Yesterday we reported on the rumor that Japanese publication Nikkei shared, stating Nintendo’s next console will use an Android-based operating system. A Nintendo spokesperson reached out to the magazine and said, “There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX.” The rumor yesterday caused quite a bit of buzz in the tech community, with many wondering if Nintendo’s next device would be a hybrid mobile and home console, given the use of Android.
It should be noted that Nintendo’s denial of Nikkei’s statement isn’t necessarily the end of the Android rumor. Nintendo has patently denied several things Nikkei has reported as rumor that eventually turned out to be true, including a price cut for the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS XL. Given Nintendo’s history of denying rumors and then announcing the product as the rumor stated, we’re unsure of whether or not this one will turn out to be true.
