Super Smash Bros. controller and adapter available for pre-order

smash-bros-controller

If you’re looking forward to playing Super Smash Bros. on a GameCube controller, you’ll be happy to know that the Wii U adapter and the official Super Smash Bros. controller for the Wii U are now available for pre-order from Amazon. The controllers are listed as releasing on December 31, 2014, but this is the usual date chosen for items that don’t have a solid release date yet.

We expect there will be a release date for these once the game has a concrete release date. Amazon also has a deal for purchasing the game, adapter, and the new controller for only $109 should you want to get all three. Amazon also offers guaranteed delivery by release date, so you don’t have to worry about pre-ordering the game and not having it available on the day it is released.

The official controller for the game is only $29.99. If you already have GameCube controllers you want to use with your Wii U, the official GameCube Controller adapter is only $19.99. Of course, the Super Smash Bros. game can be pre-ordered for $59.99.

Thanks Derek!

      :-)

    • Lorrell

How much is shipping? Free shipping with Amazon, so it could end up being the same cost.

      • Gammalad

$0.00 when you go in and pick it up from your local GameStop…

        • Lorrell

Yeah, but now you’re talking gas money, time to get there….#smalltownproblems.

  • Clel

Hm, I recall that the deal for the bundle was $100 at gamestop. $109 isn’t a deal, if you do basic math it comes out to the same :O

    Sexy controller doe.

    • greengecko007

Saving $1 with that Amazon bundle… Such a good deal!!!

      • Clel

        Do you mean $9?

        • greengecko007

The controller is $30, the adapter $20, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be $60. 30+20+60=110.

Amazon is selling all 3 bundled for $109. That’s a saving rate of $1.

          • Clel

            Nooo, 109 minus 100 = 9
You look very stupid right now

          • greengecko007

Um, I’ve stated several times that I’m talking about the Amazon bundle, which is $109, not the Gamestop bundle, which is $100. Because the price of all the items together is $110, You save $10 by going with the Gamestop bundle, but you only save $1 with the Amazon bundle. My point has been that for a “bundle” $1 in savings is pretty pathetic.

  • fireheartis1

Gammalad is right GameStop has a way better deal.

  • mojack411

Oh sweet, I was under the impression earlier that the adapter and new controller were one and the same, which would’ve meant I would have to buy new controllers. But now I can just buy adapters.

    • rp17

Adapters? You know the adapter has all four controller ports. You should only need one unless you have multiple Wii Us.

      • mojack411

        EVEN BETTER!

  • Ducked

All these years, and I thought I was the only one who liked the Gamecube controller.

      • FlashFan207

        Seconded!

    • matthew garcia

It’s the best Nintendo controller ever in my opinion

      • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Before the Gamepad came out I would agree with you.

        • matthew garcia

I agree the gamepad has a technical advantage with the touchscreen but the overall feel of the GameCube controller plus it had analog triggers makes it a more universal controller that can adapt to any game. The Wii controller doesn’t feel right with every game

          • Daniel Gonzalez

            Agreed.

          • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

The Gamecube is the best controller for Smash Bros. As for the Wii Mote, It’s the best damn controller for Zelda and Metroid and hell even FPS games lol.

  • palomino blue

Time for some Wavebird action on my Wii U.

  • bistricky

There is also ….. these Officially Licenced GameCube-Like controllers …. which connect directly to your Wii Remote. Available November 14th 2014.
    :D

    • Froakiefan8

      They look fantastic!!
Is there a price estimated for these?

    • rp17

But these are “wired wireless” controllers. That means it’s the worst of both worlds. “Competitives” won’t use these as going through the Wii remote could mean input lag and/or wireless interference. And people who would use wireless, like completely wireless controllers, not controllers tethered to the Wii Remote. The Gamecube adapter or a Wii U Pro controller are both better respectively. The only advantage these have are the designs… and the price.

      • bistricky

I think I am going to add these three for my Wii U. If they have input lag (as you suggest they might) I will return them … but if they work fine for family gaming, I think they the best choice ….. they look amazing.
        :D

        • rp17

Oh input lag likely won’t be a problem, unless you are a pro smasher that counts every frame of an attack :P. And even then it’s more a problem at tourneys where there lots of wireless devices to interfere with them. I’m sure they will be fine at home.

Long story short, I meant competive wannabees will be like “wireless=bad.” Whereas, some casuals will be like “I love wireless, but I’m still tied to the Wii remote! :(“

          • bistricky

Yeah … I’m picking up what your throwing down.
I have no goal (nor skill) to be a “pro smasher” ….. just to have a lot of laughs with friends.
            Cheers :D

      • kopaka7

We also don’t know if they’ll have the same feel and responsiveness as Nintendo original controllers. I bought a PDP Pro Controller and it feels a bit off from the GamePad triggers and D-pad.

    • http://gameknights-uk.blogspot.co.uk/ abe

if these was in fact Wii U pro pads i’d buy these but really their classic pads that attach to Wii Motes. Outside of smash and (hopefully) Gamecube VC i dont see me using them because they are missing things for modern games eg they have only 3 shoulder buttons

      • bistricky

Here is the changes to them …. compared to the original GameCube controller:

Instead of a single Start button in the middle, there are +, -, and Home buttons. The single Z button has been replaced two L and R shoulder buttons, while the old L and R triggers are now ZL and ZR triggers.

In a sense, it is a fusion of GameCube and Wii U controls.

        :D

        • http://gameknights-uk.blogspot.co.uk/ abe

That’s great, still a shame that it attaches to Wiimote

          • bistricky

Yeah …. I agree …. although I like these three better being connected to the Wii Remote, then having to connect it to an adapter on the Wii U. A little more freedom.

    • Shota

These ones where on e3 they shined so beautifully :D

  • YiyeUniverseMB

Not sure why they don’t do a wireless version that becomes wired via USB like XBox One… Pro Controller battery lasts 80 hours.

    • Squid

Because the Wii U doesn’t have enough space to hold your flash drives, and game cube USB. Having it full connected is the best way to play anyways.

      • steveb944

Yes it does, it has USB ports in the front and rear. If you need that much extra storage a hard drive is best.

  • FlashFan207

The GameCube adapter is just plain awesome!! Finally!

  • Daniel Carvalho

I still wish the controller was Wireless! I mean, I know there’s the Wavebird thing, but I mean a Gamecube controller made for the Wii U, with the Home, + and _ buttons, maybe even a ZL button as well.

  • Squid

I can get the controllers later, so I have money for other games. I still have the silver game cube remotes

  • Denvy

That’s not really a “deal” for all three at $109. That’s just the price of all three together.

  • Sdudyoy

If anyone here has used these, can they tell me if the feel the same as the old GC controllers?

    • bistricky

I don’t think anyone has, since it hasn’t been released yet ….. unless they showcased it at E3 or Comic-Con?

      • Sdudyoy

It was what was used for the demos for Smash bros, at least at E3, but I’m not sure about Comic-Con,

        • bistricky

Interesting …. I wonder if Ashley or others from Wii U Daily had a chance to use them?

    • http://gameknights-uk.blogspot.co.uk/ abe

We talking about the ones with the adapter or the ones that plug in to Wiimote? The adapter ones ARE classic GameCube controllers moulds. The attachment ones no one knows yet but they look slightly different and I suspect they are made of the same plastic as the Wiimote

  • Jackson five

I’d get the controller to use with my gamecube as well ( I only have a wavebird ) . But I like how the ssb symbol is on it.

    • Sdudyoy

Yeah, that’s what I’m going to do, I still have four GC controllers, but one is a cheap knock off, and the other doesn’t work well.

      • Jackson five

Yeah I use to have the purple gc but had to sell it years ago when I moved to a different state, and that next Xmas my bro got me the platinum gc bundled with double dash, and way down the road I gave my silver controller to my nephew for his b-day cause he needed a controller and I couldn’t afford one at the time. But I’ve held on to my wavebird. Kinda wish I kept my silver controller tho…

  • steveb944

I can save a whole 97¢ with the bundle! Nice!

I preordered mine and paid off now i just wait..Hurry Nintendo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Joel Cruz

never pre-ordered a game.I reserved super smash bros wiiu at target but didnt for 3DS.Does anyone know a good website or place?

  • Arkamarky

I just hope the cable is longer then that XD

  • companyoflosers

See i have no problem learning to use the pro controller for the new smash game. It seems really light and comfortable. I used some drivers i found online and a bluetooth dongle to connect it to my pc and emulated melee and it felt just fine. I feel like its an awful waste of money to get the adapter just because people dont want to learn a very easy to use controller. As for pro gamers, they should know by now that adaptability and versatility are an asset and.i fail to see how a pro gamer who uses a pro controller would be at a disadvantage against someone using a gamecube controller. Its a great controller i just think its time has come and gone. Its time to embrace something new.

  • Osiris11235

I hope that one of the cables is just for power and that I can use ANOTHER adaptor to plug it into a power strip. I’d rather plug this into the back of my Wii U, which already has one port allocated to my external HDD.

  • Star and Moon

While I do wish they’d make a Gamecube style pro-controller, I really like that I only have to buy one more GC controller to have a set of four instead of four Pro Controllers.

And of course, my one more GC controller is going to be the Smash Logo one. Cheers!

  • Capt. Smoker

Give me Gamecube games Nintendo, then and only then, will I buy.

  • Fuzunga

I thought there was supposed to be an actual official bundle for the game and controller.
