Back at the end of July, we told you that Nintendo planned to stop supporting Nintendo TVii on the Wii U on August 11. The service that was one of the launch features of the Wii U for the United States never made it to Europe as promised and due to the Wii U’s lack of popularity with gamers, Nintendo hasn’t exactly been spurred to make TVii a better experience.
Now with firmware update 5.5.0 released, Nintendo has removed the TVii icon from the Wii U menu and the HOME menu. Wii U TVii had some useful applications in being able to control your TV without having to find a separate remote, but many Wii U owners never touched the service thanks to better options available through other means.
