule warriors and smash so it should be steady from here on out

    • Merry_Blind

      Yeah props to them!

  • gtosheex

I just don’t get how PS4 sells so much more with almost no high profile games – I’m shocked but at the same time impressed.

    • Potemkin

      Potential, my guess.

I plan on buying one not because of the current catalog, but what has yet to come.

      • boynhisblobs

But what’s to come really? No major promises from anybody. Ok, sure, you’ll get another Madden, another FIFA, another COD, another Battlefield….so….Nothing too grand on the horizons for me except No Man’s Sky and thats at least a year away. Zero potential for me.

        • Tray

Watch Dogs, Infamous Second Son, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Dragon Age Inquisition, Batman Arkham Knight, Quantum Break, Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy XV, and many more AAA titles. The Wii U is my favorite console. But there is no doubt that there are a lot of excellent games coming out or PS4/XB1. They may not be all your cup of tea, but they are all extremely popular, high-profile titles.

          • FutureFox

Has Quantum Break been confirmed to be multiplat? Last I heard it was only for Xbone.

          • Tray

Dunno… I was just listing games on either. I have an X1 and will be getting a PS4. Nintendo is my favorite, but they all have great games to offer.

          • Rena

im only interest in KH3 nad sunset overdrive. i get xone maybe next year.
            ps4 exclusives so….. weird

          • Tray

Sunset Overdrive looks awesome. Forgot that one! :)

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Exactly.

          • boynhisblobs

Those are almost all third party, no? With the hopes and possibilities of coming to Wii U. I’m saying no major first party releases other than a couple. Most of those are not exclusives that I’ll pick up for PC.

          • Tray

The question is why people in general would want to by these other systems, not why would you. And the question is not why wouldn’t they get the PC version. You even brought up Battlefield, which is also PC. Millions of gamers prefer console gaming. So if the question is why would gamers want to buy a PS4 or XB1 (and that is the question), it is because there are a ton of awesome games coming out for those systems. And there is absolutely 0 chance of most of those games coming out for Wii U. The Wii U simply has no chance of being able to handle the new Dragon Age or FFXV. I love the Wii U. The XB1 couldn’t handle some of those games if they weren’t installed. And most of those games are larger than the Wii U’s entire storage capacity. No developer is going to release a game that requires the purchaser to also purchase an external hard drive. Especially when the existing third party titles have sold so horribly on the Wii U. I love the Wii U. It is my favorite system. But it just isn’t designed for things like Dragon Age. And that’s OK.

        • Potemkin

In my case is Guilty Gear Xrd…

    • matthew garcia

I’m not sure either. Maybe people who never played the last of us last wanting to play it on ps4. Like all the ex Xbox one players who shifted over to ps4

    • Capt. Smoker

I don’t understand it either, PS4 has indies, ports from the PS3 and a few games, most being highly sub par, not worth it’s price tag in my book, makes me wonder just how on earth it even sells at all…

    • Merry_Blind

For the same reasons smartphones sell so well; COOL GADGET MAN I WANT ONE.

      • Victor O

I think this has a lot to do with it. I’m wanting the PS4 too, but I keep fighting my logic. Want new technology and graphics vs. there aren’t many games that I want to play.

    • greengecko007

Brand trust, and knowing that the platform will be supported by major developers. The Wii U has the best games for currently for Nintendo fans.

      • Rinslowe

Wii U first party titles are as good as they’ve ever been. Those that think otherwise might just be stuck in nostalgia mode a little too much, lol…

        • greengecko007

I agree. I have a few friends though that game exclusively on the platforms of their childhood, playing N64 titles and the original Pokemon games on gameboy. I don’t berate them or anything, as it’s fine to play the games you love, but I do feel that they are missing out. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying good games and feeling nostalgic, but constantly sticking to the past and not accepting change may be signs of deeper psychological issues…

          • audi lover

Or maybe they just like those games? psychological issues? Its gaming you play what you enjoy dickhead

          • greengecko007

I already said that there’s nothing wrong with playing games that you like and that I don’t hold that against people like that, especially since I have friends that do the same.

          • Rinslowe

I don’t know about deeper psychological issues and accepting change. But it stands to reason that those that are stuck in the past don’t deal change in the same way as well adjusted people. Lol
I enjoy each platforms legacy games just as much as everyone else. That’s why I said what I said with that comment. Having those old systems on hand. And being able to play them when I want. I can attest to the factual nature of Ninty’s recent titles still having that “thing” which allows them to be every bit as engaging as titles of yesteryear. I think the guys n girls that are stuck in the past there, really haven’t spent much time with Nintendo’s titles in recent years including their Wii titles to say with any conviction. But are more likely speaking from a position of “fond memory” more-so than “current experience”.
I mean, there’s a fair amount of people that slam the Wii console left right and center. And yet, although there are some aspects we can all agree with – like the power debate. Motion controls were a really nice change of scenery. Not to mention the Galaxy games were master class. SS was a really good title – had it’s oddities – but to me that’s a Zelda title for you. Mostly it was genius…
            etc.. etc..

          • greengecko007

When I mentioned psychological issues, I mostly was referring to the people that go overboard and play games only for nostalgia. Reminiscing and appreciating good games and their legacy is one thing. But gaming only for nostalgic purposes could definitely be a sign of somebody who is unhappy with their present day life trying to escape back to happy childhood memories.

And really, that one sentence was just supposed to be a cynical joke. Guess I’m not that funny, huh?

          • Rinslowe

Well that makes two of us, lool.
But yeah, I got your meaning the first time. Just thought to build on it to avoid further name calling by random posters that wanted to take either comment at face value…

          • http://www.gengame.net/ Guesty Pooh!

My N64 is plugged in next to my Wii U, so I’m stuck in the past whilst embracing the future!?!
Or am I embracing the past whilst bebeing stuck in the future?!?!

    • The Clockwork Being

It’s the marketing. Sony made people believe PS4 was something you needed now, the gaming console that surpasses its competitors. Along with huge promises of tons of exclusives and the multiple jabs at Xbox.

And it worked. But hey they managed to grow the install base and now all they need to do is bring out the games.

      • Rinslowe

Sony’s superior marketing and advertising machine is the biggest factor for PS4 I think.
There’s still plenty of compelling reasons for the savvy gamer to own a PS3 today…

      • gtosheex

Yeah that is what i was thinking too – i feel like Sony was very fortunate that Nintendo and Microsoft screwed up last year. But all credit to them i guess.

    • D.M.T

It’s because of brand trust and brand loyalty. Many gamers are loyal to the PlayStation brand and others know the PS4 will have the best 3rd party support. That’s why it keeps selling like hot cakes even though it has no games.

    • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

Believe it or not, dedicate gamers like us are in the minority (even though we are the most vocal) so some of us don’t see a reason rush out and buy a PS4 right now. Most of those people who bought it are casuals(I don’t mean the soccer mom type but the dude bro variety)
As long as they get to play the new COD,Madden,2K, the next GTA or Fifa, they don’t care.Several of my co-workers went out to buy it on launch just so they can continue to play those same games.
They hardly play games like Uncharted or Final Fantasy so it doesn’t really bother them there’s no high profile games yet. It’s also the “FIRST” mentality.

    • boynhisblobs

Cuz it’s new, shiny and mysterious! Once that third one goes away it’ll drop off fast.

    • Jason

      Blu Ray Player

    • Vorpal Blade

I wanna say it’s all because of that faithful day at E3 2013 where Nintendo had nothing, Microsoft stabbed themselves in the stomach, and Sony did everything right….and poked fun of Microsoft. I was tempted to buy a PS4 just because they made fun of the X-bone.

    • Rich Garriques

its called popular opinion , ps4 has hardly any games but because the mass media promotes it almost every where thats why people think its the best thing. it isnt fair but its true.

      • 504HotBoy

You’re exactly right. Infact that’s one of the reasons a friend of mine bought one for her son last Christmas. Because all the positive things she heard about it. It’s the same with movies and music. Hype, buzz and strong word of mouth, can go a long ways in helping sales.

    • FutureFox

What’s really disturbing is despite the complete bungle of Xbone’s launch it still sold very well. What will it take for people to be burnt out by Halo?

      • Zach Cruz

I bought the xbox one not just for halo.. I currently enjoy Forza 5, Titanfall is fun every now and then although it kinda burnt out after the first couple months, same with dead rising, Plants vs Zombies at the moment is my go to shooter which is a surprise even to me.

    • thedeciderU

advertising, something nintendo has failed at for 1.5 years up until mk8. that’s my guess. and because ps3 launched some serious exclusives in the last 12 months.

    • Zach Cruz

I have Xbox One, PS4 and WII U currently for all my pre-orders my PS4 holds the most then Wii U..

I don’t know what’s more shocking – the fact that you have pre-ordered 15 games or the fact that you took the time to type that whole message… you must be a rich kid with loads of money and loads of time lol.

        • oontz

Why does he need to be a rich kid?

          • Shootdatrupee!…

For a start…he has every console. Except maybe the Vita since I don’t see any mention of it. That’s >$2000(about the total of my war chest), and it doesn’t include any software he maybe already has. You don’t see many kids pour that amount of money into gaming, especially not in the window of a year…

          • Zach Cruz

no i have the vita…. i dont play it haha

          • Zach Cruz

this gaming laptop I have alone is worth 3k but yeaaaah not a kid haha I am young but not a kid. Gaming isn’t a priority for me its a hobby that I enjoy

          • Shootdatrupee!…

Guess I’m taking the term ‘rich kid’ too literally then. Still. What you have there is worth an awful lot. Of course, I’ve seen adults spend more on mobile games. I think there were some spending $500 a month…and that was on one game.

          • Zach Cruz

Yeaaah I aint that rich to spend 500$ a month… I mean I could but…. I am sure then I would see that I have a problem haha

          • gtosheex

yeah what “shootdatrupee!…” said. Besides, I dont know of anyone that has all 3 consoles or gets that many games in a year’s time – let alone have the time to play them. So he has to be a rich kid haha.

          • 504HotBoy

Not really. I buy games all through out the year. Although I don’t have time to play them all. But since I collect them it doesn’t matter. I’m not rich, but I’m financially stable to buy as I please. I’m a adult though, not a kid. He may be a adult as well.

          • Zach Cruz

^ exactly and since theyre all through amazon they dont charge you til they ship, hell if I want I can cancel them or if anything its only 60$ every few months.. some months maybe 2 games come out..

        • Zach Cruz

I am actually very frugal with money and budget very well. I get paid well and gaming is a thing I do on the side after a long day of work and working out I would assume by the list of games youd assume oh he is a rich fat kid or a rich fat adult, however I am a personal trainer and go to body building competitions. I have a love for weight lifting and gaming

          • gtosheex

You might be telling the truth – but that is the exact thing I expect a fat rich kid to say… lol

          • Zach Cruz

Haha thats fine, I dont care if you believe me or not its the internet I dont get butt hurt if people dont believe the things I say. I have a life outside of this gaming is just a hobby on the side.

      • Rinslowe

Which means you really like your PS4. That’s cool.

        • Zach Cruz

I just like the content that will eventually be coming out and for the games that both xbox one and PS4 get I’ll stick to PS4 as it will handle the software more. Wii U I love a lot its just missing a lot of those exclusive factors in older nintendo generations. I want a lengthy mario game, zelda, metroid etc.

    • RARE

I’ve had a PS4 for 3 months now. I haven’t bought any retail games. I’ve been satisfied with their free Playstation Plus Games, Free to Play games, and most recently the Destiny Beta. I’ve only spent $15 dollars on it and have had a ton of fun while I’ve a ton more money on XB1 games with not nearly as much to show for it.

      In short, indies man.

    • Mr. J

Buy one and you’ll see. I have one and it’s just like…..wow.

      • Mr. J

Now I have a wii u too tho and love it as well

      • gtosheex

Yeah – wow as in “wow what a huge waste of money” haha.

        • Mr. J

          Um no

  • Kenshin0011

I don’t get why devs crap all over Wii U for not being “mass market” enough while lately it’s either selling as much as the Xbone, or a little more, globally. Wtf?

    • Colin Tosh

Third parties confuse me as well. People say “the fanbase” is on XBO…. yeah. That is why Ubisoft are getting more than double sales on PS4.

Its pretty much run before you can walk. These companies sometimes seem like they lack intelligence to me because they are literally band wagon hoppers. I remember them backing PS3 as the real console but when 360 sold better they changed their minds.

Have these companies not learned you can’t predict where the market will shift? I know it seems mad to call them sheep but it is true.

      PS2 dominates = baa Sony.
A surprising split between MS and Sony = baa Xbox and Playstation.

They are only backing XBO because they are sheep. I am convinced of it.

    • Avalon

There’s this term called a ‘target market’..

  • Rinslowe

So that’s roughly 192+ k for US and Japan in June for Wii U. With 298 k or thereabouts for PS4 in US and Japan. That’s a decent lead, but realistically not the ass kicking one would imagine. For Nintendo it’s the first party titles that sell the most. We all know this fact. It’s both a blessing and a curse for the big N. Whereas third party titles have just as much a chance of selling units as first party on Sony’s hardware – and they had Watchdogs release a bit before June which sold quite well…
I think if any console is going to obliterate the other in terms of sales no’s. Then it’s realistically going to need to do so by more than a 100 k a month…

Looking at how Wii U is performing now I’d say Kart definitely has helped improve sales. We all thought it would sell more units than this in the states. But it’s still a decent no’ for the platform all things considered. Software is the big money maker for Nintendo’s own titles and that speaks for itself. They’ve definitely done ok there. Enough to compensate for the free games though? Wouldn’t know… But my gut feeling is that they make plenty off of a full retail price first party game to allow for it. Thing is they’re still recuperating loses from Wii U’s initial investment and price cuts. But the software attach ratio is decent as well – around 5 titles per every system sold. So has it all leveled out? Guess we’ll find out when they release their 2014 annual earnings…

Also, are the UK figures out already for hardware sales? Haven’t seen them…

    • Capt. Smoker

Given only Nintendo games sell on the Wii U, I doubt Nintendo mind about all else too, if 3rd party games want to sell well on the Wii U, they’d better maje it exclusive and they’d better make if suit the tastes of the Nintendo consumers, seems to be the common mistake I see the most.

  • Capt. Smoker

Nice to see the Wii U on the rise once again, I don’t think it’ll make a difference to 3rd party developers though at this point, which has really been the nail in the coffin for a while now in regards to sales, saying that,I doubt after all the trash talk, most Nintendo fans wouldn’t buy their games anyway, I know I won’t, sure hope we get some decent 3rd party exclusives though. :)

    • Ghasfarost

yeah, third party support won’t come back until 2015 when Nintendo gives their yearly results

      • Jon Turner

2015 SHOULD be the year of third parties returning, especially if WiiU continues its momentum.

  • RecheDiazrivarola

    where is it vita?

    • Capt. Smoker

Looks like the Vita is getting shoddy treatment too :(

  • RecheDiazrivarola

    irrational ps4 sales.

    • Leo

They say its an “investment” :O) bwahahahaha

  • RecheDiazrivarola

3ds is the best selling console, global

  • Joseph Oliveira

I blame the good marketing scheme. Buy MK8 and recieve a free $50 to $60 game via download? Awesome! Do it again for Christmas time. It would be like the next Tickle Me Elmo craze.

  • boynhisblobs

Nintendo brings the games, plain and simple. What I love about Nintendo is the Quality of each game. They are literally 100% bug free. Never saw a goomba freeze in mid air after an attack, never see links sword twitch in the sunlight. They make sure that when the game is ready for release, it doesn’t need a million patches to just play as promised. Thats why I buy Nintendo, hopefully a lot of other people are starting to realize this after all the glitchy games sony likes to release.

” What I love about Nintendo is the Quality of each game. They are literally 100% bug free.”

Nintendo’s games sometimes have bugs. Nobodys perfect.

      • 00EpicGamer00

Metroid: Other M has a game breaking glitch too. I think Twilight Princess does as well. Unless I just didn’t do something right.

      • Rinslowe

It should have just said their games are known for their quality and polish. Which is more accurate. They generally release in as complete form as is possible and their studios are talented developers that’s a fact. The exception to the rule is just that. But the majority of games can be said to have that quality…
        To be fair.

        • oontz

I find Nintendo titles to be of the highest quality, with minimal bugs or glitches.

          • Rinslowe

I think generally speaking that is true of their releases…

  • allvalve

Its good news obviously, but I must admit I was hoping the Wii U would at least match the Xbox1 for June. The July figures will be much telling, as MK8 momentum has died off, as has the Kinectless XB1.

  • Gizmo

Impressive. I predicting that Wii U will outsell Xbox one in this years holiday season.

    • Keith

Well that definitely goes without saying ;-)

    • Blarg

Nah. Nintendo doesn’t have anything whilst Xbox has Sunset Overdrive and Halo MCC :)

  • Colin Tosh

XBO is still selling poorly even with the price drop. This is getting me curious about the future of the system.

Jason Rubin was quick to deck Wii U as one of the consoles “we don’t” (speak for yourself mate) own but it seems XBO is having as hard a time as Wii U is. I wonder what he makes of this.

  • Bob Charlie

Great news! I dislike EA, and kind of dislike Ubisoft as of late, but third parties need to read into these numbers and see that there is potential for sales with the Wii U. Nintendo’s willingness to merge their franchises with other franchises is what will sell third party games on the Wii U and I have no idea why companies are not trying to do what Hyrule Warriors is doing.
    The Sims: Nintendo Edition
    Sim City: The Mushroom Kingdom
    Luigi’s Creed
    CoD: Big Boo

    GOLD!

    • 00EpicGamer00

It’d be awesome to have a Nintendo version of The Sims, lol. The game is already hilarious as is. Adding Nintendo characters to the bunch would just make it better.

      • Bob Charlie

        Haha, nice!

      • Rinslowe

Scary but so true. I don’t even use facebook anymore. I know terrible huh…
And yeah sims on Wii U would be great. A complete legacy edition, with solid gamepad support.
Tomadachi Life has everything else covered, maybe…

        • 00EpicGamer00

I as well think a Sims game would be a great addition to the Wii U’s library. There’d be no HUD cluttering the screen! Maybe EA will bring The Sims 4 to consoles as well as PC. But…since EA is known to be dumb asses when it comes to the Wii U. They’d probably release it on every condole but Wii U. That includes the Wii, DS, and the 3DS. Just because of greed.

Oh, and don’t feel bad about not using Facebook anymore. I don’t either. You’re not alone, friend. Facebook is honestly stupid after you get past the “oh my god! I’m on a social network!” Feel. I think Wii U Daily is a better “social network” than Facebook. At least you don’t see people “talking about their bum” on here.

          • Rinslowe

Well hopefully you haven’t spoken to soon, lool. Bums don’t usually make for stimulating conversation…
And talking to bums literally even less so.
            :P

If EA wanted to catch a growing niche maybe they should go toe to toe with Tomadachi life. And make a ground up, Wii U sims angled towards the fanbase – beating Nintendo to the punch, I mean have they even confirmed there would be a Wii U version?

You know, it could end up being like having McD’s and KFC side by side. Could be better for business…

          • 00EpicGamer00

Haha, I was just poking fun at the stupid toilet paper commercial. At the end of it, this lady says “let’s talk about your bum on Facebook.” Look, I don’t know okay.

Yeah, that’s what EA should do. That’d actually be pretty interesting to see. And no, no Wii U version is confirmed. Actually, at this point, I don’t think any console versions are comfirmed. Just PC.

          • Bob Charlie

They could have success with Command & Conquer, too! :( I miss Westwood Studios.

          • 00EpicGamer00

Didn’t Westwood “help” make Dead Space? Or was that someone else? I know it’s something “wood.” I just beat the game too. I’m being serious, lol. After destroying a huge alien abomination, I was just like “*shrug* why not hop on Wii U Daily, and see what’s going on.”

        • Leo

The only great Sims game is the original released in the year 2000. All the sequels are garbage.

    • FutureFox

Isn’t that why they have Tomodachi Life now and soon Splatoon?

      • Bob Charlie

I’m talking about third party games. I am sure on other gaming websites you have seen just how dedicated some people are to their consoles. First and second party Nintendo games alone just are not going to sway most of those people to purchase a Wii U. If you give these people an incredible reason to get a Wii U by merging a world they enjoy with a Nintendo franchise it may just give the Wii U the boost it needs.

        • FutureFox

I’m getting the impression from Nintendo that they have TL and Splatoon as their way of borrowing from third-parties and fostering new gamers from that.

There’s a lot of opinion on hear about winning the 18-20 something gamers back and that just doesn’t seem to be Nintendo’s aim. By that age people have pretty their ways set as far as their choice gaming goes, which sort of explains the very phenomenon with some Wii U owners: they like Nintendo’s brand of products.

The problem is that strategy will work for the short term but Nintendo would either have to commit to delivering that more and more just to keep people happy which moves them away from their own business philosophy. If not and they decide to go back to their usual way of doing business people will begin to decline again. Over that span of time it will have drained their resources to look forward and instead will have spend more energy adjusting up and down and not simply going forward with their vision.

There’s an analogy I have that may or may not come off a depressing (or insulting to someone) but there is a bit truth to it nonetheless. It goes like this:

Never chase a girl who’s broken your heart. As in the case of gamers and Nintendo some have broken Ninty’s heart (I know corny, right?) but that doesn’t mean they should go chasing after them because of the great times they had together. Its done. They instead man up to the situation and seek new conquests. They’re moving on trying their “game” on other girls (consumers) to see what will bite next.

The reasons you stated really does play out like a sad love story. Replace Nintendo with the protagonist boy, gamers with girl and other consoles with her new man. It starts to seem like people would want Nintendo to “change” who he is just to get the girl back. It more times than not doesn’t play out well in real life and likely won’t do so for Nintendo if they adopted that strategy. The movies are a different reality : )

The other thing is, its a moving target to both try to win back old costumers while aligning with their ever changing tastes in games. Suddenly Nintendo becomes a slave to the trend instead of being trend setting. In the profit game it looks bad in the short term but the long term rewards are better when properly managed and can be prepared for ahead of time.

Afterall, who’s to say that “incredible reason” isn’t what gamers are currently getting on the other platforms anyway?

          • Bob Charlie

            I didn’t read this. Sorry.

          • FutureFox

            That’s ok.

  • Nintenjoe82

That’s not too bad. It’s not exactly great and they will drop down but the fact that the worst selling console can sell anything in June should not be ignored. MK8 needs another push at Xmas and they can easily beat their targets.

It doesn’t matter that it can only hope to achieve Gamecube levels of success. We all know we’ll play the best games, just not the ones that the masses are playing. Then in 10 years time we can still be playing our Wii Us while the hipsters on the internet all claim they were part of that niche that had the best console like they do with Gamecube, Dreamcast, Saturn and N64.

  • InterTreble

This is exactly what we forecasted months and months ago, and haters and trolls were insulting us about. You were wrong, it’s an official piece of news, we told you to wait, you didn’t want to listen… Now you pay. Very bed day for all of them, people who never have fun with videogames, a real pity! ;)

  • anthony optimo

I still haven’t seen a Mario kart 8 commercial outside of the ones I saw on the Wii U…

  • Segaman

I love reading this! I bleed Nintendo red. They have my heart because they make the greatest, hugh quality games and the nostalgia of being the last true video game company left – since Sega bowed out of hardware. They aren’t a company that decided to look for a new revenue stream and decided to create a video game division. Sony is an electronics company and Microsoft a software company…Nintendo a game company. It’s all they do. It’s their craft and they are second to none. Argue this or that about the other two companies all you want Nintendo is the patriarch. They deserve EVERYONE’S respect. Buy an Xbox One or PS4, but you should always have that machine that gives you Mario nestled right beside it.

  • HydePark1980

I remember this industry when it was just Nintendo and Sega, it was strong and healthy rivalry and we got some of greatest game made. Now this industry has turned has become an inflated all-out console war riddled with average to incomplete games, game site smear campaigns.

Like any war you get survivors, Nintendo may not have the best numbers of this generation but you better damn sure believe they’ll have the most memorable games of this generation. Why……..because they want to survive.

  • brian

“selling 479% more than the month previous”

Once again, poor reading comprehension. The 479% figure is year over year.

  • PS4WiiURocks

Right now my ps4 is collecting dust…But with mario 8 im so busy

  • Darius

Sales are cool and all but I’d rather discuss games instead lol I’m more of a gamer than a salesman :/

  • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

No shit with big hitters it will be the best since launch lol. But thats not saying much, a 1000% boost in sales when it sold so poorly to begin with isn’t much lol. As for Hyrule Warriors, get that shit outta here.

  • FutureFox
  • iamserious

I guess I’m not as optimistic as other people because I still don’t think this is good enough for Nintendo. The US is the biggest market for Nintendo so far and 140K/month consoles really isn’t much. That’s just over 1.5 mil annual for the US if it stays like this. At this rate the Wii U won’t even match GameCube numbers. I really like the Wii U but I hope the sales keep picking up so it can continue to get support from Nintendo and hopefully garner some 3rd party support as well. I want it to last longer than just a few years.

    • Jonathan Robitaille

right? these announcements have really got the fanboys irrationally happy. These numbers are alarming. They needed like a million console push from Kart. 140K? Pathetic. I too love my Wii U. I am just finishing up ZombiU (excellent game) and recently beat DKTF. I will move on to Rayman Legends and plan to get SM3DW after that. The system rocks and the games are stellar. But Nintendo failed with the Wii U on many levels. Their system seller failed to sell systems. It’s pretty much game over. No…Smash and Amiibo will not matter. It’s over. Hopefully they have finally learned from their second awful launch in a row and make their next hybrid system top notch and a must own to gamers. The sooner they go balls to the wall developing the next console the sooner they can jettison this failed console.

      • KH

You seriously expect for Mario Kart 8 to shift 1 million WIi U consoles, on its own, during summer, in only one month? The only consoles that have been able to that high during the summer would be the PS2 and Wii. Mario Kart 8 till now, seems to have doubled the weekly baseline of the Wii U, which is magnificent on its own right. Mario Kart has also always been a slow burner, it is not a boost that has its whole effect in the first week or month, it is a slow burner, that maintains the console at higher sale. There is also the case of people still not getting the console for only freaking Mario Kart 8, and then having to wait till Holidays to get SSBU, it would be way better, to simply wait till Holidays, and get all 3 things together, along the other inbetween games.

You also have to look at E3, the presentation what showed was, that it would be better to wait till 2015 or Holidays 2014 to get a Wii U, than buying it now. So wait till Holidays, before you call Game Over on the poor console, or are you forgetting the dooming the 3DS and PS3 got before their was a diverse library, which setted the consoles on fire? Sure, beating the PS4, at this rate is impossible, unless some miracle happens, but the Wii U can still end up in a nice second place.

        • Jonathan Robitaille

I just am not seeing it I guess. You have to remember that there was more marketing surrounding this and they were giving away a free 1st party game as well. Mario Kart has always been the biggest seller so I would have expected with all of that more people would have taken the plunge. The only thing I can think of why the sales are so low is because people are just not interested. And while I and the other lucky Wii U owners will be fine and supplied with great games and more than our money’s worth..it won’t help the bottom line and Nintendo is a business. They will move on to something they feel will sell better.

          • KH

Yes, but also remember that the one free game deal, didn’t saw much advertizement outside of the internet, so the casuals, who are the ones who would mostly go to buy the console, with MK8 release, didn’t know much about it. The ones who saw it, were the more hardcore gamers, which are waiting for SSBU, X, and/or Zelda U. They will take the plunge, but litle by little, the Mario Kart effect will be a permanent one, unlike the Titanfall effect, and what will surely be the Destiny effect.

The sales are just low, because the casuals, still confuse it with the Wii, Nintendo MUST kill the Wii before Christmas 2014, and in the Holiday commercials, call it their new home console, so that people know, it is not just the Gamepad, and that it is a whole new console.

Nintendo already said the Wii U has a long life ahead of it, and that they will not move on till Wii U owners are satisfied, so it will have a 5-7 year cycle. Don’t worry about it.

          • Jonathan Robitaille

I’m not worried either way. I’ll be happy to keep playing the great games. Sales figures should really only matter to shareholders. After all, like you said, Nintendo plans to keep supporting. I just think that support might end a year sooner than usual. So 4-5 years, because financially they can’t keep this up…that is…Iwata won’t keep his job unless he rights the ship and maybe a new console would do that.

          • KH

The Wii U should begin to leave profit from hardware soon, so everything would be fine, and losses shoul begin to dissapear, hopefully beginning on the meeting on the 30th. So don’t worry neither, about the financials, since everything should begin to leave profits soon.

  • WellWisher

Hopefully this means big numbers for Christmas. June numbers are never worth getting excited over.

  • Justinr

I feel this holiday season will be very good for the wii u. It has a lot to stand on now.

  • Nintendoro

It’s still hard to see Wii U in the shop shelves here in UK. Online stores mainly :(

  • Leo

The western gamers only care about shooters and their yearly FIFA game, nothing else. And they have the nerve to say that WiiU are for “casuals”… lol
