Today Nintendo announced the return of Captain Falcon to Super Smash Bros., as well as two new characters from the Fire Emblem series joining the roster. Aside from that however, in Sakurai’s daily Miiverse post in the Super Smash Bros. community, he posted a screenshot of Ubisoft’s Rayman and stated that Ubisoft’s designers offered Nintendo a unique character model for the character to be included in the game.
This is a surprise considering the support the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS have been getting from Ubisoft as of late, as Watch Dogs is still delayed with no release date in site and several of Ubisoft’s upcoming games like Assassin’s Creed are skipping the Wii U this fall. Here’s what Sakurai had to say about the inclusion of Rayman as a trophy in Super Smash Bros.
“In order to make Rayman’s trophy, we asked Ubisoft to share their references. We were expecting to receive 2D drawing references for Rayman, but to our surprise, they sent us data of a brand new 3D model that they rendered for this game!! And that was how this trophy was created. It takes a lot of work creating each model, so it’s wonderful that the creators contributed their own efforts!!”
That was nice of Ubisoft to save the team a bit of work and provide a unique model. What do you think of the inclusion of Rayman as a trophy? Do you think he fits the game and deserved to be included? Let us know in the comments!
