Call of Duty: Black Ops II receives new map 2 years after release

black-ops-2

Despite being released on the Wii U two years ago, Treyarch have updated Call of Duty: Black Ops II to include the Nuketown 2025 map. Wii U fans can now enjoy the map and may soon be able to enjoy Die Rise, as that as popped up within the game’s menus but hasn’t been added yet. Kudos to Activision for supporting Black Ops II this long after release, even as Wii U owners have probably moved on from the game to playing Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Will you be playing Nuketown 2025 this weekend? Let us know in the comments.

Heh, irony, I just started playing this game again after like a years worth hiatus, I guess this makes me a happy camper.

    • Random_Player

      “Camper”

    • Michael Legault

Yeah, my wife normally doesn’t let cod in the house unless salted and smoked. But she showed up one day with blops 2 saying it was only $10… Still wish bf, even 3 was on wii u :P

      • Petri

Bf 3 could be good, BF 4 not so much, not even going to bother with the next one they have coming.

  • Random_Player

I don’t really understand why this was released at all. I consider this game to signify the downfall of the Call of Duty series in general. It’s completely awful in every regard, especially in comparison to the previous COD’s that were actually good. Releasing this, two years after the game’s release when we were supposed to get it alongside every other platform just feels like trolling.

    • Ducked

It’s better than MWF3 and the original black ops IMO.

      • Random_Player

I’d take MW3 or the original BO over this game any day. The issues with lag, spawning, and pick 10 system are deplorable. Not to mention the ease with sniping and long barreled shotgun and camping.

    • EmperorIng1268

      because Zombies.. that’s why

    • Noteak

It was actually very smart of them to finally do it, if you own the game and play it frequently you would have seen that the amount of players have doubled since this announcment.

  • BTheKing

Is this a sign that Activision still supports nintendo and we’ll get Advanced Warfare?

    • matthew garcia

If Wii u is not even getting a ps3 and 360 port of the new assassins creed I doubt they get a new call of duty

      • ShortyStock

        The sad truth.

      • HavokPants

        thats ubisoft ,this is activision

        • matthew garcia

Ubisoft has showed the most support for Nintendo and Activision has not

          • Petri

Actually about the same, only that Activision hasn’t had Wii U exclusive.
Ubisoft has pulled more dick moves though.

          • matthew garcia

What all has Activision released on Wii u besides call of duty?

          • nexxus6

            Skylanders,to name one succuessful series.

          • Petri

With quick search, I found 16 Activision games, 14 Ubisoft games.
Both released some no name games, and their yearly rehashes,
both refuses to bring their big next new games for the console.

          • matthew garcia

Ubisoft has at least attempted a exclusive

          • Petri

Well, yes, thats all you can call Zombi U, an attempt.
But I have beaten that horse dead already.

          • nexxus6

ZombiU was a great game, in my humble opinion.

          • Petri

Yes, just because a game is low budget poorly QA’d, does not mean it can’t be fun.
I did enjoy it even with all its shortcomings.

          • nexxus6

Lets not forget it was a launch title, so imperfections were expected. However, I didn’t run into any problems while playing and I think it is still one of the best WiiU titles on the market.

          • Jeffery02

It was, but it could have really used more support. Online multiplayer, new multiplayer modes, campaign dlc, a sequel, and anything really. We got patches, but no new content. The problem with ZombiU was that it had so much potential, it was a great concept, and a lot of fun, but it ended so quickly. There just wasn’t enough content. I think a sequel would do really well, especially given the larger Wii U community now.

          • Rinslowe

It even came back ironically enough. Then I beat it dead permanently. Zombie horses. Never a dull moment.
            Wouldn’t complain with a sequel…

          • matthew garcia

That’s cool will just call it even lol

          • Petri

            Could say that.
Sure can’t claim any winners from any of them.

          • matthew garcia

You sure can’t. Not for the wii u atleast

          • Petri

I always thought it was rather sad that best games on PS3 was third party games.
Though it had some awesome exclusives, from time to time, I wished we had first party games that could be titled legendary.
Major reason why I was about to go PC only for this generation.

          • tom

            True!

          • matthew garcia

I see more Ubisoft games on Wii u

          • Bob Charlie

Ubisoft likes to tell us that they supported the Wii U, but all they really did is just support the Wii U a little more than other third parties did. Zombi U and Rayman Legends, we know how Rayman turned out, were the only new games that they focused on the Wii U with, everything else was multi-plat and could be found on the 360 and PS3. As soon as they shifted their development to PS4 and XB1 Ubisoft moved on from Wii U.
I doubt we even see Watch_Dogs for Wii U.

          • matthew garcia

Yeah I know Ubisoft hasn’t been all that great but they have showed the most. It’s like people you have to be willing to help yourself before you get the support of others. Nintendo needs to be willing to help themselves first. Nintendo acts like they have no faith in Wii u. They show this by hardly even showing people the system exist. It’s not selling that great and Nintendo is hardly doing anything about it. How do you expect 3rd parties to throw there full support into that

          • Bob Charlie

By creating a crossover game like Hyrule Warriors, or making a game specifically for Nintendo fans with one or more of their franchises. Releasing games that play and are supported better on 360 or PS3 isn’t how you win over a Wii U owner.

          • matthew garcia

Like I said Nintendo needs to help themselves out first. They need to try harder to sell there own system

          • nexxus6

That wouldn’t change anything. They already have more systems out compared to the Xbone, but receive less support. So this kind of goes against what you are saying.

          • matthew garcia

Well Wii u has been out a year longer. Nintendo didn’t do very good job on Wii u since the beginning. It had it’s launch titles which weren’t that great and kept having game droughts for months at a time. Nintendo did it to themselves

          • nexxus6

The twins (PS4 and Xbone) have had their droughts and had weaker launch lineups, so I am not seeing your point here. You can’t excuse the other systems for the same problem but hold Nintendo over the coals. I am not saying Nintendo did everything perfect, because we all know they didn’t. However, I don’t feel it is fair to solely blame them for the lack of third party support.

          • matthew garcia

Ps4 and Xbox have no droughts they been getting games every month it’s just happens to be the games your not into. Mario kart was the last game for Wii u and how long do we have to wait for the next one

          • nexxus6

That’s funny because the big knock on the PS4 and Xbone has been a lack of quality software and games. The same problem that people beat the WiiU up about. I am not saying the WiiU hasn’t had droughts, because they have. However, lets not kid ourselves, the other two systems have been plagued by the same problem.

          • nexxus6

            http://www.ign.com/blogs/ryanaj13/2014/06/14/why-you-shouldnt-be-worried-about-the-lack-of-games-on-our-new-consoles

Sounds like it is a pretty well accepted view that all consoles are suffering from lack of games.

          • matthew garcia

No there lacking exclusives doesn’t mean there lacking games. Destiny in September Dragon age in October. There getting games every month. Mario kart was in like June and u have to wait all the way til September for hyrule warriors cuz there is no 3rd party to fill the gap

          • nexxus6

You are talking about games that haven’t come out yet. Nintendo is getting games every month starting in September, too. So, this does nothing to disprove the fact that all systems have struggled to pump out software. Again, you hold Nintendo to different standards. Don’t forget about all the games released on the e-shop. Anyway, I just think you choose not to see the problems the other systems have had because it fails to support your “Nintendo dug their own grave” argument.

          • matthew garcia

Ps4 and Xbox definitely have there own problems but ps4 is selling like ps2 at this moment which is excellent for them but they are getting more games. You have remember there getting rpgs,.1st person shooters, 3rd person shooters, sports games like Madden and fifa. There gonna offer a much bigger variety. There also getting project cars ahead of Wii u

          • nexxus6

I never said they weren’t getting more third party support or that PS4 wasn’t selling better than WiiU. I am stating that the lack of third party support is not entirely Nintendo’s fault. EA never offered the support promised, many companies produced delayed, incomplete versions of games, and some companies aren’t even supporting the 3DS. So there is more to just sales that play in to this problem. In my opinion, I think a lot of developers want to see Nintendo fail, because they are less likely to kiss their backsides.

          • matthew garcia

It’s all based on business. I’m sure the big business men of those 3rd party companies no more then we do and everything is for a reason. There was an article on ign a couple of days ago that said Nintendo s management was in turmoil so I’m sure there is a lot going on behind closed doors

          • Rinslowe

This is just Sony apologist bulsht. Plain and simple. Every article you’re repeating the same old sht. It doesn’t matter how many people get suckered into taking you seriously and replying with unbiased logical reasoning based factual insights to the topic. You come right back to the very same thing in every article. I have no idea why you console loving fanboy crusaders exist. But you do…

          • Ducked

Dragon age was delayed to 2015

          • matthew garcia

Just read it was delayed to November 18 from October 7 so that’s not to bad

          • Ducked

            Oh, not bad at all.

          • matthew garcia

Yeah I don’t know if I could handle another 2015 delay from any console lol

          • Ducked

Yeah I agree haha. Battlefield, Batman, Uncharted, Evolve, are just a few to name. Also no FFXV this year. 2014 seems real gloomy.

          • matthew garcia

Yeah ps4 had the order pushed back and Wii u had x and project cars

          • Ducked

Yep those too. Delays seem more common in the last two years. Pikmin, Wonderful 101, and Rayman legends were suppose to be wii u launch titles that were delayed to the fall. Infamous second son and DriveClub we’re suppose to be ps4 launch games that were delayed to 2014. And DK tropical freeze was suppose to be out in November and was delayed to feb 2014. All we get instead is definitive games that we already played a year ago. Not to forget watch dogs delay from November 2013 to May 2014. Sheesh lol.

          • 00EpicGamer00

Mario Kart released in May, actually.

          • nexxus6

The sales are better than they were. Still selling better than the Xbone. I didn’t know Nintendo had to hold everyone’s hand to the sales floor. If we are strictly talking about sales and the number of units in the public’s hands, then Xbone should be getting the scraps.

          • matthew garcia

So are you saying Nintendo should do nothing to sale there own system. Yeah Xbox is crap to me also but call of duty and assassins creed will sale better on Xbox even with there lower install base. Xbox has been out a year later so I will give them that excuse for now

          • nexxus6

I am not saying that Nintendo shouldn’t advertise their system. However, third parties aren’t complaining about “advertising” when they announce lack of WiiU support. Instead, they talk about install base, which is illogical since the WiiU base is larger than Xbone. All this tells me is that the lack of support isn’t solely based on sales and install base. These third party titles selling better on other systems is a whole different animal, and out of Nintendo’s direct control.

          • matthew garcia

It was in Nintendo’s control they had all the 3rd parties on snes and lost them and since then there imaged changes to the kiddie console cuz they did nothing to change it back. It stuck with them and now they have to live with it

          • nexxus6

That is such a generic excuse. The whole “kiddie” console fallback excuse is pretty tiresome and over played.

          • matthew garcia

It’s just how it is. Nintendo did nothing to help themselves so now all there fans just buy nothing but there 1st party games which a majoriy see as kiddie games. I like Nintendo games but Nintendo put themselves in this position

          • nexxus6

Well, I guess we can agree to disagree. Your argument has shifted from sales back to the “kiddie” console defense. Maybe if third parties launched games of equal caliber to those on other systems, sales would be better for those titles.

          • matthew garcia

Sales go hand and hand with kiddie image

          • nexxus6

So, does Xbone have a kiddie image then???

          • matthew garcia

No they have a bad policy image that they keep changing from drm to the Kinect they been constantly changing. That’s there problem

          • nexxus6

So, it is safe to assume that WiiU sales could be impacted by factors other than the so-called “kiddie” image. You did say “sales go hand and hand with kiddie image” but the Xbone sales are impacted by something else. Thus, sales are impacted by a variety of factors, even though you see the WiiU as a “kiddie” system. How do you account for third parties not supporting the 3DS?

          • matthew garcia

I never said I see the console as a kiddie system. I guess Nintendo did themselves no favors by making the GameCube look like a kids purple lunchbox lol but I’m just saying that’s how a majority of the gaming public see them and it does them no favors. Also the 3ds has great 3rd party support. Nintendo’s handhelds always have cuz of lack of competition and great sales

          • JB

I’m late to this party, but here’s my two cents: I feel like the term “kiddie” is more of internet meme going around more than anything else. If having a kiddie image was the case, most of their first party games wouldn’t be as huge of sellers as they are in spite of install base. I don’t think Nintendo has ever had a problem with a kiddie image more than it does them living in their own bubble. They’ve had “Mature” games. Resident Evil, Perfect Dark, Conker, Killer Instinct, Golden Eye, Geist, Eternal Darkness, Metal Gear Solid.. ect ect… Heck even Twilight Princess carried a T rating. OoT I felt was a pretty mature game as well, and both of those are Nintendo’s IPs

Here’s the problem as I see it. They were king in the (S)NES days. Since Ninty near the end of the SNES era really had no competition, I believe they didn’t think they had anything to worry about. Then came the fallout with Sony and the Playstation was born. Third parties started moving on, mainly because Nintendo was still doing their own thing, be it non standard control schemes, proprietary formats (i.e. sticking to ROM carts, mini discs ect…) they weren’t maintaining parity with where the industry was moving. Not to mention that during the N64 era, they were still heavy handed as far as licencing and they treated 3rd parties like crap, in which they are still paying for today, as they still lack adequate support, so most people went to where the games were.

So now because of decades of abysmal third party support, it’s all the sudden morphed into this story, “Bigger install base or GTFO” While gamers are like, “give us a quality game to buy that’s NOT gimped” all the while Nintendo for a minute was there twiddling their thumbs and and not advertising expecting people to buy the system based on the success of the Wii.

          • JB

I’m going to copy and past what I said to Matthew to you, as to what happened with Nintendo. :-)

Honestly. This guy has gone from bad to worse. He’s literally repeating the same thing over and over. No matter the replies provided to him from earnest posters, no matter the article topic, the day, the month or probably even the year. 2015 will have the guy saying the same thing. Do yourself a favour and just ignore the guy. Seriously. There are other people here that are willing and capable to have genuine discussions on the topic. People that don’t have their heads up Sony, Nintendo’s or MS’ ass. Like this obvious console warrior a-hole.

          • D.M.T

Ubisoft is no longer Wii U’s biggest supporter.

        • T-X

We still need Destiny. The PS3 is getting it, Wii U version would be epic.

      • BTheKing

Also Call Of Duty is a HUGE franchise. Even bigger than AC. I think that as long as Activision is supporting the 360, they can make an easy port to the wii u and even if it sells bad, they make money

      • Dark Lord Sauron

u got the wrong company dude and by the way activision tends to bring cod to nintendo console so with the wii u sales doing pretty well theres a chance advance warfare will come to the wii u

      • FaTih

        Wii U isnt getting ACR.

Ubisoft has supported the Wii U most, so I think no AW…

      • FaTih

Well Treyarch makes every year a CoD game for Nintendo home consoles so why not ?

    • Ducked

Most websites are listing advanced warfare on Wii U, so it wouldn’t surprise me.

      • matthew garcia

If Nintendo does get it do you think it will perform more on par with 360 and ps3 or ps4 and Xbox one?

        • Ducked

I’m sure more to the ps3 and 360. I don’t think they’re going to go out of there way to push the Wii u version closer to ps4 and Xbox one.

          • Stuart O’Quin

I wish they would. They might even move a few units if people didn’t totally feel like they were playing last gen. Spice the graphics up even a little to narrow the gap (Wii U is more powerful than last-gen, BTW) and do something cool – even gimmicky – with the game pad, and they have a unique experience.

Wii U owners are a crowd that specifically seeks out quality games from Nintendo at the expense of variety. We want to see some individualized effort put into our ports/exclusives. We generally don’t reward tossing meager scraps our way.

          • Ducked

I’m sure many wii u owners would. But that’s the bad thing about being the gap of last gen and current gen, it gives third parties the choice to put more effort into a game to make it look more next gen, or go the cheap route and give it the last gen.

Can’t really say anything about the Gamepad, because Nintendo themselves have done little with it.

          • Merry_Blind

I don’t play CoD, but I’ve read Activision actually did a great job making use of the Wii U’s unique capabilities. I think in BO2, you can play 2 players locally with one person on the TV and the other on the GamePad. Also, you can play using a Wiimote+Nunchuk.

          • Rinslowe

BO2 was a decent port all things considered and having the gamepad as a separate screen in local multiplayer was a nice inclusion. Even though I admittedly only ever used it once. The touch screen was used adequately you could say otherwise, but nothing really special happened there.
All things considered it was a stable port. With the small exception of one particular part of the game – first mission. During the escape through the jungle, there was some noticeable drops in framerate.

          • Rinslowe

Well said. That question of course was loaded and generalised to holy heaven or just plain stupid…
Naturally unless ol Ninty starts playin the game, Activision will have no incentives to make the Wii U version optimised to suit the hardware. It’ll be like the other 2 versions, pretty much a straight port dump of the 360 version, with as much specialised work as reflects the budget afforded to it.

  • ShortyStock

I played this game for like a year, with a copy in which only online worked. And It stopped working completely last week… just my luck.

  • tom

Wow i have not played this game in over a year, i kinda forgot about it!

  • Ducked

It’s really late, but I’ll take it! I’ve noticed the community has grown more on BLOPS2. Die Rise is one my favorite zombies maps.

  • ChrisCamp

    #sadlarious

  • nexxus6

Baby steps in the right direction.

    • ChrisCamp

There are two types of people in this world: Those who like Neil Diamond, and those who don’t. My ex-wife loves him.

      • CydeFxt

Baby step on the bus….baby step on the bus.

    • ChrisCamp

Oh I’m sorry, are we not starting a “What about Bob?!” quote thread here?

    • Rinslowe

This is great news. I haven’t played Black Ops 2 for ages. Have the first one on PS3 and the main series games on PC mostly. But yeah, time to get good ol black ops 2 out of semi retirement and get to it.

  • Joecoo1

That is awesome, maybe now a new zombie map as well like Alcatraz. I like B02 way more than Ghost and a lot more people play on B02 on Wii U than ghost.:)

    • nin-10-doughfan

as they say, better late than never!

    • wiiucompl

True. More players are online in BO2 I think (in Poland I can see sometimes ~50 matches) For Ghosts it’s ~24-39 matches.

And I dont care if new map is after 2 years… When people discover the old good music … it is still good music. Even if discovered years after the premiere.

This further demonstrates that the Wii U is more stable platform … if it was not – the Treyarch would not have to strain to add new DLC …

Anyway – good news. Nice map.

  • thedeciderU

this is sad, but i do play, so i’m happy to have a new map. and ghosts is just awful in comparison.

    • CydeFxt

I mean, is it REALLY sad? Granted it’s late lol, but sad?

      • thedeciderU

sad that it took this long

        • CydeFxt

Don’t get me wrong, i agree that it’s kind of….ridiculous that it took this long. Maybe I don’t want to see it as a negative. I mean at first i too was surprised that this was announced and felt like it was sad….but i mean it’s not bad news,

          • thedeciderU

yeah i’m not upset over some more content, that’s for sure!

    • FaTih

Yeah and compared to free fall is N2025 a better map.

  • Jake

I bet Activision will later complain: No Wii U owners supported their updates, thus no more games

  • darkcreap

Oh great, so maybe next year I will get new maps for Call of Duty: Ghosts? Thanks Activision, so nice of you!!!

  • Nick_Steel

Wow! Yes it’s going to get plenty of play this weekend!!!

  • Alexander Kleinwechter

well, the new map nuketown 2025 is not in the online map rotation, does someone know if they will update it once more? so it can get into the map rotation

  • CaesarGood

this all planned and orchastrated bullshit, thank you all very much…

  • darkvam

A lot of people like bo2 over ghost so this is good news. I didn’t even buy ghost.

    • thedeciderU

      it’s a crap game.

  • TheBoldman67

What if they’re bringing all of the DLC to Wii U? They also have up leaderboards for Turned, which was in another DLC pack. If anything, I’d buy them.

  • majora :D

Activision doing something right for a change.

  • shanafan

Any true COD player is still playing Ghosts, MW3, Black Ops 2, Black Ops 1, etc. :)

  • larz_1234

better late than never i say! ill be playing this weekend for sure

  • Jackson five

I Have to play this game. Up til ghosts( I found for 9 bucks at toys r us) I haven’t played a cod since 3 on wii ,so I really enjoyed cod ghosts .

  • Thomas Stevenson III

thats a good sign that the next call of duty wont skip wiiu

  • Will.F. Martinez

It’s late but I ain’t complaining. I’ll download it. I still enjoy the game. Don’t play it that often as I use too but definitely worth keeping

  • Brandon

Has anyone noticed that the resident evil hd remaster is being built on the gamecube version, but still is not coming to wii u.

    • matthew garcia

      I didn’t know that

    • Merry_Blind

      I know, it’s a shame.

  • mark kaser

good thing i sold my copy on ebay a year ago for nine dollars…little too late guys.

  • devmiles

    what a joke

  • FIreproof_actual

Does anyone still play this on multiplayer…?

    • Davidgr2

yup..i bet more than Ghosts for sure

  • Joel

    That’s… embarrassing. It really is.

  • Arkamarky

It would be such a troll to give us all the DLCs for free. PS3 and XBOX 360users would rage.

  • Agent721

This is too little, too late…traded that game in last year.

  • MHeinz

    dlc better be free

  • larz_1234

anybody else not seeing the nuketown 2025 24/7 playlist? I don’t see it yet and double xp has not started yet either it seems

  • Anthony Banos

Well black ops 2 is the better game between the two.

  • Mafia_del_Poder

    Hell Yeah I Will

  • ShenaniganMan

Why would they give Wii U the Die Rise map with out the 4 multiplayer maps that go with it?

  • SnappyJon

Well, I can confirm that the Nuketown 2025 map is indeed now available. I can also confirm that I’m just as rubbish at multi-player FFA as I always was.

  • Chase U

Wow… this is a little surprising… and unexpected! Wish they would’ve added these maps a LOT earlier because I was playing this game nonstop just a few months ago… now of course I’m hooked on Mario Kart 8 and NOW Super Mario Kart! :D

  • Jon Turner

I don’t know WHY In the heck Activision waited so long to give WiiU owners of this game this DLC, but whatever. I’m not the kind of gamer who holds grudges over past mistakes.

  • WellWisher

Sweet. Can’t wait to play on it.

  • Davidgr2

Sweet! i have Black Ops on 360 as well, but honestly playing the Wii U version with the Wii U pro controller is the best experience. I have Ghosts on PS4 and while the game looks awesome, the gameplay and game blows. i’m never ever buying a COD from Activision again..Treyarch only. I’m definitely gonna play some Nuketown on Wii U.

  • Rodger_Ramjet

That’s great news for WiiU owners. Yes, it’s moving in the right direction. More players are on blops2 over ghosts. Ghosts is a complete mess online

    • thedeciderU

i am not into ghosts at all and probably only played about 20-30 hours before giving up and moving on.

  • Wren Justin Umlauf

Once I have interent again I’ll probably play a few matches of this just so I can put my Pro Controller to some good use.

  • FutureFox

You can snatch the Wii U version for $14 on Amazon. The funny thing is its about the same price new for PS3 as Ghosts; around $32.

  • tom

I think they are trying to get Wii U owners excited for the new for COD AD coming in the fall!

  • Colin Tosh

Third parties cry about their games not selling but this is what they do to Nintendo console owners.

If you cannot commit to the fanbase why on earth do you expect the fanbase to commit to you?

Even so better late than never.

  • FaTih

They released it to make the Nuketown 2025 24/7 playlist available ( and also 2xEXP) so you get hyped for CoD:AW

  • Jared

im definetly gonna play nuketown i hope they also add buried zombies on wii u
