Over the past few days, several retailers have leaked images of a Shovel Knight amiibo, leading to some speculation that he would be joining the roster of Super Smash Bros. Instead, he’ll be the first third-party indie character to receive an amiibo. The amiibo was unveiled officially last night during the Nindies@Night event in Seattle.
So what’s special about the Shovel Knight amiibo? For the Wii U version of Shovel Knight, you’ll be able to scan the amiibo and take on Shovel Knight levels cooperatively with a friend. For both Nintendo 3DS and Wii U players, you’ll be able to use the amiibo to customize Shovel Knight with new visual effects and abilities. These can be used in the new challenge levels that come with the amiibo as well.
If you haven’t jumped on board the Shovel Knight train just yet, a retail package for the game will be coming in October and Yacht Club Games have revealed that the Plague Knight DLC will be released in September.
What do you think of the amiibo? Will you be picking it up?
