Wii U version of Project Cars has been delayed to 2015

project-cars-5

If you were looking forward to picking up Project Cars this November on Wii U, you’re going to have a bit more of a wait ahead of you. Today publisher Bandai Namco announced that the Wii U version of Project Cars has been delayed to 2015. Slightly Mad Studios has yet to show any footage from the Wii U version, leading many to believe that it’s not up to speed with the rest of the developed versions for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Here’s the statement issued by Bandai Namco:

We’re committed to delivering an exceptional and unique experience for racing fans on Wii U and for this we kindly ask our devoted and passionate Nintendo fans for a little more time in order to ensure the game delivers on our vision of being the most authentic, beautiful, and technically-advanced racing game on any platform.

This is the same thing that happened to Watch Dogs, when Ubisoft said the special GamePad interaction with the game needed extra time in the development oven in order to perfect. Will you be getting Project Cars on another platform in November, or will you wait until 2015 to play the game on the Wii U?

Wanted to get the WiiU version, but definitely not now. FU, Slightly Mad! I am gonna spend those money on Zelda U.

    • Nintenjoe82

don’t blame the people who made it, blame the publisher who acquired the game in the last month.

    • abe

I don’t think this is slightly made fault. They’ve been very open about everything and not once have they ever said about problems for the Wii u version, note that its Namco Bandai announcing the delay not the rather vocal devs

    • Darius

I’m still interested at least lol

    • TalesOfBS

It is not Slightly Mad fault. It was Namco.

    • bistricky

      “Zelda U”

Spend your money on a game that isn’t going to be released until 2015 ….. but likely will be delayed until 2016 …. or 2017.
      :(

      • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Zelda U was supposed to be this year. It will be November 2015 fact.

        • bistricky

Usually we agree …. but November 2015 is not fact. There is hope because it would be the key Christmas season game for 2015 …. but it has no solid release date and until then, it is never fact.

          • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Sure if it came out sooner then November that would be fine, but Zelda pretty much ALWAYS releases in November. Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, A Link Between Worlds all came out in November. Sure Windwaker HD was October but still. History shows November is the month Nintendo chooses for Zelda. Halo 5 Vs Uncharted 4 Vs Zelda Wii U in November 2015.

          • bistricky

It certainly makes the most sense … for all the reasons you have described ….. November 2015 is the perfect fit for Zelda U …… but certainly, this time is filled with uncertainty.

Just look at all the games that have been delayed this year (on all consoles) …. so yes, November is exactly the right month …. but 2015 ….. all guarantees are out-the-window …… to me, 2016 has equal odds for Zelda U, as 2015.

            Cheers :D

          • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Zelda U has been in the works for 5 years come November 2015 roughly, so it will be out.

      • SolarShane13

Once again, Zelda isn’t multi platform. First Party games your forced to wait for, AND Nintendo won’t make bullshit excuses like “oh, it’s the install base” or “we needed to optimize it for the GP”.

    • Dark Lord Sauron

slightly mad is not to be blame its all namcos doing so i say to namco fk u

  • Joecoo1

What another third party delay. I hate these type of delays, and I’m still waiting on Watch Dogs. Before we know it they might cancel the game on us like Battlefield, Alien colonial marines, Metro Last night, Crysis 3… really wanted that.

    • D Moness

The only reason I am still getting watch dogs for the wii U is that i placed and paid for a pre-order on the ubistore in may 2013

      • abe

I believe they killed the Wii U version but brought it back. IF the Wii u versions comes out in November in assassins creed ‘s usual spot it would be a year late but I suspect we would of heard it announced by now if that was true. I hope I’m wrong and i it comes out with amazing Wii U gamepad support that completely changes the game and comes with all the DLC but I suspect IF it turns up it’ll have the stuff from the tablet app… Maps mostly

    • Ducked

It’s just not third party. Pikmin 3 and DK Tropical Freeze were also delayed.

      • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

Are you seriously comparing the two? Hardly the same situation.
Pikmin 3 and TF are 1st party exclusives so people who wanted it had no choice but to wait.
PC on the other hand, is a 3rd party multiplat that Wii U owners don’t have to wait for because all other versions will release on schedule.

It makes no sense to me because SMS was really pulling for the Wii U version and hyping it up,saying how powerful the console really is now all of the sudden pushes it to the side in favor of the PS4 and ONE.
Either they where lying through their teeth, or something shady is going on over at NamcoBandi

        • Ducked

I love Wii U. But developing on Wii U is a stretch when your developing on PS4/Xbox One. Ps4 and Xbox One is pretty close in specs, Wii U drags a little behind. The Gamepad doesn’t exactly help either. Namco is pretty much doing what most third parties do. They develop on PS4/One, then take some time and money and port a watered down version to Wii U. In reality Nintendo is to blame. They refuse to make more powerful hardware to match Sony and Microsoft. The result is less support for their system. 90% of games you’ll play on a Nintendo console, are Nintendo.

          • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

Well maybe 3rd parties should stop selling people a dream and making promises the don’t intend to keep. The blame should be shared by both Nintendo and the 3rd Parties who make bad ports or delay/cut out features in games
People need to stop giving them a free pass.

          • Ducked

            I agree.

          • D.M.T

Do yourself a favor and stop damage controlling and stop defending Bandai Namco’s anti consumer practices. Wii U version was in development way before the PS4/XBO version so the Wii U version is NOT a watered down version of those versions. It doesn’t matter if Wii U is less powerful, Project CARS for Wii U was in development first and should be released in November with the other versions. Stop blaming Nintendo for this because even if Wii U was more powerful than PS4, 3rd party publishers would still give Wii U owners the middle finger. Now go ahead and call me a Nintendo fanboy just because I don’t agree with your nonsense.

          • Ducked

I’m not defending Namco, but it’s about the money. A game like Project Cars sells much better on PS4 and Xbox One. It was pretty scum of Namco to ditch Wii U port to speed up the PS4 and Xbox One.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

No use being rationalizing about it. It’s damage control no matter how you word it to them. Lol.

          • D.M.T

“It pays to be level-headed”. That’s funny because you’re far from level-headed. You’re full of shit and everyone with a brain knows it.

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Says the guy who can’t go a comment without a curse word. I’m full of shit, because you know it’s true, despite the denial. Have a good one, DMT.

          • D.M.T

What are you 10 years old? Who cares if i comment with or without curse words? And I have no reason to prove you correct because you’re never correct. You’re just an ignoramus pretending to be levelheaded.

          • Ducked

It’s like talking about politics to toddlers

          • Daniel Gonzalez

I think a toddler would understand politics than the crazies on here.

          • D.M.T

I agree but now they will make even less money because a lot of people will not care about the Wii U version anymore by the time it’s released. Their decision to delay the Wii U version was just dumb.

          • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

If you choose to work with the Wii U then you should expect to actually optimize your game on it, not have the mindset you can just copy and paste a game onto it.

      • Jonathan Robitaille

Pikmin 3 for years…DKTF for a couple months because they were woefully unprepared and needed to fill the spring calendar. DK was done. This doesn’t appear to be the same as the game isn’t finished.

    • HorizonChaser

I secretly think Project Cars for Wii U will be canceled. Unless it was so close to completion that they cannot do anything but cut their losses by finishing it & releasing it, we probably won’t ever see it. I also suspect Namco Bandai.

I have to suspect that Namco Bandai saw the sales of MK8 and thought, “Hmmm, Nintendo’s racing game is selling well and making the console sell well. We have a racing game. We don’t want to compete with their racing game and not sell. Let’s delay launch so we’re not competing.” Well, you’d always be competing. You would have been like Veronica to Archie’s Betty. Well, now you’re just the one who showed up too late to the party.
I like racing games. I prefer them over other genres. I only own a Wii U & have no plans on getting another current gen console. Guess What? I wanted Project Cars for Wii U because I like an authentic experience over a cartoon one. I also thought there may be DLC later for this one (new tracks/maps and new cars). Disregarding all that I went ahead and ordered MK8 based on this news. I’ll download the new Mercedes for it. I’ll be getting MK8 instead of Project Cars. I feel abandoned and betrayed by Namco Bandai.
If they want my money in 2015, they better have a very great, very compelling reason for me to “double dip”. You hear that NB? Incentivize me or else accept the Luigi Death Stare!

      • bistricky

The big problem with cancelling (or the big surprise delay) the Wii U edition of Project CARS is that it was “crowd-funded” (the 18th biggest crowd-funded project).

As one report correctly stated “For the people who crowd-funded the game… it’s THEIR money, it would make sense that they get a say in their choice of platform release.
However, the decision superseded the voice of gamers, and Bandai Namco will move ahead with their plans to delay the Wii U version of Project CARS.”

If there ever was a revolt by the Wii U community, it may be starting now.

        Source: http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Project-CARS-Delayed-2015-Wii-U-65191.html

        • HorizonChaser

Thanks for that link. Good information. Maybe, due to crowd funding, it won’t be canceled by Namco Bandai.

But they should still give greater incentive to Wii U owners to purchase it after the delay.

    • SnappyJon

      “Alien colonial marines”

      Lucky escape.

      • abe

Sega had some idea about “saving the game” with the delayed wii u port in a similar manor to Ninja Gaiden 3 and Deus Ex but the press was so bad (it still sold well) they decided it wasn’t possible and let it die

    • Dark Lord Sauron

be glad we didnt get alien colonial marines that game was $hit

  • JFizDaWiz

I don’t mind delays as long as they are using that time to add to the game to make the gamepad more than a just a bug controller but delays are gonna hurt the Wii U. Might as well call this thing the Dreamcast 2……I still love you WiiU

  • David

Nothing out of the ordinary here.

  • WiiUisgaming

That is why WiiU is loosing support. Delayed a game in one console and less people will buy that version

    • matthew garcia

This is starting to become laughable

      • Ken Seymour

Agreed, then they will say it sold the worst…Why isn’t Nintendo doing something about this. Pull a Microsoft and say “either simultaneous release or not at all.” I didn’t plan on getting in the first place, but when this and watch dogs sells horribly on the Wii U, I don’t want to here it’s because of lack of install base or Nintendo fans don’t buy games other than Nintendo games, because it is B.S.

        • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

I don’t think Nintendo is in a position to do that. Most developers don’t want to even touch the Wii U because the PS and MS brand is more favorable to them. So they can give ultimatums but I doubt it’ll get results.

          • Dark Lord Sauron

that makes these 3rd party devs lazy and dont take risks

    • http://facebook.com/validgraphics val berger

Not sure why anyone here is surprised. I said it’s going to be delayed and now it is. It’s just a logical step from a business standpoint. There might be arguments for a simultanious release but in the end, WiiU’s Gamepad optimization will always demand developers for some extra work plus the WiiU isn’t really famous for it’s perfect target audience for this kind of game.
Sure, a racing sim might stand out more on a WiiU than it’s going to stand out on a PS4/XB1/PC. BUT in the end it’s going to sell more units there no matter when it’s going to ship on the WiiU.
The only Nintendo-port that really got delayed against all logic was Rayman. This game had the perfect audience on the WiiU, the WiiU version was able to be called the superior version over all competing systems. So this really sucked, even though it actually got released all along with all other competitors. Still this was pure marketingbullshit as there was no extra work in Gamepad-stuff but just putting it on hold until the other versions would be ready.
But with Watchdogs and Project Cars I can totally understand why that happened. I can’t really understand how any Nintendo-fan can’t be happy that these games aren’t cancelled but JUST delayed? Be thankful goddammit. You guys are getting the greatest 1st partygames and even some decent 3rd party ones. Doesn’t matter if I have to wait a bit longer, haven’t even played through W101, WWHD or even ZombiU by now, so it’s not like there’s nothing to do on that console.

Stop your whining and be grateful for every dev who still supports the WiiU somehow. I understand that some people can’t really understand that Nintendo hasn’t really built the perfect infrastructure to make it easy for devs to port games from the PS4/XB1 over to WiiU, but even in your perfect Nintendo-centric world, it should at least be good news that this game is even considered to be released on the WiiU. How many pure racing sims have there been on Nintendosystems? Yeah. Right.

      • JB

I actually agree. I think what some fail to understand is that yea, Wii U was the lead platform, but so was the PC. Since there’s pretty much hardware parity between the PC/XO/PS4, it’s easier to port to the other console platforms than it is Wii U. I’m guessing that’s why we aren’t seeing this game on the 7th Gen consoles.

If the extra development time that’s needed is the reason they are delaying the U version, then I’d rather have that and a polished game, than to have a subpar experience just to meet a release window.

        • http://facebook.com/validgraphics val berger

yeah plus when their financial/market analysts decided to go down that road, they where just thinking about which market would profit the most from an earlier release. Of course the x86-architecture-market. On the WiiU the amount of users buying that game on Day1 might not even be comparable to that audience it’s being released for now. And especially the WiiU users apart from those pissed communities might not mind too much what’s going on, many of em might not even know what game we are talking about right now and buy that game when they see it in the shelves or the eShop.
Maybe it’s not exactly like that, but many fans are always acting like they’d resemble the whole audience, claiming it would have been a seller, if that game would’ve being released on time but now it’s not because they are pissed. It’s just not like things work and I guess the decision makers are aware of that.

      • Rinslowe

I don’t really buy that excuse this time round. Sure it makes sense, when it makes sense. This time it just doesn’t.
Bandai Namco arrive on the scene and suddenly the game is delayed? Gamepad optimisation you say? Ok, lets look a that a little closer. Does this really look like optimisation issues to you? It shouldn’t. If true and the gamepad is the defining factor “here”. Then it’s more like there exists as of today, some genuine gamepad setbacks that are nigh on game breaking. Not optimisation. What you’re describing has a finite window on solutions. Not an unknown, unspecified time of release in 2015. Lets be honest here, it’s not optimisation at all. The game has been in development on Wii U for some time. Now we’re just hearing about gamepad integration issues? Or more like people assuming “gamepad integration issues”.
Either Bandai stumbled on to a huge disappointment and advised more time for the Wii U build. Or S.M.S’s have been blowing smoke up everyone’s ass.
Looks more like calculated release to some known, but unknown time in the future where both parties believe they’ll get the best result for the install base. Only releasing late only causes the opposite to happen. It’s not about being angry, although I don’t blame Wii U only owners that are. It’s more about how the whole thing loses steam naturally due to releasing late. And for whatever reason against logic, it just will lose steam by the time it releases. We all know it will…

People shouldn’t be grateful for this last minute type of vague excuse for delay. Absolutely they should be disappointed and vocal.

        • http://facebook.com/validgraphics val berger

Gamepad integration issues, target audience, architecture. I don’t really mind anything they said ages ago about wiiu being a lead platform. everything they said so far was pure marketingbullshit which I still totally understand, but don’t really mind either. The facts for any WiiU port like this are still kinda straight. Integration, Architecture, Audience. WiiU 3rd party ports will always have to conquer at least 2 of three challenges to succeed somehow.
Sony might not have sold so many more units than the WiiU until now, but it’s architecture makes it more easy to be developed along X1 and PC so if I would have to choose if I’d develop my multimillion$-AAA Racing Sim for a Nintendoplatform without any momentum, audience and additional technical demands or to develop it for the architecture of the 3 most common platforms to play racingsims on, covering an audience that might be about 10 times bigger, I might not think too long about what to do here.

What many fans here can’t understand is, that games today are huge financial risks. Look at Murdered: Soul Suspect. By receiving the first ratings of that game, that studio immediately closed its doors. Studios can’t just support a system just because they *LIKE* it. It has to throw profits and the WiiU just WON’T! And sorry, but I’m getting sick of telling that, WiiU won’t ever be the platform to go for games like these. I’m just glad to be able to play stuff like Most Wanted U or Watchdogs on my Nintendo Console, I don’t care anymore when it comes. If they would do something like this with a Sonic-game, it would be different, but guess what? Nintendo has a partnership with Sega to ensure, WiiU is the platform to go for Sonic-fans. Just like Sony for instance makes a partnership with Ubisoft to get some exclusive contents in games like Watchdogs. Every company goes for the partnership that would just make sense considering their audience. Nintendo is trying to break more into the mature audience with exclusives like Bayonetta 2, but I actually don’t believe it will be a very successful game. It won’t flop like W101 because it has it’s fanbase, but the lack of the proper audience will hold this title back from being a real seller.
What the WiiU would’ve needed 2 years ago was Nintendo holding onto their partnerships with all those 3rd parties instead of dropping it right after the system’s launch. With teh WiiU’s launch, users noticed that there’s a Nintendo system that even has games like Mass Effect 3. They weren’t interested in that game, but the main perception was there. EA sold like nothing of that example game so it was obvious they wouldn’t go deeper there but as Nintendo got these devs to at least bring stuff like that out at launch, they should have ensured a working flow of further releases just throughout the first year. This would have created some momentum and could have encouraged studios to get WiiU versions ready along other systems. But as this flow completely got broken just 3 or 4 months after the system’s release, devs just didn’t feel to comfortable supporting that system, especially because it really, I mean REALLY, looked very bad back in these days and no one would’ve been surprised if Nintendo would’ve declared the WiiU as a fail and moved on to a next system. So it’s no wonder we don’t see too many games being released for the system these days. Devs can’t afford to just ‘TRUST’ in the system gaining momentum some day. They need proof, otherwise they have some bad strategy going on and are likely running into danger of making some mistake that could end their existence. And a studio like Slightly Mad who hadn’t even a publisher for their game until recently might see a huge risk in supporting a system like the WiiU where you just can’t say how it’s going to work out within the upcoming 2 years. On the other hand, there’s no reason to really doubt the success of the PS4. It might be slower than in the past, but it’s quite of a sure thing.

As for the delays affecting sales, sure, they do, but except Rayman Legends I still understand them as it doesn’t really change too much except of the fan’s frustration, which is of course a good point but might not change anything regarding that game’s sales. There have been some games being released simultaneously which still didn’t sell.

I know, it looks like I’m covering those bad 3rd party devs and don’t like Nintendo. Truth is, I like both of them. I just hate it how Nintendo’s mistakes in terms of their whole failed 3rd party policy is always being interpreted as devs being ‘lazy’. that’s bullshit. They just can’t afford to throw money out of the window. Not with production costs like these. And the WiiU has plenty of windows to close before a 3rd party dev will feel like investing here, so yes, I am grateful about everyone who still supports that, because like most Nintendosystems since the N64 it’s once again a system to play 1st party games and be happy if there’s a nice 3rd party game coming. And Project Cars still looks like a nice 3rd party game to me.

Sorry for that endless text, every time I should be working, these manifests of comments are just happening by accident ;)

          • Rinslowe

I agree with just about every thing you’ve written. And also can believe third parties to be acting based on whats best for them overall. No issues with that at all. In fact. Who can blame them really right?
What I was responding to mostly was in the comments made towards the consumer. This is where we may see things a little differently. Even though it makes perfect sense for companies to do whats in their best interests “overall”. Someone or some demographic always ends up with the short end of the stick.
In this case. That ‘s both parties regarding the Wii U platform imo. Sales will tank. Simply because it’s late. It’ll lose steam. Naturally. I would love to be wrong about that. But until it doesn’t end up that way. I’ll continue to assume that, that is the most likely outcome.
You know, even though we can emphasize with these companies and their economic difficulties in today’s industry, it still holds true this means little to the Wii U owner that receives a late to market product, no doubt at full price and what is only at this point in time a “promise” of game enhancing gamepad integration’s.
We seem to also agree though, that their current PR speak is just that. Of course they’re now working hard to ensure their revenue performers are looked after first before returning to the Wii U version.
Again, this decision means what? To Wii U owners? So yeah, I think most people upset about this have a good reason to be. Especially considering it was the first console version announced and in development. It also received decent support from platform owners from the start…
            Just sayin.

Oh and I hope it didn’t seem as though I was implying you’re a hater of some kind. That wasn’t the message at all.

          • http://facebook.com/validgraphics val berger

no didn’t really think you would.
to keep short things short, what you’re basically saying is, that from a wiiu-consumer’s standpoint it just sucks and I gotta agree on that. And OK, I’m not sure why people are surprised but of course I can understand frustration about these things keeping on happening.

One reason why I actually was expecting this was because SMS never really gave us anything to believe a WiiU version even exists, except some quotes that could have been written by any marketing-guy who never saw the actual game. No screenshots, no videos, nothing to convince me. And if they had planned to bring it out in November, they should have shown us anything months ago.

Still, after so many cancellations, I’m just glad it’s *just* delayed as I had expected them to not develop it for WiiU at all for mentioned reasons. I’m also surprised Watchdogs hasn’t been cancelled already as this won’t sell either. Although, maybe in the case of WD, it’s some kind of tool for Ubisoft to measure if things have gotten better so far. So it might not sell well, but compared to recent releases, if it’s just selling bad and not superbad, they might consider giving that system another chance in a year.

  • Hikingguy

I won’t be buying it on any other version.
One really has to hope that the developers are being truthful about the extra time it takes to add special Gamepad features.
I wonder if Nintendo knew that by going forward with the Gamepad their games would be delayed?

    • abe

Did you notice it wasn’t the devs talking, it was Namco Bandai. The devs have been rather open about their operations and now the Wii u version is delayed and they have gone quite… This sounds more like a business move by namco bandai

      • Hikingguy

When I originally read it I did not make that connection. But as you say it, coming from Bandai Namco it is kind of strange. Doesn’t Bandai Namco have a pretty good working relationship with Nintendo at the moment?
In the current atmosphere it seems like a strange move if your goal was to attract a large audience from Nintendo. An audience who has not seen a racing game like this in years.
I am not sure the end game strategy with all these companies doing this. But I am sure it may not be good for Nintendo and it owners. Unless they really do come out with a superior version.

        • TalesOfBS

Namco never had a good relationship with Nintendo. Look at the games they release on Nintendo Platforms, they are 95% cheap shovelware made in a month.
Right now you can compare their 3DSxVita releases and see it: Their Vita games, most of the time exclusives, gets like 3 times more development work, even when after most of the time they end up selling less than half of what they could have sold on 3DS.

Namco never gave Nintendo consoles any actual support, they only use them to release quick cash games. Stuff that usually makes consumers not want to get them again, sometimes hurting even the console/handheld reputation for that consumer.

          • Hikingguy

Aren’t they working together on Smash Bros with Nintendo?

          • TalesOfBS

Nintend is paying them to help the Team Sora develop the game.

      • Jonathan Robitaille

they didn’t have to allow it. It makes them look stupid to say all those nice things about the Wii U all along and allow this..publishers are chosen. They chose poorly

        • Hikingguy

Isn’t Bandai Namco working with Nintendo on Smash Brothers? How long will people stay mad? I don’t think for very long. Maybe we will see if Nintendo has any pull to get things moving faster. That is if Nintendo thinks this game is any good.

    • Jonathan Robitaille

they had to. Just like with the Wii and motion controls. They do things their way and don’t care. Hard to be too mad when their 1st party games are so good. But as a consumer you almost have to accept you aren’t going to get 3rd party games because of it.

      • Hikingguy

That is very true. I know some people get mad about it, but Nintendo owners really should know by now that Nintendo walks to their own beat. Most of the time they do ok and sometimes they win big.

  • CupOswaG

So glad I sold my wii u and ps4. I also have legit reasons too. 1. I’m tired of waiting for delayed games. 2. I’m tired of shooters. 3. this generation is loosing quality and quantity. 4. this generations also hyping up everything we see (im not gona lie I even hyped up games like watchdogs…..it was crappy to decent game if u like stealth shooters). 5. I now have money to race my real car XD just installed new parts to my car. 6. Not that im hating, but I also don’t have an abundance of time like most of u do to play decent games. and this not a reason but I just wish all the great Nintendo games had come at launch so that maybe,.. just maybe I would have changed my mind about this generation.. but sadly no. Gl to all who have these consoles, hope u guys only get good quality games. X)

    • David John Gifford

but you have so much time to come and read these articles about games

  • cool1706

*sigh* another game I want delayed, can anything go right for Nintendo?

  • Nintenjoe82

Let’s all flood the Miiverse with our disappointment. Nothing cruel, just make sure Namco know we were looking forward to this one.

Namco have quite a few Miiverse pages but I bet the Wii U Pacman one the fewest other posts in the way.

    • matthew garcia

How could Wii u go from being lead console for this game during development, then all of a sudden last place

      • Nintenjoe82

I’d imagine this happened: As independents they were probably treating each version equally and then Namco picked up the publishing rights and insisted they sideline the Wii U version because they either couldn’t finish all versions in time for a lucrative holiday or they’re just pulling the version completely because Namco lost so much on all their Wii U games….

        • abe

I fear it’s the second one, as I can’t see it making a lot of money on PS4/X1 as it has rivals in the form of exclusives and multiplatform racing games let alone the usual end of year rush… Where as the Wii u version only has to go up against MK8 which is vary different type of game

          • Nintenjoe82

I have slight hope because it isn’t EA that took the publishing rights. I think this game will sell well on PC because it’s the best looking driving game and the majority of high-end PC gamers do seem to go for the games with the best graphics….

      • TheAnimal Fleming

Sonic boom devils third skylanders disney infinity dreamfall chapters and other Indies games

      • TalesOfBS

        Namco.

  • TheAnimal Fleming

Man that’s sucks wii u has no others games coming out this year

    • Squirrel09

except for all those other games coming out this year…
      The Squirrel has spoken

      • matthew garcia

A majority of the games are 2015 releases. Can smash bros, hyrule warriors, and bayonetta hold Wii u over for the rest of the year?

        • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

Smash is like the one game you can play for months, hell years. I still play Brawl from time to time clocked in so many hours on single player alone not even including online and multiplayer matches

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Not for a long period of time, no.

        • gerb1977

Captain Toad, Sonic Boom, Pac-Man and potentially Watch Dogs as well between September and end of December. Probably a Just Dance 2015 but I haven’t looked into it. That is still a small list of retail games though compared to the amount of annual franchises releasing on the other consoles.

    • Dark Lord Sauron

umm u forgetting hyrule warriors, bayonetta 2 that comes with the first game, smash bros, advance warfare/its a possibility, sonic boom and few others as well

      • TheAnimal Fleming

        Being sarcastic

  • abe

Why delay just the Wii u version? The other versions have to compete against exclusive racers (Forza Horizon 2 and Drive Club) and multiplatform racer The Crew. Let alone the usually year end games rush

Anyone else suspious this is come from namco and both the very vocal devs?

    • Mr Ninty

indeed its strange, lets put Mystery Inc. on the case

    • TalesOfBS

Suspicious? Of course it was Namco. Slightly Mad said many times they were working hard on the Wii U version.

  • ZeldaFan83

Delays happen…its just a part of the world. There are a ton of good games coming out this year that it won’t be too bad. I’d rather have the best version on Wii U than an under par version released with PS4 and Xbox One.

    • TalesOfBS

The thing is: The Wii U is NOT going to be the best version. Never. SMS was working to give them all parity. Then Namco got in and told them screw the Wii U version, go work on PS4 and Xbone versions.

  • Ducked

    Wii Delay U

    • RecheDiazrivarola

its Delaystation 4 and WII no third support U

      • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

XBOX can any ONE trust us again?

        • Kaleb

          Not in your Dreamcast

          • Lily AJ Page

It’s a shame the game was delayed, I was looking forward to taking a Mega Drive in that game.

          • Magnus Eriksson

Lol. Wii are making puns here 64/SEGA and 360 around the clock I see.

  • Krzysztof

So from all of these platforms (apart from PC) Wii U version has been in development for the longest and now it’s delayed? So far I’ve already skipped Rayman legends and Watchdogs for Wii U (cancelled preorder) so I guess I’ll be skipping this one two and get it for my PC like I did with the other ones. In fact, apart from BO2 I bought ALL of my 3rd party games for my PC, purely because they’ve been either half-assed ports or delayed. And trust me, I really wanted to get all of these titles on my Wii U, but I won’t be treated like second class customer! So here’s my big, fat F#%?$ YOU, to all devs bitching about how games on the Wii U don’t sell.

    • matthew garcia

I was gonna get it on ps4 anyway cuz of the analog triggers. I’ll be getting hyrule warriors though

    • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

But aren’t you proving them right by buying it elsewhere. They don’t care what version you buy, as long as you buy. They’re still making money off you regardless. So it’s really not a big FU to them at all

      • nf_zeta

well at least on PC you can get it dirt cheap on steam so its still putting down potential profits though because its digital it didn’t cost them anything.

        • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

Still a half-assed attempt to boy-cott if you ask me.
What if Rosa Parks and others involved in the freedom movement decided to only take the bus on Sundays? Makes no sense. You can’t fight the system if you give in.You vote with your money. Either buy the game or not at all, just don’t pretend you’re standing up to them when you do.

          • nf_zeta

i agree, i’m just putting forward a possibility i see often for people who can’t resist.

Me personally i go the full boy-cott road, for instance i haven’t purchased an EA game in ages, heck i even only got BF3 when it was being given away and ended up not even playing it much.

However one thing you have to also realize though is that the amount of coordinated effort it would take to get enough people to boycott a game say on the other consoles and then buy the late released higher priced Wii U version is quite a stretch.

Basically the sad truth being that while my boycott of certain games is another +1 in the big pool it still won’t really change the minds of companies, which in turn leads to too many people just caving.

So in the end i just believe if we can combine the full boycott people with the cave but buy extra cheap people AND the vocal gamers to the company itself the result would be sufficient for a big impact on a company, while being a more realistic method.

    • Jacob Bulkley

I understand not wanting the lesser/half complete versions but not buying it for Wii U doesn’t help us either. Us Wii U owners seem to be stuck in a catch 22, don’t support 3rd party and they stop bringing games, support them and get half the content. You should still buy Rayman for your Wii U in my opinion.

  • Lil J Moore

This is just another day for the WiiU

  • Ducked

It looks like I’ll be buying on PS4

    • D.M.T

I have a PS4 and I still won’t buy Project CARS for PS4. I much rather buy DriveClub

      • Ducked

        Good point. Probably better.

      • matthew garcia

Forgot about that one. Yeah your right. Playstation already has gran turismo, drive club, and now project cars. Not sure if I would choose project cars over the others

        • Hikingguy

Those systems already have establish brands that sell well. You would think that Nintendo would be starving for a game like this.
Something has to be going on behind the scenes that we are not privy too.
Project Cars will have to bring something totally unique to the table to stand out. It would have stood out on the Wii U just because.

    • Keith

Patience is a virtue you quack. It’s Ppl like you who bitch & complain about the Wii U being unsuccessful but goes out & purchase’s other console’s cause your freakin impatient. If you honestly believe that 1st releases are better then why don’t you soley stick with your PS2? There’s plenty of game’s on it to pretty much last you a lifetime. Ohhh that’s right….cause later console releases are extremely better & more finely tuned. You want the best experience?? Wait for the Wii U versions ;-)

      • Ducked

What exactly makes the Wii U version better? That it’s graphically worse looking than the PS4? There’s no exclusive Gamepad features to interest me. I’ll just be buying DriveClub now which looks better. Sheesh, no need to get angry.

  • Saul Rivera

Thus the fruits of Namco Bandai is already beginning to show =_=

    • TalesOfBS

      That is Namco for you.

  • au8277

Please understand…shuffling resources and saving development $ as we wait for an increased install base…

  • palomino blue

    son of a…

  • Hibern81

I guess I’ll be picking up another first party Wii U game instead. Hard to support third party when they simply refuse to release their games in a timely matter. I thought Nintendo and namco had a better rapport than this. For shame…

  • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

You know what…I ain’t even mad. I just don’t care anymore. 3rd parties give us the middle finger all the time so I’ll throw it right back. I’m not buying from any company that does this kinda thing. Was gonna rant, but what’s the point?
They never learn. They delay games on one platform and wonders why their sales suck. Multiplats have to release at the same time in order for all versions to do well.Last one is a rotten egg. Your sales being the egg. Your not giving the WiiU a fighting chance for good sales. They made sure the PS4 and XBOX ONE get theirs even though the PC and Wii U was way before those.

  • darkcreap

    Ouch!!!

  • gamingpalooza

    what the hell

  • Sdudyoy

Disappointing, I’m still getting the Wii U version, but this really is unacceptable.

    • Keith

See….a true & loyal Nintendo fan. Bout dang time. Now if we ALL could only follow his example….

  • gamingpalooza

This is pissing me off… games being delayed… for no reason at all… just because the developer/publisher “is afraid its not going to sell” on Wii U? Ridiculous. EA and Rockstar started that crap. Then all of a sudden everyone else is doing it. If I was Nintendo… buy out Capcom… create your own sports division… create your own “mature” gaming division.. leave EA and all the other losers in the dust.

    • David John Gifford

we can hope ive come to conclussion yuo delay the game you dont get my money stuff thme all

    • leo

      they would wipe the floor

    • Dark Lord Sauron

blame namco on this one not the dev

  • Justin Carlson

According to the poll on the CARS site, most people want it on the Wii U. Very few want it on Xbox One. So why delay the one that has the most interest?

My guess is that the gamepad specific development got sidelined in order to get the game ready for holiday 2014.

I wonder how the sales would be if all the OTHER versions were delayed and they focused on the Wii U version for this holiday.

    • abe

looking at the end of year releases I would of delayed the other two and released the Wii U for christmas. On the other systems its up against 2 exclusive racers and another Multi-format racer, on Wii U it has… Mario Kart 8 and that’s… quite different

  • Krzysztof

Oh wait. Let me predict the future … “We have no plans to release Project CARS 2 for Wii U … BSBSBS …. Wii U version didn’t sell as well as we expected”.

    Namco, here’s what I think …

  • koopapoopas

As long as it’s not cancelled, I won’t be too disappointed.

This fall, I might go broke anyways with a few announcements made at E3.

I also have a little bit of a backlog to work on.

If they are going to take some extra time to turn my touchpad into a fancy steering wheel, I can wait.

  • Andrew Clear

I am starting to think that a company like, say, Microsoft, is paying these publishers to hold back the Wii U versions, in an attempt to help the Xbox One overtake the Wii U.

    • TalesOfBS

Nope. Namco was always screwing up Nintendo in every way they could.
Slightly Mad was said many times that they were working hard to make Project Cars a reference for racing games on the Wii U. Now Namco just got in and “oh hey, lets screw up Nintendo again”.

  • Petri

This is the way to sell your game on the platform, it worked wonders with other games as well.

    Ubisofts excuse was bullcrap.
I bet Wii U version of watch dogs wont have much else than map on the gamepad, that is if the game is even coming anymore.

    • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

I don’t even care about WD anymore. Too many 1st party Nintendo games coming out. Smash Bros is getting my money. I’ll get it if it’s on sale other wise, screw em.

  • Vextrum

Today Slightly Mad made me slightly mad.

    • abe

except its namco delaying it, Slightly mad have been very positive about the Wii U version and despite being very open havent said anything about problems in development

  • JB

I’m just gonna drop this here and leave… ;-)

    • JB

Though seriously, it kind of sucks because Project Cars fills a hole that the U is sorely lacking, but it’s all a part of business… It could be a smart thing to wait until after the holiday season where the Wii U I feel is packed with quality games this fall going into the holiday season add the winter release of Smash, maybe the hope is to drive up the install base, so more people can pick it up in 2015 during a Wii U dry patch.

I know I’m picking it up for the Wii U, being that since it was originally the lead platform, it more than likely be the definitive version with unique Gamepad support.

      • Daniel Gonzalez

        It’s the year of delays.

        • JB

            He fits the description

          • 00EpicGamer00

He does indeed. Sorry for being off topic, but I did manage to play Dead Space (the first one). I played it for the very first time, last night. And let me just say….I was a little afraid to go to sleep, lol. Dead Space is the scariest game I’ve ever played. Holy crap! I didn’t expect it to be so intense. I thought it’d be like the current Resident Evil games. Boy, was I wrong. O.O

Thats the retail games I have and not counting downloads. That´s how dedicated WiiU fans are. I Was just about to book and prepay Project Cars as well when I got the news about the delay and decided to postpone booking it.
I have PS3 and Xbox 360 as well but is not very impressed with them because of their heating issues. Did not have any problems with my Wii even though it was on a lot. I don´t have any problems with my WiiU either. But I have two broken 360´s and a PS3 and 360 that turn hot in less than a half an hour. PS4 and Xbone isn´t going to be bought by me for a few years.

          • 00EpicGamer00

What does that have to do with what was being said? Daniel: “It’s the year of delays” he’s right, you know? There seems to be allot of game getting delayed this year. Heck, this whole generation is starting to feel like “the generation of delays.” That was the point of his post, not to know how dedicated Wii U fans are. Also, who in the heck cares about how many “Wii U” games you have? Also the “That’s how dedicated Wii U fans are” is completely subjective. You are the only person I’ve ever seen that’s purchased every game that’s come out for the Wii U. That’s not dedication my friend. It seems to me, that you’re trying to start something.

          • Morgan Mollwing

I have seen Daniel Gonzalez writing a lot about how bad the WiiU is and how good the PS4 is. He is talking a lot about how fast PS4 install base is growing but how many games do PS4 owners actually buy. And he is also, like a lot of other people saying that Nintendo fans isn´t buying third party games when a lot of the Nintendo fans actually do. We would actually do that even more if developers actually bothered to care about us and the ports that is released for WiiU and that the ports doesn´t get released gimped and after all other platforms.

          • 00EpicGamer00

He’s not exactly talking about the PS4 right now. And what difference does it make? If you’re annoyed by every comment he posts, you should either find a different news site, or just ignore him and move on. Calling him out on pointless things isn’t going to change anything. He has every right to be here, like “us.” Complaining about it is just a waste of time, in my opinion.

The only reason developers “don’t care about us” is because 3rd party games have never done well on a Nintendo platform. The only Nintendo console that I think had really good 3rd party support was the NES and SNES. Honestly, by this point, all of us Nintendo fans should just admit that Nintendo consoles are really only for 1st party. And 3rd party is like, something nice to have, and not really a necessity. If you want “good” 3rd party support, you’ll have to buy another console. That’s probably how it’s going to be from now, until the end of time.

          • Morgan Mollwing

Why should we give up on having better 3d party support? Why shoould we need to get a crappy console to get 3d party games when we have a great console. 360 and PS3 Console was like having a Ferrari with a big Engine that overheats and blows from time to time. Nice to brag about, but of no real use. Why do people keep complaining about WiiU´s lack of games when it isn´t true anymore. People doesn´t complain about XBOX One´s lack of sales and that PS4 an Xbone lacks good games even though they have 3d party support like they did when WiiU was the same age. That´s a double standard that I find really annoying. And by the way why would someone who doesn´t like WiiU be on e WiiU news site? Accept for to troll and annoy peaople.

      • great deku tree

there’s no way it’s a good move. the game was due to release in November which is around the time of SSB4 anyway so more wii u’s would have sold anyway. as well as SSB4 there’s hyrule warriors in september which will again increase wii u hardware sales. especially in Japan.
by the time the game releases on the wii u it’ll have dropped price significantly on the other consoles so anyybody who even sees the wii u version at full price then looks at the PS4 version a lot cheaper are obviously going to go for the PS4/XBONE version. unless they’re a dedicated Nintendo fan.
*sigh* this has made me mad. I was going to get this day 1. now……I might not even get it. If I do it won’t be for the wii u because I’m going to be getting a PS4 or XBONE around Christmas or early next year.

        • JB

And there’s the catch 22 Wii U owners and developers are in: they delay the Wii U version because of install base. Wii U owners feel slighted, so they either don’t get it all or get it for the competing platform. Low sales ensure and everyone wonders why. If you want to vote with your wallet, it’s better you just skip the game altogether and voice your concerns to the dev or prove the developer/publisher wrong and show your support for the Wii U version and get it. Buying it for the competing platform just proves the publisher right that the Wii U wasn’t a viable option.

          • abe

here here, same goes for buying it used as they dont know that resale happened so think even less people wanted it

          • SnappyJon

There’s plenty of ‘simmy’ racing games for the other consoles (or PC), so even though I’m not particularly happy the game has been delayed. I wouldn’t have bothered buying it for any other console anyway.

The downside for the publisher though, is that instead of me buying it on release, now I will get to see LOTS of reviews and gameplay videos of it before the Wii U version gets released. So it better be a good game, or I’ll just wait until it hits the bargain bin or not bother with it at all.

      • Dark Lord Sauron

look it this way we still got hyrule warriors coming in september, bayonetta 2/package with first one coming october, november possibly advance warfare/cant rule it out and december smash bros

        • JB

That’s why I’m not crushed by the delay. Oh and don’t forget Captain Toad! I’ll have Drive Club and Forza if I need my sim race fix. Even then, I’ll be busy with all those games you mentioned, plus the Wii U games I’ve yet to finish (not to mention a couple of PS4 and XO games) that I already have. I fully intend on not buying Project Cars for any other platform but the Wii U.

          • Dark Lord Sauron

same and i believe slightly mad studio will make sure the wii u version of project cars will end being a beautiful racing game

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Only slightly? I beg to differ. :P

      • JB

Obviously it was a play on the studio’s name, but yeah based on the angry comments it’s more than slightly. Lol

        • Daniel Gonzalez

Yeah, I know. Good gif, btw. :P

          • JB

I kind of figured you did! Oh and thanks :-)

    • oontz

      You win the internet today!

    • The Clockwork Being

      Oh gosh lol

I find this really funny. This game started out as a PC/WiiU game. The Wii U fans backed this up alot and really couldn’t wait to have this game. Then there was Slightly Mad talking about the Wii U version like it was the next Zelda game. Praising it, talking about the possibilities, praising the graphics, talking about the gamepad. Slightly Mad was investing alot of time in this game.

Then Namco comes up and says hey lets delay the Wii U version for no reason.

Watch tomorrow or soon enough we will getting a message from Namco saying they need to polish the game and put some work on the gamepad.

Delayed games? Welcome to 2014. It’s happening on all 3 consoles.

  • D.M.T

And then 3rd party publishers have the nerve to bitch and moan about their games not selling on Wii U. Fuck you Bandai Namco

    • Hikingguy

Isn’t Bandai Namco working with Nintendo on Smash Bros?
I guess Nintendo needs to watch their back.

      • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Namco’s devs are helping with Smash, not publishing Smash. Sakurai makes every decision with Smash Bros.

    • The Clockwork Being

Then by the time it comes out in April 2015 for Wii U, the others will be 35.99$ for PS4 and X1 and 59.99$ for Wii U. Then you could get it on Steam for like 4$ around the same time.

      • D.M.T

Who said it’s coming out in April 2015?

        • The Clockwork Being

I’m joking. Its semi reference to what happened to Mass Effect 3. By the time it was on Wii U, the trilogy was at the same price on other consoles.

    • Dark Lord Sauron

just like ubisoft who complains that their games aint selling on the wii u gee i wonder why(cough)delays(cough)

  • gamingpalooza

Just cancel the game and get it over with… SCREW YOU SLIGHTLY MAD.

    • D.M.T

Delaying the Wii U version was stupid but cancelling the Wii U version is retarded so no they shouldn’t cancel it.

      • URFTBOUND4LIFE .

They may have delayed this game but I can assure you I’ve canceled my interest in this game

    • TalesOfBS

Screw Namco. They are the ones behind this.

    • leo
  • gamingpalooza

Ya… how stupid is Slightly Mad? Xbox and PlayStation already has their fair share of racing games… Wii U does not have any realistic racing sims. You would figure that… “OH HEY… WE HAVE NO COMPETITION ON THIS CONSOLE… LETS RELEASE IT ON WII U” would be a smart move. Talk about.. dumb asses.

  • bistricky

WTF …… pure insanity. Wii U owners were backing this game by the hoards because this dev. was doing what others wouldn’t.

Everyone please WELCOME PROJECT CARS U …better known as WATCH DOGS 2.0

    NO Cheers :(

        Wii Depress U.

        • bistricky

…. And in other breaking news ….

ALL games for Wii U have been delayed until 2015 (except for any Lego or Just Dance games … which will have 17 in 2014 to fill the void).

…. Now we return you to the LeBron James announcement that he is leaving Miami to return the Cleveland Cavs. WTF?

          • Daniel Gonzalez

Haha. Well, LeBron loves the attention. I’m sure in a few years, he’ll make an announcement that he’s returning to Miami.

          • bistricky

Well we need something to fill the new open spot in the Wii U game release schedule (LOL LOL) …… what happened to SHAQ FU: A LEGEND REBORN?

            XD

          • Daniel Gonzalez

No clue. Lol. I think it will suffer the same fate as the original.

        • Keith

          Yawn

      • 00EpicGamer00

Oh my god. That picture makes me want to make a movie about the Wii U being lost and forgotten. Poor thing, lol.

  • gamerer72

This is very suspicious coming from Namco. They must think we’re idiots to believe their reasoning. As a Wii U owner, I refuse to be treated this way. I simply will not buy the game.

  • Adrian Brown

    The freaking Watch_Dogs effect :@

  • TalesOfBS

Namco got in just to fuck up Nintendo. AGAIN.

Look at their 3DS support. A pile of sh*tty shovelware games that are just hurting the console’s library quality. Don’t even need to talk about all the cr*p they dumped on both Wii and DS.

    • C4

      Doubt it’s namco’s fault.

  • Jonathan Robitaille

Well, a few ways to look at this. One. The Wii U requires more time,
effort, and work to achieve the results necessary to compete visually
with PS4/Xbone…so instead of rushing it out they are delaying. Two,
they have not been building this from the ground up for the Wii U..are
porting it over and it requires polish but no matter what they do the
end result will not be optimal and they have been paying Nintendo fans
lip service this whole time. Three. They are delaying it because they
realized that a straight port looks like crap and they..like Ubisoft
with Watchdogs…are not going to put in the effort so they are delaying
until next year when everyone who wants it will have already played it
on other systems and a shitty port on the Wii U won’t make news months
later so they are trying to sneak this through with as little
    ramifications as possible.

    Personally, it’s inexcusable that
they wouldn’t have prepared for this possibility. To those who claim
they’d rather have a completed optimized game, I say to you…get real.
Do you really think these extra months are going to be spent fixing the
Wii U version to make it on par with PS4? Not on your life. If they
cared in the first place they’d have dedicated the time on the Wii U
version already. Face it, they did a cost benefit analysis and decided
it wasn’t worth it. I can’t fault them any more than I fault WB for not
making Batman. Even if it came out on time it wouldn’t have sold well.
Are you kidding me? A 3rd party racer? Maybe a few hundred thousand.
Now? I’d be surprised if it sells 100k.

    I will not be purchasing
this one until it hits the bargain basement bin and ONLY if they’ve
optimized it (which I don’t believe it will), kinda how I waited to get
Rayman Legends for $6 after Ubi delayed.

    I won’t fault people
who won’t buy it at all now, I don’t agree with the apologists that will
surely say this is a good thing and I one hundred percent agree with
the detractors that say 3rd party is abandoning the Wii U. They are.
Delaying games for months after it releases on other platforms is akin
to abandonment. I was going to buy it day one to show support. I am not
that big of a racing fan. If I was…and had to have it, I’d get it on a
PS4. Nintendo had better be paying attention as the one 3rd party game
we could all point to is essentially no more. They are for all intents
and purposes on their own. So they better be thinking about churning out
more 1st party games and establishing more 2nd party relationships.

This is a bigger deal than I think people realize. Very bad day for Nintendo and the Wii U.

    sorry for the long post

    • greengecko007

I’m in the same boat. I was thinking about getting this because it would be nice to have a good racing simulator on the Wii U. Now, I have no intention of buying this game. 2015 already has other Wii U games I’d rather get. I’m also skeptical of how well this will sell anyways. Driveclub on the PS4 and Forza Horizon 2 on the Xbox One are coming out before this game, and in my opinion, look better. If I had a PS4 or Xbox One, I’d go with one of those games.

It’s a shame, because someone shared a poll just yesterday showing that Wii U owners were supposedly the most excited about the game.

      • abe

ubisofts the club his also hitting both x1 and PS4 the same month, it seems really bad planning to delay it on the one console that doesn’t have a direct competitor

    • Fiercedeitymelkor

It can’t comoete visually with ps4 and xbox one no matter what, but maybe they do need more time to at least get the 720p and 30fps more stable.

  • Rinslowe

Well, that’s not so good is it…
I honestly do not think I will be getting this game for Wii U in that case. Actually as I’m picking up an Xbox One later this year for the “Master Chief Collection”. I may vote with my wallet and enjoy Forza 5 and Horizon 2 instead.
As these delays are ridiculous. Absolutely. If I get the game at all. It will be PC only.
My honest guess. Seeing as though they have only shown PC footage genuinely, with one or two PS4 vids. I don’t think it’s really to do with the state of the Wii U build right now. Bandai Namco may just be hoping to wait for Smash and the increased user base potential before releasing…
This generation of consoles is 3 parts politics 1 part gaming. Sad.

And Nintendo, if you’re accepting this rubbish. Well, you can’t be accepting this rubbish. Get your fckn house in order! Just sayin.

    • Hikingguy

Nintendo needs to flex its muscle. They are a big player and can compete.

      • leo

big player with a small brain

  • allvalve

To put a positive spin on things, since the PS3 and 360 versions were dropped it would mean that the engine will be semi custom for the Wii U rather than a dirty port with slightly better effects.
Having said that, by the time it releases the initial hype regarding the title will have gone, and will probably fall well short of the numbers needed to make it a success.
Same with Watchdogs, although I suspect that it may be a ploy on UBIsofts part, so they can say “I told you so, our games don’t sell on the Wii U” It’s a classic self fulfilling prophecy.

    • leo

      haha me too bro

  • Rich Garriques

unbelievable see this is why they dont get support for wii u versions , they delay the game all the f ing time!!! :@ while other versions get sold im seriously done with 3rd party devs i feel like they do this on purpose.

  • Hikingguy

We all should know better by now.

  • Will.F. Martinez

i’ll still be getting this for the wiiu either way, but this is why sells looked bad in the first place. like what happen with most wiiu launch sells most of those games were already release on other console so by the time it made it on the wiiu most already had it. watchdog and project car might go thru a low sells because alot of people will already have it on there other console already. this is starting to become ridicules.

  • Peter Parker

I’m really disappointed with this decision, I will eventually get it since there aren’t any other racing sims on the Wii U, but I’m mad nevertheless…

  • great deku tree

This has really made me mad. I was going to get this day 1 for the wii u but now? I may not even get it at all. if I do then it’ll be for the PS4 or XBONE which I’ll be getting either sometime around Christmas or early next year.

  • Gabe Hoffman

Yes the delay sucks but honestly I feel this game will have a tough time even on PS4 and X1 since it will be competing with Forza, Driveclub, The Crew, and Gran Turismo. Don’t be angry at the developer be angry at the publisher since it was mostly Namco’s doing

    • Fiercedeitymelkor

Namco is just distributing it. Also gran turismo is not coming out this year and project cars is the only sim coming out this year.

      • abe

Driveclub is a sim, Forza horrizon runs on the Forza SIM engine (but due to the game style isnt really the same)

        • Fiercedeitymelkor

Driveclub isn’t a sim actually. It’s an arcade racer.

  • anthony optimo

Might be a PC buy now.

    • Fiercedeitymelkor

Why would you get this on wii u if you have a pc capable of playing it lol?

      • anthony optimo

I like Nintendo for setting strict quality control standards on their products. Unlike other developers Nintendo will delay games if bugs and glitches are discovered.

Slightly Mad Studios seems to have adopted some form of quality control, that’s why I would get this on the Wii U.

        • Fiercedeitymelkor

It would be the same game except better on pc. Wii u has no wheel support either.

  • Jason

I think the real reason is that another Namco-Bandai game, Super Smash Bros 4, is going to be released in November/December, and they know Wii U owners would buy that over C.A.R.S, so they’re delaying it so the game won’t be ignored.

  • Trevor

This seems to be a problem across all platforms. This seems to be a generation of delays.

    • FutureFox

More so for the Wii U.

  • Lusunup

    Watch dogs all over agian….

  • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

This is bullshit. What the fuck happened? The Wii U version is the MAIN CONSOLE VERSION yet it gets delayed? But the ports on the Xbox One and PS4 is not delayed? The Wii U version is the most wanted by gamers and it gets delayed? What the actual fuck.

  • Gabe Hoffman

Don’t be mad at the developer be mad at the publishers don’t be afraid to go on Facebook and Twitter to voice your displeasure

  • Hikingguy

It is kind of ironic that the poll on Project Cars website has the Wii U as the version most people are likely to buy.

    • Zuxs13

That will change real soon now.

      • Hikingguy

        That is too bad.
On the Wii U they had virtually zero competition in the driving sim market. On the other systems they will have established brands that have loyal fan bases and now their potential fan base is a fractured group of people. We will see how this impacts sales.
Considering the history of the game it was a very strange move on their part. I have a feeling politics got in the way of this one.

  • Gameonfool

Damn I was gonna put his on my Christmas list.

    • Peter Parker

Same dude, I was already asking for this as a gift.

  • 00EpicGamer00

What exactly is the reasoning for the delay? To “perfect” it more? Didn’t someone say they worked on the Wii U version first? If so, how much time do these people need!? It’s just a racing game for crying out loud! What exactly needs to be perfected!? The graphics!?

Also, I don’t really understand how Ubisoft delayed the Wii U version of Watch Dogs, for such a long time. Their excuse is “gamepad features.” But I thought with Rayman Legends, they would of learned how to program things to the gamepad, and how to make it work. So, honestly their excuse is just…bad. Unless they’re actually doing something big with it.

  • jhell

    same old shit

  • Daniel Carvalho

    I’ve had enough!

    https://www.change.org/petitions/third-party-game-developers-show-respect-towards-nintendo-gamers

“Dear Third Party companies, as consumers who decided to acquire Nintendo products, we demand to be treated with the same respect you show to consumers from other brands. We have suffered from lack of Third Party support ever since the N64 era – although it was more due to Nintendo’s policies fault, time have changed, and even though they are doing what they can to get your support, and gamers are eagerly waiting for that, you still decide to punish us with your jokes that you call ‘support’.

We have been without your support on the N64, arguably on the GCN, certainly on Wii and DEFINITELY on Wii U as of now. And the ones who lose with that are not only gamers and Nintendo, but YOU as well! There are many gamers out there who cannot afford two consoles per generation, or by whatever reason decide to choose only one, and that may very well be a profitable market that you just ignore! We will buy your games, as long as you do a proper job of delivering them to us!

As consumers, we demand respect! The very same respect you show to consumers from other brands! As long as you respect us, we will respect you, and we will consume your products!”

    • bistricky

      I have signed it.
      More should.
And get posting their feelings about all this on Slightly Mad’s website / twitter etc.

It may not change the delay but the Wii U community should be heard.

      Cheers to you. :)

      • Daniel Carvalho

Thanks for the support. It’s really hard starting a petition knowing companies don’t give a dam about it, but we’re not talking about Tales of Symphonia or Final Fantasy XV on the Wii U, rather respect that third party developers don’t have for us ever since the N64! Since this is a more general campaign, I believe we’ll get more supporters than any other campaign has ever gotten so far!

And let’s be frank here: slapping developers in the face with a petition with hundreds of thousands of signatures telling them to do their job properly, otherwise they won’t get our money, seems to be the only way to make them stop those stupid policies with Nintendo home consoles, delivering half-assed ports that lack DLC, Multiplayer, textures yet are sold at full price!

        • bistricky

Send your petition to other gaming websites /// heck, to news websites. Maybe one will pick up on it.

    • 00EpicGamer00

I have signed. Though, 14 supporters isn’t enough. Make sure you share this petition everywhere you go.

  • Alejandro A

Whatever the reason, Slightly Mad needs to make an official Statement.

Releasing some footage and actual gameplay with the gamepad would do good to restore some confidence as well.

According to a poll on their website, the Wii U version had the highest voters for the platform gamers were getting the game for.

    http://www.projectcarsgame.com/home/which-platform-are-you-getting-project-cars-on

  • DC777

Well I think this happening for the 50th time make it painfully obvious the Microsoft and/or Sony have deals with these publishers that aren’t just for what they call “parity”. But perhaps these deals also insist that they will release _____ months before the Nintendo version. Shady shit, but take your game and shove it up your asses.

    • FutureFox

I think your right. Highly suspicious at this point. The last games I can think of that was released on time was maybe CoD:Ghosts and AC4.

    • FutureFox

However, I just did a search and realized SSMB for Wii U is being assisted by Bandai Namco. So maybe, just maybe, the culprit for some of these delays is Nintendo themselves.

I just read a post in the forums section and someone stated how this delay pretty forces them to get SSMB, against his original plan on getting PCARS and SSMB later (and potentially never). So it could very well be Nintendo simply looking after the interests of their key title sellers during their planned release date.

      • Alan Michael Hensley

All Bandai Namco is doing is publishing the game and distributing the game, there is no real reason why the game should be delayed on the Wii U, especially considering the Wii U version has been in development longer than PS4 and Xbox one versions.

        • FutureFox

As publisher they have control over the game which includes putting it back in development mode for either the devs themselves to work on and/or provide their own dev resources into the game (since they too are developers afterall). It is completely within their power to do this.

This whole delay the Wii U thing is quite different than years prior when games were released simultaneously.

Watch_Dogs and now this will be the test to see what sort of extra quality the delays have provided. If the games don’t look or play noticeably better, Wii U owners will absolutely explode.

  • leo

wow really?!?! This is sinister and horrible! Again with this delayed bullshit excuse! Im TIRED OF THIS SHIT! We need to tell them guys! I don’t know about you but here’s there twitter page -https://twitter.com/slightlymadteam have fun.

Project cars for Wii u has been in development longer than the Ps4 And Xbox one if an versions should be delayed it is there’s.

  • https://soundcloud.com/rauschenmaschine Kristian Kouvo

That does it, am getting the PS4 version in November. So far I was on the edge which version am gonna get. You do know that Wii U is more silent running (nice and elegant thing IMHO) than PS4 (sounds like a vacuum cleaner when working hard) and comparing the trailers didn’t show much of a difference in graphics – but now it’s a no brainer; PS4 version it is. This is also bad for Wii U marketing and future (again) *sigh*. How many wants that game anymore when it’s already basically old in year 2015. Not a Wii U system seller then, eh.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_CARS

    • oontz

“comparing the trailers didn’t show much of a difference in graphics”

Where is there a ps4 or a wiiu trailer? I have only ever seen PC trailers.

      • https://soundcloud.com/rauschenmaschine Kristian Kouvo
        • oontz

regardless of the fact that one video was gameplay and the other was a CGI trailer. There is a difference between them visually. The first video looks much better than the second.

          • FutureFox

Maybe Namco has ways to better implement reflections, textures, etc for the Wii U version prompting the delay. Its certainly playable.

What these companies aren’t getting though is that people just want to play games by the agreed upon date. Could you imagine if Blu-ray movies and music were done in the same manner if you had a different hardware manufacturer’s product?

    • Commander Jim

There’s something wrong with your PS4 if its that loud. Mine has always been totally silent.

  • GABRIEL GARCIA

    ” greatness awaits ”

  • C.S. Bailey

I don’t buy that many realistic racing games, so I can afford to wait until the Wii U version comes out.

  • fireheartis1

The delay sucks really bad, but we’re going to have plenty of games to feel that space until it is released. I’m going to wait until the Wii U release because I know it’s going to be epic. Until then I’ll be playing me some Hyrule Warriors and Smash while I wait.

    • Peter Parker

Yeah, and I don’t have any other platform to get the game, so this wait realky sucks… But well, we will still get Watch Dogs and Captain Toad by the end of the year

  • steveb944

F¥¢$ING Namco! I’ll still buy upon release because this WAS my biggest Fall release game for me. Damn publishers.

  • thedeciderU

probably not going to buy it anyways. who needs this when we have the letter?

  • Petri

For some reason words “bargain” and “bin” comes to mind.
Though it’s not like a game like this can get spoiled if delayed a month or two.
At least Wii U owners can see if the game has something, or if hype is the only thing going for it, like with Watch Dogs.
They just better not bitch about low sales.

  • Ihsman

It looks as if Nintendo are being targeted by the major software companies. Would it benefit Sony, Microsoft and these software companies if Nintendo were to stop making consoles?? I am not sure, just curious. All I know is that I love the games Nintendo produce and I will always support their software and hardware.

    • Shootdatrupee!…

No, Sony’s gaming division respects Nintendo and has openly admitted several times that Nintendo’s presence is nothing but beneficial for the industry. Microsoft…I have no idea. As for the other software developers…no idea either. Most of them probably won’t care too much despite what they may say, since developing for Nintendo consoles has been harder than other consoles(since the Wii) and they don’t sell nearly as well.

  • Ihsman

Oh well, I am happy with the awesome games coming up for the Wii U. Just have to be patient. No one make games like the big N.
Now it is time for Nintendo to make a serious racing game.

  • Scott IsMe

Is there a possibility for a class action lawsuit? There has to be some legal recourse for using funds in other than marketed ways, and that’s what they’ve done here: used funds solicited for the production of a Wii U game to develop an xbox/playstaion game… False advertising at the very least.

  • SolarShane13

Nintendo should just put up a sign titled “No Third Parties Allowed” on their next console and see the hilarious reaction. They’ll all be scrambling to get access to the Nintendo console.

  • Jonathan Robitaille

certainly sounds like it was a dev decision. Also sounds like they’ve been makign a PC version and went to port it over and had no problems with PS4one but Wii U requires probably building from ground. Essentially all their Wii U talk was lip service. Could be up to a year delay. They might as well cancel it. It’s shocking how very little talent and work ethic is in the industry these days. Seems like they all rely on these ‘next gen’ engines to do most of the work for them.

    • Jonathan Robitaille

      ..

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/oldenvye6432 oldenvye6432

I’m not convinced the game has even started development – I say we demand Wii U footage or if they don’t we take it as proof it doesn’t exist.

  • http://www.mpt-online.eu/ Sylux

yay more delays awesome……not. Anyway if it was any other game I would pick it up on another platform. Then once again we’ll get the infamous question why it didn’t sell well on Wii U… Perhaps because the game comes 3-5 months to late compared to other platforms? That would be me on any other game. But this game is the only game so far I’ll wait for to pick it up on Wii U. So yes, I’ll wait till 2015 in this case.

  • Decker Shado

    Here’s a fun one.

I went on the Project CARS facebook page, and joined in the choir asking for equal treatment.

I am now banned from the Project CARS facebook page.

I am certain I am not the only one, so… yeah. Not looking much better for them. This has pretty much solidified now that no, I am never getting this game, and will likely be avoiding all Slightly Mad games in the future just as I’m doing with Ubisoft now.

But hell, at least Ubi didn’t ban me from their page.

    • james

Can’t have equal treatment when the Wii U is a less powerful console than the Xbone and PS4. There is no grand conspiracy by these companies against Nintendo like so many on here seem to want to believe. Wii U needs its own development because it can’t handle the game as run on the other consoles. So instead of spending more money they delay it until the others are finished. Can’t blame them since spending more money on a Wii U version will get you no return as sales will be extremely low unless it has Mario, Smash, or Zelda in the title.

  • Zuxs13

Might be reassuring if they actually showed us some game footage or something to get excited about for the wii u version. Basically its non-existent at this point so might as well pick it up on PC.

  • beez1717

How about they delay everyone else for once…
