    Cool

  • Jack5221

Has anyone else noticed that in the past couple of months, they’ve been releasing N64 games only purchasable through Club Nintendo? In my opinion, they should just release N64 Virtual Console with a nice catalog of games already… Its over due.

    • Ghasfarost

Yes, so disappointing, but I am already used to that with Nintendo. According to my records these have been the N64 games offered since Club Nintendo started giving downloadable games as rewards:

January, 2012 The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask (Wii Shop)
February, 2012 Mario Party 2 (Wii Shop)
September, 2012 Super Smash Bros. (Wii Shop)
December, 2012 1080 Snowboarding (Wii Shop), Mario Party 2 (Wii Shop)
January, 2013 Mario Kart 64 (Wii Shop)
February, 2013 Paper Mario (Wii Shop)
March, 2013 Mario Tennis (Wii Shop)
April, 2013 Super Mario 64 (Wii Shop)
      June, 2013 F-Zero X (Wii Shop)
July, 2013 Star Fox 64 (Wii Shop)
January, 2014 1080° Snowboarding (Wii Shop)
April, 2014 Mario Golf (Wii Shop)
May, 2014 Mario Kart 64 (Wii Shop)
June, 2014 Mario Party 2 (Wii Shop)
July, 2014 Paper Mario (Wii Shop)
August, 2014 Star Fox 64 (Wii Shop)

At least they could provide these at launch of N64 VC. I would gladly pay $2.00 for the upgrade to Wii U N64 Virtual Console for the games that Club Nintendo already gave me…Seems like Nintendo doesn’t need my money U_U

      • matthew garcia

I’m sure it would probably only take Nintendo a flick of a switch to make it happen. I know money is definitely not the issue cuz they got a lot of that. Maybe that’s why thousands of people just rather emulate n64 games

      • anthony optimo

What a bummer, I missed out on Majora’s Mask.

        • Ghasfarost

It will probably return. Most games from the Club Nintendo offerings gave returned

    • jjbredesen

Yup, even the 3DS should have N64 games now….. Hopefully with the release of the gamecube adapter we will get gamecube games and N64 games before the end of this year?? But i highly doubt anything will happen before 2015…. Shame it would really help freshen up stuff, even gamecube games could be playable on 3DS when i think about it, so i don’t understand what is taking so long….not that hard to port over older games.

      • Epicstuf

I have a feeling we are going to need Circle Pad Pro for N64 Games on 3DS.

        • jjbredesen

That is true…but the point still is that it should atleast have been out on Wii U by now and that it really is easy to do.

          • Fred

I don’t know how easy it would or wouldn’t be to do, but by now there’s no excuse as to why they haven’t done it. If it’s resources then they should have paid a third party company to do it. Every time I do a club nintendo survey on a VC game I mention that I’m sick of not having N64 VC on Wii U and that I would also like Gamecube

        • Jason

Or put C-buttons on the touch screen.

          • Epicstuf

And put the Select Button as Z.

          • Merry_Blind

            Oh boy..

          • Epicstuf

            That would be hard.

          • Merry_Blind

            Really.

          • Epicstuf

Yeah, Nintendo should just use the extra buttons on the Circle Pad Pro.

      • Fred

Gamecube on 3DS would require a remake not just an emulator and N64 on 3DS would probably require a remake

        • matthew garcia

Why a cell phone can emulate n64 pretty well. Just use a moga controller and it feels pretty good

          • jjbredesen

Yup, even my SII could emulate gamecube games at 5FPS or so, meaning that a S5 should be able to perhaps do 15FPS and the emulator is still in beta, i think that by 2017 emulating gamecube games on android phones should be possible, N64 and PS1 emulation is great.

          • matthew garcia

Yeah I emulated ps1 and n64 games on my galaxy 4 really well. I have a HTC one m8 now and havnt tried it on that phone yet. Are you talking about the dolphin emulator for the gamecube?

          • jjbredesen

Yup, tried melee and it worked ok, not playable on an enjoyable level, but it works.

          • matthew garcia

That’s crazy. I’ll have to look further into that

          • Merry_Blind

Wow, didn’t know the Dolphin emulator was being ported to Android. That’s madness!

          • jjbredesen

Its in early Alpha and works pretty decent, still needs more work, but its more that the phones are not powerful enough, as for Iphones I don’t think they will be powerful enough before ages as the 5S as almost the same specs as the SII, perhaps the Iphone 10 will be able? As for Android should work good when next years high end models are released.

          • Merry_Blind

Well it’s already messy with many games on a good PC, can’t imagine Android phones running many games well.

          • jjbredesen

It is a bit messy yes, but it is getting a lot better, to run melee on a PC at 60FPS, I have tested to find out that you will need a Quad core 2,6Ghz processor, 6GB of ram and 1,5 GB of VRAM so a graphics card such as GT620 should be fine.

For phones its different, but melee runs pretty well on older high end phones, so newer ones should be able to get up to 25FPS, and next years 30?

          • Merry_Blind

Yeah I have an i5-3570k + GTX660 and I have no problems with Melee except for the occasional glitches.

That’s the thing I don’t like about emulators though, even with a good PC like mine, half the games aren’t playable because they run too slow or have too many glitches, while the other half do run well and are playable, but they still have audio and/or visual bugs.

Only a handful of games run near-perfect like Melee, Mario Sunshine, or Sonic Colors, and even then, it’s still just ‘near’ perfect.

Hell even Pokemon games for GameBoy Colors with VisualBoyAdvance don’t run properly. Sure they’re playable, but you either get perfect sound with laggy visuals or perfect visuals with glitchy sound………….

That’s what I love about Nintendo’s Virtual Console. VC games run flawlessly on my Wii U (in my experience).

          • Fred

Don’t you realize, that cell phone processors are more powerful than 3DS ones???

          • jjbredesen

Yes they are, but the entire thing is not dedicated to gaming, especially with Android where you have to have a lot of extra processes going on, 3DS can run in a dedicated mode for pure emulation, so there is a difference and the emulator is being worked on very slowly and is in hap so my point was i don’t think things will be stable and playable at 60/30FPS without drops and crashes before around then, its already playable :P

3DS has better specs than the gamecube, so it should be able to pull it of, its basically a 3DS games without the shaders and less particle effects etc.

          • Fred

I’m not convinced that a 3DS is as powerful as a gamecube! I think it falls between N64 and Gamecube not above Gamecube keep in mind the 3DS resolution isn’t that great

          • Rinslowe

            Should be before that…

          • matthew garcia

Yeah I think it may be sooner also

          • jjbredesen

Yeah it is possible now, my point was being able to play it stable without frame drops crashes etc. not on the phone side, but on the emulator side.

          • Rinslowe

I know. That’s actually what I was referring to. As the demand for such experiences on mobile becomes greater every month, literally.
I think the coding for stable emulation will come sooner.

          • Fred

Don’t you realize that cell phone processors are more powerful than 3DS ones???

          • matthew garcia

Well maybe Nintendo should have future proofed there handheld a little more by adding a little more muscle. Nintendo did a little better with the Wii u this time around but the 3ds dropped

          • Yen

Future proofing… by making it play ten year old games… I get what you mean it just sounded funny.

          • matthew garcia

Lol yeah it doesn’t sound right

          • Merry_Blind

            hahaha

          • Fred

so you’re saying the 3DS which didn’t sell hardly any units until they basically cut the price in half should have been more powerful and therefore more expensive. Yep makes perfect sense to me?!?

      • Shota

N64 would be awesom on 3ds however needs lot of tweaks and testing because of the proccecor differences.

    • DC777

      yeah but Wii versions

Either make it Wii U or forget it.

      • bistricky

I agree …. I would love to get N64 games they offer in Wii format but only if its designed for the Wii U and it’s gamepad. Until then, I will pass on those Wii versions …. Yet, I will be spending a lot of ‘coins’ and $$ when N64 games are offered on the Wii U VC.
        :D

  • ActivesiN

    Star Fox!

  • Sdudyoy

Can you download the Wii/Wii U games on the Wii U side of the console, or is it just the Wii side?

    • 00EpicGamer00

Just the Wii side (the Wii U side doesn’t have N64 games…yet).

      • Sdudyoy

Ahh, I really wish I could play Starfox 64 on my Wii U gamepad, that would be awesome, Nintendo needs to get N64 games on Wii U.

        • 00EpicGamer00

Well…technically you can. There was an update for the Wii U that makes Wii games be viewable (not payable) on the gamepad. You won’t be able to control the game but you can use it as a smaller TV screen.

          • Fred

But I can’t because I used to play them with Gamecube controllers until I gave my Wii away and bought a Wii U foolishily thinking they would quickly bring all the VC to WIi U. I’ve considered buying classic controllers, but my N64 nostalgia is all 4-player so I’d have to buy 4 of them and so far I’ve decided to just keep waiting and hoping that all these games come to Wii U VC as I already own 4 pro controllers

          • Merry_Blind

You could use GC controllers with ALLLLL VC games on Wii? So in theory the GameCube Wii U Adapter coming out for Smash should allow us to play VC games in Wii mode with GC controllers rather than Classic ones?

          • Fred

I’m hoping so. If that’s the case it’ll be easy for me to justify buying the adapter! But I won’t guarentee that it’ll let you use them in Wii mode until it’s official

          • Merry_Blind

Yeah I hope it will work, but just as an indication, you’re 100% sure you could use a GC controller with all VC games on the original Wii? Because on the eShop it only mentions Classic Controllers, no mentions of GC…

          • Fred

I can’t tell you 100% sure for all games, but I used to play N64 games on my Wii using the Gamecube controller I know Zelda works, and Super Smash Bros 64 those are the ones I played a lot.I also played a little Super Mario Kart, but wow that SNES game sucks (and I loved it as a kid) oh yea I also played 1080 snowboarding.I never found a game it didn’t work with I think the Wii just treated it as a classic controller, but no I can’t tell you about EVERY SINGLE GAME

          • Merry_Blind

Ok thanks! I’ve read that it only works with N64 games, but I also read that it works with all games. So I don’t know lol…

And yeah, Super Mario Kart isn’t that great. It’s alright, but the fake 3D didn’t help it.

          • Fred

No 1080 snowboarding didn’t age well.
It’s not just N64 games as it worked with at least 1 or 2 SNES games.

          • Merry_Blind

Ok good to know. Thanks again!

          • Sdudyoy

True, I’ve used that a couple of times, I just wish I didn’t need a Wii remote with a separate controller connected to it just to play N64 games on My Wii U.

          • 00EpicGamer00

Very true. Hopefully Nintendo will allow the gamepad to be a controller for VC games.

      • companyoflosers

umm well this article kinda disagrees with you. says starfox 64 is a wii u reward, not wii. the only thing is the n64 games only seem to be available on wii u as rewards on club nintendo and not purchasable. idk why they do that but they do.

        • Merry_Blind

No no, it is indeed a reward for the Wii U, but you still have to play the game in Wii mode.

          • companyoflosers

Ya i have since figured that out. Lame.

    • Ghasfarost

      only on the Wii side.

    • José Abraham Cervantes Posadas

      On the Wii side :/.

      • tux_peng

Funny that they give you a game the requires a controller they don’t make anymore

        http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/04/wii_classic_controllers_no_longer_being_manufactured_by_nintendo

        • Jason

Well you can use a GameCube controller too if you have the original Wii or a GC Controller Adapter which will come in December.

          • Sean Reihani

            There’s a 3rd party one by Mayflash

          • Merry_Blind

OKKKKKK DUUUUDDEEE clear this up for me will ya? I’ve read all sorts of conflicting infos. You’re 100% sure you can play VC games with a GameCube controller rather than a Classic? Even N64 games?

If so, I’m 100% getting the GC adapter for Smash, if not, I won’t bother with it and will just get some Classic controllers while I still can.

          • tux_peng

Amazon sill has classic. Although, if stoped production of the controller, it might mean that they plan to release N64 on the Wii U side soon

  • matthew garcia

Nintendo can do better then this.

    • Merry_Blind

I think it’s pretty good, isn’t it? Mario 2 and Star Fox 64. I think that’s some good stuff here.

  • http://obaforums.wordpress.com DragonSilths

Wish Nintendo would update these games to be playable on the Wii U part of the console not Wii Mode. I want to play Off TV Play on Gamecube Games on the Gamepad!

  • companyoflosers

well its august now and i just tried redeeming my coins for an august game and it said the reward wasnt being distributed yet. is there a specific day they said they become available or is this just lag in enacting it?

    • DragonChi

Were you trying to redeem it through the Wii U menu or the Wii Menu within the Wii U. The latter is where you have to do it.

  • Korv13

Since the Club Nintendo games are not very interesting and it doesn’t show any improvement, I discovered that spending on some games that I hesitated buying isn’t as stupid as it seems…

For those who don’t know, even if you perchase games using your Club Nintendo points, these games STILL give you points for the Deluxe Digital Promotion. By this way, you manage to get 5$ credits even if you haven’t buy anything. Even the Club Nintendo prime counts…. :D

For those who have a Club Nintendo account and haven’t try the Deluxe Digital Promotion, you are missing something. All the games you have downloaded on Wii U and 3DS since the beginning of the promotion will automatically give you points.

    • Fred

“All the games you have downloaded on Wii U and 3DS since the beginning of the promotion will automatically give you points.”
Sorry man almost right, but 3DS games don’t give you Deluxe Digital Promotion points only WIi U games bought on a Deluxe Wii U give you those points, but you’re right it’s an awesome program

      • Korv13

Oh my bad, you are right! I mixed the promotion with the Club Nintendo points you get when you buy Nintendo 3DS games.

It’s a shame this promotion ends in December…

        • Fred

I agree, I hope they decide to extend it

      • Merry_Blind

Yeah awesome promotion. Nintendo’s promotions with the Wii U are pretty amazing.

  • CaesarGood

got super mario 2. the strange thing is when i was a child i remember nothin of this game, and never played it til mario all stars came out. i mario bros. and smb3 but not a thought in sight for mario bro.2. it always seemed awkward, but im now ready to see what it is all about..

    • Oblivion

It wasn’t even a real Mario game. They took an existing game and just replaced some of the characters with Nintendo ones.

Oddly enough…I still kinda like it.

    • anthony optimo

I was really hoping it would have been the GBA Super Mario 2.

      • CaesarGood

        oh yea, whats the difference??

        • anthony optimo

Improved graphics, altered enemies, different items, with the same fun gameplay.

          • Merry_Blind

Probably worse music though. I tried playing Super Mario World on a GBA emulator some time ago. I didn’t remember they butchered the music so much in the transition from SNES to GBA. It ruined the game for me, I assume it would do the same for Mario 2, which has some excellent music.

          • anthony optimo

The music in SM2 is superb.

    • Merry_Blind

Mario 2 is super weird compared to other Mario games, and many people don’t like it, but I’ve personally always liked it.

It doesn’t play at all like other Mario games on the All Stars cartridge (I still have it, and it’s awesome, too bad they don’t release THOSE SNES versions instead of the NES ones) but the music and levels are awesome, and there’s all sorts of hidden and special things to find.

      • CaesarGood

Really and whats the difference in the snes version other than graphics, cause I sure was wondering why the the first level was night time when u drop out the sky…

        • Merry_Blind

Mmmhh as far as I’m aware, only the graphics changed, though they might have done some modifications here and there while they were at it, I don’t know.

But the visuals are just so much better in the All-Stars versions. I grew up with those, so I just can’t bare playing the original NES ones, otherwise I would have already bought Mario 1 and 3 on the Wii U eShop.

Actually I think I’ll try to hunt down a copy of the Wii version of All-Stars released in the past year…

  • anthony optimo

Well, looks like I’m getting star fox when I get off work tonight.

  • Fufusio

Sucks we can’t get them here in au/nz : we can only spend our points on physical things, that never get updated.

    • Will.F. Martinez

That does suck. I would think it would be the same treatment across the globe. Smh

  • greengecko007

Not to sound ungrateful, but I’d love it if Nintendo would actually update the rewards so I could spend my coins on something besides greeting cards and patches, i.e. the stuff they’ve been offering for the past 6 months. The hanafuda cards seem cool, and so did the t-shirts or even the Pikmin carry bag.

  • Chase U

It would be GREAT if Nintendo would have a Wii U system update that made it to where Wii U owners could play N64 games with the GamePad…!

  • steveb944

    Why no source link?

Going for Mario Bros, possibly Star Fox… I had my 3DS version but I sold it due to low replay value.

  • Merry_Blind

Star Fox 64 hmm? Well well… I never got that game back in the days, I could get it now…

    Need a Classic Controller though…

  • Will.F. Martinez

Again like before I already got most of these on my wiiu/wii

  • Juan Carlos

Would definitely get Star Fox 64 if there were any visible movement of Big N pushing out N64 VC games on the Wii U. But I don’t like having to plug a controller into my wii remote just to play so I’m not interested in the Wii VC stuff.

  • Stuart O’Quin

Picked up “Star Fox 64″. Long overdue, but I wish they would put some N64 titles on Wii U already! I dislike having to travel through the Wii menu and then digging the game out of my SD card. Pretty annoying, and basically no way to use my other Wii U features while I’m at it.

  • iamserious

Unrelated but no one is accepting my $10 virtual MasterCard that I got from the Best Buy promotion when I pre-ordered Mario Kart 8. Anyone from US know who will take it?

  • Rick Valenta

Club Nintendo is Ultra Weak. Not sure why I even signed up for it at this point. Nintendogs greeting cards? Really? How about a gold Wii U Pro Controller or anything desirable for me to spent my thousands of coins on..
