While the rest of the world has been enjoying Shovel Knight on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, Japanese gamers have been waiting patiently to get their hands on Yacht Club Games’ throw-back to the days of 8-bit platforming games. The game isn’t releasing there until June 30th, but to soften the sting of that blow the region is getting a physical Shovel Knight game and amiibo bundle that you see above.
The physical bundle is only good for the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, but the amiibo will of course work with both. The Nintendo 3DS is hugely popular in Japan, so it’s not really surprising to see this bundle. Of course the couch co-op mode unlocked by the amiibo is Wii U exclusive, so Japanese gamers will have to buy that version as well to enjoy the amiibo to its fullest potential.
The retail cost for this bundle in Japan is about ￥3,000 yen, which is around $28 USD.
