Miyamoto isn’t directly involved in Nintendo NX development any longer


Nintendo’s Shigeru Myamoto often has a hand in everything the company does, from games, to its hardware. But this time, the legendary game designer is taking a hands-off approach when it comes to development of the upcoming Nintendo NX game console.

Instead, Miyamoto is focusing more on software and games, but he does keep an eye on how development of the NX progresses.

Speaking to Fortune, Miyamoto said “I’ve pulled myself back out of some of the hardware section and I’m really focused on some of the software that I’m involved in — for example, the new Starfox game”.

“Of course I am observing and looking at the hardware, but I am not actively participating and making decisions.”, he added. Miyamoto was actively designing and was heavily involved in developing both the original Wii and the Wii U.

Nintendo started showing the NX to third party developers at E3 earlier this month, where the reception was positive, according to insiders.

The company isn’t sharing any details with press right now because they like to keep things secret for now — according to Satoru Iwata, the company doesn’t want its competitors to steal any NX ideas. Not yet, anyways.

All we know so far is that the NX console will not be running an Android operating system (but might emulate Android games), and that it might be region-free.
