According to reports, the new Shovel Knight Amiibo can be read through its box, meaning there’s no need to take it out of the box to use its NFC functionality.
The Shovel Knight Amiibo lets players unlock some cool features on the Wii U and 3DS, which players can now do and simply return the Amiibo or keep them in the box as collector’s items (if the rumor is true).
Amiibos generally have to be taken out of the box in order for their NFC features to be utilized in games. This is because there is a layer of material at the bottom of each Amiibo box that NFC signal cannot pass through.
Apparently Shovel Knight Amiibo maker Yacht Club Games didn’t include such a layer in their box, which is odd, since Amiibo boxes have a standardized design.
The Shovel Knight Amiibo was released yesterday in North America, alongside an update to the game that adds Amiibo functionality.
