Hyrule Warriors retro mode features online connectivity

hyrule-warriors-47-1-656x368

Despite Hyrule Warriors not having online co-op like most Dynasty Warriors games, it appears the game will have some online connectivity in the retro mode, as detailed by producer Yosuke Hayashihas. A feature called “Network Link” will allow you import a Link into your map with a level based on current user data. Assisting this Link in a fight will allow to obtain special bonuses. Here’s the full quote from the GameInformer interview:

The Adventure Mode features a ‘Network Link’ feature. This allows you to add a ‘Link’ to your maps whose level is based on other users’ play data. If you come to this Link’s aid and fight alongside him, you’ll get access to special bonuses.

There were no details on why this mode would have online connectivity but the main game wouldn’t. This new mode of play was revealed during last night’s Nintendo Direct, which focused specifically on Hyrule Warriors. Ganondorf was also revealed as a playable character, bringing the total roster of playable characters up to more than 13 characters.

    If thats all, kinda lame.

    • http://about.me/overlordror Ashley King

      Yep.

  • Ducked

Nintendo: “You asked for online, we delivered! Please understand”.

    • matthew garcia

What I don’t understand is that Nintendo is the company that took multiplayer mainstream with goldeneye and perfect dark and after that they just completely dropped it while Sony and Microsoft took off with it

      • Ducked

It’s hard to understand. Nintendo has done a poor job with online multiplayer, which is part of the reason it isn’t winning over most western gamers. PS4 and Xbone is all online games, and Wii U is all local. Shame there’s no balance.

        • matthew garcia

Yeah I love local multiplayer still to this day but you have to have online this day and age

          • Ducked

As do I, I’m one of the few that prefer local multiplayer over online, but like you said. You have to have online by now.

          • matthew garcia

Yeah my personal favorite local multiplayer game is boulders gate on ps2 lol.

        • Gabe Hoffman

I seriously doubt online play is a major reason

    • The Clockwork Being

You know Nintendo isn’t the one making the game right. Tecmo Koei is developing it.

      • Ducked

        I goof up sometimes.

        • The Clockwork Being

BUT even with that as the publisher, Nintendo should be pushing the online features for this game. Nintendo has a say in this game since Aonuma is the adviser. The other Dynasty Warriors game had online in them, even the one on Wii.

It would only be natural for Tecmo to include online in this game.

          • Ducked

            True, I agree.

  • Daniel Carvalho

Nice that you can help your friends in some way with Online connectivity, but it sucks that it isn’t the so needed Online Co-op/VS mode. The Wii U needs games with Online to boost sales – how many people out there don’t get the console solely because it lacks games with that functionality!

Hopefully Bayonetta 2 + 1 will show Nintendo adding a proper Online mode brings good results, as the game will have Online Co-op and VS modes.

  • Spoon

So incredibly disappointing… My gaming buddies live far from me, dang it nintendo!

I hope we can play as Tingle at least, or probably no buy for me.

  • Will.F. Martinez

Wonder why Nintendo doesn’t like simple online co-op on there games? It would’ve been nice in Mario 3D world and here. Me and my brother both have jobs that requires us to move around a lot, so it would’ve useful for us.

  • Petri

Just tried to join and create coop for warriors orochi 3 on Wii U, no other players found…
Also coop was restricted to maps already cleared.
I guess you could ask around miiverse for people to play with,
but invite friend is not available.
No other online mode there is finding matches either.

Though I’m sure they could make could make enjoyable online modes for this game.
But like I’ve already stated, the game has been fun enough on offline, and I believe Hyrule Warriors will be as well.

  • Zackary Bruley

Sounds like people need to the the !@#$ outside and go meet REAL people with like gaming interests… my I suggest Craigslist?

Stop beating the no online play house. It’s dead already..

  • Theamazingdude

So Nintendos first online game and its a ripoff? Figures.

  • shoeses47

Still no online in this day & age? *sigh* Looks like another Nintendo game I’ll be skipping…

    • JCdude

Just because it doesn’t have online co-op doesn’t mean it should be automatically skipped. I feel like if people want online co-op enough, Nintendo might make it happen in a future update to Hyrule Warriors.

      • shoeses47

You have to much faith in them. They’d never do it.

        • JCdude

They might do it…it’s just not likely.

          • shoeses47

            *not likely at all.

          • JCdude

That’s true, but we can always hope.

          • shoeses47

I prefer to not give myself false hopes like this. :/

  • Gizmo

    “please understand….”

  • Arale Norimaki

This better not be all! Ncha!

  • Justin Lee

Nintendo needs to stop thinking everyone has friends or family members who plays games.

  • Nathan C.

Well, that’s stupid. It’s like Sakurai saying “Hey! We didn’t want to put online play in Smash 4 for 3DS, but’s here’s a SpotPass feature instead!”

  • A – Kuma

so does no one give a fuck about the core game experience, it’s online co-op or nothing? that’s pathetic man…

  • Daniel

Nintendo are the North Korea of the gaming world.

  • JCdude

Shame that there’s no online co-op, this game looks perfect for that type of thing.
